Hello, I'm Marc Weiss, hair and makeup artist in print fashion, entertainment here in New York City. I'Ve had a lot of questions of people asking me. Do I color before I do a perm, or do I perm before doing a color to me? It'S just like that question: what came first, the chicken or the egg, the actual answer is going to be. You want to do your perm first, then you're going to color. The reason for this is because the perm has the hydrogen peroxide in the neutralizer. If you put that on to your hair color, the hydrogen peroxide, which is also into hair color, will actually separate the color molecules within the hair and will start lightening your hair and that's something you don't want to do. But then also in addition to that, when you perm, the cuticle layer is already open, and so you don't actually need to use a permanent color unless you have gray hair, but the semi-permanent after doing a perm will actually help it stay a little bit longer and Get it a little bit further. A semi-permanent is a stain along with a color that will get into the cortex of the hair, and you will have a much vibrant, longer-lasting color. Thank you. I'M mark Weiss, see you soon. You
