With permanent color, it's just like you know, there's a party in your cortex and all color molecules are invited. Hi everybody welcome back to my channel hope. You guys don't mind the living-room background. Today. I have like 5 million things to catch up on because I was sick all last week, and so I didn't have time to sit at my little. You know fabric background in a little little. So in my last salon - education, video - I talked about color theory, okay, and in that video I told you guys that I would talked about the types of hair color and break it down for those of you who do not understand just as an introduction right. We'Re talking about hair all right, so this is hair. I know I love to draw. You know what I'm talking about hair. So this is a strand of hair. Basically magnified you want it. Imagine that you're looking at it at a strand of hair like this so say it's it's basically like a straw right, so you're looking at it this way, and this way it's like a cylinder right, so this is when you're looking at it from the side. This is when you're looking at it this way, so hair is composed of three parts. That'S the cuticle, which is this brown part here. The cortex, which is this part here in the medulla when we're dealing with hair color, we're gon na, be dealing with the cuticle and a cortex of the hair. Again, this is looking at it from the side, so this is the cuticle of the hair. This is the cortex. This is a medulla. We never get into the medulla we're doing with hair color, no chemicals, and that kind of thing - and if you do, then your hair is gon na fall out. Moving right along. There are two types of hair: color: okay, there's non oxidative, hair, color and then there's oxidated, hair, color, okay, so non oxidative colors are not mixed with a developer. Oxidate oxidative colors are mixed with a developer so for non oxidative colors. We have temporary and semi-permanent. So temporary colors are, you know when you go to the Halloween store and they have like that spray. They can spray on your hair to turn an orange or whatever something like that, and then you wash it and then it's washed out that song, so that is temporary color, it's a form of non oxidative color. Another form is semi-permanent color. So this is like, if you go to Sally's and we see like Manic, Panic, hair dye, you just put it directly on the hair and it washes out over time it's not going to deep into the hair. Okay, so oxidative colors, that's when we get into Demi permanent, so semi and Demi permit are two different types of color. Demi is a little bit stronger, longer-lasting than semi-permanent and then permanent color is permanent. Yes, non oxidative, colors, oxidative, colors and then developers come typically at 10, 20, 30 and 40 volume in other countries. I don't think it's legal here, but in other countries they do have higher volumes of hair color like a hundred volume and stuff. Like that see, I used to work with somebody. I think it's illegal here, but I used to work with somebody who used to get it shipped here on the low-low okay, and that stuff is so strong. I remember touching the bottle of it and, like my finger. Okay, so we don't mess with that here in the state, see our beautiful strands and hairy that we drew so then so temporary color, the color molecules and temporary color are large, color molecules. So if you're, looking at the strand of hair from the side, see the brown cuticle here and then the cortex and the medulla, so these are the color molecules, so temporary colors they just literally sit on the cuticle of the hair strand and then, when you're done Wearing it you wash it out, it comes out whatever semi-permanent so semi permanent hair color has large and small color molecules so, like I said, colors like Manic Panic or any of these, like vivid colors, like Pravana Vivid's, whenever you dye your hair, like blue and pink And purple it's gon na be a semi-permanent color, and so this sits on the cuticle and then some some small um color molecules penetrate the hair cuticle. So it gets so slightly. If you can see that there it gets ever so slightly into the cortex, but it doesn't go too deep. So then this will last a couple more washes. This will last just one wash you wash your hair, it's gone. This will last a little bit longer. So that's why hair colors, you know when people die their hair, green and pink and blue and whatever those kind of colors they don't last and you need to constantly refresh the color. It'S very high-maintenance color. But if you have the time, if you have the money to do it, then go ahead and do that next we're getting into demi-permanent. So in a lot of my in salon videos, i use a lot of red chin shades eq. That is demi-permanent, and that is what I use to tone hair and that lasts about four to six weeks. So demi-permanent color molecules are small and then they sit on the cuticle of their hair, but then they also get into the cortex here. As you can see, my beautiful artwork right, but it's deposit only and deposit, only means that it can't lighten the hair. It can't lift the hair, it's not strong enough to light lightening or lift the hair, but when you get into permanent color see this has small color molecules and see how, if you compare this in this hair strand with permanent color, it's