I spent three weeks visiting seven cities in India in both February and November of 2018. But even after six weeks in the country, I hadn’t even scratched the surface of what this country has to offer. So in March of 2019, I traveled to northeast India, which is like a whole other world. The food, culture, and land there are so different, and I couldn’t wait to experience them all. Come along with me as I explore northeast India!
I had only arrived in Meghalaya a few hours earlier, but in that time, I had already had breakfast at Iewduh Market, eaten a phenomenal Khasi thali for lunch, shopped at Police Bazaar, and visited Shillong Peak. I was trying to pack as much into each day in this amazing city as I could. My next adventure was getting an Indian haircut by a local barber!
I’d gotten a haircut the last time I visited India, during my time in Kolkata. It was such an amazing experience that I had to get another one, as well as a shave and a back massage. The one I got in Kolkata was magical! My back was destroyed from carrying around a heavy backpack during my travels, so I needed a massage. Let’s go get one!
We arrived at Muda Shopping Complex in Police Bazaar to get my haircut. This mall contains lots of stores selling clothing, handbags, maps, and more. We reached Men’s Hair Salon, but they were packed, so Paul took me to King City Gents Saloon instead.
My barber started by trimming the sides and back and taking a little off the top, giving me an army-style haircut. I asked for a skin, because it’s cleaner and takes longer to grow back. My barber was an absolute pro! He knew exactly what he was doing. One of the great things about Indian haircuts is that they’re so inexpensive. Here, they cost $6-$7 U.S. Back home in Miami, they cost me $25!
After my cut, I went with a facial massage, which I was really looking forward to. It costs 500 rupees, or about $7.15 U.S. It’s so worth it. I had so much tension in my face from all the traveling I’d been doing, so I needed it! The massage was so relaxing, I actually fell asleep during it! But my barber wasn’t even done yet!
He put more cream on my face and then I had to wait ten minutes for it to be taken off. But the experience of him applying it was so relaxing! All of the tension in my face was gone. I was still tired, but I also felt a little refreshed!
Then he aped my face with steam. It was hot, but it felt really good. It felt like I was in a sauna! The guy next to me was actually watching one of my videos!
Then the face massage continued! I looked like Michael Myers! He got everywhere, even in my ears. I couldn’t believe how serene I felt. This is why Indian haircuts are my favorite type of haircut on the planet!
My barber wiped my face clean and then sprayed it with water. Then he wiped my face with alcohol to clean everything out. He really opened my pores. My face looked and felt brand-new with the exception of my mosquito bites!
Then it was time for my back massage, which felt so good! It was super hardcore, but my back needed it. Then he started twisting my arm as well. Then he even massaged my hand and cracking my fingers. Then he moved on to the shoulder massage, which was equally intense, but it was so insanely good! And then he styled my hair at the very end like a boss. This was the ultimate Indian haircut experience!
And it only cost 50 rupees for the haircut, 500 for the facial massage and 100 for the body massage.

Can anybody you look at? Why does everything like a snowman? I fell asleep there. What'S up guys david hoffman here from David's been here in Sheila, Meghalaya, India in northeast India and tonight I'm getting an Indian haircut and an indie massage. I actually got an Indian haircut last time. I was in India in Kolkata and everybody loved it so we're gon na. Do it again. My hair's been growing. I have a little bit of a beard. I need trimming up. My back is killing me because of my backpack every day, I'm wearing this, my back is destroyed. So let's go into this, it's like ball and wine, this hair salon - and this is actually in the police bazaar. So it's like the bustling bazaar, we're actually over Indian Street food later tonight. For now, let's go inside, get a haircut. Follow me: let's do it, let's do it. It mean haircut. I love Indian haircuts they're, always so like magical dude doctors, they really do stuff to your hair. You know they give you a massage and what is this place? This is actually called Buddha shopping complex. In short, it's called mood. A shopping complex, so you'll have a long number of stalls like from women back handbags to honey barons. How do I fold a kite fold? It getting men hair saloon, its LAN hair, so the perfect? Oh, my god, its back, follow it. The way I mean, as you just saw it, it's full it's fully packed so we're going to search for another hair saloon. It'S just downstairs in the mall, so I mean luckily there's more than one because I mean we don't really have time to wait. 30 minutes because then it's another 30 or 40 for the erequest yeah, but it's cool I mean this is this: is my favorite place to get a haircut or I think, oh, the hell was possible, yeah so make it. You need haircut and a massage. I want to like cut the sides when I keep a little bit of top and maybe maybe I shave - maybe I shaved yeah, it's shave. Why not? Everybody shave me right? Yep, okay, boy, this guy's head? Oh there we go there. We go he's giving