Hey everyone welcome back to the channel. Thank you so much for being here. If you are new hit, the subscribe button, give the video a thumbs up and don't forget to comment down below what you think of this technique. So today, i'm going to be showing you how to achieve this haircut in only three cups: hey everyone. Welcome back to the channel today, i'm gon na be bringing you the three cut shag. So this is a mini series. I'M going to be doing in being able to explain how elevation and over direction works for hairdressers, but also inspire clients to try out something different in the salon by taking some inspiration to their hairdresser. So my last ponytail haircut, the wolf cut, has gone a little bit crazy with people doing it themselves. The videos weren't intended for this, but if you do fair play, but i always advise people to come to the salon today, i'm going to be showing you the ever so popular shag haircut but cut in only three sections. So yes, i'm gon na be using the ponytails again, but i'm literally gon na be using that to explain how we can create these looks a little bit differently, a little bit more simpler. So, let's get into it so we're going to be looking at is a top ponytail through here and then two pigtails on the side and what it is is the sectioning pattern is a let's get it in is a section from the crown to the corners of The eyebrows that was to come through and carry on like that, come down and come down, and then we just put that up. So it's like a a thin shape on top a triangle like that, and then we put it up into a ponytail on the side which is taking a section down the back, and then we have brought the ponytails on the side, the pigtails. If we were sectioning into a hot cross, bun section so through the middle to the back and then from the high point down to the back of the ear, is where you'll see these pigtails sit. So what you're getting is you'll be getting over direction from the front back to this point, you'll be going over direction from the back to that point. So we're going to maintain length through the back we're going to maintain a bit of length through here, but we're going to look more internally at creating the the layering and then what it's going to do. It'S going to give a real nice sort of shaggy texture around the face with this we're going to pull it up to the ceiling and because we've got the other direction from the front hairline back a bit about what two inches and then we've got from the Crown about two and a half three inches over directing forward into the ponytail and then we're going to elevate because elevation creates softness and then we're going to cut that off. Take out the hair tape - and this is all just end up like a really textured shag. Haircut reason: i'm doing this, i put something in the community tab, a little pole which was pixie, cut, long layers, shag, something else and the shag come out top. So that's why i'm bringing you this today. So let's get into cutting the first section, which is going to be the top section, and we want to look where we want it to sort of sit, but remember we've over directing about two inches and by about two and a half three inches on the back. So we know we're going to be maintaining at least the forehead through that that over direction into the ponytail, so we can go quite short with this. If we're looking at creating a really textured shaggy haircut, so i'm going to be cutting. This will be taking about two inches from the top of the uh pony right about there that's around about two inches and then all we're going to do is get a good shot of it. We'Re then just going to point cut that top off. So again, let's just really texturize that you see all that hair coming off. It'S got loads of texture in there. That'S our first section. Next are the pigtails. So if you want to create a really quite intense shag, we're gon na again take it quite short. Point cut: pull that off again, this deep point cut to create loads of texture and just really softened off move around to this got side. So it's about half a cone from there. So half a cone there so we're just measuring half a cone again, which is around about there and just point cutting that off deep point cut. Now we have a so let's just talk about it. First, let's break it down. So what we're looking at is we're. Looking at over direction we're looking at elevation and if we were to do this in salon, i wouldn't be doing in a ponytail, but what i would use is i would use a reference point as a guide, so i'd be using the hot cross bun section, and I would take a point from there and i'd be pulling it out, and then these would be over directed to that point straight out and then the same with the back. I will take a section over direct to here over direct over direct and we're getting this sort of a similar effect see the shaft taking place already now. Pull this tape out and this hair tape only sticks to itself doesn't stick my hair section. So there we have it, that is a shag haircut cut in three cuts, that is it three ponytails three cuts and you've created this this shape. So let's just explain the shape a little bit more. So, as opposed to one of my last videos, the wolf cup, we had a shorter sort of fringe area. It'S because we have the ponytail further towards the forehead and cut shorter, so end up with more texture through there. What we wanted to create today was a bit more sort of shagginess around the face, so you can see here these pieces are shorter because the ponytails were brought closer. The the pigtails brought closer to the side of the head. So therefore, only a tiny bit of direction was was done through the front, which means you get a lot more softness through here. It was over directed more from the back. So that is why we've kept this perimeter nice and long, and then this fringe shag bangs. Whatever you want to call, it is longer because we had more over direction backwards to maintain that length of the front, and then it's given us a lot more texture and layering towards the back. So if we just spin it around, you can see there look how short these these layers are through here and that's because the ponytail was brought up here, meaning the hair didn't travel as far away from the from the cut, creating these shaggier shorter layers through there. So i've got all of that texture through there and connection you can see from these layers through here. They connect all the way through to the length just giving you that really cool shape just gon na spin it back around there. We go a shag in three sections:

