Eva Marcille’s Locs Hairstyle Tutorial | How I Do | Harper’s BAZAAR

#EvaMarcille #HairTutorial

Hey guys, it's your girl, Eva Marcille here and you caught me in extremely rare form.. No, I don't have on any clothes, but I do have clean hair.. So what I'm gon na show you today is how I achieve my hair situation from washing to maintenance to styling. ( bright upbeat, music ). So I just finished washing my hair and the washing is a full process.. Let'S just start with the beginning of it all.. I have locs., These are not temporary locs.. These are not braids. This is not synthetic hair.. This is my hair locked.. I have my locaversary actually coming up in a year. I'M super excited., But loc maintenance people don't really understand.. You have to maintain your locs, just like you have to maintain your hair, your regular here free flowing hair.. So this is what I do.. So I shower. I wash my hair about once a week and when I wash my hair, I use an array of products. For my scalp. I use this. Now my friends, her name is Brittany, but she has an amazing company called Essential Means and she has the shampoo.. She literally makes it at home.. It is epic., It makes your hair grow so fast.. I went from two inches of hair at the reunion of Real Housewives of Atlanta at the top of last year to boggling hair in a matter of six months from this shampoo.. So I use this, but I use this only from my roots., So I take it. I go in through each little part of my hair.. Don'T forget the middle of your hair, that crown is glory. And then I just use my fingers, my favorite part to just massage that.. So I massage in my hair, my scalp gets really soapy and sudsy and I know it's getting clean. But then remember since I have locs, I have a lot of hair down here., So I have a four step process I use for that. Now, there's a company Called Nappstar. They are amazing., They are all about locs. And they have a one two, three four step process.. I use this clarifying shampoo on my locs.. I don't put it all the way in the roots of my hair, but I use it in the locs.. That'S because my husband and I like to smoke cigars. I play with my children I roll around in the grass. I find myself very busy in getting very dirty, very often., So I use that to just break down all the dirt. Rinse that out, then I do step two. Tea tree shampoo.. This is everything.. It gives you that, like tingly feeling it opens up your pores, it helps your hair to grow it revitalizes. It helps diffuse split ends, so this sample is so necessary. You have to do your tea tree., But then, after you strip your hair of all dirt and all oil, you have to put some moisture back in.. So that's my favorite step., The next one, which is the deep moisturizing shampoo. I put that at the bottom of my hair, but I also then put that into the roots of my hair, because I wan na make sure that my hair just doesn't get dry.. So then, after I do that, then we almost conditioned our hair right Right, say it with me right.. So I ripped everything out. Take the conditioner and I OD.. I go ham, turkey and cheese.. That'S why it's not a lot left ,'cause. I just take it and I squirt and put it all over my hair. And I just ( indistinct ) it and I move it around and I sit in the shower for like 15 minutes just to let the conditioner sit in and like do its thing.. Now. After your final rinse is done, you're feeling good. You get out of the shower. You do like. I did with my microfiber towel dry, your hair off. Now you're clean, but you're, not done., No, no! No! No! No! There is so much more to do.. So after this process now I have to go to the moisturizing and let's make it smell, good process.. Let me show you what that is. After we've finished drying and we're all clean and we're ready to start our day., Then we go into that leave in products. Now, leave in products make sure they say leave in'cause. If they don't, then a lot of times they cause what they call residue or build up., And that's that extra cakey stuff around your hair and you're like what is that Is that lint? No, it's product, buildup.! No bueno not good., Not good, for your hair at all.. So what I like to start with anyone that knows me knows: I live to die by rose, water. Rose, water is your friend.. If you have locs, if you have braids, if you have loose hair, if you have curly hair, if you have straight here., This is a hydrating product that will make every hair come to life.. So I use this and