Creme Developer (30 volume for bleach)

Mixing bowl

Applicator Brush

Color Booster (optional)

Red/Gold Color Corrector (optional)

To prep the hair prior to coloring you will need:

a Chelating/Clarifying shampoo

Roux Porosity Control Conditioner

After coloring the hair, you will need to use:

a Clarifying or Acidifying shampoo

Roux Porosity Control Shampoo

Roux Porosity Control Conditioner

a protein deep conditioner (such as aphogee, mizani kerafuse, sebastian penetrait, dudley's drc28)

a moisture deep coditioner (such as neutrogena triple moisture, shescentit banana brulee)

Today, I'm going to be showing you how to do on beret, hair color on hair extensions, the ombre hair color is basically just a top and bottom color, but the difference between the top and bottom color and ombre is that the ombre hair color is actually. It starts off a darker color and gradually fades to a lighter color at the ends of the hair. The items that you will need our developer, I'm going to be using 30 volume cream developer for a higher lift. You will also need a hair, color or bleach. I'M using Clairol PW 2 bleach and you will also need your tint Bowl and your applicator brush for this video. I'M going to be using some Indian dreamy, kinky straight hair extensions. This hair has been previously colored with henna, so the results are going to vary from the results that you would typically get with hair that hasn't been previously colored. The results will be. The hair may be a little more brassy, but I just want to show you that this does work on hair that has already been processed. It will work on version here, as well as your own prior to coloring the hair. I want to make sure that I have it prepared so that the color will come out even and consistent and first isolate the hair with a leading shampoo and then I use rooper a CD control conditioner, which helps restore the pH of the hair so that the Color does take evenly and then I let the hair air dry prior to beginning the process. The first step is to make sure bleach, so I'm going to scoop some bleach into the 10th Bowl and then what I'm going to do is add some developer and I'm just adding the developer and mixing adding so that I, until I get the consistency that I'm Trying to get which would be like a somewhat runny pudding and continue to add developer until I do get that consistency, and now I'm going to be adding some oil. This is totally optional. This is not required. I am adding this for extra lift. If you do not have oil Lightner, you can always add a color booster or a blonde booster, and this is the consistency that you will want to have is something that is not too thick and not too runny, but rather creamy. Now the hair that I'm gon na be using, I am only folding these webs over one time. This is very important. You do not want to have the hair bundled up too much when you're doing this coloring process, because then you're going to have a very noticeable line of demarcation, so I've laid out my work area with foil. I have placed the whoops that are folded over in half on the foil and what I'm going to do is start applying the bleach at the very bottom of the hair. I'M only applying it maybe about two inches up from the very tips of the hair, and this is going to be our starting point: the lightest portion of the hair. This is going to be where we have the most lift and I'm going to continue on adding the bleach to the tips of the hair until I'm done with all of the hair, I then cover the hair with foil, to speed up the processing time. After about six or seven minutes less time, if you want darker hair, I check the hair to make sure that it is lifted to the desired color, which I don't want it to lift to a blonde. I just want it to lift a little before I start. Applying another layer of color about an inch and a half to two inches above where I initially applied the bleach. I'M also going to make sure that, when I'm applying this next row of bleach, I'm overlapping onto the ends of the hair, where I initially apply the bleach. This ensures that the ends are still processing and lifting, while the next layer of hair that I just applied bleach to lifts as well. This is what's going to give us the gradient effect or what is better known as the ombre color effect after I've applied. The second row bleach, I'm going to then apply my foils again to speed up the processing time after another few minutes. I come back and check to see if the color has lifted on that last row of bleach that I applied now, I'm going to go ahead and take the bleach up another inch to an inch-and-a-half, and you continue this process moving the bleach up higher and higher. As high up as you would like to go, so I'm applying and making sure that when I up the bleach, I continue to overlap from the top. Where I'm applying it all the way down to the tips. Because I want to make sure that all of the hair continues to process, so I'm applying a fresh coat of bleach along the entire strands of the hair. From the point where I'm adding the new bleach, I'm going to continue this process until all of the hair is completed, and then I'm going to go back over and what I do so that I do not have an even line across all of the hair. I go back over and I add a little bleach a little bit higher up just to random sections so that I'm not gon na have a blunt line of color that cuts across all of the hair. I wanted to have a staggered effect, so I'm gon na go back and add the bleach in staggered areas along the weft and each time I finish, applying bleach. I go back over and apply the foil so that it does help speed up the processing and now I'm going to go ahead and do my very last layer of bleach. This time I'm going to go up, maybe about an inch or less and half an inch or so, and this is to just help the color fade. This last layer bleach is going to sit on for the shortest amount of time, because I want this color to be closer to the natural color update and now I'm going to start with the longest length. The first piece that I did and I'm going to wash the hair with a clarifying shampoo and then I'm going to follow with the room, porosity cold shampoo, which helps restore the pH balance of the hair. And then I'm going to follow with ruber ASSA decontrol conditioner. To condition the hair and then I will follow with a deep conditioning treatment with protein and then a deep conditioning treatment with moisture. Now the hair has been washed conditioned and deep conditioned and then air dried, and you can see the results here. Sorry about the lighting. It'S not the best lighting, but you can get a really good idea of how the hair turns out. You can see that the color starts off dark, which is the hair's natural color and then fades a little bit lighter to the very lightest color at the very ends of the hair. You can see where there is the staggered effects. So there's no blunt straight line. Going all the way across the hair and just in just one color, and you also can see there - aren't any chunks or blocks of color on the hair. And so you can see here a much better view of how the hair transitions from dark to white. At the very ends - and you can also add a hair color on top of this, if you prefer a color, you can add something like red, pink purple: green blue burgundy, brown, old. Whatever colors, you want to add on top the bleach just lifts so that you can remove the pigment from the hair and then you can deposit any other colors you want to talk. You will still have that same gradient, ombre effect on the hair. You can see how I staggered the bleach when I was applying it, and so you can see different places in the hair where the color starts off a bit higher or a bit lower, and I will leave you guys with a little more of how this turned Out as well as some photos, and as always, I thank you so much for taking your time to watch the video. I hope you all enjoyed it. I hope you learn something from it and if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to comment on this video or leave me a message or shoot me an email. thomasadrianna: YESS MISSY BOSSY I been looking for a video like this FOREVER!! lol i think you gave me enough confidence to try this at home :) lol im so nervous haha THANK U SOO MUCH! :)

