Tape In Hair Extensions Review: Cost + Maintenance + First Time Experience

Here's everything you need to know about tape in hair extensions before trying tape-ins for the first time! I'm sharing why I got tape-ins, the cost of my install, how I maintain my tape-in extensions, and my overall feelings about tape-extensions.

For reference, my hair in its natural state is kinky coily with a very tight curl. My hair is colored so my curl pattern has relaxed significantly.

Thanks for watching and listening to my experience with tape-in extensions. I am not a hair professional or expert, just someone who likes to keep a pretty appearance with manageable upkeep.

You know, I I think when it comes to trends, especially like beauty trends, we can be tricked here there everywhere, hey guys, welcome back to my channel. If you are new here subscribe and stick around girl stick around now, if you're returning, you know, what's going on, hey girl, good to see you again sit tight. This is about to be a good one. Okay, so today I'm covering what I feel to be like the latest and greatest hair craze, I say crazy with air quotes, because I really think it's here to stick around for a minute and it is Havens. Tapins tapins tapins they're, this form of extensions, I won't say new form of extensions, because tapings have been around for a long time, a pretty long time, um. Just to be frank, the black girlies really haven't tapped into the tape and for real until recently um. I feel, like other cultures were already doing it and it was tea, but we weren't doing it and I feel like it's, because the thought of putting tape on your hair on your natural black hair was just like I'm not about I'm not about to do that. Like it just sounds crazy, but we're about to get into the Nitty Gritty The Good, the Bad, the Ugly about tape-ins I currently have tape in so I'm giving you a review first hand, so, let's get into it. So let's start with why exactly I got David's. I got tapins for the first time about uh, probably about five weeks ago. It was my first time getting tapings. Ever I got them from um the person it usually does my hair Kita. It'S a birthday hair trap in Atlanta go see her. If you haven't already. She is amazing, she's been doing my hair for years, so when I saw her post that she was doing tapings, I've already had in my mind that I wanted to try it, but I was still on the fence and once she said that she was doing it On her Instagram I was like okay like this is my sign. I'M gon na give it a shot. I'M gon na see what it's about. So I really want to get tape ins because I I can't keep up weight. I'Ve tried the full lace wig and it looks amazing. It looks amazing. I'Ve tried closure, wigs, looks amazing, but when you got ta do the stuff with the lace that that has to do with that part, I could not keep up. I could not keep up some days yeah some days, no, not really not really, and I would think it's cute. I would think it's cute in the mirror and I go and take a picture or a video or something and look back and I'll be like. Oh, you thought you ate that he thought you thought you ate that so no um great look but the maintenance. I couldn't keep it up and keita doing my hair. She is in Atlanta and I'm still in Dallas. So, yes, I go to Atlanta for tape-in maintenance, but it's so much easier to maintain day to day for me than the wigs next reason why I got tapins. I wanted more length to my natural hair. Look it's like my natural hair like this. Is my natural hair right here? You can't you can't tell like front edges like that's my hair. My hair is throughout this hair. It'S all up and through there I just wanted more length. I really like the way my hair, like the hair that comes from my stock, looks all right. I like it already um. I have it. Colored love the color done by keto. Also love it love it love it. I just wanted some more inches like I want to do something fun and summery, and I feel like length is fun and summery, so I want to add extra length um, but also not have the extra wig maintenance, not to mention like the Wiggy lace. Look like this kind of over it tape-ins fit all of that it just this is like okay, this solution, it's not going to have me maintaining lace. It'S going to give me inches. It can blend right into my natural hair. So why not give it a shot right? So when I started the process of getting my tape ins, I got from Kita. I did this all through keita. I literally never went to purchase hair myself. I told her what I wanted to be a picture. It'S a picture of bacon the stallion - and I was just like. I want to look like this, but with my hair color and she was like got you so what she did. She got three bundles of 1B body wave. I think it was 1B. It was you know, like the natural black body wave, three bundles of tape ends and she got it in 22 and 24 inches. I don't know what the split was if it was 222 and 124. If it was 124. um, I mean 224 122.. I don't know, but I'm pleased with the outcome, so I'm going to keep putting my trust in Keys. That'S what I got in case anyone's looking to get the look now cause. I know I know I know. Oh look, look. Let me just say: Keith is the deal. Kita is the deal, I'm not I'm not here to sell everybody on the hair trap. That'S not what I'm here for I feel like for what I got. Kita gave me a great price. Okay, so let's just dive into it, the initial everything the not everything, because I don't remember the price of the color - that to be fair, I don't remember the price of her coloring, the hair, but the tape ends plus the install was 450 dollars that all that 450 dollars uh. I know she has a price for just the just the install. If you bring your own tape ins, I don't know it. I think it's someone who was getting tapings for the first time. It was a great choice to trust her with purchasing my tape-ins and experiencing tape-ins, and then, if I feel like um, I need a different type or quality of tape and somehow then I would do that later on. I don't feel like that's the case. I really like these love how it looks, love how the maintenance is so no complaints, but that is the price for the initial install. Now, after the initial install, I did have um a maintenance touch-up visit. I needed my roots dyed um hair grows. My hair is growing, so you can see black and you can still kind of take. The roots are darker, but they're toned a bit to match this color, okay, so um. In that visit I had my hair washed and styled um tapings touched up and the color color was 85. Everything