Hey guys, it's you me and welcome back to my channel, so today i'll be taking out my passion twist. I just want to walk you guys through my takedown process and show you guys what a normal takedown process for me looks like because i do grow. My hair using protective styling, and i personally like to keep my protective cells in for longer. For me, i see the most length retention whenever i leave my protective cells in for longer. That meaning like three months, is how long i usually leave my protective cells in when i'm trying to get serious growth like i've explained in previous videos. The whole point of a protective style is to limit the amount of manipulation on your hair and one of the downfalls of putting in a protective style that you're only going to keep in for like two or three weeks. Is that you're gon na put a lot of manipulation to install the style and then a lot of manipulation to take down the style? So i find that whenever i go extended period of times where i'm not manipulating my hair at all, that is when i'm able to see the most length retention, because the more you manipulate your hair, the more it breaks. So less manipulation is how you get more length and that's ultimately how i was able to grow my hair. So for me, i really like being able to keep my protective cells in for longer. Some people may have a hair type that just does really really badly. In long-term protective styles, but from what i see a lot, it's more about the fact that you're just not taking it down properly, so i'm going to walk you guys through my takedown process. These are crochet passion tools. I have cornrows under this, i'm just going to quickly take out these crochets and give you guys my tips and how much shedding i get, because i do get a lot of shedding because hair sheds you're gon na get a lot of shedding, especially if you've had It in for a while all that shed here should just stay in there, so it's normal. You will see a lot of hair which i'll show you guys. The thing that i used to take down my hair is this: rs leave-in i've been using it for the longest time. I like it, because it's not too watery, so it doesn't make my hair reverse. I would actually highly recommend this product. It works really really well. It'S the perfect consistency, whether you're, natural or relaxed. I have a ton of new growth, so everything at the base of my cornrows is all pretty much natural, but the ends of my hair are relaxed and i love the way it works on both textures. I'M actually not too much of a fan of it as an actual leave-in anymore, but i really like it for taking down my hair. What'S really important also is that you do not get your hair soaking wet, drenching hair, that's tangles with water will cause those tangles to become knots a lot more easily and break off, and your hair will also be in its weakest state. So i just would recommend staying away from doing that. I literally drench my hair with this product, so don't be afraid to use a ton of product, and i always have product in my fingers as i'm going through my hair, so that i'm never manipulating my hair when it's completely dry without product i've gotten a little Bit of breakage, i don't know if you can see that this for sure is breakage, because we haven't even undone the cornrows and i'll walk through the difference between breakage and shedding whenever you're taking down your hair. You will see a lot of shed here, because air sheds, like i, have to look up the exact number i'll correct myself here. If it's not, but i think it's 100 strands a day, if it's not up with the actual number, and if i've had these this hair in for two months, i still haven't calculated the exact number of weeks. But let's just say it's been two months: that's 60 days times a hundred strands, that's six thousand six thousand strands that you're going to get out whenever you're taking down your hair. So if you're, seeing these big balls of hair come out, don't freak out what you want to avoid. Seeing too much of is breakage those smaller shorter pieces that i just pulled out to show you that was breakage for sure, because we haven't even completely undone the cornrows and that's just breakage from the ends of my hair, shedding happens from the root. So it's going to be like full strands of hair that you see coming out versus like shorter pieces from the end, but anytime, you manipulate your hair. You'Re gon na see some breakage unless you have really really strong hair. But for me i do get breakage still, which is why low manipulation helps me a lot with growing my hair in this process of manipulating. I will get some shining and i will get some breakage, but the goal is to not get too much breakage before i take down my hair, it put in the main choice, oil, and i put that in my hair and as i'm taking it down, i can Feel the oil it does not feel dry and brittle at all. So that's a really important step that i always like to do a few days or a week before you take down your protective style, try and put an oil into all of your hair and allow it some days to seep in it makes such a difference whenever You'Re taking down your hair, like you'll, feel your hair. Your hair will just feel a lot softer because of the oils that have penetrated as i'm taking this down. My hair feels really good a little bit more build up right there. That'S usually where tangles starts to form, so i just like to put conditioner and leave in i apply it generously. I know i'm about to wash it out, and this stuff is also really really cheap. It'S like three dollars or something oh yeah. I always start with using my fingers to finger detangle, my hair first with a lot of product in it before i go in with the color, and i am getting a little bit of breakage as well, and i'm telling the difference between shed hair and breakage by The length another way to check is at the end of a hair strand. That'S come directly from your root. You'Ll see a white bulb at the end. That is, if the reason that it's pulled out is because of shedding. So everything that i'm saying is given that your protective style wasn't too tight and didn't pull out any of your strands from your scalp and you'll know. If that happened like if the first week you're having to take painkillers and can't sleep at night, your hair is probably being pulled out. I know for sure that none of my hair was pulled out from the roots, so this is a piece of shed here, even though it's a little bit shorter, it's probably just a shorter piece of hair that was on my head. This is