MsAries: woohoo! just got this done and i'm loving the ombre highlights. i can't wait to get it installed and look beautiful! thanks for the tutorial

Allisa Belt: Love this video! I've been searching like crazy to find a tutorial like this. Thank you!

Shae Nick: So far you're the only person i've seen that does this right. You do this in steps, not all at once. The various levels of processing is what makes the ombre. Thank you for posting this.

Alexis Hoffman: This is amazing I've been looking for this an this is the best one yet thank you !

MissBossyLIVE: I would start off with doing the bleach on the ends, move it up to the point where you want your brown (just like in the video). But at that point immediately apply black dye to the roots down to where the bleach stops. Be sure to apply it so that it doesn’t stop in a straight line.

TheLadyofLace: Thank you so much, I just wish I had found this video sooner. I just tried to do this on my glueless full lace wig and I have that line where the transformation isnt that good; but Im going to do it over and see how it comes out this time. Thanks again!

alison nowicki: wow, they came out amazing! :) good job and thanks!

Chanelle Monae: omg i love your tuts!!! just tried this on a small section of my indian hair because I didnt want to mess up all my hair. It came out so cute!!! thanks so much

DollFaceDeluxe: ive always to do this with extentions that i already have. and i FINALLY KNOW HOW to do it. Thanks, this was a great video...

MissBossyLIVE: @sweetypiesmc1 It depends on how you want the ombre to fall. If you want it to fall into a layered ombre you would do all of the lengths evenly. If you want it to all fall into one fluid color look then you can line all of the wefts up evenly at the top and then color it that way. (hope that makes sense)

MissBossyLIVE: If you want them light but not yellow, try adding a color corrector or toner to neutralize the gold/yellow tones

Funke Adefope: This video is fantastic thanks! How many minutes do you think you left the bleach on each section for as you moved higher up the weft? I just want an idea of the time difference for each shade.

MissBossyLIVE: @pheebsterz You can use plain blonde hair dye, just follow the directions the same. The only thing you will need to do is check the hair to make sure the color is lifting before moving up to the next section. And the Loreal blonde lightener is actually a bleach with booster so you will be fine :)

MissBossyLIVE: @funkeadefope Thanks! It will vary depending on the type of hair. I think for this hair I left the bleach on the ends for around 6 or 7 minutes then 4-5 minutes for each subsequent section

jeanie smith: You have the best one yet like the other viewer said ...so informative. From telling us to fold over once...on to the shampoo..Thanks

colakissed: Hello. What was your total processing time from beginning to washing? Thank you for sharing.