just like you know. There'S a party in your cortex and all color molecules are invited all right so see how it's just this either all the color molecule that's deep into your hair. It'S permanent! It'S not gon na come out. The only way that it could come out is, if you do like a hair, color remover, but then even still, it's not that it's not gon na be true virgin, hair again umm now with permanent color. Not only can you deposit color with permanent color, but you can also lift the hair or lightening there. But let me talk about that. Really quick, its permanent color, there's only so many levels of lift that you can get. You can only lift the hair, maybe two to three love max okay, and in my last video I talked about levels. If you want to go. Watch that I'll leave that link down below, if you're planning, to lift or lighten the hair without using bleach, then the hair has to be virgin. Okay, as a rule of thumb, you cannot lift color with color. Okay, let's say it again: okay, say it with me: you cannot lift color with color. Now what that means is say if I dyed my hair dark brown. Okay, I dyed my hair dark, dark brown, and now I wanted to be blonde, so my hair is dark. It'S the level for let's say, and I want to be a level 8 or a 9 if I were to get a level 8 permanent color and put it on top of my dyed colored dark hair. It'S not gon na budge. It'S not gon na. Do anything. It may turn into like a weird kind of color, but it's not gon na lift the hair, because you cannot lift color with power. If you want to lighten color, you have to bleach their hair use a color remover. That kind of thing you cannot lift color with color wet, say it again. You cannot lift color with color, okay and again with permanent dye. There'S only so much lift you can get anyway, even with the high lift. It all depends on. The hair depends on the texture. You know a lot of different factors: dr. Ann okay, with hair color. So you know only a professional can really tell you. You know what steps that they're gon na have to take to achieve whatever it is that you want. So for those of you out there who you, you know your natural brunette and you're like I want to be platinum blonde, but I don't want to bleach my hair because I don't, under my hair you're, not gon na reach the using permanent color. It'S just not gon na happen. I'M telling you that right now, it's not gon na happen. If anything, your hair could probably get up to like an orange, or something like that, maybe and after that, your still have to bleach it. So yes, perlier dyed deposits and lifts if you're going lighter it also just deposits hair if you're going darker or whatever cover in grades. That kind of thing, and the only way to get rid of it, is to use a hair, color, remover or bleach it out or grow it out, cut it off whatever it's permanent, okay girl. It is in that cuticle and that cortex young little color molecules now moving right along um. Let'S talk about Lightner, okay, also known as bleach in the salon. We don't really call a leech quick, since most people call it bleaching off, say bleach, but we usually say: Lightner usually comes in a powder or an oil or cream form. Okay, so Lightner, basically diffuses color molecules. So if you look at this before strand of hair and see all the little color molecules peppered throughout after you see, you still see color molecules because you do still want to have pigment in the hair. If you have no color molecules in your hair girl, then your hair is dead and it's about to come out because it's basically so a stranded hair. Let me actually rip out a piece of paper. Imagine a strand of hair like this, like it's a straw right! Okay, here's here's a strand of hair, like I said, if you flip it that way. Imagine this white part is the cuticle of the hair, and then you have the cortex in the medulla, which is right in the middle right. If you take so much pigment out of the hair take so much out of the hair, then it's basically gon na be an empty straw. Okay, there's nothing left inside of it. It'S gon na be an empty straw. Um the pigments gone everything's gone, the elasticity is gone, everything's gone from the hair, then it's gon na break off. So this is why, if you ever have, if you watch my crazy client chronicles, this is why you can't really have like true white hair. Like just white, you can give the illusion of having white hair, but once all that pigment and everything is gone out of the hair space is gon na, be an empty straw and there's nothing left to it. And it's like. What'S the point, do you want to be bald? Do you want to be bald? You know dye your hair, white or compromise. Your did the integrity of your hair go ahead and do that girl, but your hair needs some sort of something in it can't be an empty straw um. So anyway, that was kind of a tangent, but lightener, like I said, comes in powder form or oil or cream form. So typically, if you're, if you're doing on the scalp lightening you're gon na, want to use a cream or oil, but it just depends. You know technology in the hair world has advanced so much that you don't really have to. It depends on the it depends on the product, but for the most part, if you're doing on the scalp lightening you're gon na do an oil or cream form if you're just doing foil highlights volumes. That