Melissa Coleman: I literally studied this video over and over for 2 days before I did it! This technique is FReAKING genius!! Thank you so much for this! You saved me about $30.00 for a new haircut and your technique made my husband think that there was NO WAY I did this ! Love it! I recommend for anyone as long as you place the ponty tails in same location. Also be sure to cut it straight out on the sides and straight up on the top, it is fool proof! Thank you!!!!

Nadia Pedersen: I have naturally wavy hair (not completely curly but definately not straight), and there really is no chance to mess this up as long as you follow the tutorial with my type of hair. It looks SO cool and you don't even need to style it!

DiMa: I did this - it was sooo easy, and it turned out great! I left it a tad longer, and I love it!

Beth Warren: I've been doing the top pony since the 80s. Love this idea. Just cut off 6 in doing wolf cut the other day and it turned out great. I'll have to try this. Thank you.

Susan R: I have worn this type of shag / layer cut most of my life even when it wasnt " in style " i love it and will keep coming back for my go to cut thanks for showing another way to achieve the look !!

flamingribbons: your tutorials have been so great!! especially during this time many people still aren't able to go out to salons to get their hair cut, these have been awesome c: and so do-able for someone cutting their own hair!

VERONICA BENNETT: Even better than your wolf cut. The top of layer of my hair is always dead and lifeless. I just did this to my hair. I just did your wolf cut and then saw this and did this. Can’t really tell bc I barely cut off an inch. But I’m excited to continue this technique

Sam Bozsik: Just some notes for next vid: 1) don’t block camera with arm or back, set up several shots so you can edit them together 2) if you have a dark haired head, wear a white shirt so she doesn’t disappear in your black shirt 3) fix your audio My ADHD and OCD thanks you

ParanoicVoid: I feel like this is the only haircut that suits everyone, it looks so good!

SIERRAnBC: Tried this cut last night, it turned out great! Only cut off about half of what you did, thinking I wanted it longer - nah - the other half comes off tomorrow :) -- EDIT-- Word of advice, don't bring the side ponytails to the front to cut - hold them up & out like in the video! (Re: cutting more off/other half - my shoulder was sore so took the easy way out & now have two very blunt cut pieces on the sides, oops. Fixable, but atm, looks pretty stupid :P )

Julie Wittmuss: OMG...if you are on the fence about doing this....DO IT! It is super easy! Paul breaks it down to it's simplest form...and it work! I just went from drab to FAB in 5 minutes! Thanks Paul...keep up the great work!

Caroline Brown: I just did this and it came out FABULOUS !!!!

Alan Norval: Iv been doing hair for year's and I love your techniques any time saved in a cut and to still turn out a good cut is a win win for me thanks

24-Dieu Linh: really reccomend this hair cut guysss its super easy to do and the result is absolutely looking stunning !!!

W T Edwards: You have saved my life really. I am so allergic to hairspray just breathing in flakes triggers asthma. So no salon visits. My back is so screwed up standing too long is difficult. Used to take me an hour or more to cut my hair for sit down breaks. This is wonderful and it looks better too! ❤️

Pi1ipa1a: This turned out great on my shoulder length hair. I had a bit of a "step" but I went back and recut a bigger top section and it blended better. So quick as well. Thank you!!!

sgc1959: I wish my hair was long enough to have my hair cut like this. I love it and it seems so simple to do.

