Professional Tips For Curling Your Hair When It’S Growing Out

Hey elite pros crystal here from elite haircare, usa, elite total body care and private label hair care company. So today's video is going to actually be about the finishing style. My client here comes in once every week to two weeks to get her hair either shampooed or sometimes would do a touch-up, but she has been growing her hair out since her first appointment with me. We'Ve actually cut her hair multiple times, so we molded her using our elite silk, wrap foam, so she is completely dry, but i wanted to give you guys something different and also talk to my short hair people out there in regards to styling your hair. Now she actually typically gets a very soft style. She doesn't like holding spray, but she has a lot of density in her hair and she is also relaxed. So who said you can't have healthy hair and be relaxed at the same time. Her first time coming to me was a couple of months ago. Her hair was breaking, it was shedding a lot and we cut her hair, and this is where we are, after doing a number of cuts since then, and she's decided that she wants to grow her hair out into a bob. So that is what we are doing now for the curl. I did apply our first hammer and shine serum. Definitely when you are working with short hair having that that oil, or even that um balm or grease on the hair, definitely helps with the finished style, and it also helps the iron to glide a lot better on the hair. So this video is really all about pro tips and techniques and just styling in its entirety. So whenever i'm styling a short style, i always typically start right between the occipital bone and the crown of the head. This reason for me, starting in this area, is because, when you have clients that have what we call a graduated cut, where it goes kind of from short to long or it goes like my hair, where my hair gets longer towards the face you do want to Create that um atmosphere of graduation - i might have used the wrong word for that, but you guys get exactly what i'm saying um, so her hair was actually cut in that fashion as well. Now, because she is trying to grow her hair out into a bob. We are eliminating cutting her as much possible at this point, so a lot of the styles that we do are typically more on the curly side and the wavy side. So for this part of the head, i'm actually using the h2 pro 3 10 of an inch iron. This is also what we call the pencil iron. This iron is good for detailing it's great for short hair. It is one of the skinniest flat irons that they actually make on the market at this very point, and it's also ceramic, so this iron is actually available at elitehaircareusa.com, as well as all the other ions that you guys are going to see me using today. Now, what i'm doing is creating a wave, but we did not actually wave her hair. So this is also something that you can do with just heat styling tools, especially if you have a shortcut or if you are in the grow out phase like her. So that was another reason why i wanted to do this video, because a lot of you are dealing with something like what she's dealing with where she is in the grow out phase and basically she still wants a hairstyle, but she is growing out the shortcut. So there is an in-between and the in-between is basically having a lot of density or a lot of volume. The in-between is having a lot of manipulation and moving hair in different places so that it will mimic a short style with it being so long. So, with the in between phase typically at this point, people usually say: i'm gon na cut my hair off. This is also the point where people say you know what i'm just going to cover it up, but she's embracing it very very well. So we are just doing some waves and curls on her and she actually loves having a lot of density in her styles, so this works really really well for her because she likes that fullness. She likes that body. She likes that density, so i don't have to worry about trying to make it super flat or super neat, and she also likes messy styles. So this is my easy client when it comes on to curling and styling her, because i just basically freehand and do whatever i want to do in regards to the style itself, and it always turns out really really nice and she wears these dense styles really well. Like really well she's super pretty, so she can wear almost anything you guys. Okay, black does not crack. Let'S just say that, okay, so the iron that i'm using now is the 7 10 of an inch iron. This iron is actually not available on the site yet, but this is the next size up from the three tenths of an inch. It'S not a half an inch iron. It'S a little bit bigger than a half an inch iron okay. So this you can kind of see it's like three quarters of an inch. This iron is also good for detailing it's kind of one of those awkward irons. Because, honestly, if you don't have a shortcut like her, i wouldn't necessarily recommend this iron. If you're going to need an iron for anything longer than her hair, then i would say just go ahead and use the one inch. I can also use the one inch and achieve this look on her as well, but i like the tightness of the curls. So that's the reason why i decided to use this iron instead, but definitely my go-to's are the three-tenths and the one-inch all right. So i am now going to the other side of her head. If you guys notice, whenever i am um curling, especially for clients like with haircuts like these, i go from right side or middle to right, left side, and then i finish the top, and then i go back to the left side. My reason for that is i don't like lines in short styles, i like to remove any form of line that i can now. What i'm also doing is because i know that her hair is so long on the side right near her sideburns and her temple. I'M actually doing what we call a 3d wave and a 3d wave is where you create a curl, and then you use your comb and press it in, and then you use the flat iron and create a ridge on the curl, and that in turn makes it Look like a flat wave, but it looks like a wave, that's popping off of the head. That is why we call it a 3d wave. You guys have seen me do this on live, but it's kind of hard to describe without physically showing you um, really really up close, but 3d waves are also really pretty um. Do they last very long, not really, because once you lay down on them, they're no longer 3d, they become flat. So it's it's really a good style for something that, if you're going to get like go to a wedding today or tomorrow, those those work out really well, but other than that you guys, i am not a fan of waving just so everybody knows i'm real straight To the point waving does not last to me um it's one of those things where it needs to be for a style that you are wearing today or tomorrow, but don't think you're going to have longevity with that sound, yet to see someone that their waves can. Last two to three weeks like never ever okay, so what i'm doing now is curling her crown with this type of style. You guys there is no uniformity to how you curl the hair, like the curls can be any and everywhere. Why? Because you want to create that look of just curliness, just body just volume messiness, but still still sleek and cute at the same time. So that's the reason why my curling direction is changing all over in the crown, because that is how this style works. You don't want any form of um uniformity. That'S that's a good word to use. You don't want any uniformity other than on the sides in the back, because of no, of course you know if the sides in the back aren't laying in a certain direction. It looks weird, but in the crown, because you're creating that curl look, your curls can be in any direction you want, and they are all going to melt together, really really well. Okay, but for the sides in the back, definitely make sure that you are trying to keep your direction because if you curl the wrong way, it's going to be very hard for you to go back and change that later on now, let's talk about her aftercare at Home, typically for her hair, you just put your scarf around the sides her, and i have actually never talked about how she keeps her hair so well, but because she likes that volume in her hair. I am going to assume that she really just puts a scarf around the sides in the back and then she gets up in the morning and just kind of fluffs it out and goes on her way to work her crown area. You don't really have to do. Much you can pin curl the crown or you can just leave it, as is, as i said, she does not wear a lot of um products on her hair. In regards to like holding sprays, i actually don't use any on her unless really really necessary. Now, once i'm finished curling her at that point, i just kind of do what we call finger styling, just to kind of move, the curls around fluff the hair up a little bit and then, from that point on, it's just teasing well, not even really teasing. I really would just use the rat tail comb or the rake and just kind of lift up the curls, but i don't comb them out. I don't run the comb through them a little too much, because you want to keep that shape, and then i just use my fingers and take some of the lines out lines to me in a short style. Do not go together unless it's a forced look or it's a part of the look me personally. I like everything to melt together as best possible now, if you're new to my channel, don't forget to hit that subscribe button.