kind of thing you're gon na, do powder, or you know they're interchangeable like for me. When I get highlights, I use an oil or cream form just because it's just more gentle and I have fragile hair as it is. So that is how lighting are works. You do mix Lightner with a developer light nerds. Technically it's not even, but it is its oxidative, but it's not a color. That makes sense it's Leonard, it's a nacelle category. Now that we have discussed the different types of color. I just want to recap on some things really quick, that as a sitting hair, I think I really was thorough about so yes, temporary colors, you spray it on or off hair color mascara. That kind of thing, one wash semi-permanent, lasts a couple more washes, but still maybe last one to two weeks, something like that, depending on how often you have to you wash your hair and their hair has to be lightened. Before of you apply a semi-permanent color unless you're already a blonde, say you're already a level nine blonde. Naturally they just put in a peak a pink streak of hair or something like that. Then the color is more than likely it'll take you know, but if you're a brunette - and you put a semi-permanent say you do like a Manic Panic, hot, pink over your brunette, it's not going to show up. If anything, you might have like a like a cast of pink or purple or whatever in the Sun, but it's not going to show up. It has to be pre lightened, okay, now with demi-permanent. So when i used to dye my hair - i think, maybe a year and a half ago, or something like that, i used to dye my hair super super dark. Almost black, I didn't use permanent color. I use daily permanent and that's because I was just afraid of the commitment of dyeing my hair really really dark. I didn't want Ike permanently, because I know myself and I know I like to switch up my hair a lot so demi-permanent. If you're gon na go darker, it's a great option, because it's not permanent another way that I use demi-permanent colors, because again it's deposit only is if I pre lighten the hair. If I do highlights - and then I tone the hair, so whenever you hear me say toner gloss, some stylists also call it a varnish that kind of thing it's gon na be demi-permanent. That'S what a toner is. A toner is demi-permanent color. Okay, so say I do like I'm doing highlights on somebody in their hair pulls really really brassy, and I want to cut the brass out. They need to refer to my other video that I did about complementary colors and what colors cancel out each other, and I would put out about something like an ashy toner over that person's hair, because it's just gon na deposit color onto to the lightened hair and Cut any brassiness and that kind of thing: okay, so those are the two instances where you would use demi-permanent now permanent color is when you want to permanently color their hair, so say if I didn't want to dye my hair black and I wanted it to be Permanent, like I know, for the rest of my life or until I cut off or grow my hair, I want to have black hair red hair. That kind of thing that you know permanent, if you want also permanent hair color, is gon na, be it's gon na cover great ok. Demi-Permanent will not cover your gray hair. So if you have a gray hair and you want to cover your roots, you're gon na be using permanent colors. So those are the instances in which you would use demi, permanent and permanent hair color so for Lightner, obviously you're taking pigment out of the hair you're moving pigment. This is used bleach whitener. That kind of thing it's used when we want to go lighter when you want to you, know you're starting off with your natural color or it could be dyed cup. You know permanently colored hair. Whatever you start with okay, then you would use the lightener to lighten or it lifts the hair. Okay and then you would use a toner if you want sometimes like if somebody is a natural blonde. Usually, when I do highlights on their hair, their hair just looks beautiful. It just lightens perfectly, but those are very rare. Those are like unicorns in the hair world. Okay, so nine times out of 10, I'm gon na use it toner after he's a light, neuron hair. But yes, that is it you guys. I hope that the way I explained the different types of hair color. I hope that it was comprehensive for you. Let me know and comment down below. Did you understand what the heck I'm talking about and yes, I know it's complicated. It is complicated. Okay, it takes a lot of practice, a lot of studying a lot of hands-on experience, which is another reason why you know people who get mad and they're like oh you're, giving away our secrets like okay - I don't know about you, but the first time I learned About hair color in school, I still didn't know what I was doing after 1600 hours. So whatever I'm secure my job and in myself so mmm I know got you girl so anyway and guys, oh my gosh, I always say I always say girls and then there's always somebody cuz. Like don't forget. Our industry has males in it to you and I'm like okay. I know it's just I'm just say he's the same girl. Okay, I'm sorry! I do want to acknowledge the guys out there watching so anyway. That is it for this video hope you guys enjoyed. It hope you guys learned something and you guys will see me in my next, so thank you so much for watching bye. You

