Folks, if you just saw what I saw, you know exactly what that is: that's what we call a wait line in the professional hairstyling community and there's lots of people out there that are creating these DIY tutorials in their bathrooms. Attempting to show how to cut your hair on your own, which is a nightmare and most of times, if you try it you're, going to end up seeing those lines on the hair. So you know, if you want to keep doing those, that's great. I suggest to go into a barber shop or a professional get it done if you can pull it off good for you, but if you're professional and you are taking this seriously and you want to know how to get rid of those weight lines. Well, I'm going to show you how so what's going to happen is usually going to see something like this, especially if you're doing it yourself or if you're, working on a client. You see this and you freak out. Well, here's a couple of ways to help you not freak out, so this was done with a number one guard. Now you have this horrible step in through here and what are you gon na do to get rid of it now? Typically, some Clippers will come with plastic attachments and it can go from. You know one one and a half. That'S fine slap the attachment on and what you want to do is simply go section by section and just blend out that line you're actually creating lines for the next one, but you're getting rid of it or you can use a professional clipper like this. This is a nostril clipper and what you can do is simply work your way up this way and start to blend out the line by going guard by guard. So here's a one a this is a one and a half guard. This is a number two guard. This is a three and a half guard, and here is a three and three-quarter guard. So, as you can see, this looks much better, but there's still a difference between here and here, there's still a line and you need to get rid of it now. A lot of people end up stopping here and thinking they here gets done and that's when you go out in public and you really really can see it. So what you need to do is you need to use a comb and then use a technique called scissor over comb. Where right here is where you'll see the hair that you previously cut and then above it you'll see here that's longer and now that is where you come in with a scissor and you simply lift the comb at like this, and then you blend the two sections In together - and that is what creates that softer blend and then really really makes a difference and helps get rid of those weight lines into here now, as far as the technique itself goes, how you do it is I'm basically using just my thumb like this. Okay, see I'm using my thumb to use this blade, and that is what I'm going to do working upwards this way, so I'm using my thumb and I'm following up the head - shape like this now, if you're attempting to do this yourself, I wish you the best Of luck, but one thing you can do is you can do scissor over comb and then you can point cut into it, which is going to be much better than cutting straight across. If you don't know what you're doing by point, cutting it really softens up the edge and gives you a pretty natural looking blend, this also works well, even in the salon, if you're, professional or not, but there's one last solution to getting rid of these wait lines Which I want to share last but not least, we have this, which is a thinning shear. As you can see, it's got the teeth here and I always utilize this to soften up the edge, even after blending in using scissor over comb. So this is scissor over comb, but it's with a thinning shear and what that's doing is it's really really softening up that line, because it's actually thinning out the hair and making it really really blend in much better than just with the regular standard shear. So I always suggest doing this. The same exact technique the same following the head shape, but you're just using a different tool. Well, thank you so much for watching guys. I really hope this tutorial helped you good luck on attempting to cut your hair yourself. If you want to or if you need to bring this into a salon because the people you go to just don't know what the hell they're doing, then you can also show them this video. So I hope this was a big help. Thank you. So much for watching guys I'll see you next time for more tutorials with a salon bye,

Kevin Winfree: I just wanted to say that your videos are very helpful. I am currently a master barber student about to graduate and feel like there is still a lot to learn, and just wanted to thank you for all your videos!

Amanda Elks: It really helped. Clear and concise instruction, thank you x

Ruel: Thanks for sharing your tips! I've doing this in my haircuts and it does make a difference-- especially in straight hair.

Ricky Tanwar: Dude I’m so glad I came across this video. I’ve literally been struggling with this same exact thing. I’m going to throw this in my system tomorrow at the shop. Hoping it works!

Makeupbay88: These are the videos I love! I recently changed salons and where I am now I do 90% male. And I have to do it in a short amount of time. I had a week of barbering in hair school back in 2008. I get discouraged. My clipped cuts are ok but I need help on fades. Could you do more like this , talking and saying which number and what motion your doing?

Greek610: Great tutorial video. I do my own haircut on occasion and just use a longer attachment like a 5 or 6 on the sides and back and then use the thinning shears to blend the weight line as best as possible using two mirrors in the bathroom. Hey, it's free, so, you can't expect perfection! I do get compliments though...takes practice.

