Hi guys welcome back to house of hair uk happy new year to everyone. If you're new to this channel, don't forget to subscribe and hit the notification bell, so you're notified anytime, i post new content on this channel. We talk about all things, hair extensions. If you don't already know me, i'm ayanda and i'm the owner of house of hair uk, which is a london based hair extension salon in today's video. I'M going to be talking to you guys about how you can care for your hair extensions. So we actually give all of our clients a very detailed hair care guide on how they can look after their hair extensions. We also have this as a downloadable pdf on our website. However, we sometimes get clients coming who say that they really struggle to do their first wash or they felt very intimidated to blow dry their hair with hair extensions in so in today's video, i'm going to be showing you guys how you do all of this. How you prep your hair beforehand, washing how you prep your hair before washing how you wash your hair extensions, some of the products that you might want to consider using and how to blow dry. Your hair extensions, if you're interested in learning more keep watching because we are in lockdown here in london. I am actually having to do today's video with my beautiful model, who is also my training head that i use in my training classes. The first thing that we're going to discuss, or the first thing that we're going to talk about, is how to prep your hair before you wash when you've got hair extensions. This type of prepping is for any type of hair extension, so whether you've got tape in micro links, l.a weave, braidless weave and by prepping. All i actually mean is that the hair extensions and your own hair needs to be detangled and brushed ready for you to wash okay. So the first thing that you want to do is you want to thoroughly detangle your hair. Now it depends on the texture of hair that you actually have in if you've got kinky straight or yucky, textured, hair or hair extensions. That'S a little bit more coarse texture. You might want to go in with your hands first and detangle yep, so we're just going to run our fingers through and we're going to detangle being as gentle as possible. We don't want to put any tension on our actual hair at the roots. You then want to start brushing from the ends of the hair, and you want to firmly hold on to your hair and the hair extensions at the top, so that you're not putting any tension on it. Now, there's a few different brushes that i would use so tangle teezers. Allow you to brush your hair right from the root all the way down to the end of the hair, denman brushes they're more for mid section to the ends. You don't ever want to put a denman brush right at the root of the hair extension, because sometimes they can pull and they can snag on the actual hair extensions or you can use a soft bristle brush. So you might want to separate so that you can get into those hair extensions rows and you might want to detangle. You might want to then lift up your next track or your next row of hair extensions and you might want to detangle okay. So once your hair is thoroughly detangled, it's now time for you to go and do your wash one of the key things to remember is that when it comes to washing your hair, you always want to wash your hair in a natural backwards direction. You do not want to flip all of your hair and the hair extensions in a forward direction and start washing and massaging your scalp and your hair in a forward direction. The main reason for this is that when you pull your hair backwards, you might find that your hair extensions and your natural hair have started to tangle okay, so let's get into the shampooing process. So, once your hair is fully wet with water, you then want to use a generous amount of shampoo, and you want to make sure that you are rubbing the hair extensions and your own hair from mid to end section in between the palm of your hand, like I'M doing in the video once you have rubbed the hair extensions from mid to the end section and you've got all of that dirt on you're, then going to use close to the tip of your hands or the tip of your fingers, but not quite the tip Of your fingers, you don't want to use your nails. You just want to use just the tip of your fingers and you want to gently massage with the tip of your fingers or the palm of your hand and you're going to rub those hair extensions and your own hair, so that you are thoroughly cleaning your scalp. You don't ever want to use your nails, otherwise you can cause some irritation if the ingredients on the shampoo and conditioner that you're using are high in sodium and by high i mean in the listed in the first kind of four ingredients, then your product is too High in sodium, you also don't want products that are high in alcohol or high in citric acid because they all dry your hair and the hair extension, so please make sure you're using low sodium products. So for european. Ladies with hair extensions, i would recommend maybe washing twice a week and for black ladies or other races, i would recommend that you wash your hair, maybe once a week or once every fortnight you don't need to go overboard with washing your hair. So, let's get into the condition and once you've washed your hair twice with a shampoo. You then want to go in and you want to lightly dry your hair before putting the conditioner on it's best, not to put conditioner on soaking wet hair, so you're going to lightly dry. It you're going to use a generous amount of conditioner depending on the product that you use. I would recommend that you use more moisturizing conditioners and you're going to go only from the mid to the end section of your hair. You never want to put conditioner at your root, no matter what hair extensions you have on the conditioner actually penetrates your hair, and you can find that you get a build up underneath the micro beads or build up in the braids or underneath the brazilian not string. Also, the conditioner can make the hair extension slide out. You then want to massage that in lightly, just like you did the shampoo and you want to glide your fingers for it, making sure that conditioner is touching all of your hair and all of the hair extensions you can leave the conditioner on for a couple of Minutes and rinse, or you can put a shower cap on and make sure that you're penetrating or making sure that you're getting more heat so that the hair conditioner penetrates your hair a little bit more and you can put a shower cup on and leave it. Maybe for five to ten minutes before rinsing off with warm water, not hot water. So when it's time to rinse off your conditioner or your treatment mask, you want to actually turn the temperature of your water down and make sure that you are only rinsing it with kind of a warm to lukewarm temperature. You