Jessica just purchased a Freedom Wig, and wants it trimmed a bit shorter. In this video, Rochelle will show you how to trim a layered wig, which she will demonstrate on our Freedom Wig. She will show how to trim bangs, how to thin out a wig, how to make the back shorter, how to shorter the layers and more! Here are a couple important tips she shares as well:

1. Before trimming your wig, be sure it is on straight!!

2. Never thin out the top crown area of the wig; always go right below the top area.

3. Little changes can make a huge difference.

4. Cut slowly and cut less than you think; it won't grow back!

Hi everybody, i'm rochelle with godiva secret wigs and this is jessica and what we have on her. That she's just purchased is a freedom in nutmeg f, and i want to show you how little changes can really make a huge difference in customizing, a wig, so freedom, the colors, nutmeg. F, you ready. Okay, so do you. I have your permission just to do whatever i want on this. Okay great, so i know jessica likes her wigs or her hair. Sometimes super short. So i'm going to end up just thinning this and making it shorter, but we're going to start with the bangs and start around the face. So right now, i'm just looking to see what side um i'm for those of you that don't have a lot of hair up front or very fine hair. You can have a habit with your own hair of bringing too much forward like from where you would put a headband, but the illusion with the wig is that you have enough hair. So i'm going to suggest that you move a lot of that hair away and just start at the bang right here. So we have our bangs on most of our wigs too long for a reason, and that's because everyone has different size, foreheads, some real short, some real tall. I have a high forehead. So this way you can customize it or take the wig to a hairdresser and they'll just do some little trimming and make it look perfect for your sweet face. Okay, so jessica, i'm just going to start lower longer than we think, but i want the bangs out of your eyes and i can see with this wig that it needs a little rounding out of the bangs. So before i go further, we sell our hot roller brush and i just keep it moving and i'm just slightly rounding these out holding the ends to curve it in. Can you see how that just slightly rounded it a little bit okay and then, if i want to just make this a little bit flatter, i can just hold it there a minute, but just simple little things make a huge difference with our wigs all right great. I like that better now, so the way i trim is, i kind of jump around and i'm not a licensed hairdresser and for me, after wearing wigs for over 40 years, i'm not looking for a precision cut, i'm looking for a visual cut, because this wig is Always going to look like this, just like my kelly, is always going to look like this and all of our wigs hold their style. They'Ve got what we call memory curl so and in your own hair, like it's, never like even the day after you leave the hairdresser, it's different, exactly that's human hair, and that's why i i've never chosen a human hair wig. I should say i had one and i never. I never wanted one again, because i have to deal with the human hair, like with my own hair where's, the condition you've got. Kids you've got a busy lifestyle right, so it's just fun and quick. So i want to show you first, i'm widening this out to open jessica's face a little bit, and here you know i just look. I trust myself and if you have a hairdresser, you, like you just do a little trimming so for some people i'm going to turn you a little bit. You just stay right where you are, freedom can be a little too long or any wig may be a little too long for you, but proceed slowly, but on this video, i'm just showing you how little changes can make a huge difference. So i'm picking hair and i'm just cutting it up into the hair to even make it a little piecier and a little lighter. So i'm going to move this and i'm working below so i never thin up at the crown i thin under the crown. So let's say jessica and i agree which i don't think so, but i'm showing you for the video that this is a little too thick and i want to make it a little bit airier. So i'm using my thinning shears, the smooth side goes down. I take a little bit and i just come right as close as i can to the root and one cut and here's the hair. I got out of one cut, that's a lot yes, and so now you see the the uh the smaller teeth to me. Keep it looking natural - and this is the thickness that i'm using of the teeth here. So i just wanted you to see that so, yes, a little sometimes right around the ear, it can feel thick. So i'm only doing one clip at a time to open this up. Let'S say down here: it's a little thick see so clip and pull clip and pull only one clip only one. You know little clip and then you look, but i don't ever thin up here, because we don't want to see any shorter hairs or anything like that. So, but like right here, i'm going to lighten it up just a little bit and when i say lighten i mean thinning. Some of you have very thin or fine hair, and you don't. You know the wigs feel bulky on you, but not to worry when you're with a hairdresser someone you trust, they can do all