I literally go through open you own up and spread through my whole head (, bright, upbeat, music, ). Oh, you can't smell it, but it smells so good.. Speaking of smelling good, I have a product that doesn't smell good, which is why I use the rose water. Now go back to my friend. Essential Means talked about the shampoo., It's epic.. It makes your hair grow like crazy.. Now she also has a product called Simply Growth. You're. Looking at this bottle, you're like what is that for your home cleaning? Is that for something in the shower? Yes, for your hair, you shake it up and you literally spray it in your scalp.. I don't spray on my hair'cause there's something in there that makes it smell very funky, but it makes your hair grow. So take this growth. Spray doesn't smell good, but works really well. And you get in there and you hit your scalp. If you can't feel it on on then you're not touching the right spots.. Now, black women, we have a thing called an infatuation with edges, that's the edge of your hair.. Now, because we use and do so many protective styles like wigs and different ponytails and braids and twist then a lot of time. You get strained to your edges.. So you have to give love to your edges.. This growth spray gives love to your edges., Thank God for the rose water, which covers up the what the heck does that smell smell. So boom we have our rosewater in. We have our growth spray. In now. I have a leave in spray conditioner that I use. Now I try not to use too many creams on my hair because it goes back to that thing. I was telling y'all about that residue.. So I have this spray. Some an amazing company called Dr. Locs. And it's specifically for people with locs.. Now what I love about this product is, it smells like heaven. All of their stuff smells like lemon grass, how she does it. I don't know I'm not asking I'm just spraying., So I use this and I spray this all over my hair. And there's something about the moisture that actually allows you to manipulate your locs even better, which means that when you go into styling your hair, it moves Better for you., So it's been a year again since I've had locs. Now some of you guys know my life and my journey and for those that don't I have a seven year old daughter and I locked her hair when she was two years old.. I started her locs, I maintenance her locs and I love her locs.. If I can die and come back as another person, it would be Marley for her hair, like it's epic., But I realized after fangirling over my daughter's hair. I realized you know what Eva you can have that hair too. And not just because I think it's cute, but more importantly, so that my daughter has a representation at home of what a proper standard of beauty is.. The world tells us that this is beautiful.. So a lot of times we think if this is beautiful, then this must not be right. Well, no, this is beautiful and that is beautiful., That's beautiful too, and so is that.. So that's the space that I'm in. So today I have to go pick up. My daughter so, which means I might see some teachers and I wan na, look like a parent. And since I'm the hippie mom anyway, so I try to be like some kinda professional situation.. So what we're gon na do is we're gon na divide, my hair in two and I'm gon na do twist going back. I'M gon na show you how I do it. Now, I'm the girl that does not like a lot of bobby pins.. I don't like ponytail holders. I don't like all that stuff., So I tried to figure out how to do styles that I can do using just my hair., So I'm gon na start with my hands and we're just gon na go ahead and start by dividing my hair.. So we divide in two there's no such thing as perfection. There'S only you and that's perfect enough. In the back dividing down, I'm dividing down, I'm dividing down. So now time to twist. Make sure all the hair is in the same direction.. I'M gon na start at the top, the middle of the part and just literally take my hand and it's the flick of the wrist. As I twist then I take new hair from the outside near my ear in my temple and I twist it around.. So you see it's around., Then I take hair from back here and tuck it through and pull that back. Around. See we are there We're halfway. Through., Take more hair from the front by the ear and twist it around.. Oh, do we have a style happening? I think we have a style happening.. Okay, continue doing the same thing. (, bright, upbeat, music, ), And now we have a beautiful twist.. Now