Why Does Our Hair Extensions Tangle And Matt?!

A short synopsis of what I've come to believe is one of the leading causes of hair extension tangle and matting.

Hi everybody I'm here to talk a little bit about clipping hair extension hair. Today, specifically, I know that I've experienced quite a few issues in the last year with hair extension hair. I have tried - probably six or seven different companies of different manufacturers and every manufacturer will process hair differently, but I've experienced some similar issues with with each of them specifically over time. It loses its shininess, it starts tingling and it starts matting and it just becomes so unmanageable, and it makes me really frustrated and I used so many different hair products. Leave-In conditioners, hair masks, leave-in treatments, oils, different shampoos and conditioners, and it it doesn't really give it. The result or bring the hair back to life in the same way, it was in the condition when I opened the package the first day when I, when I originally got the extensions so the last set of hair extensions. I'Ve had I've been really really happy with its manageability and overall shininess softness tangle free. It'S you know, it hasn't mattered at all, and I've been doing things a little bit different. The first thing that I've been doing is, I know. I'Ve mentioned this quite a few times in my other videos is that I don't wash the hair. I run my last video. I don't wash the hair, often at all um, every four to six weeks, um. That may seem like a long time, but the hair isn't really getting dirty. Maybe if you go out and it's like really windy and dusty outside and you feel like your hair has some grit or grime in it go ahead and wash it. I don't wash it with shampoo, I only wash it with conditioner, so I'm getting it wet with lukewarm water. I have a finding the conditioner or leaving it, and just I don't know, maybe 30 to 60 seconds and then I'm rinsing it out really really well. So I know there's no there's no greasy Ness left in the hair from the conditioner and then letting it air dry, not applying any leave-in conditioners and the oils anything like that, and I'm having a really really good result. Now I'm going to share with you guys my opinion on why we're experiencing some of these issues with the hair as far as the tingling goes and the losing the dullness losing the shininess losing softness and the manageability most of the hair extension hair comes from China. In India, the hair and its raw form is very, very dark brown, if not sometimes black most of the hair is not donated in a very light. You know condition it's really dark, and so, in order to to lighten the hair to lift the color out of the hair of it, there has to go through many many different phases of whitening. It'S not just like they put bleach on it and then they die in and that's it. It goes through many different stages of lightening and because it goes through all these different stages. Of course it gets damaged. If you, you know which the hairdresser and you know put peroxide on your hair find a different time. Your hair's going to come out pretty dry and pretty damaged, and you know we should expect the extension hair to be in a similar condition. So why? When we get from the company, is it so shiny, it's a wise, it's so soft and so silky? Well, I think that is because they're applying the silicone layer on the outside of the hair and they're also removing the error on the outer cuticle, not the complete cuticle, but at least some a couple layers they are. Removing someone in my son is in the background playing with my stereo, so I apologize you guys but anyways. So this you know when you get a hair. That is this shiny. I don't know if you guys can see this. This is a hair extension quad weft that I got from head kandi. If you can see like that, there's four there's four weft sewn onto this one piece which is really cool. I haven't gotten to like do anything with it yet, but I just had it handy to show you guys what I'm talking about anyway, so it's really really shiny. It'S really soft! I can just run my fingers through it without any resistance. At all I mean it's like super tangle free and it's really manageable. It'S really nice hair um. You know, but I think that it does have some silicone on it. Now, silicone don't get scared when I think that it's not necessarily a bad thing, you have to realize because it does have it on there, the more you wash it the more you use products and it the more you use Hot Tools on it. The more that silicone layer is gon na be stripped away, and once the silicone layer is stripped away, then you're going to get a dullness in the color you're, going to get a lot of tangling a lot of matting and and that's it, and so even like Um, you know if you want to apply a dye on it. Let'S say you know, you got this blonde hair and it's really not it's a little bit lighter than your natural color and you want to diet, go ahead and diet, but realize that even if you use a volume 10 developer, it does have some peroxide in. It is that the abrasiveness and the peroxide is going to be straight away from without silicone layer. You know, and that's just kind of the nature of it, so don't be afraid that there is silicone on it, but just be aware that the more you wash it and do all these different things to it, the more that's going to be stripped off and you're Going to shorten the lifespan of the extension hair itself and another thing is: is remy? Hair doesn't have the cuticle a hundred percent intact. So if you take your hair in a vertical position like this, and you run your fingers down your hair, it feels really smooth and soft. Okay, if you take your fingers at the base for the tips of your hair and you run them towards the roots at the other direction, it feels really happy, and you know if it's really rough and there's a lot of friction by doing that, now, take your Hair extension hair and do the same thing you run it down, it feels really smooth. You run it up the other direction going this way, and it still feels really smooth it doesn't see. You don't have the same amount of friction that your natural hair has and the extension hair. It fills almost the same way, no matter what direction you run, your your fingers, I've been done, it the hair shaft, and that's because the the manufacturer has stripped away some of the cuticle in order to make it smoother and more tangle free, the cuticle in your Hair is typically what creates tingles and matting, and so in order to have a good product to offer to you guys, and they do remove some of the cuticle. It doesn't it's not remy hair at that point, because some of it is so up dharma. It feels it feels slightly different, but it doesn't it's just I mean if you go like this, it does feel like there is still some cuticle on there, but it's in no way the same quality as your natural hair, cuticle being and being completely intact. So so anyway, so uh, that is just kind of some of the things that I've observed and my opinions, like, I said, no company, I don't you know that, will advertise that they have silicone on their hair. It'S not necessarily known as a good thing, but it's not necessarily a bad thing, at least in my opinion, either. But when we're wearing clip in hair extensions, we just need to be aware of the fact that they're that most likely there is silicone on the hair and to be prepared to treat it and more delicately and and it needs a lot different care than your natural Hair does don't treat it like I'm out of hair, because it's not the same anyway. So that is kind of my opinion and I hope you guys get something out of it and so until next time catch ya later bye, you

