Removing Your Tape In Extensions

I’m back to walk you thru how I remove my tape in extensions and prepare them for reuse! It’s a tedious process and can be frustrating but with a little patience and these tips, you’ll have little issue!

As I mentioned, I don't use extensions anymore because of all the improvements I've made to my hair (see those here)- https://youtu.be/1Lk_4akBVKc

Hey guys welcome back to my channel, my name is brooke rush, and i wanted to come back here today, since so many people feel as though my diy tape and extensions video was something that was helpful to them. I wanted to come back here today and even though i have not used extensions in almost a year. Yes, it has been that long. I wanted to show you guys exactly how i was taking them out or talk you through that how i was taking them out and how i was actually prepping them to reuse them. So one of my absolute favorite things about the diy tape and extensions was actually the fact that i didn't have to repurchase that hair every single time. Most of my extensions, i was able to use for four or five different installations, so i wasn't repurchasing the hair over and over again couple things about getting them out. So the number one thing i can tell you is to wait until they're ready to come out now. What do i mean by that? So certainly you're gon na have regrowth over the time that you're wearing the extensions, meaning that the extension is going to move further and further away from your actual scalp. So as that's happening, it's going to seem as though your extension's actually slipping. Sometimes that can happen too, but most of what you're going to see if you're keeping them in for that four to six week week. Time frame is actually that your hair grew and therefore it moved away from your scalp. So, if you're trying to take them out before that, four to six week mark, they are going to be more difficult, because the reality is that no matter how much we're washing our hair using dry shampoo while we have them in our scalp, is creating oils. No matter how much we try to keep those oils away from those that adhesive it is going to eventually make it there. So if you are leaving them in for the four to six week time, you will really see how much easier it is to take them out of your hair by simply going in and peeling them apart. If it seems as though they're not easily coming off number one, it may be that it's too soon doesn't mean you can't take them out, but that's why that adhesive is still nice and strong, and that bond is firm um, but two. It just might mean that you need to add a little something towards getting them off of your head without taking your hair out. So when i first started wearing them, i thought for sure that i had to buy what they sold in order to get it out, and so i picked up. This is the x10 pro pro tools: uh professional, let's see professional tools and supplies for extension, this is the skin weft tape in and plast remover, so it works, but it makes reusing your extensions, very difficult and actually to me this is a lot more of a Hassle than peeling them apart, so i always try to get out all the ones that i could by simply prying them. Apart with my fingers and generally, what i would do is pry them apart. The bottom one would stay in and then i would actually try to kind of flick that from the top of it and gently peel it off of the hair that was there and believe it or not, or not, with the exception of the hair that i shed, That is stuck in those tapes because remember, you should be losing roughly 50 to 100 hairs per day in a healthy head of hair. So if you're, taking your extensions out and you're, seeing that you have hair stuck in those extensions, it doesn't necessarily mean that the extensions took your hair out. It means that that's part of the 50 to 100 hairs a day that you had been shedding, that entire four to six weeks, that weren't coming out in the shower, because they're wedged in between these tapes so say all that. To say, though, that using this like. I said, while it will help get them out, does make reusing your extensions more difficult. So keep that in mind, if you're planning on reusing the hair, you want to do as much as you can to avoid using the oils and that kind of thing to reuse them, because those oils are very, very difficult to completely strip from the hair afterwards. So your next set of adhesive tapes that you're going to apply to them to re use them is not going to stick as well. So the other thing that i have used, though, so if i have difficult ones and quite honestly, i hate the smell of this. If i have difficult ones, what i actually will do is go in with melted, coconut oil and i would simply stand in the shower and pour that into over the top of my head and then just massage that into my scalp and into those tapes. Obviously, i don't need to worry about the hair. That'S hanging down we're just looking at finding a way to saturate those tapes with something that is more of an oil. So once you get them out - and i will say taking out, tape-ins is way less fun than putting them in and there just is no way around that it. It stinks, but also prepping them for the next time. You'Re gon na use them is not fun either. All of this is to save money, so for me, it didn't matter how not fun it was. I was not gon na sit in somebody else's chair and give them hundreds of dollars to do the same thing. When i knew i was capable so as i take them out, here's these are one of my old ones and