Well, we're talking about face, shapes yeah, i'm going to tell you what haircuts are going to work the best for all the individual face shapes now before we get to that. My name is justin hickox. If you're new to my channel, i share hair tips, things. I'Ve learned over 25 years so if your hair is important to you, you're going to want to join all the other folks here and hit that subscribe button so that you can catch every tuesday when i bring out a brand new video. But today, like i said, let's dive into some hair tips about face, shapes here's how this is going to work, we're going to go through all the face shapes and at the very end, we have to understand that i realize not. Everybody fits into a specific face shape. Some people are a mixture of a couple or even few different face shapes, so i've got a plan for you, too, don't stress it at the end, i've got you covered, but oval face shapes with an oval face shape. You have a lot of options. You can do a ton, it's really gon na be up to you. You can play with texture, you can play with bangs. You can play with length. There isn't one specific length you have to worry about what i would say for you is pay very close attention to how much time you want to spend on it in the morning. If you don't want to spend a ton of time, then think about your style. More based on how much day-to-day maintenance is going to be required and then also think about your hair texture, if you have really thick full hair, maybe it's curly and it compounds on itself and it gets a bunch of volume. Well, ask yourself: where do you want volume? Where do you like to have volume and remove the volume from the other areas so start playing with things and really figure out what you want your hair to do and work with that? Okay, so the next face shape is gon na be all about round faces. I know i've actually done another video about that. So if you want another video make sure you uh look upstairs right up there, there's a video all about round face shapes, but when we're talking about round face shapes, we need to pay attention to how much fullness we're adding on the sides. So if we add too much fullness it'll have a tendency to make that face look more round. If that's not what you're going for, then you probably don't want to put anything right in at the chin. No strong bob shapes right to the chin. You also want to be aware of bangs right. Are you wearing something? That'S really closed off? If you have a tendency to wear really thick, especially a straight across bang, the probability is high that it's going to make your face look very closed and that again can draw more emphasis to width. What we want to focus on is more elongation. We want to elongate the face and one simple way we can do that is by elongating the face through the length. If we bring this length down a little bit, then we're going to have a little bit more of an elongation of the face shape. So that's one thing that we really want to pay attention to. We also want to pay attention to opening the face up a little bit more and creating more angles in it. One way that we can do that is to break up the front a little bit with some layering. If you're gon na have the length break the front up, have some softness get it back off your face or have some pieces that do come in your face? Just as long as nothing again is coming directly hard and strong into the chin, so paying attention to not closing your face off too much paying attention to not by not having a strong bang paying attention to having it long enough or creating more volume. In the top, that's going to help create more elongation and ultimately take your eye away from it, adding too much weight. Okay. So now, let's talk about a square face, shape so on a square face shape. Your focus is somewhat similar actually to a round face shape. In that you're not trying to add too much overall width, you really want to elongate the face again, but you're also wanting to make sure that you don't accentuate the already rather strong angles in your face. So softness is a big deal, but first off you want to start keeping that length either below the chin or making sure that you don't have too much volume again in the sides, so both of those things work. So if you're going to bring a length up closer to your chin, not right at the chin, i wouldn't recommend that, but closer to your chin, it's just very, very important that you pay attention to the amount of volume you're getting in the sides or that you're Getting enough volume on the top to offset the volume on the sides so that it doesn't have a tendency to make it look too wide. Now, when we're talking about angles, we just want to be sure that we don't do anything so strong that it ends up accentuating the angular. Look that you already have. We want to soften that just a little bit, so bangs are a great option now back up. If you already haven't seen my video about which bangs are best for which face shapes, make sure you go ahead and check that out right up here right now or at least after this video, because that's going to help you determine what bangs are going to make. The most sense, but bangs are a fantastic option for square faces, and it's definitely something that you should take a look at. So let's talk about the oblong face, shape now. First of all, oblong face ships. You want to be really paying attention to trying to actually not pull it out too much. You want to pay attention to actually adding a little bit of fullness. So what that means is you want to pay attention to having some length or some fullness in around the chin, actually a chin length. Bob works really well for that type of face shape as long as you're paying attention to not having anything too flat and too long or no layers in the front. Drawing that line straight down, you can do bangs. Bangs are great, because bangs can actually help