else was 115, so it came out to 200 dollars. So if you're - not, let's just say, you're - not doing a color root touch up right and you're. Just doing your tape ins touch up, then that 115 is the figure that you would be looking at. In my case with who I go to for maintenance, I think personally, 115 every three weeks or so not too bad. I I was pretty pleased when I heard like oh okay, 115. uh, because I've seen prices for tapins and touch-ups that were unimaginable girl. I ain't got it. I ain't got it: okay, well the 115. I could do so. I was really happy about that and she basically just revamped the whole look now, let's get into maintenance, because maintenance is a whole different beast when we're talking about tapins. So I haven't washed this hair myself, yet I've been so so so so scared so scared. In fact, when I went for my first visit post uh initial install with keita like I was like yeah, I was just waiting to come back to do. Everything like I've been scared because I didn't know if, if I went and I washed my hair, all the tapings would just slip out like that was just such a fear of mine and then I'd have to go and get it all reinstalled again. I just did not want that to be the case. I was like. Let me just hold on until my maintenance visit with her and then let her do what needs to be done. She actually informed me that no you to wash your hair pretty regularly just about as regularly as you do, your regular hair, because the oil that comes from your scalp will cause the tape ends to slip, and that was like. Oh my gosh, oh my gosh tea. So I know that now, but I didn't know that in the beginning telling that to you guys, so you know more than me going into this, but yeah you can wash your hair blow dry it and do whatever it is that you do with your hair. When you have your tables, I don't know how what your style of choice is, but if you're going for like a straight look or you know like you - want to do some bombshell, curls or something you can wash your hair, you can blow dry it. You can press it out, whatever the case may be, and you will be okay just make sure you do it frequently enough. As far as the washes goes to keep that Scout oil at a minimum so that it doesn't hit your tape is um. As far as doing my hair on the day-to-day I go to sleep in a bonnet, I really do want to start doing. Um a roller set with like some big rollers. I actually bought some and I haven't used them yet, but I want to start doing a roller set because I feel like the roller set would be amazing, like wake up just just giving Victoria's Secret model. Curls. Yes, haven't done it yet, though I literally put the Bonnet on and go to sleep now. We all know sometimes bonnets stay on, and sometimes they don't a lot of times. Mine doesn't. But it's okay, my hair just wakes up looking like kind of wild. Think of, if you have a silk press and you go to sleep with no body and you wake up same deal same deal and I just kind of go over it once maybe twice usually once um I take my hot comb go over my edges just to Make Them Fall because we all our bodies, all sweat, have been nice, so they will shrink up without you just just crinkle on up, and I just need to just press them on out. So you can go on about our day, but that's it. If I want to throw some curls in here, I do I'm not good with flat iron curls though, and I only have a flat iron, I don't have a acrylic iron. I need to get, but I literally just need to go to like a TJ Maxx and get one, but I haven't yet, but oh and keto when she does my hair. Oh she does these amazing uh curling iron curls on my hair. Ah, that's why I need to get one, but whatever your style Choice may be it's going to work. Okay, the tape ends. They won't fail. You! I am a bit curious as to what the um, what the curly hair tape bins look like. What'S that giving to the girls? So if you do try curly tapings and, like you do a curly Style. Please comment that below like link your video or something or your Instagram, so I can see because I'm so curious, I would love to see what someone's experience is with that. So, as far as how the tapings look, I'm gon na show you what like the actual tape in, looks like oh, you can see it there's. I can feel it. So I hope you can see that. So that's a tape in I'm really trying and here's another one. So let me cover that back up Charlotte, coming up back up, so the tape bins they're, basically layered through my hair, like there's my hair tapings, my hair tapings, my hair tapings, like it's like that through my head. Basically um, I feel like there's a style of sewing. That'S like that, but I can't quite put my finger on what it's called but like that and it's like really seamless. I get so many compliments on my hair for one, the color people love the color and I think it's a compliment on the tapings just to get color compliments, because if it looked crazy like if the colors didn't match well, then people wouldn't be like. Oh, your hair color is so pretty you know, so there's that the hair colors really well Blends really well and then, ah, the texture match the texture match is crazy. Like like it's giving scalp it's it's it's giving. I was born like this. I I love it. You know, I I think when it comes to trends, especially like beauty trends, we can be tricked here there everywhere, but this isn't one of them. This isn't one of them. I have to say I am a tape and fan 10 out of 10 would highly recommend. So trendy girls - you got me here, you got me here, go and get you some tables, get you some tape. Dance girl take that wig off. Take that wig off, take it off. Okay, let that lace go because this is her. This is her. This is her. It'S giving scalp because it is gout, I'm just gon na say it like that kidding kind of kidding, wear whatever makes you happy whatever makes you feel comfortable, it's literally to each his own, like who am I to say, wear this over that, because I know I'm Gon na wear whatever I want to wear, but I do have to say tapins did not disappoint. I'M very happy very pleased shout out to keita one big shout out to keita for really doing an amazing job with my hair, just not playing in my head and like. I really trust her to just do her with my hair from choosing my hair color, because I did not choose my hair color. I told her. I want blonde, do your thing and she did it. Uh told her. I want tape in here's the mega picture. Do your thing and she did it like shout out to keita pull up on her. I will have her Instagram in the description below.