I told you I'm not using any hair ties., I'm not using any bobby pin.. Well, what am I using I'm using my hair. Okay? So this is what I do.. I then take see this one piece right here that I did not put up This lone ranger. Well, this lone ranger is my best friend.. This is the hero for today. Okay, guys Alright, so you take this and you wrap her around you tuck her through you pull that down and we have a twist. Boom boom, boom., Nice and professional.. So well. We have to do the same thing to the other side.. So don't forget we're starting at the top. Make sure all your hair is in the direction that you wan na go into., (, bright, upbeat, music, )! Oh I see a twist. You see a twist we're twisting. ( bright upbeat, music, ) Where's, my lone ranger. You have to have a lone ranger., It's okay, to be a lone ranger'cause, you're necessary.. So my lone ranger is here we twist her around to lock in the situation. We go up. I'M gon na twist her up under all the other locs that I have there. And we have a hair style.. This is a great hairstyle to do when your hair is still drying. Like you, don't really have time to wait. You got ta go., You didn't wash it at night, you wash it in the day like me.. Well now I can dry and go and be cute.. I could toss a hat on top, but there is a really important part that I didn't show you guys. It has to happen. Give me one second to give you the black girl's, most important hair tool, ever. (, beeps, ) Okay., So see we twist it this side. We twist this this side.. This is the way the back looks.. Now, the most important part is the finish.. This I got from my loctician is like a comb on one end and then on the other end, it's like bristles., So I take this and you see all this excess just hair, just hanging out here.. Well, these are our friends.. It'S called baby hair., We like baby hairs., So you take your little brush and you go ahead and you just pull her on through. You use your finger to help guide your hair, where you might want it to go.. Oh, do you see that baby hair in place., Okay, let's get another piece., Some more baby hair? You pull her through, get a nice little curl and tuck her back up. And she's in there.. Now I'm a sideburn kinda girl. So, yes, we have the pull down. Here. And that's where the little bristle part comes in because I'm a black woman., So sometimes a lot of times we have kinks, which means we need to get them through.. So we take the little comb. All right. You ( indistinct, ) me through.. Now I take my bristle side and I make a curl on her and boom there. She is., Okay, let's give the same kind of love to this slide. Your finger and your brush are so important. They have to go together so your swoop, and you hold.. You see, do you see that And one fell swoop she's just boom back there., Let's get another one. ( bright, upbeat, music, )! I'M gon na talk to you about my hair journey because you don't just wake up in the morning and just voila have this plethora of hair knowledge.? No, it's trial. It'S error. It'S research. And I must say my mom's texture of hair is completely different than mine. And I'm the only girl, so my mom had no clue to what she was doing with my hair ever.. So there was a neighbor who lived on my block.. Her name was Danika, thank God for her'cause. She braided my hair, every two weeks., My mom, didn't know what to do with my hair. My hair is very fuzzy and fuzzy and you could put in a ponytail and it shoots back out., It's like me. It does what it wants to do, not what you tell it to.. So I let my hair free.. I don't try to tell it what to do or make a big deal out of it. If it wants to curl this way. Curl this way it is. - And I think that's one of the most important things that we really want to learn and be educated about when it comes to hair is there is no perfect hair, except for yours., And no hair is identical., So don't try to achieve Anyone else's greatness but find yours, and the way you find yours is by going on your journey. Use. Different products. Try different things.! That'S what I love about my culture, because, let me tell you my girlfriend's will come over with a red bob one day twist, another day straight long, hair, the next. Whatever it is, you wan na do do it.. I just wan na promote positive images when it comes to your hair and your crown.. Your hair is your glory.. It is your crown., It is you. And if you like it, then baby. I love it., (, bright, upbeat, music, ),