to add more fullness to the cheeks, which is really what we're trying to do and having a little bit of bangs for softness can also help just give the overall shape a fun look. Now, let's talk about heart face shapes so with a heart face shape. We want to pay attention, ooh parkour that looks stupid. Anyway. We want to pay attention to adding a little bit more width around the cheeks. So a really ideal form for this would be adding some volume around that cheek area. Having a length that comes directly into the cheeks would be great into the chin is perfect. Having some layers that emphasize the cheeks is a great idea. All of those things work really well hi, hi kevin anyway, back to heart, face shapes. We want to also pay attention to not adding too much width around this bone right here, right so kind of around the temple bone, and we also want to make sure that we add a little bit of width to the forehead. So one way we can do that is bangs. Do work to kind of break this up a little bit again check out the bang video because it'll help you understand, which bangs will work best from you, but making sure that you have. Oh, my gosh dude. I know you need you need you're, so needy um, making sure that you have that you're, not adding too much width around your eyes and offsetting some of that width by adding width through your chin or your cheeks is a really solid move. If you've got a heart face, shape, adding wave to your hair is a great way of breaking that shape up and offsetting the areas that we want to offset so a wavy length into the chin would be great. Give that a shot. This guy is really really really on it right now. Isn'T he? Oh boy got ta love dogs anyway, so moving on to diamond face shapes okay, so now a diamond face shape, is kind of similar to a heart face, shape in that you're really focused on trying to create the illusion of more fullness down in through the cheeks. So again, this is a situation when volume around the cheeks or a length directly into the chin is going to work really really really well or having longer length can function really well too, especially on diamond face shapes you can get away with a lot more in Terms of lengths, but having a little bit of volume through there so having layers that face frame and coming to the chin, can also work or having even some wave through the sides that give a little bit more volume to there can work really well one thing That also works well with diamond face shapes, is simply tucking it behind your ear right, tucking behind one ear can open that up a little bit and draw a little bit more width through your cheek and through your jawline, but also create a little bit more of A softness in that again bangs work really well for diamond face shapes so definitely look into some bangs if you haven't played with that idea. Yet now what happens? If you actually have a mixture of face shapes right, you don't fit into just one specific mold. What do you do? That'S a great question, i'm glad you asked here's the way i prefer to tackle those situations. I like to choose what you like about your face shape. Is there anything about your face shape that you absolutely love that you really want to draw emphasis or focus on, or is there anything about your face, shape that maybe you don't love so much something that maybe you would like to take emphasis away from if one Of those things are true, or even if a combination of those things are true, then i like to work the shape around. What is going to take the emphasis off or add the emphasis to that thing. Maybe you feel like you've got really full cheeks and maybe for whatever reason that bothers you and it always has - and so you want to minimize the fullness in your cheeks. Well then again much like a round or a square face shape. We want to pay attention to not having too much fullness on the sides, because that will accentuate them. We want to elongate your face because that will take away the illusion of the fullness in the cheeks and make it look longer. We want to take focus and put it on the areas that you really like. Maybe you really love your cheekbones and that's like your favorite thing and you want to accentuate the snot out of them. That does not sound right, but you get my point and what i would do in that scenario is make sure that you have some of the volume and the sides laying in you create more volume up around this area in the temples, so that this line follows The lines of the cheekbone that's going to draw the eye up, and it's going to draw more emphasis and accentuate those cheek structure that cheek structure more. The point being is focus on what you like and what you don't like and then work the shape around that. But also one other thing that i would take into consideration if you have a face shape and really this goes for any of the face shapes no matter what shape you choose. First of all, always think about your hair. Texture always think about what you're trying to achieve in terms of daily day, maintenance always pay attention to how long this style or shape is going to take to make it function. For you many cases you might find yourself in a situation where to create the overall shape that you actually want in your hair. It takes some styling. Yes, it's cut into your hair, but without that styling it still isn't showing that shape the way that it could and therefore it's still not functioning for your face, shape the way that you want it to and by the way i don't know if you saw these Guys but um say hi buddy these little puppies. If you go ahead and pay attention to one of these two videos right now, where i'm gon na share a little bit more important stuff that you need to see. Also it helps to feed these guys. How do you not want to feed these guys they're like sleeping right now, they don't even care about this anymore. Okay! Well, thanks for hanging out subscribe,

