How To Put Your Hair In A Bun

This video is from the Infinite Motion Performing Arts Academy showing how to put your hair in a bun for dance recitals.

I'M going to demonstrate how to do the classic ballet bun, it's the hair that students will wear when asked for performance. You can start by wetting the hair and you're gon na slick it into a high ponytail. You want to follow the line of the jaw, and the cheekbone now put your elastic in as tight as you can wrap it around as many times as you can, depending on the texture of the hair, and you want to match your band to your hair color. As best as possible, you can shampoo the hair the night before or for naturally straight hair. You can wet it right before you put it up and just make sure you smooth down all the flyaways, especially concentrating on the hairline and around the nape of the neck, where all of the hairs fall out when during movement you're going to lightly spray, the hair Smooth it with a fine-tooth comb, you can also use a pomade or a gel smooth it over the top layer of the hair, and that will also keep it nice and neat and clean for the stage we're gon na. Take your ponytail give it a light spray. We'Re gon na begin to twist it in a clockwise motion. You do not want to twist it too too tight, because, as you can see, you don't want it to look like a knob and then it won't hold as well so loosen it up. Give it a loose twist gently start twisting clockwise around the hairband loosen it as you go you're gon na twist it like a Cinnabon and tuck the pieces right underneath I'm gon na hold it in place and what you're going to use for this you're gon na Need about four hair pins, not bobby pins, and you would also want those to match the color of the hair. You don't want to put them in straight. You want to lift them up and slide them in with a twist in towards and underneath the hairband again you're going to slide it up. Flip it and push it in under the band can smooth as you go. If anything comes out more hairspray, the better. What you're gon na get now is a hairnet. They come in blonde. They come in light brown, medium brown and dark. You want to match your hairnet to the color of the hair, with the elastic you're gon na put it over the bun you're gon na. Do a figure eight flip it around as many times as necessary to get that bun, nice and secure feel free, don't be afraid to move it around now, because once it's in place, it will stay you're going to take about four more hair pins and put them In the corners of the bun make sure they go underneath that hair elastic nice and tight, if you feel more comfortable using bobby pins, you can put the bobby pins and also just make sure they match the hair color and they are kind of hidden underneath the Bun so they're not visible from the stage. You can smooth up those little wispies one last time and if you feel the need you could take the bobby pins and you're gon na put them in the X in the back of the head slide them up. They'Ll hold those little either broken hairs or shorter layers towards the back of the head, just crisscross them. You want the straight edge of the bobby, pin against the scalp and a little more spray, and there is your classic ballet bun.

kami ll e: When I did ballet, my bun was so insanely tight with spray/gel and infinite bobby pins. After the performance or lesson, removing the bun removed four years off my lifespan, and hours later I’d still find bobby pins hidden in my hair.

Cupcake Pheonix: "don't use too much spray.." *like 5 mins later..* "the more spray the better."

M H: If i tie my hair like that I would have a headache for the next ten days..

Ruby Lace: Thank you for explaining why my bun looked "knobby", no other bun tutorial I've encountered explained this!

Garren doodles: I thought the hardest part of ballet was the dancing. Turns out it was the putting up of the hair that’s the hardest part. The more you know

Diede: 3:07 “the more hairspray the better” imagine having to take that out at the end of the day...

я: I don't like hairsprays. It makes my hair very dry

MyaMG: To everyone who is saying “omg it’s so tight” or “omg that must hurt”, yes I does hurt and yes it’s tight we get it but for dancers it has to be like this for recitals and I know because I am a dancer... I state my case

Anna H.: Was very helpful; thank you.

vivian c: She is pulling the life out of her hair

Shay Taylormade: Thank u so much I actually did a bun for the first time

Rix xy: It's like watching someone get tortured. A labor camp sounds to be a better option than sending your child to this Academy.

「Scarlett」: Oml imagine taking that off..

c h e r r y,: "Lightly spray the hair" *sprays almost whole bottle*

_rubs.10: Person : “...... and you just wanna give the hair a light spray Me : Oh my god, that’s near enough the whole bottle!

LxnaKxtty MSP: You don't need that much hair spray. It's bad for people who are still pretty young

Brittany Robles: that girl does not look happy

Saima Raza: eight hair pins with two bands?? seriously ? thats too much of pain for the small bun.sorry for the girl . ponytail was freakin tight.

Izzy Spint: DO NOT tie back wet hair like this, especially not tight. Hair is more elastic when it is wet and when the hair begins to dry it will lose the elasticity and will then snap under the force its been put under, or or pull the hair out at the root which is even worse cause it can cause lasting permanent hair loss.

Zoe Porreca: “And to hold it you’ll need 4 hair pins. Not Bobby pins” *Takes out a Bobby pin* Also when she put the rapping thing on the bun, it made it ten times worse

Faith's Animals: Woman- "make sure no one can see those Bobby pins" Me- "yah really think everyone can see it?!"

LivingxPrime: Ef this serenade to a headache. I prefer just making a significantly looser ponytail, flattening strays with a touch of gel, tying a ribbon onto my ponytail and using that to wrap up my hair. I can be have more control over a ribbon without feeling as if I'm tearing hair off my scalp. To each their own!

Princess Mary Playz Roblox: i used to dance when I was about three and stopped dancing when I was I think 8. I was very painful. Especialy my hair. I pulled and tugged and i almost got brain damage. I feel like the buns and hair shouldn't be SO tight.

good Job: With THAT much hairspray, she won't need to make the bun again..... it will ALWAYS stay as a bun. Too much hairspray works like glue

slimershine slime: I do this myself and it actualy wont hurt youre head if youre used to it

LilaTheGotchaTuber: Im so happy now I cAn pUt iT iN a BuN

Desirsar: A bit late to these comments, but... This video assumes you know how to brush anyone's hair into that high pony and skips showing it... If my wording of that sentence seemed weird, that's because the title of the video is wrong - this is how to put someone else's hair into a bun. Seeing an angle to approach and how to hold the brush for my own hair, never mind putting it up, would be helpful. The odds of me ever needing to know how to do it on anyone else is next to zero.

Lexi Weems: this bun is not tight. I'm a gymnast and I still don't know how to do a good bun lol

Mr: Lady:put in a silk ponytail Me with my curly hair:urrr urrr is the silk enough

Lmel: i think it was a very simple tutorial hair bun but after i see this video and i realize that this tutorial using a lots of pins so i move on HAHAHA