Bzl: This video was so helpful! I have a lot pf trouble with weight lines in mens haircuts especially on the sides and with the really short guards like the 1 and 2. I'll definitely try the scissor over comb technique.

Tom McGraw: Thank you for showing several different ways to fix a problem. I especially like the texturizing shears/over comb. Very cool.

P.R. R.: Awesome video! I've been a barber for many years and it's true that you learn something new and EASIER everyday!

Paoline Paoline: I love the way you teach ! Also you do a great work. Thank you for taking your time on teaching other people your work. One little question which clipper are you using?‍♀️‍♀️

Taurus Tarot: I’m a very new stylist and men’s cuts are a huge source of anxiety for me, thank u for these videos

Daisy Guerrero: this helped so much! I just graduated cosmetology school and have been struggling with blending my smaller guards. thank you!

Casey Harris: It's sad but I paid 14 grand for a Cosmetology license that in reality, only prepared me for State Board. Of course I didn't realize that until I went to work in a Salon. As far as Clipper Cuts, that was something I struggled with for years and still do sometimes depending on the head shape/hairlines of certain Clients. Depressing because I just learned more from this video than the 11 months I had in Hair school all those years ago.

Dr. No: Thank you for helping me save my hair from an awful haircut a crappy barber gave me!

Kevin Dinh: Would like to see a video of removing the weigh line with clipper guard attachments :)

Colleen Ewanchyna: Well done!. I trained 25 years ago. Thinning shears is perfect to blend as is "point cutting". My Men's Haircut Model in PivotPoint Cosmetology School was my husband (of 31 years this year), who has a perfect head of hair and square jaw. In fact, before I got my license he modelled for Men's Cut Competitions, and his two different stylists won a First and a Third Place. : )

Rags Martel: Thanks for the helpful video! Is the length on the top all the same, or does it get longer in places?

Soojung Lee: Thank you! The solution im looking for

sef: Thank you so much , for the tutorial. Yes, it was a big help

Sandooch: Awesome tutorial!  Thanks so much!!

Brooke Babin: Thank you so much for this video. I cut my husbands hair and he's been wanting me to blend his weight lines better.

Quinnlyn Thompson: Thank you. I just tried cutting my (toddler) son’s hair for my grandma’s funeral service and it looks like I used a bowl. This helped when I couldn’t make it to a salon.

Jess N.: You're a life saver. I sort of screwed up my boyfriend's hair, (though I did a better job than he usually does, and he thought it was adequate) because he has to cut his hair every two weeks into a high and tight for the Air Force, and there's no way we can afford to go to a barber every time. So thank you, it will go a lot better next time.

Jamjor: Thank you!! Helped my fiance with cutting my hair so much!

Star Seed Light Worker: When using blending sheers, do not cut close to the head! I was impatient and created a deep cut into my hair in the back

Mike Bakee: Clear instruction. So many tutorials don't explain what blade size they're using. Others seem to think that speaking very loudly will help us to understand better. Clear calm explanation of every step works for me every time. thanks:)

Chris Carlisle: I cut my own hair because it's more economical, and i tried a fade, and it came it decent but I have a slight weight line between my 1 - 2 taper. Thank you for the tips.

Luz Vibes: I have trouble with that a looooooot! Although I have seen improvement lately sometimes I do clipper over comb love the video

Taylor C: Thanks for the blending help. I have three boys hair I'm cutting during the quarantine lol and need help blending!

Adam Macias 🤲: Thanks for the tip, I did this by myself no problem.

MagashiSaizen: Hair cuts are getting more expensive every year, sometimes you just have to take matters into your own hands and hope for the best. LOL

Angela Fernandez: Hola!! Me encanta como trabajas! te sigo en todos tus Videos, Saludos y Muchas Gracias por enseñarme!

Evelin Caprirolo Maury: thanks to you. your tutorials are always helpful. I also loved the intro.

Jen Ashworth: This was really useful, thanks!

COFFEE GRINDS: Thank you got the wife mad at me for attempting my boys hair cut. He bugs out at the barber , 2 year old, trying to warm him up, but no clue what to do.