Hateyo Loop: Tomorrow i have math exam but instead of algebra here I am learning about cuticles cortex and molecules P.S it's 4am in my country

Brandie Muniz: Wow this was so helpful! I hate going into Sally’s with questions and the employees give me attitude/sass (or just wrong information in general). Loved this video, thank you!

Rylee Osborne: I just graduated high school and I'm applying for cosmetology school and watching your videos really helps. I don't know how much it'll help me when I attend but I feel like I won't be thrown for a loop once I start college. You explain it all so well and I love love love your drawings they make more sense at least to me

Rome Alexander: Just in time, I've been considering experimenting with semi/demi permanent color for a few days now!!

Brooke Jonas: “There’s a party in your cortex and all color molecules are invited.”

Coilee B: Even though you made this two years ago, this is still most detailed video I have seen so far and this is helping get prepared for my written cosmetology exam! Thank you so much for this!

Shawol-MeU-InSomnia-Neverland: I honestly wish I had you as a professor in college when I was studying, because you have such an amazing way of educating people and just sharing your information about hair!! I love seeing these videos and I just wanted to say that I appreciate all of the time and all the effort you put into compiling this information for us. It’s really helpful and useful. I’ve never colored my hair before or done anything drastic to it but I’ve been thinking about it for the last few weeks and I’ve been watching a lot of your videos to learn about hair and prep myself for it! Thanks so much Brittney! ❤️

Dilayla Brea: I have been waiting so long for you, thank you! ❤️ I’m always experimenting with my hair longing to further understand the science behind it in a way I comprehended. I’ve being dying my own hair for almost two decades now and it’s been a great journey thus far. As a visual learner, I appreciate your diagrams!

Pルナ: Thank you so much for these amazing videos Brittney, it's very relaxing to listen to you explain things. Helps me to calm down when I'm anxious!

Ciji Fitness: Absolutely great video! I've been waiting for someone to scientifically explain the process of each level of hair dying, I'm a biology major so this was very fascinating to watch. Thank you!

Candace Bethea: You’re an awesome educator! Very informative, and it’s great to see you looking so happy again!

Aime Ciprian: Yes, u explained well! Thanks so much for all the instructional videos! Love them. I’ve always wanted to understand the science behind it since I color my own hair. I used to have permanent black hair! It took forever taking it off. Had I known it was that hard I wouldn’t have done it.

Ana Suarez: Just discovered you and I’m binging ! Haha I’ve been doing hair for about 2 years now and it’s after a year in the salon that I’m starting to feel real confident with toners and knowing what to use so these videos definitely are useful. (I watched your levels one first) but yea I totally agree with you , sharing is caring . I’m a firm believer in educating my clients as much as possible being when I was a child I was taught so little how to tame and love my curly hair .

Lily Uzunova: Really loved this! <3 Looking forward to more such videos!!! Thank you!

Amanda C: Thank you for this video. This has helped me a lot. I have recently decided to go darker ( my current/ natural hair is a level 4 or 5 with pre lightened ends from a long time ago), like black but, I wasn't sure about demi or permanent. I will definitely go with demi! Cuz I know I want to be able to change the color later on, lol. Now my only struggle is figuring out what type of black hair color I want. If I should go with natural brown black, jet black or a blue based black. Their are too many choices lol.

banana cat: This was explained so much better than my cosmetology teacher taught me! Thank you!!

Karolina: Yessss, thank you so much for this video, it's very informative and you are a great teacher - easy to understand and entertaining at the same time

Mo's World: This is the most informative video I've ever seen on hair color!!! I absolutely love the pictures... I'm a visual learner

Camille Crisostomo - Rubia: I love how you illustrated what you have been explaining. I have been watching videos in the hopes I could understand (as I am not professional, and the salon have not achieved the color I wanted) while I research to tone my hair with its warm tones. YOUR video I have found VERY educational indeed. Thank you! ❣

Lorna Curtis: Brittany, thanks for the information on types of hair color. I was afraid when you first said permanent color in the cortex changes the molecules in the hair permanently. BUT, since I have gray hair, I understand why my stylist uses permanent color. The more information I know, the more I understand what my stylist is doing to my hair without feeling nervous.

Bridget C: Found this video so helpful! Maybe someone could help!! I just dyed my hair using permanent color and 20 developer. My natural hair is about a level 6/7 warm brown, but I found the dye looks darker than I expected it to look (now a reddish copper color). So If I wanted to lighten it two levels with a lighter dye and 20 or 30 developer now…that wouldn’t work? I’m in denial and I’m really trying not to use bleach :’(

The Morris Fam: I love your videos girl! ❤️ I’m starting cosmetology school in April and I get so excited and happy when i watch your videos, they’re fun and educational ☺️❤️ and i love the Hair culture page!