M n M: This worked really well for me, I wish I had tried this technique first. Even though my hair is so thin I look like a bug with three antenna.

artsy fartsy stuff: ABSOLUTE BEST DIY SHAG CUT EVERRR!!! Thank you soooo much for sharing.

Kim worthem: I watch this twice, went into the bathroom and did it myself, turned out great…

D Popper: Wow! You make it look so easy, but I will follow your advice and not attempt to cut my own hair!

my girl: Beautiful. This was really entertaining. I saw this with my own eyes and the wolf cut you did; I still can not believe my eyes!

Sheila More: Oh my goodness I got to try this I just need to get my daughter to see if I’m doing it right because I want the long shag look thanks for sharing

Marlene Sylvester: Thanks Paul...sure do appreciate your sharing of the instructions for cutting this shag cut.

kaoru Shimura: Waow stunning results for a haircut in just 3 steps, love it

Missy Be Kind: I've been asking for a shag haircut for years, & my hairdresser didn't know what I was talking about. I'll save myself $130.00 & now do it myself, with a mix of the wolf cut ✂️ !! First cut, on the top, great view of your arm..

Stephanie L: This is a game changer! Thank you, Paul!!!

Maxwell T: Will a longer version of this work? I have very long hair down to my lower back. It's also fine and pin straight (but extremely thick, so I need weight taken out!). Could shaggy layers work for my hair type?

Lisa Gaynor-Embiscuso: SHAZAAAM I LOVE THE SECTIONING! totally SHOWS the overdirecton making it visually easier to understand for anyone...

Tracy Hogness: I'm gonna give it a go ! You have the GREATEST videos out there , Thank You

Carla Montenegro: Thank you! I look amazing!

Veyra Diaz Luna: Just did the wolf-cut today. Will be doing this tomorrow

Diane Gargano: I love it , thats my cut right there. It never gos out of style.

Rosani Lebron: Well...I decided to do my own Shaggy. If it goes wrong, I'll wear a ponytail until it grows. Thanks for the video!

Nía Aytin: I love these techniques, yet I am hesitant to do it myself because I want more of a front layered look, and just one additional layer in the back that does not thin out the ends too much. Would there be a way to cut a shag that is less tapered by tying the ponytails different ways?

Ragini Chetty: Never could get anyone 2 cut my hair like DAT, love it

Maria Teresa Zarraga Flores: Beautiful!!

Joy Dunbar: Awesome, Love it.

Anne Stricker: Thank you! Very cool indeed!

Milly Tremblay: Can I connect the top and side layers or will it be too thin? I do have ridiculously thick curly hair.

Newhope 84: Thank you for this tutorial..

Melanie Smith: Wow! I'm definitely trying this on myself next time I get the nerve to cut my hair again. Love the results! If I try it, I'll update how it went. Update: it didn't work for me. I'm not saying it won't for anyone else or that I'm unhappy. I took a risk to try it, but it didn't work for my hair. I really liked the video, but my hair doesn't do that. I lived, and I learned. At least I tried.

Ameander Forrester: 'Shag in three sections' sounds really good, but maybe I've just been living alone in the woods for too long.

bellilly: this would be fun to do with a flowbee. there are few examples of how to get a flowbee to do anything interesting. ponytails could change that.

Anna Maria Cosimi: Grazie! Volevo chiedere se e' preferibile effettuare il taglio con capelli bagnati o asciutti?

Wife-LadyZoé Safonenkova: Wow! Great haircut!

taeshide: спасибо вам за ваши видео. они помогают мне самой стричься так как я хочу нежели идти к парикмахеру и гадать сделает ли он то что я просила или нет

Blue Sunday: Que genio!!!!!

Sharon La Tour: You could cut off the bottom, and it will still look great!

Ruth Adele West Cole: It would have shown the layers better using light colored hair. Hard to see with black hair.

Ivy Harris: Would have been great if you could of demonstrated how you sectioned the hair rather than having it pre done. Great result.....

IHAC SCR: Great cut!!! Thank you. I don’t want a mullet (wolf cut.)

Eva: what’s the difference between the shag and the wolf haircut?

Cladia Vital: Woooooow thank you to share this tips.... great

Scarlett Rose: Awesome. Thanks.