Jair Luiz: Scissors over the comb hardly ever work on yourself. You can get by with clipper cutting and and cutting the top with layer cutting. But, in any event, cutting your own hair is a skill that may take years to master. If you get the hang of it, your hair will look presentable regardless whether you're a professional or not.

Barber John: Hey man this video has me smiling the whole time. looks great!

Audie Paudie: Thank you sir! It’s amazing how cosmetology school could not show me this .

Arman Rouge: This is one of my favourite video. I really do have a problem with blend it. I keep looking at your video every night before sleeping so I can remember for moring

Style67: I’ve really been struggling get rid of the line. Is the idea to cut the hair shorter above the line or should you be cutting exactly on the line?

Chris Johnson: Scissor over comb is the hardest thing for me to do when I blend my own hair. I cut my own hair for two reasons most barbers in my area do not know how to cut female hair. Secondly a simple taper is not worth $25 its not in my budget.

AliceDiableaux: Ah, now I know how to call the disaster that happened when I tried to give myself an undercut. Apart from the fact that it's completely uneven and let's not talk about the back. Better leave it to the pros, not in the least because they can actually see what they're doing.

NATALIE ROBERTS: Thank you so much for sharing your technique!!

Michael G: I have trouble especially with the side the top/crown area combs over too, my son has about maybe 2 inches of hair on when its longer he wants, but wants a #1 on the back and sides..and it never really fades just short into to hair

la mama de Mandy: Your amazing simple but very helpful thanks a lot!!!!!

Rob Brown: Thank you for the tip on using a comb and thinning scissors will do that next time and hope for an even better result.

Florida_grl_43 Beach: Thanks for showing us how to get rid of that weight line.  I am trying to conquer the scissor over comb method.  I am a 2 year cosmetologist and when you are taught in school to use the guards and then shown in the real world scissor or clipper over comb...one would be like, huh? I am still learning and getting more and more comfortable doing the method you have shown in this video.  Thanks Steve!

Wicked Waiata: 0:08 The look on my face everytime another barber cuts my clients hair lol

Adrienne G: I used the same technique just yesterday on a client

꧁ Orlando Cruz ꧂: OMG! You were talking about me. I be cutting my own hair and have those hard lines. I have the concept of blending but have realized with this video that blending my own hair will be impossible. I don’t want to do a “1” all over anymore. I like a “5” on top with a faded sides. You just made me feel hopeless. I can’t afford a hair cut once a month.

Good Zil Hunting: I love your videos for hair cutting techniques.. Maybe I am going to be a salon guy one day in the future xD

Laura E: Great tutorial as always :) Is there any where in the uk i can find the Oster clipper like the one your using.

Morai모라이 Ordell: That happen had a lot to me in beauty school lol thanks. Your video is great.!!

John Repecki: Good tips on removing a weight line. Maybe use live models though as dummy heads just don't have the same hair growth and the finished product always looks better. Oh yeah, the beard looks very distinguished. Thanks for posting.

Manny Dea: Your beard is majestic. Please never remove it. Other than that, great video

Jamie Upton: Im broke and last time i cut my hair, i faded it good but tried to blend it into long hair on top and because i could not see i had it come out bad i thought but everyone else said it was good, i did not trust them so i went and got it done lol wish i had money to spend $40 to $50 a month in haircuts at least now a days because of covid its very high

John Brown: awesome man, keep that great work!!!

Self-Improvement: Very helpful!!

Osaid Al-Shawabkeh: Thank you, it's really help.. especially knowing what second scissor used for.

Phillipp NY: Great video! Just what I need now. Can you please do a video about discussing the different hair styles for men? I grew out my undercut and I feel that I should look for a new style. But I don't know what to look up.

MrFookface: Brilliant! Thank you sir!

Angela Fernandez: Yo no hablo Ingles pero te entiendo lo que me explicas Mil Gracias! me ayudas mucho! Dios te Bendiga Siempre,Saludos!!

kybajam: Can you make a tutorial on how to get this cut? I really like it!