the shed here and the breakage that i've gotten from taking it down and finger combing this one section. So after i've done my finger combing i go in with a wide tooth comb to get any of the tangles that my fingers may have made makes it so much easier whenever you go with smaller sections, and i am getting more shed here come out. So that's all shed here. These are all really long pieces once i've done a section. My whole thing is low manipulation. So once i'm finished detangling this section, i don't detangle it again and i just leave it alone. Another tip. Is you want to make sure that you don't take all of your hair down and then try and detangle it after that's what i used to do, i would take all of my hair down and attempt to detangle it most of the time i wouldn't detangle it Fully, i would just hop in the shower and allow it to just all break off um, because i was lazy, but take your time this one day won't hurt you so so far from this one braid. This is how much hair i've gotten and i'll probably say. Like five percent of it was breakage, so i'm doing well and these all look pretty long - i'm not gon na go through each one of them. I hope you guys are getting an idea, and this probably looks like more than what your hair may look like, because each strand that's in here is long. So, like bald up, it all looks like a lot, but if your strands are shorter, build up, they will look smaller so take that into account as well and as you can see, i've never had to like yank anything through if there's a place where i feel Resistance, i focus on that spot and carefully remove the tangles and the longer that you've had in objective cells if you've had it in for one month versus two months. You'Re gon na see double the shed here for two months, because that's two months of your hair shedding and all of that hair staying trapped in. So it's not that you're, seeing more breakage you're, just seeing a greater accumulation of shed hair. If you see more shed hair and more breakage, then that's probably a problem and if you're seeing a lot of matting, let me go through all the reasons why your hair can be matting up. If you have a finer, hair, texture or just a type of texture in general that match up, i don't really know any other reason other than it being fine, but there might be other textures out there that are more prone to matting up. So that's one thing: two you're putting extremely heavy products in your hair on a reoccurring basis. So, if you're putting a regular leave-in daily onto your braids, of course, it's going to matte up and start to stick together if you're doing that for a month straight, you want to keep it light. I'Ve talked about this in my how to take care of your textiles video, but they have sprays that are diluted with water made simply for protective style that you can do. You can dilute your leave-in conditioner with water, but what i like to do is just use an oil like i've, never seen any type of mat from an oil, because oils can't really stick together, like a cream can because, like this type of cream after a while, Once it starts to dry up and like build up on on top of each other, it will start to stick together, but with oils i've never had that problem. Even if i was applying oil like every day and like putting a ton of it, i've never had a problem. So i would highly recommend just using an oil and just stay away from like creams and stuff and butters that and just making sure that you're taking down your hair probably properly. I haven't really analyzed how much of shedding versus breakage, because it's taking too long. Most of these pieces are super long as long as i'm being careful, i know i'm not causing any extra breakage, i'm just going to section it off and i'm not going to touch that section again until i wash it. This is how much hair i got squeeze it all together, that is from one braid, and that is like, i would say, like an eighth or one tenth of all of my hair. So i'm probably gon na get like this times. Ten i'll come back and uh at the end i'll show you guys how much hair i'm getting at the end. I'M gon na do the same exact process that i just showed you, but i'm not going to talk through it and i'm just going to enjoy the process of taking down my hair because i enjoy this process. So i'm just going to relax, watch some youtube and i'll be back a little bit less than half, and i have gotten out this much the two things that you really need when it comes to taking down your hair is one a lot of product and two A lot of patience just take your time go through each braid. One braid at a time does take a long time, but it is worth it not breaking your hair off. I am experiencing more breakage right here and i think it's because whenever i would put my hair in different styles, i would like pull on it this way. I think i probably just pulled on this side too much. The pieces are long, so it looks like shedding, but i know it's not shedding because i didn't get this much shedding of the other ones that were the same size. I think these are just ones that were pulled out, so i'm just gon na be more careful and that's a tip as well. Be careful even if your braids aren't tight once you have the braids in don't put them in tight hairstyles. So i have more built up around the front because i use like gel and edge control and i'm just going to do the same thing and use product to loosen that up and detangle it. Okay, i am done. Finally, it took me a long time to take it down, but it is down now and oh the amount of hair. The final reveal. So let's gather it. I try to do my best at gathering all of the hair, so i might have fallen. I'M pretty sure this is it's now, let's see in total. This was from that one. The first thing that i showed you and now this is from the rest of my hair. So now this is it how much hair i got from this whole. Take down process, like i said before, each hair strand in this ball is longer, so your ball should look a little bit smaller. If your each of your hair strands are shorter, i'm excited to see how long it will look and we will see together, i'm just going to go wash my hair that'll be a separate video, the whole process of like blow drying and showing you my hair, but I'M gon na snap and we will be to my hair, freshly washed and blow-dried. Okay guys this is my hair after i finished washing it and everything, so this will be a quick little mini length, but yeah. I hope you guys found this video helpful. If you did, let me know: uh, yeah and i'll see you in the next one.