the trimming and get the job done. That will flatter you, the most. So let's just see a minute here, yeah i like this. It'S laying flatter a little flatter right here for you, so i'm going to turn you this way a little bit so normally the way our wigs come in you'll see the way the part wants to go. That doesn't mean you can't part it the other way. So many times i'm just changing my part, especially with a new wig. I want to see what it will do and many times some. You know many wigs, sometimes i'll wear it one way, the next time. I wear it another way, but look and see the part. Don'T choose based on what you're used to, because that's with your own hair so think about how does the wig look best so right now, i'm just going to make all this a little bit shorter, so i'm kind of doing a pull down pull down and you Know if you're uh a little a little while, like me a little bit of a risk-taker, a little rebel, then you may you may try it but um. Some people don't want that. So i'm just taking some of the bulk off this. I see the bangs are still in your eyes a little bit there we go. Oh there, we go there anything in your eye right now, that's pretty good! Okay, as you blink, we will be able to see. So, let's take a little look right here. This looks a little heavy to me and actually i love my freedoms. It really doesn't, but i want to show you i'm kind of gearing this video towards the woman that thinks her. Wig is a little too full, so i've clipped away from the top, and i'm just going right under here - i'm going to clip one time and pull away and it makes a tremendous difference. You won't see where i clipped at all, because it's under all the top hair, but the wig will lay closer to the head. Yeah love that so let's say we want to go a little bit shorter on freedom. I want to show everybody now: here's the wow yeah right awesome. It'S laying! I hope you can see that it's laying so much flatter and, of course, work first around your bangs around your face, because that's what changes most so fast and jessica could actually wear like. I do many times any clients, you can wear freedom or many of our wigs, all behind your ears and it's great, and so now it's not puffing up as much and sometimes there's um, which one do i wear and i put it behind my ear and my Ear kind of folds forward a little bit, and so this yeah that's very flat so just little by little trimming and i'm just going to get in here and just chop a little bit. I know some of you adventurous ones like danny, jane out there she's a wild one and she's gon na play with trimming, especially if you have an old wig before you give it to the kids or let the dog play with it. Work on trimming it. You know so by making this shorter, i got some more height up here. Can you see that and it can still lay flat, but if you spritz it like i'm going to do in a minute, you'll see it'll pop up. Some of you really like that. Let'S get my water, i love spritzing, my wigs because they get a piecier look and personally that's something i really like. Okay, let's just do it because you see the little difference that it makes. Yeah that's gorgeous. So again i haven't trimmed anything on mine, yeah, yes, and so look at now. I'M still going to make it a little flatter, but that pieciness of it and then say you, love that and the roots come out a little bit more. When you do that, right right, the roots show up a little bit. More so say you love this look, some of you, you don't brush your wigs all the time you want it styled and you leave it alone. So, in that case, just close your eyes a minute, i'm just going to do a few spritzes, but with our low alcohol hairspray, it's got a high water content and so it's less much less damaging to the fibers and even on our own hair. It'S fantastic for human hair, so it smells fabulous. Doesn'T it so good? So what i love to do because there is more water content. So please, with the low alcohol hairspray like our keep it there do not spritz it and then put your hands all in it. Spritz it and then let it dry and then you'll have that pieciness so first use your water and then your hair spray to kind of set it up. If you like that, and so that's a great way, so i'm going to work on the back a little bit. Sometimes although i love it but boy, you look like me from the back. Can you just look straight ahead there, so some clients will say i don't want all this. I don't want all the sticking out. I want it to lay flatter, so you can easily just take these little pieces again on the diagonal and just cut it. So it's closer in to the head and all you're doing is cutting little pieces, and maybe you don't want the neckline this long. So again i would start in the middle and i'm just trimming not just across never across but on the diagonal, and i'm going to make this quite a bit shorter. So you can see how great it trims up. So here i haven't trimmed it, and here i'm going to keep going i'm kind of pulling down with my nails because little hairs can pop out and we don't want an extra little odd piece to be sticking out when you're out with friends like that. So i'm going to try and get it all so. Here'S the hair, i have not cut shorter yet and it's really so much fun to