MissBossyLIVE: @taiiiiiiiiix Yes, you can do it on previously colored hair. I'd just remove the previous color or use the color wheel so that you use the appropriate color to get your desired results

Mindy: I'm doing this right this minute along with the video. superrrrr helpful

erin attwood: Thank you so much! Very helpful

MissBossyLIVE: @livelovelifeeat You can dye all of the hair a little lighter first then do your ombre. Just make sure to dye it to a color you will feel comfortable wearing. I am actually going to do a video on that this weekend, lifting the hair then doing ombre or color :)

MissBossyLIVE: I would stick with a 20 or 30 volume if you don't want to go too light. 40 volume works very quickly and may give you a color that you don't want

MissBossyLIVE: @MadameMisfitt I would bleach the length of the hair that you are coloring to the darkest color you want the hair to lift to. Then later go back and do the ombre on it with a higher volume developer. You can add a lightening booster if you want to go extremely light

MissBossyLIVE: I would do the blonde first, then coat the ends with conditioner/oil/vaseline and do the red. Do the red, then either dilute or mix with yellow to create a good red/copper color to fade into the blonde ends

Mrz. Harris: Thanks for making this video it was very helpful

2Chic: cute.can't wait to try this technique

MissBossyLIVE: thanks for the feedback, though I have never had an issue with coloring hair extensions. Good quality hair extensions fabricated from virgin hair are ok to color just as our natural hair is ok to color.

MissBossyLIVE: you need to remove the red with a color remover then bleach the tips with a toner that has an ash base. Then add the black without getting in on the tips. Coat the tips with vaseline first

MissBossyLIVE: @vettydwyer You would need to apply something like vaseline or crisco on the blonde ends to prevent the bleeding during coloring. Then start with your darkest color first and apply at the top. Then apply slightly ligther shaded down as far as you want the fading to go

MissBossyLIVE: bleached hair should not fade. You may need to deep condition it to restore the moisture balance

MissBossyLIVE: @heypauuuly thanks :) you would only maybe want to dye your own tips if your natural hair extends much longer than the beginning of the bleaching on the extensions. Otherwise you can get away without. It really will depend on how long your hair is and what look you want in the end

Lauren Kate: Hey, loved the video! i want to do this but i want a more blonder colour...do you recommend bleaching it twice, using a toner or buying a blonde hairdye? xx

Miranda Nwakah: so helpful :)

MissBossyLIVE: you'll need to do the same technique for the pink, color it in increments

hylyn: @MissBossyLIVE Thank you! Thank you! This is one of the best tutorials I've ever seen for Ombre hair so far :D

Hayley Christina: How long did you wait to wash the extensions after applying bleach? right away? or should I wait about 20 minutes?

MissBossyLIVE: @BeautyyIsTimeless You can use a blue base toner or get some Clairol Shimmer light shampoo or conditioner and let it sit on your hair for 5 minutes at a time until you get your desired color. IF you can find Red Out shampoo, that works 10 times better than the shimmer lights

Alexis Nicole: fantastic job!

MissBossyLIVE: @mrstawanna Gracias! That means a lot coming from the color queen!

MissBossyLIVE: @XxXAmazingXxX Yes, it will work. I posted a video not too long ago showing how to add the deposit color after doing the ombre with bleach. I think it’s called Teyana Taylor purple kinky curls or something like that.

MissBossyLIVE: @danceohyeah My best advice is to do a strand test on both your hair and the extensions. There is no other way to tell how the hair will turn out and how long it will take to process.

MissBossyLIVE: @ShawndaaDee You can use bleach only, hair dye only or both. It is up to you and the desired color you want

MissBossyLIVE: @KARMASULTRY1 I have. You can check it out in my high ponytail video. It's installed and flat ironed. If you condition and maintain it properly it should last just fine. This hair does shed though because it has poor weft construction, not due to the color

06whidon: hi, i really like this ombre effect but i have synthetic braids:/ do you know any products that i could use to get this effect on synthetic braids?

kush kupkakes: Great Vid really appreciate it, what do you think would be the easiest way I could do this on a lace wig

cherishdeb: this is nice and a good demonstration of the mechanics of dying hair but would make more sense to do after the hair has been installed and cut to the desired length

dymund72: Thank You! That was Great!

N'che U: Do you know what to do to keep the color from fading. I did this same thing the colors were beautiful and vibrant, but after like 4 washes the color had kind of faded?

MissBossyLIVE: @lammysheep12 Hi, these are human hair extensions. You cannot color synthetic hair. Developer is the lightening agent that activates bleach/color. It opens the cuticle of the hair and slightly lifts the color. When mixed with bleach/color it can lighten or color the hair permanently

MissBossyLIVE: You can just bleach the bottom piece following the instructions on my how to ombre video

MissBossyLIVE: @deliamary No I didn’t. The person who got this hair installed did not have to do any type of color to her hair. You can see the final install results on my High ponytail tutorial video. But ultimately, it will depend on how long your hair is and how low on the weft you start the color

Nora B: if you dye it blonde at the end, will it work? and would you just apply it to the ends?

kgaines167: Great video, u make it seem so easy.Where did u get ur products from?