Seun Okimi: Also, I washed this hair once while it was in! and I filmed how I washed it and how I care for my protective styles in general in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPD7DKXSBys

Celes Classo: Just took out a 3 month old crochet style, and I got this much shedding! I am so glad I saw this video, because I was freaking out!

Lizz Njagah: I just started leaving my protective styles in for 3 months last year. I'm in my second three month protective style. First time I did cornrows.. Now I am on little three strand plaits, no extensions (we call them matutas in Kenya) The growth I saw after my last protective styling was phenomenal. I hooe to do this all of 2021 and finally get my hair waist length.

Shark of Joy: Thank you for doing the math out loud and saying how much hair sheds every day! I feel bad when ppl take out protective styles and get very sad about the shedding. It's natural and healthy and you did nothing wrong! ♥️

Kim Jones: Less manipulation! Yes! I need to forward this video to my daughter as I've been preaching this to her for a couple years. Side note: Just watched your documentary on relaxers in Nigeria and that was a very well done piece of work, you should do more☺

Ola: This video includes literally EVERYTHING I had to figure out when trying to grow my hair, I wish I discovered this channel way earlier! So informative

pilgrim on a narrow way: Thank you for the recommendation to leave in the hair for 3 months. My hair had grown tremendously in the 3 months. I trust all your advice on hair sis, IMO you're the best on YT just pure honesty, realness and beauty. Thank you again for the tip love.

MB: I followed your advice by not putting anything on my scalp while I had my crochet in, which completely eliminated itching and scalp irritation, AND I left it in for 7wks instead of 4wks, MAJOR DIFFERENCE in the hair growth and length retention and very minimal shedding. You helped me nail my crochet routine, thank you so much! Waist length here I come!

Emani Chaney: Your hair is beautiful and such an inspiration I can’t wait to see growth on my hair. Thanks for the tips!

XAI TIIE: From 2017 to 2020 I have had my hair consistently in crochet twists, and I've left them in for 3 months and a little after the 3rd month and man....I've seen so much growth in those 3 years!!! It was mind blowing, I was impressed and now I'm going to start again in 2021! And yes I did get shedding and I used to see some shedding hair and it freaked me out one time and then I found out it was normal. And I also did not put any products except hair oil because I noticed build up with the products. I really appreciate this video and your content and its helped me out a lot! Thank you!❤

CUBA: So glad I got to know the difference between shedding and breakage. Thank you Seun!

animetwilight75: You literally put this video out as I’m entering my 14th week of having braids in lol Next week I will be taking my 3 months old braids out, so I’m super glad I can see this, your tips were so helpful! Especially didn’t know you shouldn’t drench your hair in water while taking them down. That was a mistake I was about to make lol now thanks to you I can avoid it! :)

Trisha Smith: Thank you so much for this! I am going to put a reminder for myself to rewatch this when it’s time to take my crochet out! Also I’m going to remember not to make the braids at the front tight! Bout gave myself a facelift!