Sandy Peruzzaro: I’m so grateful to have found you!! You are a great educator! I have been looking for a video that explains the basic and you make it so easy to understand... Thank you so much Sandy

Maricela Serrano: You are truly amazing, I’ve learned so much from you. You have no idea how much I respect your thoughts and opinions. I don’t know you personally but I swear it feels like I do at the same time. You a true, dope person. Thank you for being so real and honest, keep up the awesome videos boo ❤️

Falicia Jean: Great info!!! Thank you! You do a awesome job explaining the differences:)

Gucci Smile: I’m a junior in high school and in my first year of cosmetology and your videos help me out so much! Thank you for going in depth ❤️

Emilia Mammino: *watches this video* Me : damn I feel like such a pro! Thanks girl ! Always helpful! ❤️

Latica Shawnlee: this was very informative! I'm currently enrolled in cosmetology school and actually just got out of the coloring module not too long ago. I really appreciate this video!

Brooke Davey: Amazing video Brittney! <3 Quick, question; can you put a permanent colour over lightened hair or should you stick with a demi-permanent? So if I wanted to take a level 6 brunette (previously coloured) to a level 9 copper, after I lighten the hair should I use a permanent or a demi-permanent? Thank you <3

Crystal Mae: I was looking forward to this. Thank you! Your simple teachings help me understand things in a new way.

Gigi Spanos: I cannot handle the level of beauty. I was getting ready to dye my hair, found this video, and now I cannot stop staring. You are UNBELIEVABLY GORGEOUS! And that makeup compliments your eyes and skintone SO WELL. GAH. I'm drooling over here, haha!!!

I’m Chilling: I’m soooo thankful I found your page. You are literally my teacher for things I question at school. Watching you right now while I’m class .

Alexander Gonzalez: Outstanding presentation. Right to the point. Impeccable explanation. Thank you.

Sarah Wilson: Thanks for your great lessons I'm learning so much from you!

Dee*the*singa: Loved this video. Your explanation is so clear! I also like how you gave us visuals. Keep up the awesome work.

Philly Fly Tee: I so love you! You take time out to teach us who need to know how to take care of out hair professionally. Thank you so much!!!

Jamie S.: Thanks for sharing. You should do a video on what happens/causes your strands to get heat damage. Also how to prevent and treat heat damage.

Mokulen: Thanks for explaining. The stylist gave me demi-perm and I had no idea what that even was...but I trust her. I boxed dyed a year ago and she has been helping me ($250 later haha) to get this damn red out. Never using box dye again.

Mushira Ali: Am studying hair dressing here in London and I loved your video and the way you explained the types of colour and hair structure. Awesome

Daniela Moreno: Wow girl thanks for this explanation it really helped clear up a lot questions I had about hair dye. You rock!

Dee_xx: Brittney Grey Great video, very clear explanations !!! :) What would you say to someone growing out their bleached hair to embrace the grey, about 4" growth now with many applications of level 9 and 10 demi toner on there, who went a few levels darker to camouflage the yellow coming through.... but maybe a little too dark. How can I remove the buildup of toner (that's what it feels like), basically back tracking a bit before returning to a level 9 toner???? The toner is fading, but slooooowly.... Fyi: I have pretty healthy hair. For the years of bleaching my hair, I only had to use 20 vol and bleach every 6 weeks on roots, no toner. I do Olaplex treatments every once in a while. Thanks for an opinion, if you ever see this....

Caselena Yang: I feel like this video and the color theory video has taught me more today then my current cosmetology school has taught me in the past year! You’re a lifesaver! ❤️

blackmoonpearl: Brittney, that was the best explanation of hair and color that I have ever come across. Your drawings were beautiful and after so many years, I finally understand and have retained the information. You are funny, we'll know-legible and have a beautiful soul. I believe that the more knowledge we share with others, God will provide us with more. Thank you for your time, love watching your videos. Informational, educational and entertaining!

Miss Lady: Wow this was awesome. You are very good at simplifying a lot of information. Thank you for this!!!!

lokiawriter: Hey Brittney. Just wanted to let you know how much you’ve inspired me. You are intelligent and beautiful, and just an all around amazing person. Keep doing what you do and make the world just as beautiful as you are.

Quentin Dampier: I found this video today while sitting in the salon knowing I have a client that is seeking a color job. I’m fresh out school, 3 weeks working a salon and still feel lost on color. I’ve been feeling some kinda way until you said you didn’t know what you were doing either after you 1600 hours and it takes time and hands on experience to get. Thank you

sophie francis: My hair is going through a very tough time right now! I dyed it dark chestnut with a permanent box dye(L’Oréal) and then it just started falling out in clumps. My hairs been through a lot of bleaching/dying previously. That was 4 weeks ago and still just shedding whenever I run my fingers through it. Well the colour has faded different shades all over. If I just keep topping it up with a semi permanent, will it damage my hair any more? I’ve had an olaplex treatment at the hairdresser but I have no idea what else I can do to revive my hair. Help please

Muna Ali: you really answered all the questions I had. Thanks for taking the time and giving us all these informations.