Victoria Tabrez: You the best thank you

Tammy Mcpherson: Genius!

Raven Vargas: Nice looks fabulous

IriaVintage: Does it work on curly hair?

Azalea Soriano: it works ♡

Licensed and insured: running to do it ❣️

Cimara Prado: Gente, alguém poderia traduzir a fala? Amei. Do inglês para o português?

Melinda Weasenforth: I can tell you how to cut a shag haircut with one cut Straight across your hair...bend over and brush your hair towards the floor then get it as even as you can and pick a place on your hair to start cutting, cut straight across and when you stand up and brush your hair it will fall into a shag or layers, be careful with where you cut at though so that the overall look isn't to short. But it works every time... think about it someone cutting your hair uses the same concept when they take a piece of your hair and pull it up to cut it... hug's Lynn Weasenforth ❤️

Suzanne Watts: Looks like you have your hair in bunches Paul . Loved the video. Xxx

skinny bear: Why are you using tape instead of hair ties (elastics)?

Nat: How should i cut the top section if i already have a fringe?

Google User: Dude your arm was in the way while you were cutting!

Bel Z: Someone help me out. I want to do this but I don't understand if I cut same length from all 3 ponytails. As in keep 1/2 a comb length from all 3.

Alondra Gascon: Me gusto mucho tu video. Pero luego terminando diste la espalda a la cámara, nose ve. Me encantó el corte super fácil. El resultado me gusta mucho. Sirve para personas con poco cabello.?

D C: Great edit when you put your back to the camera

Flossy Jones: The back of the hair on the bottom looks pretty straggly looking. It looks like you could clean it up somewhat. Keep trying these different techniques. For a bob do four sections use ponytail holders straight up. It will be a beautiful Bob.

allison guy: How do you determine the length on an actual client?

Tania Crosier: Love it

PurplePastelPrincess: What haircut is more layered... a shag or wolf cut?

Sally Nye: Awesome job I wish you could cut my hair

MsTipsycolada: Is this trend only work for the 20-30 age groups? Won't this cut make an older let's say 40yr old and up look dated?

petra vazanska: Can i do it on dry hair please?

Toni,s hair styles: Love it Paul thanks for sharing ❤️

Bekah;: Be careful because it can get very short. Own experience

The Life Of Hair: Nice one mate

Ariadne Cuellar: Bravisimo

Kattra Kee: Terrific !!!!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Perrie Brown: So I have very low density hair and shoulder length bob. I tried this and . Don't try it if you don't have much hair.

Dr Rose: Cuts top behind his arm, so we can't see it. Cuts first side with his black shirt as background, so there is no contrast, and again we can't see. WHAT THE CAMERA ACTUALLY SEES OUGHT TO BE THOUGHT OUT! He goes to a lot of trouble to do a video and then does one in which we are not permitted to see the first 2/3rds of the cutting.

Sheila More: I need to try this

Qamar Hanisah: Will it still work on a short and low density hair?

Claudia Symonenko: Hola me gustaría que tradujera en Español

HeSsA A: I have very thin hair..this style won't work on me..wolf cut was easier and looked very great on me

Orla Kemp: Ruined my hair, he's right guys don't try this at home

Shar Qureshi: Very Steven Tyler (Aerosmith). I love it!!

Kathy Mercer: Must be the new shag the original shag you dumped it upside down cut it off that was good and had shorter bangs this was in 60 70 somewhere and I'm old enough to know and I did hair for 38 years not sure I like it with the texturizing the other didn't have it I think it looked a little neater but I'm old

Dolores Cook: I have thick course hair will this work for me?

Urmel greif: How to Do with one side shorter than the other?? Got a sidecut... now i am sich of it

Sheila More: I always like the long layered haircut like a Fossett

Dee Roga Tory: I like this technique if you're going for this look but the hair in this style always seems to look damaged to me.

Catarina Lorenzi:

Rana Hurr: I wanna ask what should I do if I wanna cut t even more shorter???

Shepherd boy: The result looks like a "before" on a correction video. LOL

Magaly Rodriguez: Good job!!!

Anna Maria Cosimi: Grazie!
