#selfhaircut #mirrorsetup #menshair

It'S your man alex welcome back to my channel, make sure you guys leave a like and subscribe if you're new and now for the star of the show weighing in at half a pound four feet tall in length, your seven dollar walmart mirror all right. So let me stop playing. I use my mirror in three different ways, depending on what i'm doing. The first way is leaning the mirror on the door trim and the vanity. This will allow you to comfortably stand in front of the mirror and get things done with these. The second way is standing the mirror straight up against the wall. I usually like to let the mirror hang off the edge, a few inches to make things more comfortable when cutting the final and third way i use my mirror is rotating it 45 degrees from the wall. This is going to be the best way for you. If you are looking to do any type of grooming or self hair cutting this allows you to look at both of your mirrors at the same time, which will help you see every single square inch of your head now, like i said previously, this video is all About how i use my mirrors when grooming and cutting my hair, so the mirror i use is a seven dollar mirror that i bought from walmart. It weighs about half a pound and is four feet tall. It'S honestly perfect for the price, as you can see, by looking at the main mirror. It allows you to look through that walmart mirror and see your entire left side and back of your head. Looking through the walmart mirror allows you to look through the main, mirror and see your entire right side and back of your head. So you already know i can't create a video about my mirror setup and not give you guys a demonstration. What i can't, let you guys down, i have to walk the walk, not just talk to talk so right now, i'm about to fade the sides and back of my head, as you just saw, i rotated my mirror 45 degrees. So i can see every square inch of my head when cutting and as you guys see right now, i'm giving you guys a little 360 view of my hair before the fade. Just to let you guys know what you're working with now to get started i'll be using a number one guard with the lever halfway open using some of the advice given to me in my previous self haircutting videos from actual barbers. Instead of bringing up my initial guideline halfway up the side of my head, i'm going to be shorting up that guideline by only going up my head about half an inch and then drastically dropping the fade once i get to around the back of my head, this Will allow me to stretch out the fade to give it a much smoother transition, as the hair gets longer up. My head lucas so take a look at how i'm positioning my body when i'm cutting my hair. So i'm looking at one mirror and then i'm looking at the next mirror and then i'm turning and twisting look at how i'm using the clippers. How i'm bending my arms, how i'm turning my body? It'S just these simple things that can really really enhance how you cut your hair, and i think you guys should really take note as to how i'm, bending and looking at those mirrors to get all around my head using the number two guard lever halfway open. I'M going to be going up one inch from that initial guideline. If you watch any of my previous hair cutting videos, i would usually go up about half an inch from my initial guideline by starting that initial guideline lower on my head, like i did in this haircut, i can now stretch out the fade with the next guard. Making the transition seamless just a friendly reminder, make sure you guys are staying hydrated. You know it gets hot in there you get a little sweaty drink up that water stay focused so right here you can see i'm looking at the main mirror to look at the walmart mirror and i'm bending my right arm, because i'm a righty and i'm really Twisting it to get to the opposite side of my head to do the left side so now using the number one guard with the lever open, i'm going to start blending in that hard line that i left when cutting the initial guideline make sure you're going up About a quarter of an inch and flick up and away from your head so to get a closer look, you can see using that number one guard with the lever open going up about a quarter of an inch and flicking up and away from the head. This is my favorite part of any type of fade. It really just makes the haircut stand out now using the number two guard with the lever open we're gon na take off some of that bulk still using the same concept. Instead of going up a quarter of an inch, we're gon na go up about half an inch and flick up and away from your head when you're cutting your own hair, make sure you try to stand up as straight as you can try not to lean your Body a lot because it will throw off your angled perception and hand-eye coordination. This goes for both your clipper work and your scissor work. Now that i'm done using my clippers, my sides and back of my head are looking pretty good right now, but we can definitely make it look better here. I'M changing up my mirror and letting it lean on my door trim using my thinning shears in a comb. I'Ll be using the scissor over comb technique to blend in the bulkier hair. With the fade i created using my clippers, you guys are interested in any of the tools that i use in any of my videos. I left links in the description for all of the tools that i use from my clippers to my trimmers to my scissors and so forth. So again make sure you guys click the link in the description to see all the tools that i use. Oh snap, oh snap, look at that fade! Oh look at that fade! Wow! Oh, the back of the head. Oh, you need to work on that. Let'S get that going so just take a close look as to how my body is positioned right here. So i'm looking at the main mirror to look at the walmart mirror to cut the back of my head and then you can see i'm bending my arm up and around behind my head. I'M turning around i'm making sure that i'm positioning my body in the most comfortable position, so i can blend in that hair sheesh all right, so you guys can see what difference the thinning shears makes for the fade right. It makes a huge difference now. I have to jump in with the trimmers to line up the edges, but before then i got ta, let you guys know make sure you go to my instagram and you click that follow button. If you guys, like this, make sure you follow me on instagram, i love to engage with all of you guys watching in the comments on instagram, whether it be replies to my posts or my stories. I just love engaging with you guys so make sure you follow me on instagram. I know it might not be easy to see, but i'm trimming up my hair right now with my wall, trimmers, okay, i'm using my mirrors, making sure i'm getting those lines extra crispy - and you know you can't finish a nice haircut without trimming your edges so make Sure you guys use the trimmer and shape up your hairline so right here, if you guys need to bring in another person to do the back of your head when you're edging okay feel perfectly okay. Doing that me, i've had a lot of experience doing it. So i feel perfectly comfortable, so if you need help grab your mom grab, your dad grab anybody to just help. You line up the back of your head and he does a 360 spin for no reason all right. Now we get into the 360 view. For the final haircut product look at that fade that looks so nice notice in this haircut. I didn't touch the top at all. I just wanted to fade the bottom to show you guys how to use the mirrors, and i think it came out exceptionally well but wait. I couldn't have made this video without my handy dandy. Walmart mirror guys it's really seven dollars to get this mirror super cheap. Super affordable and it makes all the difference when you're cutting your hair and if you like it, please give it a thumbs up. If you're new to my channel make sure you guys hit that subscribe button down below. I really appreciate all of you guys watching my videos. I hope you enjoyed this one but i'll catch you next time. ArmaganVideos: My man, I need this tutorial but for people who are short-sighted (wear glasses). If I take em off I can't see anything, if I keep them on I can't get my sides right. I feel like I am doing these tutorials on some "insane"-like level. You got any tips? I've seen people flip their glasses infront of their eyes, hold em like this and then cut as usual, but I don't think that this is a good solution.

