Temporary Hair Color On Thick Type 4 Hair | Curlsmith Hair Makeup Review

Hey friends! I tried out some fun new products from Curlsmith - the new hair makeup in the colors rose gold and ruby. These are temporary color styling gels that give you the versatility of switching up your style without the mess or damage of permanent hair color. Let me know which color is your favorite and if you've tried these in the comments below!

Also a side note: I realized it may be a bit confusing when I was explaining my application of the ruby color because you couldn't see what I was referring to and I kept saying "this" instead of specifying which color I was talking about (brilliant! lol) To be clear... what I was saying was with the rose gold, I applied it on freshly washed hair so the color may have gotten diluted a bit since my hair was wetter, whereas with the ruby my hair had dried overnight so the color was a bit more vibrant. Also the styling cream I used with the rose gold may have made it harder for the color to cling to my hair while the ruby had just the hair milk I used the night before which has already soaked into my hair. Hope that makes sense!

Hey y'all welcome back to my channel and thank you so much for watching if you are new here. Thank you for joining me and if you like what you see, please don't forget to hit the subscribe button down below and hit that thumbs up like button to. Let me know that you like this kind of content, as you can tell from the title and from looking at my hair, i'm playing with some temporary hair colors. So if you would like to see that then just keep watching all right, so the products i'm going to be showing you in this video are from the brand curlsmith, and these are the curlsmith color recipe, hair, makeups um and they are temporary color styling gels that Rinse out in one wash so i got two of the colors. There are five colors i'll put them up on the screen here, um, but the two colors that i got are rose gold and ruby. So this is what they look like, and so, if you're not familiar with curlsmith, it is a natural hair brand um. You can purchase them online and at ulta and they um they're, pretty much known for their clean ingredients and just kind of being really good. For your hair, they have really good ingredients. They are a little bit on the pricey side. So these two, this product is three fluid ounces and it's 19.99 for each of them, so a little pricey for how much product you're getting but um. It is kind of a fun little way to just test out colors on your hair or just if you're going out, for you know an event or something, and you just want to temporarily color your hair. It is pretty convenient for that. So definitely like that. Um, just to read a little bit about what it says on the back. It says this is a curl styling gel and a temporary color all in one. It'S like makeup for hair. It won't dye it, but just coat it with a vibrant pop of color. All the fun none of the damage so again like i said this is just a great way to just play around with color. So that's what we're going to do. I'M going to show you a clip from a couple weeks ago when i tried the rose gold and we'll talk about the application and everything with that and then i'll show you what i did today, which was with the ruby. So the rose gold and you know they have the same directions which say apply on damp detangled hair divide the hair in sections rake a generous amount through each section, then scrunch to help help curl spring back air dry or diffuse. Then scrunch again to break the cast. I don't do a lot of scrunching with my hair because i have pretty thick type 4 hair, so it shrinks up on its own, so i don't typically have to scrunch, but i did use my typical wash and go method. I raked it through my hair, i shingled in some areas where i felt like i needed it, and then i did diffuse with the blow dryer. Some of the tips it says are it says, to apply a leave-in conditioner before the color, to keep curls hydrated and to protect clothes with a towel during application. Um, for a more intense pop add a little more product once the color hair once the colored hair dries so um, i didn't actually read those tips. I think i might have like glanced at them, but i didn't really like read them well, um, the first time i applied it with the rose gold, so i did do a little bit of a better job. The second time i applied it with the ruby, but let's just go through each of those, so the first step is to apply leave-in conditioner before the color to keep curls hydrated. I did apply a actually not just a leave-in conditioner, but a styling cream under the rose gold. When i did this the first time i used the irish moss styling cream from nature's little secret, and that's just a really good styling cream for me personally, because it is moisturizing, and it also gives me a little bit of hold. So i figured if this didn't give me enough: hold um having that styling cream underneath would help keep the style um. I came to find out that i definitely did not need anything with hold. You just need something moisturizing, because this gel has amazing hold um and i feel like the more you apply, the better hold you're gon na get. So, if you're, adding a lot to get more color payoff, you're gon na get a pretty strong hold um. It does even give you a little bit