trim a wig and it doesn't take a lot of time and you just proceed slowly. So maybe jessica doesn't like this little round curl around the ear. So again, i'm just holding the hair i'm going to lighten it up and make it a little bit shorter. My fingers tell me when i'm done yeah cute and not to say that our wigs need trimming. They certainly don't, but it's all about making it, how you want it so see that piece we're going to get rid of that piece and i'm going to make these a little bit shorter. So this is, these are great tips also for women, older women and the wig is just too much hair for them. So i'm just lightening it up another fantastic thing with trimming this much off like the um, how the wig sits on your head, like you can't you still can't see the it looks so natural that you can't see where it's on your head. Does that mean you can't see where the work was done? Yet you can't see like like the oh, the wig part. You know yes like it looks. It looks so natural true, even with cutting all of that off, but it still looks glad you said that yeah great great point so now we're much shorter for freedom all the way around. I i still love it. I think it's great so cute, and so let's just keep going a minute and let's say we want to take this a little bit shorter, i'm going to keep some long pieces and i do a little trimming and then i stop and have a look because i, My fingers can want to go too far, but this is pretty darn cute right. Oh, i love that that's way cute. I like i like what you did with the back. That looks cute. Thank you so right here, let's just see, do you like this little piece? Okay, i'm just going to clean this up a touch, and you know for those of you that you show your ears. Please don't leave a whole bunch in front. It starts to look like a wig so take from the top here. Take it to the back and leave just a little bit now jessica. Has her hair right here too, and that's fine, so little wispies. I just want to show you on me too, because, as i'm looking, you know i can with kelly leave that and to me it just looks like a lot. You know what i'm saying you like it yeah i like how it frames your face. Okay, so we have our personal styles for me. I i hold here and i put it around my ear, maybe because i have a cute pair of earrings on it cute. You know i like just a little less right there, so yeah both look great thanks. Let'S see making sure nothing in the eyes: oh yeah yep yep. Yes, so let me just turn you around. So here is a trimmed freedom and i trimmed it pretty short. I could still go shorter and i have on clients, but this is just a very light. You see how it lightened freedom up for those of you that want a little closer, so don't be afraid to go to the hairdresser, and you know ask for referrals if you don't know one of of great hairdressers and try them out. But if you do have them trim, don't make them responsible for putting the wig on at the hairline and at the tabs, like you be responsible to do that. First, because if she didn't do it the right way, then she's trimming the entire wig and then every time you put it on it's going to be a little like this and that's going to really bother the heck out of you. I think for me like i'm. I would be nervous to do it because i wouldn't want, like the wig part, to show you know, and but you totally can't like it's totally. No, that would be my worry. But yes, i mean you took a lot off and it still looks fabulous. Yes, it's just fantastic. I have to keep looking and i could go much shorter here. I could go shorter, all the way around, but uh. I think this is plenty and for you to just wear it and enjoy it, and jessica can always come back to me when she's more clear on okay, i want a little more done here, but yeah. I think it's perfect, and that comes too, like you said after wearing in a few days and you like, oh yeah, this is kind of bugging me so yeah it takes a little, but once you wear it like yeah now, would you wear it shorter in the Back, i can't see the back. Oh, you don't have eyes on the back of your head now. You know, i think i'm gon na leave it right now. But oh something in me. I want to take a little bit more, so i am, i am doing it. So some of these long pieces, i'm just going to make a little bit shorter, so i'm holding the piece and i'm going almost straight up yeah. I like that, so it's more to spin it than to it's it lightens it up. It makes it airier and a little bit shorter too i for some clients. I have taken freedom to about one inch, all the way around. Oh wow, and it still looks great. You know it's still, it's just a tremendous wig and really fun to trim. So all the wigs are and just keep in mind. Ladies. It takes very little trimming really to make a great difference so there we are awesome, a trimmed freedom. I hope that helped and if you have more questions i hope you'll put them on the comments below and you know we have over 400 videos, they've been awesome, good and there's tutorials, so many that danielle does an amazing job and we keep trying to answer all The questions you have and - and i hope we're doing a good job for you. So thanks for watching and thank you jesse, thank you. So much is so fun talk to you soon. Bye,