Robert Chessare: I've cut my own hair once and awhile too. Started just doing buzz cuts years ago now have been working on my own fades. Depending on the length of hair and what you want to accomplish it can be very difficult and time consuming. The 2nd mirror is a great idea. Also the blend work is an art form that practice does makes perfect. Great videos man keep them coming.

Tim Ronayne: Thanks so much for this vid Alex, so well made and explained! I've been using this technique since March and I swear I will never pay for a haircut again such a good skill to learn, so thankyou! I was wondering if you could explain, or do another video on how to do the same cut but shorter, starting off with a 0.5 and going up in length? Is it the same with half guard 0.5 and then 1, then 0.5 open to get rid of the line or is there more to it? Cheers mate keep up the good work! Tim from England!

Chris Anthony: I love what you're doing here, Alex! Your haircuts look great and efficient, the production quality is high, I like the music (good choice with Instinct), and your commentary is very helpful and funny. I gave the fade a shot and it looks good, but I need more practice. I'm not ready to go for the crisp lines, the fade isn't smooth, and I haven't touched the hair at the top of the head yet. I find it hard to believe that I gave this haircut to myself when I catch myself in the mirror, though; it looks good! Thanks for the videos :-D

Salmon.py: I took some notes, as I have not had a haircut for a long time. Due to the lockdown, I will have to cut it myself. Waiting for my Wahl - 'Lithium' Power Clipper to arrive :) 00:20 position mirror on door trim 00:35 position mirror against the wall 00:48 position mirror 45⁰ from the wall 02:12 360⁰ view of the head before the fade The mirror is at 45⁰ from the wall 02:26 #1 guard level (1/8" / 3mm) halfway open, bring guideline 1/2" (13 mm), drop fade near the back of the head 03:46 #2 guard level (1/4" / 6mm) halfway open, go up 1" (25 mm) from initial guideline (in previous attempts it was 0.5" (1.3 cm)), now the fade can be stretched out 05:08 #1 guard level (1/8" / 3mm) open, start blending hard line from the initial guideline, go up 1/4" (6 mm) and flick up and away from the head 06:19 #2 guard level (1/4" / 6mm) open, take out some bulk by flicking up 1/2" (13 mm) and away from the head. Stand up straight, don't lean body a lot to remain angled perception and hand-eye coordination. The mirror is on the door trim 07:05 use thinning shears and comb, use scissor over comb technique to blend in bulkier hair with the fade-in created by the clippers. 09:09 use trimmer to get lines trimmed at edges 11:04 final 360⁰ view of the head after the fade

Brandon Le: Crazy good video man, I wanted to cut my hair all of quarantine but I didn't know how to go about it, this video is super detailed and gives me confidence to try!

