Styling Your Wig in Under 5 Minutes

Low Wrapped Pony

 
With wigs, it’s best to opt for wigs with lower density. Higher density wigs tend to be too thick.
 
Before starting your ponytail, ensure your wig cap is secure. If you happen to have a spare wig that is a bit loose on your head, don’t attempt a ponytail with that one. A ponytail can cause your wig to ever so slightly pull back and you don’t want a loose cap for that.
 
To help keep a secure fit, consider trying a product like the Wig Secure by Amy Gibson. The WigSECURE is a comfort wig liner that relieves pressure point pain and helps secure your wig.
 
How To:
Gather up the hair and secure it loosely near the nape of the neck with a hair tie. Be sure to leave out a section of hair.

Once the hair is tied, take the leftover section of hair and wrap it around the ponytail to disguise the elastic. You can secure this with a bobby pin.
If you want, add a fun headband or other accessories to dress up the look! 

 
Half-Up Ponytail

As you can imagine, the half-up ponytail is very similar to the low wrapped ponytail. The main contrasts are how much goes into the ponytail and where the ponytail is located.
 
 
How To:
Determine how much hair you’d like to have in the ponytail and gather that amount from the front of the wig. Try to stick with a small section. A paddle brush can make this step easier.

Secure the section into a ponytail near the slightly below the crown of your head.

If you’d like to dress up your half-up ponytail, add some wave or ringlets with a curling iron. Before using any heat tools, ensure your wig is made with human hair or heat-friendly synthetic. We recommend keeping the temperature of your curling iron below 350 degrees. A thermal spray never hurts either.
 

Variations on the Pixie

Don’t worry - I haven’t forgotten about short hair! If you’re rocking a pixie, a ponytail or updo isn’t in the cards. Luckily, a pixie is incredibly versatile and so easy to style!
 
Sleek How To

Using a paddle brush or similar, brush the wig gently.

 

Place a small amount of styling product in your hands and rub together. I like the Shaping Creme by Beautimark. 

 

Run your hands down your hair, slicking back the strands.

 
Messy How To

Like in the previous method, use a paddle brush on the wig.

Use a styling cream or gel. Squeeze out into hands and rub hands together.
Run your hands through your hair. Instead of slicking back, however, gently muss up the strands for that flirty style.
 
Styling a wig can truly take less than five minutes. With that kind of speed, there’s really no excuse to not style your hair! Well, at least that’s what I’ll keep telling myself.