Lori Fodor: This video was so helpful and timely. I went through all my wigs trying to decide which ones to give away. I never liked my Freedom because it is too much hair. Now I know what to do and if I do a good job, I will keep it. Thank you for posting.

B. Moore: Another great and helpful video. I never thought of cutting bangs at a 45 degree angle so I tried it on my Christi wig whose bangs were a tad too long and now they look much better. Thank you! Your model looks gorgeous! Two beautiful ladies. :-)

Jeannie Deal: EXACTLY what I needed to see!! Thank you!! Looks great!!❤️

Patty Gibson: Well job Rochelle!! You made it look easy to do and I will have to try out my skills on some old wigs. Jessica is a cutie pie in her new trimmed Freedom. That color really suits her complexion. Take care

MDE JHE: I appreciate this video. I am one of those 'older women" who like less hair. After seeing how I can trim Freedom to my liking and still have the cute style, I am considering buying Freedom. I also appreciate the suggestion of using a old wig to practice on. Thank you.

Glenda Verrett: What a difference a trim makes on the Freedom! Now I’m leaning towards this one for sure to purchase! Thank you for the video!

Karen A Cox: New follower. I’m loving your videos and all of the information you and your daughter are giving. What a cute wig on her, and the cut made a difference. I love yours too!

Linda p.p.: Great video, and on Freedom, exactly what I need to do with my short neck! Thank you. I love this wig but have not been wearing my newer ones because they are too long. Jessica is CUTE!

3eugenee: Great tutorial! There was a closeup early on of actual cutting….more of that please! Thank you! ❤️

Jean Jacobs: Greetings Rochelle! This was so helpful! I did keep holding my breath as you kept trimming! Lol! But it looks great. Love and blessings ❤

Holly Kay: Thanks, Ladies! I've learned so much about trimming my own hair and my wigs from Godiva's Secret Wigs! ♥

GoldenHoneySilk: Rochelle you always do a marvelous job on the wigs. I think I've seen all you videos. take care!

Rita: You always do a great job! I loved seeing you cut a wig. Thanks for showing it.

Karen Baumgardner: I was so surprised she didn't pick the long haired style she loved! This one looks adorable on her

Kathy Bennett: What a great video!! Good job trimming and styling. Thanks!!

Sonny Ryan: Very beautiful wig, lady and job you did cutting her wig. You’re an amazing lady Rochelle. ♥️

Rita Weygint: I’m going to have to try this with my Freedom! It’s just too bushy for my narrow, petite face. Need to use the hot air brush to tame the bubble top, too!

Amber Khechari Maria: What a difference! Ro, you did an amazing job for sweet beautiful Jessica! My latest is Darma--soon to be on the way! Oh--In Dark Chocolate! BTW, do you also carry thinning shears on the website? i don't see them listed. How to suggest trimming razor cut bangs on a wig? My Courtney's bangs are a tad too long...i have a small forehead.

Miss Jackson: My Kelly wig was too "apple heady" on top. lol. I did buy some thinning scissors and thinned it out on top. It's perfect now ! $13 at Walmart!

ANGELES FELIU: Fantástico!! Me encanta

Ginger Reid: This helps a lot! I love my Carly wig I just got...it is a LOT of hair and I have a tiny face...I worried since it is a one length cut (bob), I couldn't get it thinned...oh I wish you were here Rochelle! I will have to ask my hair dresser, but if she is too nervous to cut/thin a wig, will call the consultant I found not that far from me...if she isn't comfortable doing it, perhaps she knows of a hair dresser who can make it more "me". Hugs! Looks great and wonderful job!

fitzhugh2002: Gee Jessica looks SOOO CUTE !!! She has helped me in choosing what wig I want to buy & also what color. Thank you both❣️❣️❣️I having been trying to figure out these two things for over 2 months . When COVID-19 hit & the beauty shops had to shut down I wasn’t able to keep my died hair color. So I had to let my hair grow out. That was NOT Pleasant for me. To my Shock-it came in as white as Casper the friendly Ghost !!! My husband likes it but I hate it. I am Thankful that I have hair.Still today when I look into a Mirror I think who is the elderly lady looking a me ? I alway’s had med. brown hair with blond highlights. Rochelle I hope I am choosing the right wig & color . Freedom Nutmeg /F. I just want to feel like myself again. I sure wish we lived close so I could have you cut my hair & have a Wonderful, fun wig party. Rochelle any comments or ideas on the choice I have made? I LOVE YOU & Danielle . Your Videos are fun exciting relaxing and very educational. I honestly feel like you both are part of my family .By the way I just turned 68. MAY OUR LORD BLESS YOU BOTH, YOUR FAMILIES , & YOUR BUSINESS AND KEEP YOU ALL SAFE. Looking forward to your other videos. Have a wonderful weekend ❣️Love to my 2 BSF .