AJ77: This was SO helpful. Thank you so much. I have Luxy's and experienced horrible dulling, matting, and splitting really bad after the first month. I'll take your advice now. You're gorgeous and really informed! xxx

Amanda Monk: I saw a couple tutorials about using a boiling method to bring back old extensions. This does sound sketchy at best but is seems other ladies are having good results. SOOOO I have a set of old extensions that are garbage anyhow so in fear I have decided to try this method on them instead of my new ones. Much like our blonde friend in the Vid I have tried also a few brands of hair and always run into this matting and tangling and dryness. I am VERY blond also, so many this is a trend? @ Kewteama > When I curl mine it the hair sticks together and the curls fall out and it gets frizzy too. My last extensions I paid 220 for down from 300 and it is from ABANTU which where I live is the #1 place to get hair...So it is not the product. I will repost tomorrow to report if this boiling process with a repair product in the water has worked. Also EVOO treatment is supposed to help also. * Also I do not blow dry and have tried to use only conditioner ...has helped a little. Good luck out there ladies... Im glad to know I'm not in this boat alone

iToxicShelly: I've had my extensions for a month and they get so tangled and it's just insane, I will literally go into the car and they're already tangled. I hardly wash them, I treat them etc, I had another set of extensions last me 3 and a half years with no problem until I took them to Mexico, but these are new and causing me so much trouble.

HairGirl247: Very informative and pretty accurate but Cuticle Remy hair is suppose to have all cuticles running in the same direction and left on to prevent most tangling as appose to non Remy hair where the cuticle is completely stripped away. :) This is why non Remy hair is more tangle prone.