me like a like: an army cut right yeah, the re cut is great yeah. Canada may yeah that hit your head skin.skin some. I actually asked him to cut my hair a little more and give me a skin. I like it skin because then it grows takes a lot longer to grow on the slot cleaner, this guy's a pro he knows unit I mean he knows what he's doing. I'M so tired guys. I'Ve been up since 4:00 in the morning, and then you see the guy next to me, he's getting like a face, massage the guy's like rubbing him with some like shampoo and soap all over his face. That looks amazing. Am I getting the same thing? No, no you're, not getting him. You just turn the cap. Definitely what is a facial, massage yeah, it's competition, massage I'm getting a facial massage as well, because that looks amazing five days in India. The jetlag has been killing me. Oh man, how much? Oh! That'S so much that's literally so much even I take you to a renowned haircut upstairs there's another one. It won't cause it much. They taught you about our lesson. Yeah $ 6 $ 7, that's it, but that is like you're tipping. You know, ya know. The thing is, the owner will get it so the bechamel sauce 500 is the most expensive thing: cuz the haircut only costs 50, so it's 10 times the cost or the Facebook, but I think it's worth it cuz my face has a lot of tension right now. I'Ve been traveling, I'm tired every day I face like really hurts up here. Oh that's, really an intense price, no 500 from you think again! Oh man, Oh ha ha! Oh guys, open it all our pores right now you look refreshing dude. It'S like it's like today. I got eight hours of sleep right now, yeah, no seriously, I will go great Wow, I mean still listen. The real massage right, yeah he's gon na give you some scream for a face yeah for the face war yep he hasn't done yet or that time. Yeah. No he's not gon na yet machine like you got it it's kind of like a bleaching training. You gon na shine David, like a star star of YouTube challenge: luxury sauna. Right now great, I look like Michael Myers. Look at that dude. This guy just took all the tension out of my head out of the forehead. I feel so good right now. I almost busted right there putting this on yeah and I have to wait ten minutes before he takes it off and a Z to give me a neck massage. I need the neck, massage, really bad, that's like where I need the most. This feels so good. It'S so different. I never had this offer to me before in India. What is awesome so he's gon na break my face. Okay, that's different yeah! No, I'm sure it's really hot! It'S nice! It'S a little hot, just good dope cool! This feels like I'm in a sauna, watching my video yeah, my good boy. Oh you close your eyes. Please don't open your crack. You don't open your mouth, it's good! It'S good! Look like I'm, like melting away! Take the first man well! This is such an unreal. Facial massage guys, like just like speed my face into smithereens, go deeper in my ear. It'S really cleaning my eyes by. Usually oh, you look like deep in there dude. Why does no? My friend, I know Hey, look like. Why does no they're like me, go for a smoke? My face looks like brand new girl, except the mosquito bites nice alcohol clean everything out. Yes, yeah really open my pores, it's a different experience, getting a hectare in India. What 50 rupees for the haircut, which is like less than a dollar yeah 500 for the facial massage, which is like $ 8 young guy that strong, I am yeah. This is so amazing like twisting my arm breaking it. Oh, my god just broke my arm twisted it. I feel so good. Oh, oh, oh man, it's cracking my fingers one by one. The best thing in the world has come here. Don'T even get a haircut just get a massage. Oh, my god is like twisting my arm and pieces. What'S he doing to me, it's literally break around where the shoulders dude Jack Jagger you like broke my back. That'S it I'm ready to go out feeling good. This time I hear ya cool man. Thank you. Awesome! Clean yep, Gadhafi Wow, it's awesome, amazing dude, the office of any haircut at all common soil and 500 plus 100 plus 50 650 Wow guys. That was an insane haircut. I mean the haircut alone was cool, but the facial, massage and in the body massage, was insane. The ultimate Indian haircut 2.0 right here at King City, chance saloon here in Police, bizarre Shillong, alaya, India. When you come out here, you have to come here and do this. That was epic. It cost me 50 for the haircut 500 for the face or moustache, but the facial massage was like really epic, sorry, I'm slurring, I'm so tired and the back was extra hundred so 650. I gave him an extra 150 as a tip, so total cost was 11 US dollars, definitely worth it. I spent double that and I don't get all that when I get a haircut. I love this place. John Napolitano: I went to India and had gotten this same treatment, I believe it totaled 10$ or a little more I can’t remember. I ended up kinda pulling him aside telling him he did a good job and slipped him $50. He practically cried. I normally pay 40$ for my cuts but figured I’d tip well!! Very nice people! Julienne Angelo Carpo: Doubted the credibility of the barber, however seeing him work and I can tell he had finesse and knows what he's doing. Also it looked like he knew some shiatsu, swedish and thai massage techniques. Don't know if studied or taught or self learnt but the hand and finger massages were taught to us in reflexology class by a Chinese teacher.