Justin Hickox: Hope this helped you figure out what’s best for your face! Make sure to watch my video on what bangs are best for your face next! https://youtu.be/hLQkgFhyWgo

Diane Keane: Finally, later in life I came to recognize that due to my square chin, I had more of a square face rather than an oval and that I had to grow my bob past my chin, which I hadn't been doing. I started talking about my face shape with hair dressers and most just stared at me. I wonder why I never had a hairdresser mention my face shape when discussing a cut. Is this a failure of the school they attend, or do they not recognize how your face factors into your haircut/ style, or is it easier to just go along with whatever the client asks for?

Michelle Filak: Great presentation! Interestingly, I spent some time yesterday with a friend who has a round face (far too). She has a chin length bob.... and while talking to her I was thinking there has to be a better style abs cut for her. Because of this podcast I realize that she needs long layers as opposed to blunt cut as well as some height on top! This is a great video, thank you!

carol martin: Kevin is stealing the show! Love that dog.... tried to find one last year but didn't. S.M.Ds = top notch ! He is a big one! Thanks for the no-nonsense discussion on face shapes & styles. Easy to understand and simple solutions. Great!

Terry H: I'm new to your channel and I'm thoroughly enjoying them! You know why? It's because you explain everything clearly and it's not overwhelming! If this means anything, I'm saving your videos for reference. Also, you have a lovely home and Kevin & Benny are awesome! Hugs from Louisiana!!!

Gina Mihailidis: Thanks for this.It makes me feel better about my hair and not drastically changing according to trends.I mean I've had the same style for ages but it works, it's suited to my face and is easy to maintain.BTW your house is lovely inside and out.Have a great day!

Lily Thompson: First of all I want to complement you on your filming method. I absolutely love how you wander your environment. It’s so out of the box for this type of content and SO MUCH FUN!!! Brilliant! Second of all. Thank you for addressing that some of us, maybe a lot of us don’t easily fit into a specific face shape. I appreciate you teaching us how to work with that and its so helpful! Third, thank you for sharing your sweet babies with us. They are welcome anytime!!!

Jana's Beauty Space: I feel like I am at a hair seminar today gathering all this amazing info..exciting!.So basically we use our hair to fill it all up to that perfect oval shape that can carry anyhairstyle. ...hair is our tool to make it all look better!..love this ..seeing this video of yours I realize how many of us walk around with wrong hairstyles...especially ladies with round and fuller faces and those bob hairstyles....not everyone suits those and still is such a common style especially after 50...we need more hairdressers to be offering styles that suits and support our face shapes better!...this was excellent pointers and I hope many ladies will get some tips for themselves... now I am motivated to go try some different style..oh how much I needed some motivation in these trying times...thank you!! PS..Kevin is gorgeous..lovely dogs!

ShimmieHips27: Love Kevin & Benny! I'm learning what to ask for at the salon and what not to ask for at the salon. You explain things perfectly, thank you!

Lola Bear: You’re the Coco Chanel of hairstyling. The same wisdom she brought to clothing proportions.

Erin Austin: I think also neck length and overall body silhouette comes into play also.

Judy Tisdale: So happy to have found your video’s, so informative, funny and fun to watch. I like the fact that you change scenery rather at your home filming or hiking in the woods. Your family is adorable!

Lee Varona: Have a question: for an asymmetrical face with one side more oval and a smooth jawline, and the other side more round with a more pronounced jawline, what cut/style would be best? Also which would be the best side to part the hair/which side should have more volume? Thank you :)

Janete Xavier: I wish I could have a hair cut with you ‍♀️ actually the all hair transformation with you !!!! Never saw anyone explain so clearly like you do!!!!

waanjai: Hey! I left a comment on one of your past videos because I found it helpful, and I'm here again to ask another question. So I'm interested in a short hairstyle, like above the shoulder length, my face is very asymmetrical though, one(left) cheek is visibly bigger than the other. If possible, is there a specific short haircut I could ask to make it look good but at the same time hide a bit of the facial asymmetry?