Joshuan Banx: You helped me with all your videos for my first dope haircut!. First time in my life cutting my own hair due to quarantine and couldn't have done it without you!. The mirror set up was the best!. It helped with cutting my hair. I've seen other videos and yours was the easiest set up and helped free up my hands. No need to grab on a hand held mirror. I also love the contacts tips in your other video. I wear glasses so that made it better to cut. Thanks again!. People love my haircut and it's thanks to YOU!.

Winston Sardjono: OMG! Thanks for the video! It makes it so much easier then trying to hold a mirror with my other hand! The 45 degree trick works like a charm. Now I can see everything i'm doing!

tthai08: Your channel has every detailed steps to fade your own hair with explanation throughout the whole process, unlike all the others just showing what guards to use. The mirror positioning is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks again!

XchaoticchaseX: Literally did this 2 days ago opening my medicine cabinet and leaving it up against that so I had a 3 mirror set up. Cleanest fade I’ve given myself in the last couple of months!

Joel Gutierrez: Hey Alex, I was wondering what your experience is with cutting the hair on the top with a larger clipper attachment. I tried that this time with a #7 and though it came out shorter than I'd typically cut it, it wasn't a bad look and kept the scissors out of my hands, which was nice--quicker too. Thoughts? If you approve of this method, maybe you can make a video doing this? Thanks again!

Keith Nettles: Why a thumbs-down for some of these viewers? Keep it up Alex. What you do is better than most professionals. Your mirror setup makes a world of difference.

TechnoIogy Futures: I’ve been cutting my own hair for five years now and I’ve never seen great self haircut tutorials here on YouTube so thank you !

garrett flores: Hey bro I cut hair for a living and I even found some great tips from ya man keep doing your thing @AlexKouras

Chisei: Encouraged by your videos, I did finally succeed to cut my own hair, but, what I found really hard, especially for the beginner, those fade cuts. Considering my results weren't that bad, and it was my very first cut ever, although those fades are so so tricky to do. I used a hand mirror as secondary, which made the process even harder, but I am really happy that I could do it eventually! Thank you, Alex!

Hamza Ettaleb: Honestly 2 guards is all you need, and the end product is amazing. Will definitely try this tomorrow. Thanks bro !

Nathan Vaughn: We have the same hair color and skin shadow so it looks best with a taper fade or medium to high with the bevel starting mid high or at the occipital bump. The bevel needs to be angled out slightly for the sides and normal at the back.

remaerD: Timely video. Hardest part for me was using mirrors and battling my brain to go opposite direction from what I am seeing when doing the back of my head.

Brock Puder: People might find it difficult initially but in just few cuts you will get it perfect.. I started my own haircut watching his tutorials.. people say now I am cutting better than our local barbers..

alberto marquez: Awosome! I will try this technique in two weeks, as I just cut myself my hair last Saturday, I didn't get what I wanted, but with your videos I'm sure it will be way better next tine. Greetings from Mexico!

DL Thomas: Another good video, Alex. The secret is practice and watching videos like this is helpful. Thanks!

Eu Mesmo: Aprendi mais com esse cara do que com diversos vídeos de cabeleireiros brasileiros que ficam presos aos pentes especiais 0,5 e 1,5 para fazer uma fade massa. Inclusive cortando o próprio cabelo. Quem for BR deixa o like ;)

falsafayg: Very well presented. Many thanks. Essential at the time of any pandemic and lockdown. Waiting for my kit to arrive. The real test will be after my trial.

Oliver Gomes: Just did my try today but followed your most popular upload video through. I did not know you made a mirror setup video so my first attempt was ok, i used hand held mirror which was very hard to work with as finding right angle was a nightmare lol anyway kinda proud of how it turned out. Next time it will be this mirror setup so let's goooooo. Huge Thanks to Alex for making some of these awesome tutorials !

Dustin Goyetche: Cleanest one yet! I love it. Almost ready to do my own!

Darlene C: Good video on mirror setup! I can finally dye (and SEE) the hair in the back of my head! ‍♀️

Excalibur Blade: Awesome!! This gave me the courage to cut my own hair. With barber shops closed, I couldn't be looking like a hobo. I decided to buy the Wahl clippers at Wahl-Mart (ha-ha). It turned out pretty good, but not as good as your's.

