Brazilian Blowout for Biological Hair

The hair salon: a place women and men go for a bit of pampering and professional hair analysis. But, though it is a time of pampering, that doesn’t mean it isn’t also just the tiniest bit nerve wracking. You approach the chair, and you begin to feel a cold sweat run down your back. There are so many questions spinning in your head, but out of fear of being judged, you don’t dare to ask them.

Before I ventured into the beauty community on my own journey of discovery of what beauty was to me, I noticed that there is this preconceived notion that asking questions or trying something you have never tried before can only be met with negative judgement or make you look foolish. But now that I have been in the world for several years and have made contact with quite a few MUA’s and hair stylists, I know that this simply isn’t true. My hairstylist and I start every appointment by discussing new treatments or styles I have heard of and whether she thinks if they would work on my hair.

Brown Layered Wig

Something I tried about four years ago for the first time was a Brazilian Blowout. Though many women know this phrase, they may not be exactly sure what the treatment actually does. Below are some of the most asked questions my stylist told me she receives regularly about this treatment.

“So… What is a Brazilian Blowout?”

A Brazilian Blowout is the only smoothing treatment that can be customized. Now, what does that mean? You can choose if you want to keep curl and lose frizz or to achieve a sleek and straight result. Known for significantly reducing drying and styling time for up to 12 weeks, a major benefit of this treatment is that it is finished at the salon with no "down" time. This means you can leave the salon and immediately wash your hair, exercise, put it in a stylish ponytail or clip without having to wait days to do so.

“Do Brazilian Blowouts Even Work?”

According to the website of Brazilian Blowout, the treatment works on different types of hair, especially those who have coarse and damaged hair or hair that has already gone through colored or relaxed treatments. It will enhance the look of your hair, eliminate damage and make it healthier overall.

"Should I Get A Brazilian Blowout?"

– If you have a naturally curly hair and you want help in minimizing the frizz, this treatment improves the natural curls or waves of your hair.
– If your hair is straight yet frizzy, these enhancers can repair the damages while bringing out the radiance of your locks.
– If you are donning a wavy hair, a Brazilian Blowout can give it a beautiful transformation to make your hair look more naturally straight.
-- If you're a naturalist and just want to reduce your shrinkage, this if the treatment for you. It allows for flexibility and keeps your shrinkage at bay while keeping your curls defined. Yes, you will have to straighten your hair for this process, but the results are fabulous.

“What about Keratin Treatments?”

Keratin treatments are similar to Brazilian Blowouts in the treatment they provide. But, most people prefer Brazilian Blowouts as they take less time - around 90 mins compared to 2-3 hours - and last much longer.

“How Much Will All of This Cost?”

Depending on the stylist, these treatments cost between $200-400. Though this is a steep price to pay, I found that, for me, it was completely worth it. I’ve had frizzy, unmanageable curls for many years and after I found this treatment option, it has saved my hair. After the first treatment, I didn’t expect it to last this long. The standard shelf life is 12 weeks or around 3-4 months, while mine lasted almost 6. This cut my spending hundreds of dollars on styling gels or other treatments to almost nothing, meaning that I had the money to spend.

This is a luxury treatment for most, but if your biological hair is in disrepair, even if you only do the treatment once, you will see an amazing transformation that will change your hair’s health for the better.