MissBossyLIVE: @LENE2SWEET the hair used in this video is processed Indian Remy hair, not virgin. This can be done on any hair that is natural color. If the hair is previously colored then additional steps must be taken

MissBossyLIVE: thanks, glad I could help :)

Emy C: Also, if i don't want the ends to be so yellow-ish, can i reduce the amount of times i apply the bleach?

MissBossyLIVE: @honeyray1978 I wouldn’t advise it, unless it’s very high quality yaki hair. With most hair from the beauty supply, the bleach will strip the silicone coating on the hair and it will tangle & matte immediately

7siann: Brilliant video!

MissBossyLIVE: You need to use a protein treatment followed by moisture.

Eleisha Johnson: Does it have to be Powdered Bleach ? (first time dying extensions )

MissBossyLIVE: Was the hair already dyed? Did you bleach the hair or use a box dye?

Youngwiseoneforever: Thanx very helpful!

JazzMean83: I use 18 inch hair, would u use the same measurements for this length, as in your video

janvier426: After you installed the hair and styled, did you cut it? I'm getting some hair i purchased colored prior to installation and am worried that once I add some long layers the ombre would be a little off

MissBossyLIVE: @1mits1 Glad I could help :) Thanks for watching

MissBossyLIVE: @lovelyricos You’re welcome and thanks for watching :)

Brizanne Drysdale: can i use like a regular dark and lovely hair dye? & will it come out the same?

MissBossyLIVE: you can use a hair color or you can go over just the tips with bleach again (and deep condition after)

Emy C: Thanks !!!!! In the UK it is REALLY hard to find RGC freeman or Ardell... in other words, affordable ones lol

Korli Cymone: Can you use regular like Pantene shampoo to wash out the dye instead of the shampoo you bought ? and will it still work the same?

Sunye: How many grams are in each bundle?

S Nova: So for doing ombre with hair extensions (mine are blonde but im dying them brown with pink dip dye) should the bottom weft have more pink or can i do the same brown to pink ratio for all of the wefts?

MissBossyLIVE: @LovezLauren If you only use bleach, the color cannot fade. If you go over it with hair dye, then you may have to refresh the color periodically

MissBossyLIVE: @diablaatheonlyy I don’t have exact measurements, but if the hair won’t lift, it is either because the hair was previously processed for color or it has extremely low porosity. What type of hair are you using?

Lesedi Morren: Hi just wondering if these are synthetic extensions :) i think mine are synthetic so it would help if you could let me know :) thanx x oh yeah and whats developer ? is it bleach

MissBossyLIVE: @mandyxmonroe Thanks! I can't wait to see ;)

plddd1: Could I ombre and do highlights at the same time?

vettydwyer: How would you dye ombre hair on blonde extensions? My extensions are blonde, How could you apply the differen't shades of dark brown fading to light brown to blonde and also avoiding the dye "bleeding" ? xx

Shaneel Cole: I have the hair dye & the powder bleach & I'm wondering if I can just use those to do the ombré effect?

Chanelle Monae: @MissBossyLIVE yes im goin to do it all as soon as i get my closure next week!

MissBossyLIVE: @linzobadd Same way that is shown in the video. It will come out even if you apply it evenly

MissBossyLIVE: @june520111 I’m sure you can color it, but it’s probably not a good idea if it is not wefted. You will probably have better results if you do it while it’s in your head, but you would have to be VERY careful

MissBossyLIVE: @saturn273 Are those the hair tinsel? I have some of that. I may do a vid on how to add them to your tracks. I don't think they are very good for our natural hair though

MissBossyLIVE: yes, but it also needs to be uncolored

MissBossyLIVE: @hyperbolicable you're welcome, and thanks for watching :)

tabbs brewer: can you just use normal hair dye?

MissBossyLIVE: Thank you :)

MissBossyLIVE: @paigeahenry Yes :) The hair used in the video is human hair (Indian remy hair)

MissBossyLIVE: thanks for watching :)

itsactuallycat: I want to do this but i'm nervous that my actual hair colour will end up completely different to the extension colour.

kgaines167: Thank-you!

MissBossyLIVE: you will need developer in order for the dye or bleach to lift the hair color

EnKay1010: makes me wanna try!!..

Lashanda Glispie: glad to know the product ' to use when rinsing out the bleach , bcuz I used to use the wrong shampoo I guess bcux my extentions used to turn out dry and tangled

Shaneel Cole: Can u only use a hair dye to achieve the same look? Or do u have to use the hair dye & power bleach & creme developer?

MissBossyLIVE: I would not try this on cheap hair. It may strip the coating and cause the hair to tangle badly

Auntie: I never thought of this. Thanks for your comment. Good Point. You need to make a channel too girl!

FabulousNat: MissBossy! Which wholesaler do you use to purchase the indian hair?

Stephanie: Just wanted to ask if you could use premium plus weave?

1mits1: that was super helpfful thanks