CUBA NORTHPHILLY: Hay Alex, that was a 100% awesome brother, I did minds last week and from 1-10 10 being perfect my cut was a 7. My girlfriend give me 10, I see l see a little line, I'm a perfectionist, Thanks to you I don't gotta go to a Barber again, lol

HiShop: Heeyyy dude you did your words which you gave me last week. Thanks so much for the detailed video about the mirrors position. Great job as usual. Warm Regards from Prague

notta3d: My mirror setup for the back is the hardest part for me. My arms always seem blocking my view. I've cut enough off that I already feel so much cleaner but will try more tomorrow.

Simon Fauteux: I bought that Walmart mirror, mine has a white frame and was priced at 10.97$ CAD Thanks for the amazing setup video, can’t wait to start my self-hair cutting journey once I get my clippers from amazon lol

Bonnie Hoke-Scedrov: Thank you so much for this informative video! I got so much out of it.

Matt: The fact he’s cut his hair 3x during quarantine is crazy cuz I haven’t at all ..... this is giving me some motivation

Chris P: Cut my hair again today and followed this video and come out even better

Tony Chung: man this is too good to be true! thank you for sharing hair technique to us! you da man!

Muhammad Musaitif: Lowkey I love and enjoy your videos, they are informative and funny! Great job!

ANDALUZ GERMANO-CORDOBÉS: Gracias por los consejos de corte de cabello, son de gran ayuda,Muchas gracias y un saludo cordial desde España

Blue Sky: Truly practice makes perfect. Today I tried to cut my own hair but unfortunately I ended up with shaving all my hair off

Chris S: I didn't even think of a full length mirror like this. Thanks for bringing common sense to a "duh" moment. Haha. Handheld mirrors have a limit when doing a haircut. Cheers!

Alin Costache: Brilliant mate, who thinks otherwise they are very wrong Thank you for this amazing video✊

Robert Alvarenga: Thanks for the videos especially the steps and what guards to use thanks man!! Big help

Josh Ramirez: Needed this during quarantine! Thanks bro!

Ti_ra_mi_Su 83: Hey man, is there a difference if you have clippers without the open/close blade? I have a clipper with metal guards, still that line between the fade and the higher part is visible, always end up going too short too high. Thanks for the tips.

Mr. Tibbs: I wish I still had a head of hair like that! Cherish it my friend...cherish it.

Michael Fenley: Very well done. I hope we will continue to see more.

Justin Consentino: This is exactly what I needed. Thanks bro!

y1ink: Good job, I managed to cut my hair with fade and boys too!

Nerv 001: Mirror setup is key, also good lighting helps a lot

jayson L: What a great job Alex...you 're always amaze me...bravo❤❤❤

R Sands: This vid will probably help a lot of aspiring barbers out there

Stray Sheep: I started cutting my own hair, but the most hardest thing for me is that I wear , so my vision is bad when doing the sides. Probably gonna need to buy some eye contacts

Salv Barber: Really well done video. A bit more in depth than the one I done, haha, and definitly more views than mine.!!

MyLife: For the guys who cut their own hair on the regular... How long does it take you to cut your own hair, including set up and clean up? (Hairstyles only, not buzzcuts)

Nemanja Ristic: How long does it take you to get your hair cut? Because it took me about 3.5 - 4 hours for the first time. Since the haircut, I forgot to have breakfast, and rehydration is definitely unnecessary.

Fernando Conrado: Alex, could you please do an oil and maintenance video on the WAHL clippers. I am starting to cut my hair now, and your videos are a great orientation and inspiration. By the way your most favorite part of hair cutting, fading the back, is my most challenging one. ! Great videos, Thanks.

John Chiluiza: I like you cut amazing results i too have been cutting for well over 20 years but i have thick asian type hair so its harder to cut especially the blending part on the back. I wish you would have a video for that, other then that amazing video.

lyon rambo: Love the way you set up those mirrors very smart

Ciro mertens: Thank Alex, with your tutorial I can cut my hair

Patrick Shaw: I used to cut my own hair about 30 years ago cos the local barbaers used to " f "up my flat top. Never expected to start doing it again. I have to say, you guys doing these tutorials are seriously helping people out. Respect.

RGonzalo: Bro how long did it take you to get enough cordination to cut your hair using a mirror since everthing is reversed. I'm having alot of trouble cutting the back of my head because everything is reversed, one example like when I move the clippers to the right in the mirror's image it goes left . Can you also do a video on the diffrent grips you have to use when cutting your own hair. Like when you cut the back.

Danilo Pinheiro: very good I'm cutting my hair alone in the quarantine here in Brazil.

Sudipta's Artwork: Very useful, I will definitely try it,♥️

spokenbysergio: What if we don't have thinning shears? Can we use the same technique to cut the top/sides like you did?