Suspicious Koala: This video is very helpful! Thank you so much! Love all your videos!

luna__fleur: Yes!!! Quality videos... thank you this is soooo appreciated ❤️

faye lh: I am glad that you are feeling better, and glad to see you back. I love how you take the time to break down everything.

Hayley Arnold: You’re always so informational! Thanks for sharing also, I don’t know if it’s the lighting you’re using, but the color of your hair right now is soooo beautiful with your eyes and skin tone #goals

Holly Golightly: Very fun video! I can only learn with visual aids. This helped me so much! My whole problem is I need to get my hair to the natural brown for a project. But I do not want it to always be brown. I want to be able to go back to my fun colors. Thanks for your video! I will be subscribing :D

Kim Thomas: Hey. I really like how you break things down. I'm licensed but your videos are great reinforcers. I would be interested in seeing a video on toners/ glosses? Thanks! Also, a salon that I worked in used demi- permanent for gray coverage often with the thoery that it gives a natural blend as opposed to permanent for people who dont have a lot of grays. It works for the most part but of course doesnt last as long as permanent. What are your thoughts on this?

Vanessa Vargas: I'm so happy I found this video!! I just graduated from cos, and I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to color .So thank you ❤️

b srvvr: Love your videos! So much helpful information :)

Rachel I: This is a really good video. I just found your channel and subscribed! I came here looking for knowledge on hair dye. Wish I had done this first before I started coloring my grays. I’m a dark brunette with very few grays randomly scattered through the top of my hair and around my face. It’s enough I want them covered but nothing major. Needless to say my colorist was using permanent color with ammonia through my whole head. Is this what you would advise too? I just feel like my virgin, soft, and shiny hair is gone and it’s now dry, brittle, and damaged. Last time I asked him, what’s the least damaging thing we could do to get them covered and he said semi permanent color and did that. That was two days ago. Is that only going to last for about 2 weeks now I wash my hair one to two times a week usually. Thanks for your help!

Keitha: This was the perfect video to explain the different types of color. this was extremely helpful.

Amarie: Jeez I LOVE this channel!!!! I love the topics and how they are explained, the humor, everything!

Jasmine: Very helpful video!! Thank you for creating these. Probably the best ones on you tube. You are brilliant!!

Emily Elizabeth: Thanks for the video Britt! You're a great teacher

Ieva Krasovska: Brittney, I love your videos and I love your attitude and confidence! My hair stylist went on a parental leave..and now I am in a hair mess!!! How would you suggest communicating with your hairstylist some of the things that you don't like that they are doing, or you see that it is completely wrong?! I can't even count the things that were done wrong with my hair with the new hair stylist that I went to, but I was feeling uncomfortable to speak up. Just paid the money, left completely unhappy and now looking for another hairstylist to fix my hair!!!

Ali T: Thank you very informative New to this and really needed the help. I love that you explained each type and level.

Skylar Dorsey: I love that you want us to fully understand what your telling us about coloring hair so much that you actually sat and took the time to draw out visual aids! They were so helpful too! That's what I love about your channel! Your passion for hair truly shows and let me tell you; it's infectious! Haha! Every time I watch a vid of yours I get all jazzed up, and this time, I really really really want to dye my hair or maybe just give it some more dimension with some highlights! Thank you so much for this vid! It really helped connect some dots for me, and I'm sure I'm not alone! What I'd love to see a video on is developer... Like what's with the different numbers and how long do you keep them on for and everything developer! Then I think I will be a full on pro, or at least not completely useless, when it comes to hair color! Haha! Thanks hunny!

Vicky Hacker: Excellent tutorial for those of us not schooled in hair coloring. Learned a great deal

Goth Luna Moth Metaphysical Apothecary: I adore your hair!!! And the information is amazing! Wonderful explanation of the medulla and cortex! Saved to watch later, must learn all I can, thanks!

Bonnie Johnston: Very informative, thank you for putting this together.

Rhonda Wesley: Love how informative you are, visuals really help too!