Ashreale Landin: I'm a cosmetologist and there is no way that her hair grew and locd that fast. She definitely added extensions. Her hair texture is very soft so it takes a long time to actually lock ..Not sure why she lied.

IagainstI: Whoever allowed her to do this segment should be fired. It is highly offensive to anyone with natural hair to watch someone with OBVIOUSLY fake hair insist that it is natural. It isn't that serious to lie about it. Using 4 different shampoos in one washing is absolute murder on natural hair, which is probably why she can do it because she is taking care of fake hair. It's just disappointing to see.

D: I would like to see Lisa bonet do a video on her beautiful locs

Inayah Baaqee, MA: We wanna see her daughter Marley’s hair routine! She has the real deal locs.

Alexis: So I guess Chloe and Halle were busy this day?? Cause they would've been a better example for this. Their locs are real unlike Eva's.

Dimonds Davidson: Eva, your Locs aren’t authentic or natural and nothing is wrong with that. Just don’t lie about it and expect your fellow loc sisters and brothers to support you in the process. I cannot …

Suzanne Budlong: People don’t like being lied to. 1. There is no product that is going to take your hair from a pixie cut to Bob length that quickly. 2. Those are loc extensions. There is nothing wrong with that. Just be honest about it.

P Lee: This is the most complicated loc routine I have ever seen.

Curl Maverick: With this routine, ain't no way all them locs came from the roots!!! *Build up enters the chat*

Lauren Rosetta: these are wrap locs, a form of loc extensions...interesting. I agree with getting someone with natural locs or even traditional loc extensions to fully showcase the beauty of locs. As someone who has started their loc journey with loc extensions, you will definitely be raffling a lot of feathers having someone with wrap locs of all types of locs being a rep for the diaspora. Overall it is nice to see more of mainstream embracing locs

Vuyokazi Mthethwa: The fact that she goes crazy with conditioner says a lot about her fake locs

precious kristlle: Why not use Halle x Chloe to do a segment on locs. Eva is cute.

Lily Raimey: As someone who’s had locs and knows how they work, this lady is full of it. What’s the point of lying about how she achieved her locs?

HaiDera Hollins: I'm glad I read the comments because I knew she was lying about them being all her hair! Don't front when the rest of us loc'd folks got it out the mud! And all that on your hair definitely could cause buildup! A simple shampoo, rosewater and go is fine.

Cynthia O: The way she got on here and said that was her hair, then not too long ago her stylist posted a video of the extension removal is killing me

Naima: Not the colorist talking bout “your hair is your crown”. We didn’t forget you calling Porsha & em “nappy headed”. Oh that Blaque comment towards Shamea. Yeah you and your faux locs can go

Latimore Shenii333: I swear Eva and Terrance Howard could go for fraternal twins♥️

Tracey M Smith: What’s worse about this is the claim that the shampoo made her hair grow from 2 inches to a bob. Come on

Nadine Rich: She literally looks amazing with every hairstyle. Have loved her since ANTM!

Maya G: My mothers has had locs since I was little. I’ve never seen someone with faux locs wash their hair with four shampoos. Locs are supposed to be low maintenance. You don’t need all these products for locs. This isn’t a good loc routine at all. People that want to start locs I eager you to look for advice somewhere else. This is too much work for something so simple .

neka neek: I really don’t get why she’s lying. Locs don’t even lock that quickly sometimes, let alone grow that quickly. And based on her hair type, it would prob take a good two years to lock completely. ‍♀️

Shades of Sage: I love that she got locs to be a representative for her daughter with locs also ! I just started my locs this week and my daughter has been asking me for a year! She’s only 4, so I’m just not sure yet, but I think they’re BEAUTIFUL❤️!

Keisha James: So y'all thought we would not notice the frauding and just eat this up ay? Texturism and colourism at its finest.

M: Black hair is amazing. The versatility! The simple artistry!

RoseWay Imports: she know DAMN WELL that’s not all her hair. it literally looks like synthetic. napstar are the queens of adding loc extensions

Cierra: I instantly Locd my natural hair in 2 days with a crochet needle it didn’t take me years lol

Malisha Ragin: Loved this now we need her skincare routine ASAP! ❤️

Shawnie C.: Wow these are the fastest growing locs i have ever seen you went from a damn pixie to shoulder length locs lord. This girl is always lying.

Keyshae: I love Nappstar! They did my box braids back in 2019 and still the best my hair has ever looked!

Makeda Gayle: Everyone's loc routine is different but this process made me cringe. To wash once a week with 5 different products... Less is definitely more for a loc care routine to prevent build up!

F M: SEVEN products!?! That’s waaaaaaayyy too many. And she washes it weekly?!?! Locs don’t need that much maintenance. Can’t do that with real locs. Next time, just say this is a sponsored video.

Carter J: I like how she’s talking about her edges as if they’d EVER be a problem like girl.