also, obviously i'm not using these ones anymore. As i take them out, i always sandwich them right back together because number one it's less mess, i don't have you know, exposed adhesive sitting in stacks sitting in stacks of other hair, so i always stick them back together and then, when i'm ready to prep them For reuse, i'd simply pull them apart and most of this adhesive believe it or not. If you just start to pick with your thumbnail, will actually start to peel up and come off as a tape. So it might not stay all in one piece, but if you just go back with the tape on your finger and pull, you can get 99 of this adhesive off without doing anything else, and this is before i wash them and before i do anything else with Them so 99 of that tape is gone and that one would be acceptable to just put your new fresh tape on so here's one that i already stuck the new tape and i think i'll link them again, but the tapes are super inexpensive. You buy them in packs and they easily will then replace the tapes that were on there so that one came off fairly simple little glob of glue. That sometimes has that's not my hair, that's extension, hair. The other thing that you can do - and this actually works super well and i use foils. So i didn't pull any out today, so i'll, take a clipboard put a piece of foil on the clipboard and then, if you start at the top, i use something like this. If you start at the top of your foil press down that extension tape and then smear it onto the foil, you actually can get a lot of it off on there as well. So that's another method to get it off, as i am going through, though, before i put my next set of tapes on once, i get all of the glue kind of picked, peeled or smushed off onto that foil. I actually will take a clip and, as i am doing, each set grab my clip here here we go as i'm doing each set. I will get the tape off and then just feed them onto my clip and each one that i do is gon na go on that clip until in the end, i have one big giant sandwiched clip of extensions all with the bands here at the top, and Then what i'll do is wash them, so the absolute best way to wash them is to keep them in this clip and really massage in your shampoo. You can condition them and anything else that you wouldn't want to do. While you have that adhesive in them. That'S when you want to do it and if you leave them clipped together like this, it is way less of a nightmare once i unclip them. This is my husband's absolute favorite part once i unclip them i'll brush through them. Well, take them off the clip and then i actually drape every one of them individually over the bar of my shower and hang them there to to dry. You will notice that, and i'm sure you already know this, because you know that you would notice this when you wash your hair, that the extensions generally have a lot of curl in them. So you're going to see that curl again when they're hanging there, but not a huge deal by any stretch. So the reality is that i don't know why that video blew up when it did. But i am so excited that you guys benefited from it in any way. If you tried doing extensions yourself, i thank goodness learned a few things over the last year to where i don't actually need to use extensions anymore. So, if that's something, if that's something you actually are interested in, take a look at the video in my uh group of videos that talks about how i healed. My hair collagen has been my absolute best friend in the world and has allowed my hair to grow significantly over the last 11 months since actually last may is when i started it, and that, in conjunction what i realized about hair extensions is, this volume was was More important than length for me, so the biggest thing i can tell you is that when i would take out my extensions at the end of that four to six week time frame instantly, i felt like i was bald and i still had length. But what i realized that was missing was the volume at the root right. The best solution in the world came to me in the form of another youtube video. When i learned about the volume, the volume is honestly between the volume and the small changes that i've made to my diet, getting rid of diet, soda, adding collagen and that type of thing combined with this volume has made it. So i don't have to deal with extensions anymore. I love the look of extensions. I didn't think that the tape ins were damaging on my hair. I actually used tape ins for a very long time so that i didn't have to do as much damage to my hair, so that was part of healing my hair, but i hated so i'm big into water sport. I hated going skiing and then having that matted mess to deal with, i hated sleeping on extensions when they were new or there's a lot of things i didn't like about them, and so that's why? I don't do it anymore, because that volume gives me what i was missing at the root when i didn't have extensions in so if you're riding the same line, i am, and the length is not as important as the volume give this a try, because this may Prevent you, the hassle of having to go through redoing extensions, every four to six weeks and prepping them and the whole deal, and this is a one-time purchase, whereas my boxes and boxes of hair that i have at this point are something that i had to maintain. So give that a thought if you found this video helpful, i would absolutely love it. If you hit the subscribe button below and gave me a thumbs up, i have enjoyed this journey so much so thank you for being part of it, and i will talk to you soon.