Hugo Ferreira: This video is amazing an teachs a lot, thank you to publicating this kind of content and sorry for my horrible english!!

Mizan Choudhury: This is the video ive been waiting for...need a good mirror setup... any tips on hand orientation when looking in the mirror?

Michael DC: This is what I’ve been waiting for . Thank you!

Amir Laal: The biggest issue I have in my bathroom is lighting. What is the lighting set-up you use or recommend?

hakim hakim: You are an artist, creative, amazing

Glenn Dawson: Good informative video thank you, please do more

Junior Neves: Parabéns !!! ✂️✂️✂️✌✌✌

ritz carlton: Wow u look great now.. awesome haircut dude. U did it so good n neat. Could save lot of money.

Theethawat Chokdeesrisawat: Perfect technic , thanks so much

Zooky N8: a new youtube star is born Keep going on, your'e doing it great

Francis Ignacio: How about using the DIY SELF-CUT system? Great videos by the way!

Rob Walsh: Well done very nice I cut my hair the back went I bit wrong but the wife stepped up and sorted it ✂️

Rebai mourad: This helps me lots, great video thanks

Emerson Caronan: You did well with the whole haircut well done. But i just want to know why you started with the 1 guard half way and 2 guard half way. Imo dont think this necessary. Your placement line is really good but i would have started that with the 1 guard closed. Then to clear out bulk you can use the 3 guard and go straight up to clear out maximum weight and to blend right into the length at the top. Then you can either fade down or create another guide using the 1 open and go an inch above your placement line and work up the guard system till u get to three using the lever open and close. Also if you had a 1 1/2 guard it would make it so much easier to fade between the 1 and 2 guard. This is all subjective though and you can do what feels best. I think its a great haircut nonetheless and its great that you are helping people manage their hair.

Bertie Pimplebum: Your Mirror Setup. I expected much better than what you show. I imagine the best way is to fasten smaller adjustable mirrors to be fixed to the wall-fitted mirror. The smaller mirrors fastened to the larger mirror using a piano hinge. See if you can do this yourself. A light above the main mirror would help. I want to do this myself, I just haven't got round to it. Two items I purchased that help enormously: 1) Neck Hairline Guide. 2) Prochive Beard Trim Catcher. From Amazon UK. Both low-cost items. Considered, worth it. Laminate a mirror with any fabulon sticky sheet. That Walmart mirror is going to drop someday. (UK)

Sachita Khadgi: He is so proud of himself making those fade out :)

OnWahl Tv: Thank you bro Love your content Lets get him to 50k subscribers guys

محمد الحداد: Very helpful thanks

Jim Bob: The video was extremely helpful until my sister scared me while I was shaving and made me mess up lol Ended up buzzing my head But I'm cool

David c20: Hey man, nice video do you use any trimmer for it? I wanna buy one, I just got my wahl clipper

Soulift: I haven't watched this vid but whenever I try cutting my hair I get the fade good on the sides but then the back I just have no fucking clue what I'm doing because I'm scared to go too high up, even with a mirror. I also have a no-lever clipper and only one attachment that's adjustable from 1 to 23 [i believe it's millimeters] (which is huge, and gets in the way when all you're trying to do is cut short) so that doesn't help either

Will C: Great ideas my dude!

Michael Fenley: Very helpful from a cool dude. Would like more vids if you have the spare time.

Abam Gabz: Wow, such an independent man! Good job!

J: What do you think about the tri mirror set up like standing up together ?

Dino Riyami: Is the mirror on the wall the set up? If so, I’ve got the same set up and the same Wahl clippers. Copied your other vid this morning’s. done a decent cut so I appreciate your help. Used a different mirror though

luis Yanez Cornejo: Nice job new here I will follow you on Instagram as well. I’m a hairstylist

Arkanis Gath: Can i start with a number 2 halfway open make the initial guideline then Go up half an inch above initial guideline all around.. with number 3 halfway open?and a number 2 open between initial and second guidelines flicking up number 3 open to reduce bulk on both sides of my head?

Hashim Uddin: Thank! Awesome vid and grate tips!

Buğra Görkem: Nice haircut but, i think if you grow your upper back of head, that can be more great, thus you can be less brachycephalic, of course this is my idea, also greetings from Turkey

F Cohen: What keeps the mirror standing up like that without falling???

er1038: I was actually wondering about this. Thanks!

Alberto Bello: Gorgeous ❤️

Noor Hisham: Hope lots of guys can do the haircut now :)