80s Baeby: Eva love, your locs are unique and beautiful, but,ALL natural dread heads that have put in the blood sweat, tears and years take it personal when people get the extensions and claim its ALL theirs,it's like a slap in the face!

Princess: She looks gorgeous! ❤❤

Jac Mac02: Love the style I’ll definitely give it a try… thanks Eva

marjorie tillman: Eva can wear her hair any kind of way, and still look beautiful!!

Hottest Goddess: Edit: she took the ends off. Those locs are not organic...not up for debate. The roots are natural. Anywho I love her locs.

angelique Dickerson: Her personality is everything

nlaguins: She's taken the extensions out since this and is officially loc'd. I hope there's a "redo" of this segment

Jackie Johnson: I absolutely love Eva. Just started my loc journey February 2021.

Courtney Martin: I love her personality ✨✨

Marie Charles: When she said Kinks, I almost dropped my phone. Girl, go sit down!

Flowers: It's not my concern one way or another whether that is all of your hair or not. It's just beautiful and if I could get my hair to look like that I would do it in a N.Y. minute! Thank you for sharing Eva. I appreciate it, and you!

Jasmine Jai: Can we acknowledge the fact that she legit LIED about having instant locs ?! Lol girl your hair did not grow that fast. Now she’s on Instagram with her real locs that are SHORT like why lie EVA. Its okay to have instant locs.

Partime Sunflower: Why did we need to see a loc care tutorial about FAKE locs. None of those products will actually do anything since she’s wearing extensions. This was pointless. She wasted all of those products lol

Erykah Jones: I love your locs Eva. . .they compliment you well ❤

J Duncan: Thank you for this video!! Your locs are gorgeous!!!

Ej: The fact that those are extensions does she think we’re blind

Neyce P: We want to see Halle & Chloe too!!!

Sydney Jones: Her hair is definitely cute but it’s hard to know how much it’s actually grown since she does have loc extensions. In her defense loc extensions can be permanent and not temporary like faux locs lol

Mayla V: Eva thinks we’re stupid..,Your loc EXTENSIONS are cute girl smh lol

Roxanne Stapleton-Whyms: I liked this video a lot! Thanks Eva. Locs look great on you! Keep it up!

M S: Eva. You really jackin that those are all natural locs? lol baby those are permanent lox extensions. Cute. But you ain’t get it out the mud like the rest of us

Michiah Naylor: This is stressful to watch... idk if I’m going to be able to finish. Super annoying. Keeping reiterating “being a black girl”, “you know us black girls.” I follow her on Instagram these are not homegrown. Her hair wouldn’t have loc’d that fast or at all with this kind of routine if they were natural. Lastly all these damn products... extremely unnecessary. She’s still learning.

Baruch BMI: Loved this, thank you Eva!!

Shenique Brevil: Love her energy. Thanks for this

Jude Thaddeus: I’m on my 3* loc journey now, turned 38 (13/6/21) and got locs for my birthday… I had locs thé 1* time from about 2007-2015, i miss them. I love being a natural hair man

DAESHON21: Her locs are beautiful but I can’t sit and watch someone lie to me But she is gorgeous…

Porsche Dudley: I absolutely LOVE this tutorial... feeling inspired!!!

Emily DelBuono: She’s absolutely gorgeous

Paula Gary: Your loc routine is off and that’s not all yours Eva. That’s all you do is lie. How you grew all of that in 6 months and you coming to a year of having it and it’s still the same length ‍♀️ you even said it on your Instagram that they permanently locs. You need more education on being loc’d. But you look good girl

Yesy Yvette: I'm sitting here rolling in my living room on the fake locs that grew in six months. I'm simply dead. It's not her real hair.

J Loveley: I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MARLEY’S HAIR.

