Hair stylist to the fashion elite George Northwood gives a masterclass in putting hair up into a bad hair day bun, by Susannah Taylor.
Take a comb and lightly backcomb all of the roots throughout the whole of the head and spray some Redken Style Connection Quick Tease 15, £11.85 (http://bit.ly/1qYuNM7), into the roots.
Next, make sense of the mess by lightly brushing over it with a Mason and Pearson Brush, £39.50 (http://bit.ly/1s6I9s3) and continue to lightly spray with Redken’s Quick Tease.
Then, like a plait, divide the hair at the nape into three sections, take each section and roll it up into a bun or messy knot and secure it in place with a pin. The keys to using pins successfully to secure hair in place is to firstly put backcombing into the root then use a product such as Quick Tease, which acts as a pin cushion for the pin. When you’ve got the hair where you want it, secure it and go down and back on itself with the pin to secure it in place.
You may be left with hair reminiscent of an older lady as it’ll have a lot of width on the sides. Smooth the sides back and pin into place, keeping them really tight.
Finally, take some Pureology Colour Stylist Strengthening Control Hair Spray, £14.25 (http://bit.ly/1sotxhO), over the hair.
George’s top tip for achieving this look is to not over think it. Be playful and let your hair get messy, while keeping the sides quite tight. Experiment and enjoy!