Amanda Nettles: That was extremely helpful. Thanks for this video. I think I want to experiment with Demi colors because I just can't make up my mind of what color I want. One side of me wants to be blonde the other side wants to be red lol

Jayme: Very informative. Thank you! I enjoyed this video and learned a lot about my damaged hair. Haha

Dante Velasquez: I love the drawings lol In NYC we have 50 volume in the beauty supply, I only use it on clients with a high lift occasionally for those that refuse lighter. I never heard of 100 volume that sounds scary. We have to remember that color molecules are actual proteins so like you say when they are all removed the hair will lose integrity.  My hair strands are medium thickness and whenever I have lightened my hair they feel so thin and when I dye them back to my natural level 3-4 they feel better because they have been filled in with proteins. I prefer my hair dark in any case and even with highlights, i have never gone above a level 7. And yes don't forget you have guy fans too :-)

Will C: I dont even know, this was on my youtube recommendations and Im so damn glad. Im not looking to dye my hair, but this was hella informative and very interesting. Youre very knowledgable on your field, you should be very proud of yourself

Kat B: My mom did hair for 30 years and owned her own business while I was growing up. She has been the main person who does my hair and I love watching your videos because when I'm in the chair she always gets really happy and surprised that I'm becoming more knowledgeable. Backstory: I had a bad accident when I was 11 and after that I have had a permanent pain in my dominant wrist so I wasn't able to go to cosmetology school like I wanted to. Your videos are always great to watch and you make everything easy to learn. Love you from Chico, CA

Sarah Hunter: Thank you so much for making this video. Im doing a science project of different types of hair dye and this help so much!! :))

KATE 4biglittlevoices: I’m going to make a color chart for my favorite semi- colors to refer to - great idea !

Simone Munford: Hey Brittney! I loved this video! I have a question for you that I can't seem to find the answer anywhere on the internet. So I have decided I want to permanently dye my hair a dark chestnut brown. However, when I went to the hair salon the colorist REFUSED to dye my hair permanently dark chestnut brown and told me flat out to leave unless I agree to only use demi-permanent hair dye. SO I had no choice but to use her demi-permanent hair dye in dark chestnut brown. After only 3 washes, my hair is now more of a light brown color which is not at all what I wanted. The women told me I need to come back every 4 weeks so she can re-apply the demi-permanent chestnut brown hair dye. She told me that permanent hair dye will wash out and fade away in the same way as demi-permanent so we might as well use demi-permanent hair dye to avoid damaging my hair.. Is this colorist telling me the truth I am frustrated beyond belief and all I want is for my hair to stay a darker shade of brown..

JaniRie: Hey Brittney :) thank you so much for these videos, they are so helpful! i have a question, maybe you can help me. one year ago i dyed my hair with a semipermanent colour from the supermarket.. it was a darkbrown and my colour before was virgin brown hair with bleached ends.. and now one year later the colour is still there! it didn't fade at all. now i have to grow it out. do you know how this could happen?

Violet Moon: Thank you your videos are so informative! My hair is virgin and after watching your videos I believe it's a level five with copper tones and I would really love a very vibrant magenta...so if I understood you correctly if I use a permanent magenta Will it lift my hair to make the magenta more vibrant or will I have to go and get it professionally lightened?

Justthink Think: Hey Brittney this was such an informative video! ❤️ I have one question and would love your professional help. I have never died my hair before it's a medium brown with medium thickness and I want to semi permanent dye my hair a dark brown. Will it damage my hair to a point I can't get it back to its original colour and quality?

ovrjoyed: Great job explaining the information regarding hair color. I know nothing about it and I understood everything. Keep teaching, great work!

Rosanna Polanco: Hi Brittney! Love your videos. One question : The hot root happen when you apply a color lighter than your natural base color? What you suggest in this case? Blessings

mechanesthesia: This was super helpful! Thanks! I had no idea about the difference of these.

Regina Woolfolk: Love this video and I have a better understanding of what I’ve been putting on my hair lol. One question I do have... I went to the salon and had my hair dyed this dark plum permanent color. Is it okay to dye my hair back to black with a permanent color? Is permanent on top of permanent okay?

Alien Aesthetic: I thought I bought semi black hair dye and I put it in my hair. Just read the bottle because it’s fading slower than I thought it would and it said Demi. Thanks for explaining, I actually like the colour it is now, very dark chestnut brown ❤️❤️

George Harris: You're literally teaching me more about hair than my boss who's has his own salon for 35 years...

Lizzeth Romero: oh my gosh i love your videos, i struggle understanding hair coloring and your videos help me so much!❤️❤️

BamBamxxxx: 16:15 lol So much shade, the sun eclipsed! This video was really informative, and I loved your visual aids. Thanks Brittney!