DannyJane: Hi Ro! I'm ready for my Monday Godiva Goodness and of course you didn't disappoint. I think we're connected on some psychic level. You actually made me BLUSH! Yes, I do run with scissors where my wigs are concerned. Most especially if for some reason I can't return a wig (OOPS! THE TAG CAME OFF!) I've even taken them apart and switched out part of one wig for another. But sometimes a wig's salvation requires more than my limited skills--or perhaps the wig means more to me than my eagerness to experiment. So here you are showing the magic of what a professional can do--and just a few days ago I trooped over to visit Julie, my hair goddess and favorite magical being, with four wigs under my arm! Not one of them looked BAD, but all of them could look BETTER. Certainly better than my mad scientist approach could do. When she's not busy, Julie loves to "play beauty parlor", meaning she has a client who doesn't tell her what to do, but instead trusts her eye, her skill, and her many years of experience. One of my wigs, London, is a stunning pageboy wig that must look amazing on a taller woman, but for 5'1" me just refused to lay properly in the back. Julie, like most fae, will grant wishes if you offer her the right bribe. "Can you fix it?" I cried, waving chocolate under her nose. With a wave of her scissors London's back was shorter, the sides blended into a slightly steeper angle, and the bangs no longer blinding me--things I could never do for myself (apart from the bangs--which I do all the time!) since I can't see the back of a wig when it's on! It's still recognizable as London, but it's London for DIANE. A bunch of gossip, laughter, and fun later all my wigs--which had already been beautiful--now were beautiful for ME! One was razored into a choppier top, another snipped into a great boycut, and all of them making me so happy. The thing about wigs, Julie reminded me, is to keep in mind that each snip is FINAL! So a stylist has to cut MINDFULLY. Please give my love to Jessica. I'd love to meet her someday. Be well, Joygiver, and be safe!

C Flyzik: This was great and so helpful. Please do one on trimming a medium topper. I bought one a few months ago after a Christie topper was too short but I haven’t worn the medium yet because it’s too long! Help.

Gail Walton: that looks fantastic...I need to get a wig holder to be able to trim mine....I have the exact wig and you do GREAT with them Ro...

Kathy Scott: This is great !! I myself have ruined wigs that did not have bangs and I tried to add them .. The bangs did not behave at all the way I thought they would ...They refused to lay down even after trying to relax them with a hot roller brush ... so I now buy wigs that have bangs already or dont add them if they don't ... THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP ;] K

Ken Million: Looking forward to seeing more creative videos like this one cool video

Sheryl T: What a big difference -- looks fantastic!

Sue Box: Loving the trim!!

Joanne Agee: I love your wigs! However what is holding me back from buying one is that I have purchased 3 wigs in the past from HSN and QVC and they were awful and I returned them. I feel I need to try several on before buying the right color and style. I am convinced after watching many of your videos that I could find the perfect wig and that having it trimmed to my face and neckline is a real must for me. My question is where can I go to find a brick n mortar store? I live in Arizona. Thank you for all your helpful videos!

Ms Dixie: Really cute. No one would know it’s a wig. Great video!

Sandi Browne: What a great video. Gosh, the wig looks terrific on her. And of course, Rochelle you look great, too. It's just not fair! Someday I'll have one or two or maybe 10!.

Stacy Joura: Thank you! This was very helpful!

brooks269: Fabulous tutorial!

Holly Peterson: I so enjoy your channel! I have a question about trimming the Freedom Wig as compared to a. Lisa Wig. . Could you get the same look using a Lisa wig as trimming the Freedom? Would love to see the two wigs side by side.. Thank you for all you do!

Yvette Ratson: What a fabulous colour on her and is that ever a cute style for her as well, love it

Camille Bujeker: Good trimming on freedom…Looks really great!

Debra Bumgarner: Great information. Love that Freedom. Love the color! Do you both have on Freedom?

Moya Cruz1969: you did a good job,she looks beautiful...

Kathy Solomon: You ladies are looking great! Thanks!

marlene kerrmarlene: you sure know how to handle all the wigs , very professional

jackie myers: That looks great!!

Jackie Porter-Teare: Looks great. She’s such a pretty model!

Sherry Lee Perdue: How would I cut this to make a topper ? Can you make a video doing so? Thank you

Ajay Varma: How you cut it she looks gorgeous

Mary J: Rochelle, do you ever travel to Minnesota? lol I would love to have you trim my Freedom wig! :) But thanks for the tutorial, anyway.

Studente Studente: Awesome ❤️

Greenleavesofsummer: How do u keep ur wig on w/o grip, Rochelle? How do you keep the wig down at crown?

Margo Sugitachi: Where did you get that big pink clip that you always use???? Thanks :)

Celine Lopez: once upon a time there were two Karens. One Karen helped the other Karen go from Karen level one to super Karen 3000

marlene kerrmarlene: sure looks natural , cute

Ana Sanchez: Es una pena, son tan bonitas las pelucas y sientan tan bien que no podemos hacer pedidos por no haber nada en español. Las miro y las miro pero siempre me quedo sin poder hacer pedido..

gtinsa: This was fun to watch and Jessica looks great in the wig, but why not just buy a shorter wig in the first place?

Ott Gavras: ❤️❤️

Schlep: Good job

JMK: Nice to see Jessica again.

Sharman Klinefelter: i love your light blonde wig whicj one is that