of a crunch, which is why it says to scrunch it to break the cast. I don't. I don't typically break my cast because i want it to last longer and i tend to get frizz. If i try to scrunch it too much, so i actually like that it has a really strong cast. I think it did a really great job with that um a couple other things. It says it says to protect clothes with a towel during application. I just wore an old t-shirt um, the first time i applied it um and you can see in the video that it did kind of stain my shoulders a little bit where the my hair was touching um the t-shirt, but i did wash that shirt and it Came out completely on its own, i didn't have to do anything special, no pre-treating with stain, remover or anything. It just came out on the regular wash. So if you do wear like a regular t-shirt when you're applying it, it does wash out just fine, there's no staining or damage to the clothes. But it is a good idea, especially if you're going to be wearing whatever shirt, that you're planning on wearing for the day to just cover it um. This time, when i applied the ruby, i did cover it with another um t-shirt, just so that i wouldn't have any mess it does make it easier, also, so that you don't have to like take off and put on another shirt um, because there is a little Bit of transfer and we'll get to that in a second as well um, and then it does say for more intense pop, add a little more product once the colored hair dries. I didn't do that. The first time with the rose gold. I actually really liked how it kind of gave me a sheer kind of wash of color with the rose gold, so it just kind of looked almost like a rinse, so you could definitely see the color. You could see that it was rose gold, but you could also still see my natural hair color through it. So i kind of liked that, with this particular color, because it just gave it this kind of like sheen kind of look all of the colors are metallic. So they do have kind of a metallic finish, but this one just gave me that sort of highlighty kind of color that i actually really liked um. So i didn't end up adding any additional with this. When i did apply the ruby, i did add a little bit more after it was drying, because i noticed there were some spots and you could actually still see it. There were some spots here that i had missed or just didn't get as much of the color on so i did add more and you can see it here. I added more kind of up in here, and you can tell that it's a little bit more vibrant than the rest of my hair, so definitely a good tip. If you are looking for a little bit more vibrant color, you can definitely do that by adding more when it's dry a couple other things to note. So it does say it's for all hair colors and you can see on the back. It has kind of a little icon that shows um, what's supposed to be like a light strand of hair and then a dark strand of hair um. So that's just kind of telling you that it works on all hair colors, no gloves needed. I applied this ruby today and you can see there is nothing on my hands. It didn't stain my nails and i purposely didn't put any nail polish on. While i was applying this so that you can see that no staining around my cuticles, my hands are clean. Um doesn't steam your hands at all, and then it says it rinses in one wash um, which it did it did rinse out easily. When i washed my hair, you don't need any special sulfate shampoos or anything like that. It just washes out with your normal wash day and then the last claim it says, is that it's transfer resistant now this i kind of agree with in a way, so i do feel like the color does not transfer off on your clothes throughout the days. I ended up wearing the rose gold, for i think about three or four days, and i think the last day i had it up in like a twisted updo um. The one thing i did notice was that there was kind of glittery flaky fallout kind of similar to if you were to wear makeup right and you get some glitter fallout. If there's a metallic finish to the makeup or glitter in it um, they all do have that metallic glittery feel. So i did get some kind of flaky glitter um, which would just you know, kind of brush right off. It would be kind of on my clothes and i would just brush it off um. What was weird to me, so it didn't transfer onto my clothes but anytime. I would touch my hair and i'll see if i can show you right now. If i touched my hair and of course it's not doing it right now, but throughout the week i did notice and it might be because i was sweating or doing things yeah of course right now, it's not doing it um go figure. I should have taken a picture when i when it happened, but what would happen is whenever i would touch my hair um. The color would transfer onto my fingers and it was very noticeable like it looked like. I had just applied it. It was that strong on my hands, um, and so that was a little weird. It was only with me touching it. It wasn't on anything else, and that may just be because of the oils in your finger. Maybe it's kind of reactivating the product and then pulling it out um, i'm not noticing it as much right now when i'm touching my hair um and i do have some damp parts kind of still in the back yeah - it's not doing it now, but i did Notice that with this one, whenever i touch my hair, i had like rose gold fingers and i had to wash my hands again