Tiara Anderson: Love her energy and of course her locs

HUH ASSSOCIATES: I have never seen a hairstyle I didn't like on you. You rock Everything sis

Smooches_ Darling: I love this Eva very well said on the knowledge and embracing the natural you in every form I’m on my journey now and I will be starting a loc journey soon. Thank u for the video and the products and tips

Suzie Buffon: Baby if you like then I love it…Eva has always been that woman that looks great with any hairstyle ✊✨❤️

YuNeka Vondetta: Luv this! Luv her whole vibe

Colette Reed: This is so very helpful !!! Thank you for sharing!!!

Stasha Blue: The fact that she lied when she watched her daughters natural journey of locking is so disrespectful. I've been locked for 3 years and my hair started at a pixiecut length as well. The length she is claiming comes from this shampoo is impossible. My mother has fine hair also and she's tried locking 3 times but they won't hold.

The Real n Real Estate: In my Kandi voice. "The lies the lies THE LIES".

Frankie M: Wow….Eva really does lie like they said she does on RHOA

S Hayden: Cute, simple style

NaturallyPaige_: I’d rather Eva give us her updated skin routine

Introverted Triangle: “iM a BlAcK wOmAn AnD i HaVe KiNkS” **easily runs comb through hair**

Chanel#5: Eva why you lying!!!! That is not all your hair sis! You can fool Harper Bazar but ya can’t fool me If you know you know

J Loveley: Great tutorial

Celestial Extraterrestrial: Well, at least she promoted her homegirl's product. Lol.

mara banana: her energy, glowing appearance, earthy look is really giving ♥️

Sandy Grease: Thank you for the presentation Eva!

Solar Sky: I have always loved Eva's style but not her personality. She said that's all her hair but that's not true. Maybe four inches but the rest is extensions using the wrap method. If she had it done by crochet method she would have got away with it. She should have kept her mouth shut about that's all her hair

Denise Steward: Her locs r beautiful glad she chose to have locs like her daughter. But girl...don't lie those r loc extensions and it's okay we still appreciate u choosing a hairstyle that is natural n low maintenance and defines beauty. But keep it real. Edit: looking at her ends that might be all her hair n all she did was wrap it with color extensions. But still...she shld of said that. Anyways her hair is beautiful

Kelly Smith: she is pure light! and looks beautiful

Michelle Singleton: Looks beautiful. 20 years loc in cutting mines this week.

Callme__ Kuddy: Eva the Diva!!!!!!

TyKara Ann: Glad to see locs represented on a somewhat "mainstream" channel.

Anaisha C.: She really got on here and lied like we don’t know what fake hair looks like .

Chanel Lewis: She is beautiful . I love her hair

Lillian Lynn: Nice video. I think you have learn your hair and know what works for you. Everyone’s hair is different. Use what works for you. For me it’s a shampoo that contains Tea tree oil, conditioner, and coconut oil for moisture and retwisting.

k 1: “i wanna make sure my hair doesn’t get dried out” *uses 3 different shampoos*

Ms. Payton: Eva have always been beautiful to me! My oldest daughters middle name is Marcille because of her

Sonya Thompson: I love your energy Eva❤

QueendomCome: Young MA actually has a loc how-to on this channel too. I don't agree with her methods, but at least they're real

R. S. B: You can watch her remove these loc extensions on IG @nappstar_nyc (Nappstar has a shop in NYC and ATL) I think she should have used this video to talk openly about her loc extension experience. She could have encouraged us to follow her into the next season of her journey as she removes her extensions. Just a thought :)

ajones21606: Not a big Eva fan but she is undeniably naturally STUNNING

franklyearnest: You make me want locs!

KiraRichie: Everyone’s hair routine/ journey is different but I appreciate the exposure because so many people are ignorant to locs.

KyKy Faison: Awwe I really enjoyed this video! Eva is naturally beautiful! Thanks for sharing those products

Crystle Sky Channel: Stunning and loving her pure vibes ✨✨✨✨

Krysta Ann: My hair looks like Lisa Bonet’s (I had to instant loc my hair) but I love your hair Eva…. & your mindset is beautiful im definitely following for styles bc were the same length almost