Lori A Harg: Love your passion for Hair! Your videos always make me stop and think about how I am cutting and styling my hair!

Kim C1234: Thank you!!! Kevin is adorable btw! Great advice!! If you could do a makeover on someone with long hair that has a diamond face shape, that would be so nice. :)

jmsnyc1961: Dang, Kevin and Benny are just too cute & Kevin is a scene stealer & camera hog! Your moving around your house, and sharing your garden with us was a wonderful, personalized touch. I've been growing my hair a bit since: 1) due to quarantine and salons in NYC are still closed (glad you're able to reopen!) and 2) I've got a double (triple) chin. Since my hair is now 2+ inches past my neckline, I'm battling the 1960's Breck Girl" flip (it's flipping out rather than under). I'm all for retro, and while I'm pretty good at round brush blow drying, that's why I was curious as to your thoughts re: all in one dryer/brushes. Hug the pooches and have a glass of wine for me, even though it's not Wineday yet!

Amy Baker: I’d give anything for just ONE haircut that won’t make me cry or refuse to get it cut. 42 years and I’m still waiting.

Fiona Seah: Hey Justin, Thank you for this video. I had learnt and got a lot out of the best haircut for my face. Keep up with uploading more fabulous videos. Your awesome dude. Kevin, your dog is adorable.

Reneé: Thank you for this-it’s very informative! Can you do a similar video regarding what hair color looks best on different skin tones & which hair colors look best on all skin tones? Oh, and Kevin is a heartbreaker.

Kerfuffle: Absolutely fantastic! Thank you. Soo many enlightening, helpful points covered!

debra dennis: Just found you . I've been a stylist since 1985. Love your tips/ mistakes . Absolutely love the nature views! Looks like my back yard take care !

Linda Marocco: Great video, Justin... very informative!... the end of a mixture for face shape, and accentuating what you like about your face, really knocked it out of the park!!!... love the fur babies!!!.., they are SO darling!!!.., stay safe and healthy!!!... I didn’t think you were putting out a video today, because of Q &A on Thursday!... I got lucky today seeing your video pop up!!!!..

La Haza: I LOVE your unique & genuine approach to your channel. Just the very best there is!

Catherine Gardner: Justin, this segment was a hoot seeing your babies! Very good info. and reinforcing that I'm just gonna have to tough it out because of a style I enjoy wearing!!!!! I'm much more of a night owl!!!:)

suzypie11: Great video and good info but what I actually really enjoyed was your editing and cutting to different cameras and locations. As I do some Vlogs I found that really cool and was trying to figure out how you filmed and edited it because the transitions were very fluid. I did notice your adorable dog did disappear in that transition which helped confirm to me how you do it. Actually I really loved your dog, reminded me of my dog’s behaviour. Well done great video and much enjoyed

Debbie Mcbrayer: Awesome Justin! Amazing video. Very informative. Love your pups...and beautiful home! ❤

Usha Ushi: Thank u again for those amazing videos and the way u explain and u put the effort and love in those video -Can you please tell us how to deal with frizzy hair for people who lives in a high humidity states like Texas? -How to curl hair with hair rollers and still get unfrizzy volume at the top curls? Gloria Wilkerson: Hi Justin, your tips are invaluable and I always look forward to Tuesdays. Loved meeting Kevin & Benny today❤️

Kathryn Milliken: LMAO at your Berner. I have one too; in fact she is pushing my elbow up right now to pay attention to her. They are sweet dogs. Love your videos, please do a video that demonstrates coloring your hair as you transition to all white/ great. I was born a red head, changed to strawberry blonde. Now it is a darker blonde w/ white roots. Went with low lights for a while. Just not sure what to do...

Jane Huey: Hi Justin, what do you suggest for an oval face shape, fine hair and low maintenance. Need volume in the crown. Your videos are always so informative.