um. So that's one thing just to consider um they. It might be different with the different colors. This one i'm not noticing as much with the ruby like i'm able to touch my hair and not getting anything on my hands. I don't know. Maybe it was a fluke. Maybe it has to do with the fact that i had the styling cream underneath that could potentially have to do with that. The other thing to note is that each of the colors has um different extracts and like ingredients that have to do with the colors. So, for example, this one has guava pink grapefruit peach and rose the ruby. Has strawberry beet extract, rooibos and watermelon, so that's kind of cool that they included kind of those botanical ingredients that go with the color um rather than using like a ton of like chemical fragrances and things like that, you're getting you know very natural ingredients in here. They are free of sulfates, paraben, silicones, mineral oils and phthalates, so if you are curly girl, friendly or if you follow the curly girl method, these are curly girl friendly. They both have a very pleasant kind of fruity fragrance. I don't know if they smell the same. They probably smell slightly different just because of those extracts that are in there, but they do have a like a similar base. Fragrance yeah, i feel like they smell this smell pretty similar, but i can definitely get like hints of the grapefruit in this one yeah. They smell pretty similar um to me anyway, um but yeah, whereas this one has like watermelon, and you know i don't feel like it's like strong watermelon scent in this versus grapefruit. In this, they kind of have a similar scent um, which is a pretty um pleasant. Fragrance, i definitely like them they're, not too strong the difference in application between the two. So this one i had applied to freshly washed hair straight out of the shower um applied my styling cream, which was the nature's little secret one that i mentioned, and then i went in with this with the ruby. I actually had washed my hair last night and i applied a hair milk, so just like a leave-in moisturizer, i applied that last night and then put my hair and twist. So it was pre-moisturized, pre-detangled and then just put up and twist, and the reason for that was just simply that i was lazy. I washed my hair last night and didn't feel like styling it. So that's the only reason i did that, but i did end up using a leave-in instead of a styling cream. Since i figured out from this one, i don't really need something with hold under it. This by itself has enough hold, so i did just use a leave-in with this um. So when i did go to apply this, my hair was less wet than it was when i applied this. That also may have helped a little bit with the color payoff, since it does tell you to do it on damp hair and not on like soaking wet hair. I did re-wet my hair because it was pretty much dry from washing the night before so i did. Re-Wet it with water, but it was just damp. It wasn't soaking wet the way it probably was. With this um i didn't use a spray bottle when i was applying this, but again i had just washed my hair, so my hair was still pretty wet um from the shower, so i definitely think that made a difference in the application, because, obviously you know more Water, it is gon na kind of dilute out the color that you're gon na get um, i think also the styling cream. I had diluted out a little bit with this one. I do feel like i used a lot more product. I don't know if it was because my hair was more dry, but i do feel like i have a lot more left in this one than i do in this. One um - and i also applied more after it - had dried, so definitely used up a little bit more of the ruby than the rose gold. But overall i like both of the results. This is what my hair is looking like completely dry and it does have. It gives me a ton of definition. It does have a lot of hold like there's. Definitely a crunch um. So if you don't like crunch, you can definitely um scrunch it out. I even tried with the rose gold. I added some oil on top just to see. If that helps with the transfer situation on my hands um, it didn't really make a difference with the transferring it still was giving me kind of that rose gold sheen on my fingers um, but i did feel like it kind of softened, my hair a little bit And got rid of some of that crunch. So yeah, that's, i think, that's it. Let me know if what you guys think about these temporary hair color gels. Have you tried them yourself, which colors are your favorite and if you haven't tried them, are you interested in which ones are you interested in trying out there's a really pretty blue turquoise color? That, i think, would be awesome, especially on like lighter hair colors. I think that would be gorgeous um. This rose gold also, i think, would look really good on like blonde or light brown hair um. It looks great on dark hair as well, but it just would get that extra kind of pop. That, i think, would be awesome on kind of a lighter hair color but yeah. So that is my review of the curlsmith hair makeups really like them. I think it's a fun product just to try if you're, just playing around with color and um or even just going out for an event or for halloween or something like that. It'S just a great way to switch up your style and not have to commit to anything which i absolutely love.