Anthony and isai: I have learn so much from your videos. Thank you so much

Malik: The barber gave me THIS EXACT HAIRCUT!!!! I wouldn’t even do this to myself!!!!

Nia M: My cosmetology kind of sucked at teaching me clipper cuts. I’m confused on how high or low I should go on a men’s hair cut. Should the shaved part stop at the temple then you blend?

Lee-Anne Govender: Finally an easy way to get rid of the line

wiw n: Could you make a tutorial on how to cut the top and front when they grow out too long? Everyone show how to cut the back and sides but no video for the front and top (not crew cut). Thanks for the very ggo instruction for using the scissor.

Johny Flynn: best explained tutorial thank you good sir

AlbaWind MacTavish-Blair: Can you tell me how to get rid of clipper lines in a one guard buzz cut. Our stylist left my hubby's hair with a railroad track look today and I want to fix it myself. Thanks!

F. S.: Thank you very much, Stephen Marinaro, your videos help us a lot.

A Bertinasco: I have so much trouble blending sides to top and could use some good advice if you have anymore

SN - Old channel: Nice tutorial! :)

Climatee: So clipper over comb or sissors over comb? Do they affect the hair different?

M. Truk: more troubleshooting mens cut vids please!!!!!!!!

Mauricio Haenke: Dear Stephen, Can u do a curly hair tutorial for men with no heat pleaseeeeeeeeeeee.

Bradley Gerdes: quickest most efficient barber method would be fading up to 1 1/2, or 2 (plastic guard or metal blade) and clipper over comb for blending. if you use thinning shears where the hair isn't properly blended, some hairs may start to pop out prematurely when the hair grows out

andreas johansson: Wow i Love the intro, and all of your work, it's very professionally made and simply Amazing! By the way do you think it would be hard to achieve the "Sam Smith haircut" ? i would Love to see you doing your version of it!

Mike's Email Account: I leave it up to the professionals like you.

Mervyn Kirkpatrick: Another brilliant vid! Keep it up!

Haveabanana Productions: I just got my hair cut by proffesionals and i still got a weight line

Flyboyant: great tutorial.

ChoijE: Hey salonguyim just wondering what number guard I should use to see a good fade on blonde hair

Wo Aini: very helpful tips, pun intended

TimelordUK: Hello again salon guy. Please teach me how to blend a high zero into the top. I'm a qualified barber working in my own shop for nearly TWO years and I STILL can't do it

STYA: Where do I get your set ? i mean the trimmer etc. Hope you answer ! Thanks

AB: I have a question what to do when I ruin my sides with a comp I end up having spots help should I fix it with clippers

transvenom1: Can you make haircut tutorials with clippers that have levers?

Alkhriz: Nobody in my area knows wtf they’re doing. Have tried so many places and they always butcher the hell out of my hair. Even the “luxury” barber dude who charges 60 bucks for a full hour haircut with “advice.” Yeah that shit was ass. So if you’re like me you’re better off learning how to do your own and take your time than going somewhere and having them rush you in and out in under 15 minutes to get a quick tip.

George Waller: See I have that line right now but when you faded it it goes up way too high for what I would like. How can I blend just the line so it mainly stays at the same height. Mine is a bit lower than the line at the start of your video. And or how do I ask for a haircut like that? I basically just want a fancy bowl cut haha plz help

Martha Laguna: just graduate friom cosmetology and need to practice more this love the way you explained !!!!!! your should became an educator

alloneword154: I love how the top was allready perfectly cut lol.

Hey.aan: OMG that beard. It looked EPIC!!!

Redwine: Hey Stephen do you know how to remove dandruff and stop hairloss? P.s love your tutorials look who I am talking to.

Julia MacMillan: I'm about to attempt another covid cut on my 9yo. The last one wasn't awful, but it wasn't great. When the dummy head first came on screen he said "I want it just like that." Looks like the pressure is off!

Jessica Selland: Amazing thanks a lot

Username Taken: Funny when you said, as you can see it looks much better, I thought, still looks shite at the exact same time just looks like you’ve moved the line further up

misiek223: thank you! you are great! :)

Mynor J: Lol my barber used to leave my hair the way it was before you started using the scissor

Mevlan Bakiji: I love your videos!