M Ashley: I just got a set of FoxyLocks extensions, my third company to try, and I have only washed the hair twice. I am already experiencing these problems! I used a anti-residue shampoo to remove all of the excess residue from leave in conditioners and treatments. Do you think I removed all of the silicone? I don't know what to try now! I cannot even wear them because they are so unruly and I just got them. Thanks for all of the information! :)

M Ashley: @BeautyGenesis This is a follow-up from about a month ago when I asked you about my problems with FoxyLocks. I emailed them telling them of my problems and that I had only washed the hair twice and it was absolutely unwearable. She emailed back saying to soak them in olive oil. I emailed back and told them I had already tried olive, coconut, and macadamia nut oil and there was no change. I got no response. I am now using HeadKandy extensions and I LOVE them.

Andrea Harper Extensiones: Imagine how good her channel would be if she had kept making videos

sekzymexi: I agree with everything you said! Im a poo free girl and shampooing hair definantly isnt good for it!

Brittany Paige: i like to switch my hairstyle very frequently between straight and curly. If my extensions are curled from the day before and i want to wear them straight now, Is it better to wash them (with just conditioner) and let them naturally dry straight, or take a flat iron and straighten them using heat? obviously neither is good, but which is better?

Anything But Average: Did you have these problems with your lush locks extensions? I just bought a pair and i just saw my first negative review of them (i've been searching for one of those for almost a year now) and they said they have had them for a month and they tangle horribly and they can't wear them. i'm so terrified that this will happen to me again (my luxy hair extensions were a horrible mistake). Please help me with this as it is freaking me out.

LilMegs98: I have glue in extentions and this is happening to mine where they are becoming very tuggy and hard to keep soft and smooth will this work for them as well?

Cierra Michener: I dyed my extensions and now they are a big tangled ball, what should I do ?

monsterskb: im so happy to see another one of your videos, i love them!!!

Grace Valdez: Great video! I purchased Luxy hair extensions like 2 weeks ago and they are all tangled already like impossible to wear them, I wash them 1 time because I was trying to help them out but got worst.. can you suggest me something to do please? I don't want to lose them but doesn't matter what products I use they just don't get back to the original form.. :(( help please!! thanks in advance!

Sam S: what extension brand do you recommend?

AznBarbieNath: Great info! Thanks!

Nadiinekat: what extensions do you use?

Lily White: Thank u so much this was great info.

M Ashley: @BeautyGenesis Good idea! Thank you very much for the response! :)

jenn harper: @glamorusx101x THATS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENS TO ME! I thought I was the only one! How did you fix this problem?!

blair kerbo: what extension do u use and what brand have you used? cuz i dont wanna buy a bad brand

Sami A: dont wash them more than twice. if you do they will suck. i know they say wash them but everytime i do they get worse and it sucks bc i payed $140 for my clip in extensions.

kiki85900: have you tried foxy locks or luxy hair extensions? r they bad? cus I'm thinking of getting them

Simply Extensions: I can't wait to try that on myslef. Have you ever tries Sijmply Extensions! I my little secret, and so afordable its crazy

Reata96: But what if your hair fades, and extensions dont? Mine does that and it makes me sad... :(

Dulce Rico: can you buy silicone for hair extensions to try to make them softer?

Jennifer Almarez: dids you ever get the answer for that? I want to know the same thing:)

Candy Canee: So where do we get this silicone stuff

kristelloo: really good tips

Lynn Daniel: I wonder if the bleach bath method would work on very light colored hair.....

stuckupturtles: She looks just like Britney Snow! lol my extensions I took out after 2 months because they had gotten so bad that brushing them out w/ a special brush was ripping out my hair and then after an hour off styling, five minutes and I'd have a new rat's nest. I had the beaded kind, not clip in, so I didn't have the option of keeping products out of my hair. I was wondering if you'd ever tried the beaded kind and if after my horrible experience w/ it if you'd still recommend clip ins

Christine Brand: was JUST gonna say that, they're twins!!

ayeni sia: Hi i had never extensions but my lo g bob matted thats were terrible so i cut it can i ask you why hair matte ?

Violetpebbles 13: you look EXACTLY like Brittany snow

Jamie Hart: your outfit is beautiful!

attackattackkkkk: You look like Brittany Snow!