Libby Adler: This was really helpful. Thank you so much!

Mary Jo Norum: It is obvious to me you love your work. You are SO refreshing! Great videos! Love all of them. I wish you were around in my younger years.

Kim Richards: I’m 52 and have an oval face shape. I love the pixie haircut and would like to see a video about pixies. I do not like hair in my face and need very minimal effort in styling. Would this work for me?

Loren Thomas: Very helpful advice Justin! Look forward to Tuesdays when you put out new videos! Waiting for your line of shampoo!

Lisa Volpe: Always love your advice, thank you Justin.

Caroline Guf: I'm loving your videos. Content is fantastic! (Constructive criticism: you moved around way too much in this one. Move once or twice. This much felt contrived and unnecessary.) Thanks for the videos!

Gudrun Stein: Thank you for posting your great videos. I love your dogs especially the big one who steals you the show ! ❤️

claire vinet: Thank you so much for everything you share with us. It makes me feel that you are an open welcoming person. God bless you and your beautiful family!

Van o' Love: What fabulous cinematography! Always excellent info. Thank you.

dak7399: Justin, I'm 60, haven't changed my hairstyle ever. Not sure what shape my face is. I think it's a roundish oval? But I love my long hair. What do you suggest for a new hairstyle that's easy to take care of ?

lightl287: Thanks so much Justin Appreciate your advice

caroline john: Thanks Justin. Great vid as always. Loved your pooches and the mini house n garden tour. Who knew there was a 'diamond's shaped face ???!!! Take care stay safe. ❤

Andrea Caram-Andruet: Great topic!! And great information

tiffcre: New viewer...loving your content! What would you recommend for a pear shaped face/triangle? Your dogs are so cute!

Ac Haley: Justin, what do you think about this...let me say also 1. I think your work is excellent 2. I have been a hairdresser since 1982...went to beauty school in high school...am 56.......OK...so what has been elusive to me personally in my hair journey...and believe me, multitudes of women...is that one cut that can truly be wash and wear...the reason I say this is... retain types of hair...my type of hair...truly...many of us.. no matter what is done it will still be somewhat fuzzy and do whatever....so for me personally...I’ve always need some length....now I’m in a long bob...profile pic is old....and I still end up wearing my hair braided or up in some way to truly look my best....I once heard one say that a woman looks a best with her hair up...and I believe there is a lot of truth in that...but of course we all still love to have it down....SO can you address what we can do ...or cuts that can truly look great and be wash and wear...we are not lazy about beauty....but our hair does it’s own thing anyway and we are exhausted with the fight. Personally I’m all virgin hair now as I truly think it looks most youthful and healthy for me. Sorry this is so long but would love to see a vid with thought on this eternal dilemma. In any case thanks for your content

TJ: Parkour Hey Justin, how about a video on refreshing hair/hairstyles for those of us that don’t wash our hair everyday?

Marta Gloria: Your tutorial Always used to cut my daugh’s hair in this Pandemic’s situation. Thks Justin. God bless you always.

Judy Patrick: Great information. Thank you !

Joyce Smith: Great video Justin! Love your dog & your house is beautiful! Honestly I couldn’t stop looking at your dog & had to rewind a bit so I could pay attention to what you were saying Always enjoy your videos

LIZ Martin: Love Kevin Can you do a video for curly options. Thank you.

Christine Fauth: Well Justin all this time I thought I was oval face. But I am thinking I am rectangular. The before and after that you do are so beautiful. Just with the right cut. At 57 I struggle. I wish i could send you my face. Lol Thank you for you. I love your channel and your dogs. ❤️❤️

harmony331000: I’m a few different face shapes....it changes with my mood lol...now what do I do Justin....what’s that you say?...just watch Justin vids all day so I’m perpetually smiling...oh all right! ✌️all jokes aside this was a very good and helpful video, as always...thank you

Clare Cavalli: Fab video, as always. You're such a natural on camera lovely house and I can relate to your gorgeous dogs. We have a very needy black labrador thank you Justin

Katie •: I’m literally a pentagon. Small forehead. Large cheekbones and squared jaw even though I’m lean I’ve been told my face doesn’t fit my lean body cause my bone structure lol. Fair skin but naturally dark hair pin straight. I feel like i need lighter hair for more softness. All bangs rly make me look square & wide.