don't want to rinse it off with very hot water after you've finished your wash and your condition. It'S now time for you to dry the hair extensions. This is what most people are intimidated by, but i promise you it's very easy and very simple. So one of the first things that you're going to do is you're going to use your towel or a t-shirt. I know a lot of people use a t-shirt because they say towels are quite harsh on their hair and you want to squeeze out a little bit of the moisture. We'Re then going to go in with our heat protector. So i put a heat protector when i'm blow drying and also when i'm straightening - and this is because you want to protect your hair and the hair extensions from any heat and obviously you're, going to blow dry your hair, while most people blow dry their hair on A hot heat there is a whole range of different heat protectors on the market. You'Ve got some heat protectors that have got sunscreen in it. You'Ve got oil-based heat protectors, which more kind of black women will use so that they can put a bit of moisture in their hair and you've got heat protectors that are more water-based, so they're more suitable for you to put on your hair when it's damp, as Opposed to after once, your hair is dry. You might not want to go in with a water-based heat protector to straighten out your hair, otherwise it will put too much water on the surface of your hair again so for today, i'm going to be using the chai iron guard. So it's a heat protector for straightening, your hair, but i think it's just as good for blow drying, so we're going to spray from a distance. So if it was your own hair, you're going to spray it from a distance like this you're going to lift up your hair extensions and you're going to spray like that, make sure you're coating everything with a little bit of protector once your hair is then coated With the heat protector you're going to section it off into four, i find that working in full is a lot easier for me. I have kinky straight hair extensions, so they go very curly and then my own natural hair has got only got a texture release in it. So my hair reverts back to being curly. I prefer to section my hair off in four. If you've got more hair than me, then you might want to section it off into six. So this is the hair. Here, i'm blow drying once you've sectioned it off into four quarters. You then want to section off the quarter. The first quarter that you're going to be blow drying. I normally split that in two brush that you're going to use once your hair is wet, is going to be slightly different or you can still use a tangle teezer brush. But i wouldn't advise using a soft brush because i don't feel that it gets through wet hair very well, so i would either use like a paddle brush. I would use a denman brush or i would use a tangle teezer. So now i'm going to use a denman brush and i'm going to hold the top of the hair and detangle again, i'm gon na hold the top hold this firmly and we're gon na detangle. So i'm gon na demonstrate for you that i'm just gon na blast over the hair with the hairdryer before i actually go and put direct heat on it yeah. So if it was my own hair, i'm going to blast over it with a hair dryer like this before i go in and start doing direct heat with the blow dryer. If your hair is curly, then you might want to brush your hair and hold it firmly stretching it slightly. So you don't want it bunched up. You want to stretch it slightly and then so, once your hair is around 70 to 80 dry, i'm just showing you guys, one of the ways that i blow dry hair and that is by pushing the brush into the hair, turning it away from the client's hair Or from your own hair and then gliding it down the hair with the blow dryer directly blowing onto the hair. Another way that i might do it is, i might go underneath that full section of hair with the brush and as you can see here and then i'm gon na put the blow dryer over the top of it in a downward direction. And then i'm gon na blow dry, the hair out, i'm just gon na demonstrate for you why you don't want your blow dryer going in up direction because, as you can see here, it's gon na cause a lot of tangling you're going to get a lot of Static, the hair is not going to be very smooth, so you always want to go in a downward direction. So i'm just going to demonstrate that for you on my own actual hair, so i'm going to brush my hair in and i'm going to flip my wrist. So that i'm lifting up some of the hair extension and then i'm going to follow it with the blow dryer. I'M then doing it from the top and then i'm going to go underneath my hair extensions with the brush and put the hairdryer above my hair. In a downward direction and that's going to smooth out my hair as well as blow drying it, you can obviously go closer to the root, but because my hair is not wet, i'm just demonstrating it for you, on kind of the middle. To the end section of my hair, once you've finished blow drying, your first section you're then going to continue with the rest of your hair, so after you've finished blow drying all of your sections out. I would then advise that you put some more heat protector on your hair and then again go section by section for straightening. So i would take a very small section, starting at the nape of the neck, and i would straighten that out. So another question that i'm always asked is: what do i do with my hair extensions at nighttime? Should i put it in a hair band, should i braid it? Should i wear a hair bonnet? Should i put a head scarf on it, and all of those are absolutely correct. So the key thing when it comes to wearing your hair at night, nighttime or protecting your hair extensions at night is to make sure that your hair again is in a natural direction. So you wouldn't want to put your hair up in a top knot right at the top of your head, because you're going to put tension on your hair at the scalp. So you want to always make sure that it's in a low ponytail and that your hair is going in a natural direction. Some ladies want to keep moisture in their hair, so they will opt for putting a head scarf or a hair bonnet on their hair, and some ladies find that the hair extensions actually irritate their back at night time. So they might put a small braid in the back of it and then put the hairband at the end so that the hair extensions are not loose and not tickling and irritating their back. So that is the end of my how to care for your hair extensions, video guys, if you like this video, don't forget to give it a thumbs up. Alexandra Vasic: FYI ladies, if you have very curly coarse hair, wet the hair first, separate into 2 sections on your head and add lots of conditioner first, then use a tangle teazer or boar bristle denman brush on each side and brush through with it wet with conditioner, this will be so much easier to detangle, hope this helps!!!
