Maintaining Your Hair Extensions - Soft Bond Strands™ Hair Extension Care

I have been wearing and maintaining my own extensions for 10 years now. I've gone through the problems of tangles and even, in the early days, some

matting with a previous method I wore, necessitating the removal of some of my hair extension strands.

With my product, wearing and maintaining your extensions is very easy to do and knowing what is happening on your head can save you from problems later on.

It is important to keep your soft bond strand extensions free of tangles at the attachment point and toward the scalp.

As you wear and wash the extensions, your shed hairs, instead of being caught in your hairbrush or the shower drain and anywhere else you are when they fall from your head, now remain in your bonds.

This hair is sloughed off at different times, thus resulting in different lengths which tangle around each other, twisting the strands together and with each other. You will want to pull those apart, probably weekly, to keep your strands growing out nicely.

Not maintaining and keeping up with the small tangles can lead to larger less manageable ones later on and sometimes necessitates removal of the extensions sooner than you would like.

If you are washing thoroughly at your scalp and using my silicone-free shampoo and conditioner as instructed, on and all around each of your attachments, you will have an easier time keeping your strands tangle free. That means you are using plenty of conditioner at the scalp and attachments. Do not skip the conditioner, you will have too many tangles as a result.

You should never sleep with wet or damp hair, this may cause terrible matting. Don't tie your hair up while it is wet, this may cause terrible matting. Always dry your hair loose. After washing, a quick zapping of the hair dryer at your attachments will help them dry and you can still let the rest of your hair dry naturally. Since the hair covers the attachments, the air flow is limited and your attachments may stay wet longer than you would wan them to. This is especially the case for very thick hair and thick hair installs. For you, it is important to do this partial drying technique after washing. Get things dry underneath and at the attachment area and then you can let the rest of your hair dry naturally if you like.

Be sure to run your fingers through your hair, at least weekly. Ensure that you can feel your scalp and get your fingers to run in between your bonds and through the length of your extension hair.

If, for any reason you cannot get your fingers through your hair, from your scalp to your ends, or you feel a large bunch of pressed-together hairs, larger than an inch that you are unable to de- tangle, then you may have a matte developing.

If you experience any matting remove the extensions in that area and brush out the matting. Letting this go, could mean more problems for you as time goes on. If you experience matting, come in immediately, if you can. If you need help and cannot get to us, any stylist should be able to help you. It is never necessary to cut or damage your hair at all.

Tangles and mattes can be removed successfully, and with patience.

Another thing you’ll want to pay attention to is the shape of the attachments. While sleeping, attachments can become flattened, and vulnerable to shedding or loss. You will want to gently roll the

attachment back into a cylinder shape for their strongest and most secure wear.

Be sure your hands and fingers are clean and free of oils or lotions when maintaining and touching your attachments. And only handle your attachments like this when they, and your hair, are completely dry. The best method for maintaining is to detangle, wash, allow everything to dry and after a day or 2, then roll bonds that may have flattened while sleeping and such.

If you are taking on the responsibility of wearing extensions, you must accept the work of maintaining them. This will give you the longest, most comfortable hair extension wear. When taking advantage of maintenance appointments please be sure you come to your maintenance appointment with clean, dry hair. If you question the build- up or cleanliness of your extensions, perform a vinegar rinse prior to your appointment. This is done by using a white or cider vinegar mixed 1 to 1 with water and pouring the solution through the hair at the scalp. If you are sensitive to the vinegar, mix 2 or 3 parts water to 1 part vinegar and rinse well afterwards. Perform a wash with my Just Clean Hair products and feel free to condition heavily at the scalp and around the attachments. Just be sure you rinse very well.

Now you’re ready for your maintenance appointment. You will feel really refreshed afterward.