S J: I always swell with pride when I see your hair, like it's my own. I know that's silly but ‍♀️. I love it, and as always thx for sharing and the knowledge!

Mr Oblige: Yeah it was a mess for myself. I actually got made fun of as a guy who had weave in his hair for 3 months. My hair isn't long enough for braids. Keep in mind the ones who made fun of me either had alopecia or have been getting braids their whole life and their hair still hasn't grown at all

WiWiW: This really helped. I thought it was better to leave my crochet braids in in for 4-5 weeks so Ive been taking them down every 4 weeks. Ive been wondering why I cant grow my hair past a little off my shoulders.

Antonia Alia: Thank you for making this video! Every time I take down my hair after a month of braids I swear I'm balding lol, but it seems its just normal after having it tucked away for so long! <3

Kori Clay: Thank you for taking care of your hair and not destroying it for views! it’s so sad seeing healthy hair damaged for popularity

Giulietta Boakye: Omg literally took my braids down yesterday!! When I washed I had a bit of shedding and tangling, more than I normally would.. but leave in conditioner helped a ton

DebLiving: Lovely hair! thanks for this video. I have been enjoying using protective styles on my relaxed hair too. At what point after take-down would you relax your hair (if you were still relaxing)? <3

pilgrim on a narrow way: I kept my braids in for 3 months after watching your recommendation in a previous video. I'm waiting to see how much difference it'll make when I take the down. Thank you

Kara_MyWord: OMGOODNESS so glad I watched your video because I just removed my twists which were in for 3 months. I was upset because of the amount of hair that came out but after watching you explain, I now feel somewhat better. Thank you

shernet brown: I so love watching your videos, in started following you awhile back and I can see my hair growing, I'm currently trying to do a 2 month braid, keep up the good job

stella nwae: Hey, thanks for this video. I was wondering why my hair stopped growing despite the efforts I'm making. just got a tip from your video- 3 months is a reasonable time to get good length, I tried it sometime back but didn't realise it. Thanks Seun

Sher Ry: I’m glad I found this video because I’m new to relaxed hair and I was wonder why I loose so much hair but now I know it’s not that serious. Thanks for the tips❤️

Jordan Swanier: I’m headed into my second month of these crochet passion twists and I’m so excited! Since they are crochet, there is minimal frizz and I’m in love My goal for this style is 2.5 months. I never seriously considered crochet styles because I didn’t like the look of it. But thank you so much Seun for these innovative crochet styles and braid patterns You’re totally changing the game!!!

Tasha Lane: Your hair looks beautiful Seun! Such an informative video as well.

Eunice Odiase: Thanks, Seun! I'm thinking about taking down my Tiana Passion Twists T30 too. Can't wait to see what hairstyle you do next... looking for inspiration and ideas! :)

Jaka Yansaneh: I love this hair style...after watching you put it on...I also did my hair and take them out yesterday keep for two months

wyntersteele1a: I subscribed based off of this video. I just took down a two month plait style and I had a huge ball of shed and I believe broken hair. It freaked me out to badly. I expected some but it still knocked me for a loop. Seeing how much you loss after an extended hair style puts my mind at ease.

Olives Johnson: I just took out my three months braids and I was freaked out, glad I saw this video

Alexis H.: U are so right about the takedown! So important to carefully take down. Thanks for sharing Seun! I really enjoy your content u wer one of my inspirations to start my own YouTube channel ♥️

karen horton: Very helpful! The very first time I had braids (years ago) I loved them so much and left them in for 2 1/2 months and panicked as the shed hair piled up. But after a shampoo and blow dry, I called to make my next appointment

Colleen Maduna: I’m here, watching and unbraiding my 2 months cornrows. I was so worried lol. #RelaxedHairJourney

Beautiful Me: I'm happy I saw this. I'm taking down my box braids next month and I will now be able to easily remove the hair with minimal breakage

Rachel Ezulike: Hi Seun! I love your videos! Any thoughts on braidless crochet? Or have you tried braidless crochet before? I am struggling to learn how to cornrow. Lol! Thanks for your videos...I am learning so much ❤

Berlin Charles: So insightful!!! I always was so scared to oil up my protective styles because of matting.