Loulou Bell: I trained when I was 16 and am now 43. I ❤️ your videos as it's a great refresh thankyou

KellyS: You are so good at explaining and it's easy to learn from you and not get bored

Oona-Karita Isokoski: Great video! Does demi-permanent completely fade out or am I still going to have to dye my roots? I've been thinking Loreal Casting Creme Gloss to get my natural brunette hair with highlights back to just brunette, darker than my natural color tho. But I'm concerned it won't fade out the same way as glossing for example and I'll end up with a commitment to keep dying it. (The product is marketed as semi-permanent but since it has two things to mix together, I assume it's demi.) Thank you so much, if you see this and can help in some way. I can't seem to find any answers to this.

S-L *: “You cannot lift color with color!” Sold. I’m officially a new subscriber

DraMaGal: This was very informative! Loved it!

Kaylee Summer: If you’re not a teacher already, you should be one! I have ADD so I have a really hard time focusing and following along, but you explained it so well I was able to follow along and understand everything completely! If you were my school teacher I would be an honor roll student.

Anna Ķire: I know the struggle. When I worked with clients there was a girl "why my hair color isn't lasting long, I think you are doing something wrong", I'm like gurrll, pinkish hair, I told you it's not permanent and can't be, and told you even why. Gosh, I wanted to kill her. :D Today my hair is recovering from 3 color removes, 2 bleaches and 2 colorings (from lvl 8 to lvl 6 copper to get rid of green tone) in 2 months. They are a bit dry, but hey, few more times and I will get my natural blond hair back. And yes I know it will be colored hair, but they will blend with my natural roots and I will forget what is hair color.

emilybinx: I just graduated cosmetology school and your videos are super helpful!

Andre Malibu: GIRLLL.. I was saying it with you "YOU CANNOT LIFT COLOR WITH COLOR!!!" right now I'm super platinum blonde and i wanted to add some low lights with demi permanent.. I just hope it washes out after a while because I'm going to want the low lights in for a while.. hopefully its not a mistake. we.. will.. see in just a few minutes. lol.

Carol Little: I love your videos, you explain tings so easy . Like hair for dummy’s

Trista Miller: Demipermanent covers my grey, but only because my hair is really fine and porous. Your explanation is really good and thorough. I have never had it explained to me like this and I wish I would have. Of course, in cosmetology school you have about a million things to absorb and I've always questioned whether I had a thorough understanding of the different color types. I have felt a little overwhelmed by all the types of hair cuts and color techniques so I haven't even worked in the industry yet. Not 100% sure about it all but maybe I will feel better as I watch more videos like this. I know you do a lot of learning on the job, but I'm the type that really has to have a pretty good handle on things before I can stand behind the chair.

Amanda: I love your videos! This is the stuff I want to know, so I'm not a complete moron at the salon.

MrzBadaBing: Brit loveee your vids especially these types...things are making so much sense to me now...however theres some topics that i get confused with which are hilift colors..i never know when to use them! I always wondered what if i hada client with virgin hair lets say a level 7 and they dont want to bleach their hair but would want to be a level 10...would a highlift be good for this ?? the other hairstylist who has way more experience and workwith blondes told me yes but it would look brassy so its better to use bleach...i also wondered if someone wanted to get lighter with less damagae could i do a few rounds of highlift and then use bleach instead of bleaching their hair 2-3 times?? Could a hilight color be used on dark hair (lets say a level 3 with level 7-8 highlights then toned with a 7nb or something) could i use highlift instead of bleach?? i know color doesnt lift color and highlift would be a color so the hair would have to be virgin( i am assuming) ...also i started to tone people with just a purple or blue shampoo (thinking maybe i can save all my shades eq ) because i find it a waste to use all that color just to leave it on for 5 minutes...i also heard with shades eq that the longer you leave the toner on lets say 5 minutes it last up to 5 washes, leave it on for 20 mintures its 20 washes...but then sometimes if you leave the toner on for too long it can turn dark! I want my clients to be able to get the fulll effect of the toner if thats the case...im confused about that one ...also when would you use crystal clear in your formulas...i asssumed that if my client was alrady a level 10 or above and i put a shades 9p with no crystal clear does that mean if i were to leave the toner on for the whole 20 minutes then her hair will go down a level 9 then right?? but if i were to mix with crystal clear it dilutes the formula meaning it goes up to a level 10?? thanks girl sorry for the long ass post
