How to spot a wig

We are so lucky that the wigs available nowadays, look incredibly natural and truly realistic.
Here at Simply Wigs HQ, we strive for our customers to look good & most importantly to feel good about themselves.

My name is Emma and recently whilst I was consulting, I found that I was being asked more and more, am I able to spot a wig? There is no concrete answer here, as each individual person looks completely different. Even when they have the same wig on. In answer to these questions though, I thought I would put pen to paper and write down some pointers which may be food for thought.

Spotting The Signs:

First wig give away: Too perfect

If a wig looks too perfect, it can look wiggy.  When you receive your wig and take it from the box, shake it. Then shake it again. And then shake it again. Take a look at the fabulous video that Lizzie did, which explains what to do when you take your wig out of the box, for the first time. Wigs will look fabulous if you have tweaked them to suit your own particular features. Do not be scared of styling it behind your ears, or perhaps popping a kirby grip in at the side. Play around with your style with your fingers, until you feel comfortable with your look. You can not break a wig. (You can though frazzle it if you use heat on a synthetic style, so possibly you could break it in that sense!). It never fails to surprise and delight me, how the same wig can look completely different on different customers. Do not be afraid of making the wig ‘your own’.

Second wig give away: You dare not move your head

Wearing wigs is not just about how you style your look, but also how you ‘wear it’. By ‘wear it’ I mean, how you hold yourself when wearing a wig. If you hold your head in an unnaturally rigid position, it will look wooden. If you are holding yourself in a stiff position because you are scared it is not secure, then call our offices and we can chat through any concerns that you may have about security. You should feel comfortable in your wig and be able to move your head without any fear of it moving. If you do not feel confident, it may be to do with sizing. Call us here at SW and we will do our best to help & advice.

Third wig give away: Too much volume

All of our collections have wigs which vary in density. We speak to lots of customers every day, and one of the main concerns is that some of the wigs have too much hair. Our advice is to look at the Hand Tied wigs. These wigs have a lower density, than wefted wigs and will not look as if you suddenly have masses of hair. As each knot has been individually hand tied, they will move more naturally aswell.

Our philosophy here at SW, is not to settle for a wig that you do not feel comfortable with. Our team firmly believe that there is a style out there for everybody. A style which you will feel relaxed with. Wigs are advancing all of the time, so if you are not wearing your dream style, then contact our expert team and we will do our very best to find you, your look for 2017.

Be and feel fabulous.