Aisha M: I am no longer wearing any form of extensions and see how far my hair grows naturally protective styling. I can't wait to see the results but i am inspired by how you retain your length by not touching it so i will try not to touch mine. I would like to see how to wash and moisturise the roots underneath during the whole process.

Bmore Beauty: OMG, I thought I detangled my hair when taking down braids I had in for six week but my hair tangled so bad during the washing and I lost so much hair. I don't know what the next step should be.

Hotsaucestyle: It’s so hard keeping in these twist for the second month. It’s been a month and a week for me. Next time I will try crochet. I don’t like frizzy looking styles.

P Byrd: Thank you for showing your take down technique. It is really helpful!

Andrea Roberson: Seun, I love your videos, my fave on YouTube. Thank you for teaching me to stop combing my hair when wet (what was I thinking???) How do you avoid your hair locking (dreading) when it is in protective styles? Does locking lead to extra hair loss?

Seasonal Frostbite: This channel helped me. Cause I also get the most length retention when I leave my protective in for three months.

Realm of Hair: Another brilliant video! When I took my plaits out, after 4 months, the shedding! If I hadn't been sitting down ... !!

Ona Kallendorf: I'm having braid extensions in my hair. Because I make sure my scalp is healthy, my shedding is minimum. Hence I retain a lot of length: 2 to 3 inches in a month...no joke

Renee Bank: Great video Seun! Did you take length measurements of before and afterward the protective style to compare how much length you gained from the protective style?

El's Life: Yes this really helpful information. Thanks so much for sharing so many tips.

PRECIOUS EZEALIGO: Great job, Seun! When I took my 3-month box braids off last month, my hair was a bit more than this even though my hair is like armpit length. Yet to relax it though...it is very due (just so busy)! But I need to, so that I can really see the length of my hair...can't wait.

Christian D: I'm praying my hair gets half of that length that you have then I'll be satisfied thank you for your time and tips I really enjoy your videos ❤❤❤

Evelyn Victory: And I thought I was the only one that sheds like mad....thank you

Enas Hussein: I gonna take my braids out in few days and im so grateful for watching your video cause this is my first time and i have no idea . Much much love

Valrie Coles: I enjoy watching all your videos. So informative❤️

joana quadzi: Great! Quick question, is it advisable to apply oils to the scalp while in protective hairstyles?

amika mccallum: I'm in my 1 month of braids and is struggling to keep them in for another 2 months. Hope I can get through to the third month.

Bri: Such a helpful video Seun!! Its relieving to see a big ball of hair at the end lol looking forward to the wash day video!!

Ms Ms: Great video, I want to do a crochet style but need to find braiding hair that doesn't itch. Can't keep it in that long as my hair starts to lock, 4-5 weeks max.

T B: I’m leaving my cornrows under my wig for 2 months, maximum 3, and I’m oiling it with castor oil & maybe some other oils everyday. Should I spray it once a week with leave in conditioner and water too? Or just use oil? I’ve seen multiple videos saying to moisturize with conditioner so I’m debating

amika mccallum: I'm in my 1 month of braids and is struggling to keep them in for another 2 months. Hope I can get through to the third month.