T. Collections: Post quarantine haircut is tomorrow so this is perfect! Loved the parkour My son is in Jiu jitsu

Susan Vanduyn: Justin, Kevin needs to be in all of your videos.

H. Olsen: I'm thinking of changing my hair style. Are there and websites or apps you can recommend for uploading a photo to try on hairstyles? Many thanks.

Jean McRae: What about a face with a chubby chin? Love this video! Pictures were a great help!

Ruth Adele West Cole: I just watched your video enjoyed it. My problem is a longish (length in forehead & chin) & a triangle or pear shape face. I did not see anything for me to pick from. I am also a short person & people say short people should wear short hair. Help !

Javajunkie1: Advice is spot on!

Dscjm C: Is there anything you recommend for someone w small hooded eyes and a thicker bulbous nose? (Id liken my nose to seem slimmer and my eyes not so hooded). I have an oval face and super straight hair) thank you!!!

TinaD: Thank you. I’m fed up with the advice that says “you can wear any hair with an oval face”...sure you can, if you want to risk looking like a horse. #throwawaytheflatiron

Sita Ananth: Hi Justin, do you have a way of figuring out face shape? I’m not sure what mine is :)

GingerJeanie: Hi Justin, another great video! Of COURSE we want to feed Kevin and Benny!

SC Smurfette: What hairstyles would be best if your right side of your face is lower than the left to balance?

S Cio: My hair implantation is really really flat at my bang My bang Doesn’t look nice BUT bang is my answer for my face shape What can I do ?

Joanne M B: Can you do a video for minimal but still some effort to look like there is a nice style. When I do sports activities my fine hair which is slightly below my chin does not hold its style. I don’t personally like short haircuts for me. A bob can look very boring on me and looks flat very quickly on top after any kind of workout. I think a lob is feminine and is what I try to have with some layering.

Victor Relmek: The way you film is interesting, just walk around when the subject changes.....cool

Lorraine Riley: Thanks Justin . Funny how you think you want a style cause it looks good but don't realise it could be high maintenance to keep it that way. !!

karen cradic: Oh my I want a dog like Kevin, he is gorgeous

Gledis Pirić: Sei molto bravo..complimenti❤

Avery Thompson: Do you work with relaxed hair that’s gone thinner and gray?

Sharilyn Barter: I'm not sure what face shape I have. I have a faded pixie and crimson red bang's point cut. Not sure if this is a good look for me? I do get lot's of complements. Any suggestions?

Gwen Bailey: Thank you for the Info.Buy can we see live Demonstrations & Haircuts video's w/Different Face Shapes.

Elsa Morales: So, I have a big and round face what kind of shot hair style will be best for me? Don’t want to color my hair anymore. Thanks

Maru Martí Almada Medio Cielo Biocosmética: This Is something that i never find: i have a LONG FACE. I mean an oval face, but it is too skinny, so, what should I do to make it look wider???? Thank so much, your videos are great, I watch them from Argentina!

Virginia Pursley: What do you do if you have diamond shape but very straight hair?

TheBTDEB: Great tips but that gorgeous furbaby stole the show. ❤️❤️

SusieB: I have a Berner too (actually two) and they use their paws to get my attention, as well.

Jennifer Foslett: I wish I could get a hair make over by you.

Randomness Personified: Aww bless him, for me, Kevin stole the show! Both beautiful dogs! <3

Mim Allen: What kind of hair cuts for women who have hair loss with thin fine hair ?

colleen donovan: Please Timestamp your sections so we can jump right to our face shape. Where is rectangular?

Past the Fog: How about oblong (long) face shape with large straight nose. Any rules of thumb? Bangs with a bigger nose?

Casey Donovan: ok I just have to say for a single girl that does construction and absolutely hates having to take a lot of time to do the girl thing ....