Ciao Bella: I just undid my 2 month old cornrows which I covered with wigs and the shedding..... the shedding.....even my husband freaked out but its cool now, its normal . Luckily the amount of growth was impressive

Karissa Marcano: Tbh I have no idea what's wrong with me after 1 week with braids I feel the urge to just take it out and play in my hair that has caused my hair to break alot and get short...I'm only 15 btw my hair is healthy and thick but not as long and thick as it used to be up to 2018...so 2021 I'm growing out my hair and I'm planning to keep this crochet braids for alteast a month or maybe more so yh ☺️

Marie.A_k: Hey girll, i wanted to know if this routine also works when you taking down your braids? Love your video

Bernice Antwi: I'm following you and I believe I'll get to this length by December

The Cozy Canary: Thank u for doing these videos. I always watch. It's so hard 4 me 2 keep styles in 30 mo. I did 2 mo and surprised my hair didnt lock up . What do u think about mini twits without added hair 4 3 mo? I love that olive oil lotion btw

Michiko Roberts: So i have a big question. I have curly thin hair had done naturally for years and finally did a relaxer and yes it burnt my hair about 2 inches from my scalp. I cut my hair down (crying it was about 12 past my shoulders. So now I am starting all over again. Have box braids in and need to know what style I can put in after 3 months. And just want to start growing my hair back with people who know how to do hair.

Zintle A: Seun your videos are always helpful because you really talk about it all ....appreciate you soo much

Khadija Omer: Hey Seun, When in hyese long term braids, how often do you wash them and condition? I wash my hair once every week because i feel my hair can't handle the buildup and i do want to go into long term styles like you. Thanks in advance.

LaToya Simone: I also keeps my braids in for 3 months at a time. Glad its not just me lol

Masego Mothei: Seun will you be aiming for knee-length next? Thank you for the awesome and informative videos as always

The FarmLady: Hello Seun. I totally enjoyed watching thus video. I'm natural and I've been watching your videos on your relaxed hair journey. Planning to relax my hair but I'm confused on what kind of relaxer will be best. Helppppp. o!!!

Megan Daniels: I'm good if I can last #3 days with braids in. I'm try this year. I'm not use to updos. My scalp needs to breath. Thanks for showing/ sharing the after affect of braids. Keep them coming

p:: How long do you keep your box braids in for ? Your videos have helped me btw I really want my hair to grow as much as yours .

III: ..wait, i found out what happened to me: " But for others — especially those with fine hair — even just a touch of excess oil can have quite the opposite effect. When fine or thin hair goes unwashed, it can start to stick together and look even finer"

Michelle Johnson: once you get your relaxer touch up you're gonna fully be hip length

Isibabe777: Your hair looks beautiful. It’s very clear you take very good care of it. Well done on the video . Do you relax your hair your self? If so how often?

Charlotte Brefo: Wow, the shedding amounts to the hair on my whole head !!!

Kai: I'm tryna keep my hair in for that long I'm at armpit length I'm tryna get to mid back length thats my goal to get to that length

Bertha Woods: Hey great video as usual.what can I use to thicken my hair

Hotsaucestyle: I’m back to fight the urge to take down my hair.

Stephanie Moyin: Each time I try to detangle my build up especially in my front hair after braids, 80% of the hair will fall off and I make medium sized braids and I carry it for 8 weeks maximum cause the more I carry it the more build up, tangles, and breakage. My relaxed hair strands are light though. Can organic hair mayonnaise be used to detangle braids? Or which oils do you suggest I use?

ArtsyIslandGirl Jamaican Vlogs: Here thinking about putting in some braids to gigive my hair a break. After having braids for awhile I start to miss combing my hair

TaKeisha Armstead: Hey Seun! Great video! Have you ever used Chebe powder on your hair?

Easy Skincare and Haircare: Hello Seun . That was one huge ball of hair . I always get hair breakage even though I do the best for my hair. I'm not sure at this point that hair breakage can ever be fully avoided. What do you think? Is there any hair regimen that can completely protect one's hair from breaking at all?

Bev Walsh TV: Sweat, "OIL" and dirt over time forms KNOT which causes damage.

Flatbedladyv: I hear ya!!! Im gonna try protective styling this year!!!..she says 9 days into the year...

Ivana Olatise: My hair has been in braids for about a month fingers crossed we can stretch it to another month

Manuela: What I've always wanted to know is how to take out those singles at the front? Does the process destroy the crochet braid used?

Chai Treasures: Yes I find This exciting to listen to U share this tutorial Theire is also a Tribe in Africa Who Practice Protective Syle Using a Clay like Paste to grow their hair to their buttocks or to the ground
