Hi everybody welcome back to Tessa's wit, closet. This is TAS. Did you just get a brand-new wig, bring it out of the box? Put it on and you absolutely love the style but hate the shine will take heart. You don't have to send that wig back. We can fix this excessive shine on synthetic wigs is just a consequence of the color blending process, the finishing process of the style. So I have noticed that on blonde wigs the shine tends to be more glaring and I think that's a combination of things. I think that the color compound and the application process of the color may impart some shine in particular on the blonds, but not limited just to blonds, and also most manufacturers will use a silicon, a topical silicon on the fibers before they ship them out. And that is going to create some shine as well. So never fear if you do get a wig home and you love the style, it fits perfectly and it's beautiful, but you're not real. Keen on the shine. I think we can fix this. I am demonstrating on the Henry Margaux Harper in the color 614 gr. I own this in a couple of different styles, this color and a couple different styles, and always this color comes just a bit shiny right out of the box. I'Ve been able to correct it and really really enjoy this color. The last thing we want to do is walk out in a wig and it's spotted as a wig, because it looks like baby doll, hair. So there's a few things that you can do once you've decided to keep the style. You can immediately wash and condition your wig and let it dry you might want to do that one or two times and the shine will dissipate it will dissipate. If you do nothing at all, but wear it after a few wear is you'll notice that that shine just continues to dissipate, and that's because some of the friction, the wear and tear is rubbing off some of that silicone that they use in the manufacturing process. There'S a few tips and tricks that you can use the number one thing you probably all heard this before, but use some dry shampoo spray. So what it is, it's basically just talcum powder that coats it coats the fibers and reduces the reflection off of the color and off of the silicone, because really it's the light. That'S reflecting off of the fibers that give it the shininess. Let'S try to treat the left side with some dry shampoo, so what I like to do is spray it on scrunch it in maybe get some of those under layers, I'm having trouble breathing when I apply dry shampoo. I generally like to go in the other room and hold my breath for some reason. This stuff just really makes me choke and it smells wonderful. This is the batiste dry shampoo in cherry flavor, but it does still. It gets in my lungs and just really irritates gum. So let's try again trust me when I say this is the hardest thing to do in front of a camera, because you've got a like a one bite or two bite to little viewing window here. To see your progress, so here's the side that I treated here is the site, that's not treated, so you can see where I think that the shine is has abated a little bit on the side that I have treated, don't you and this will kind of tide. You over until the shine of the synthetic fibers on your new wig, have kind of dissipated due to wear and tear on shorter, wigs with a lot less surface area. You can do a really quick fix and everybody everyone probably has some in their purse. That'S a little bit of a sound foundation powder here with a like a pillow applicator, so you can always apply some foundation powder to the strands and, like I said, a little bit too much surface area here on a longer wig. But if you had a shorter one, you could just Pat it in, and I typically do not use this method. But I know a lot of my friends that have and they've had a lot of success with this method as well. You'Ve tried washing it and letting it dry you've tried using some dry shampoo or some valid foundation powder and you're still noticing some excessive shininess. Let'S try another method to help reduce the shine on your synthetic wigs. It'S a baking soda bath and I'll demonstrate for you here and we'll kind of look at the before and the after results as well. But baking soda is just basically a salt, okay, sodium bicarbonate and it's the exact same thing that they used in water softeners. To make your water real soft and it tends to strip away dirt and oils, and things like that, and that's probably why a lot of people use it in their laundry is to get a better clean. So if you know your wigs are not going to be harmed by the baking soda, so you know whether you're measurement of water, baking, soda ratio is exactly like mine or not no worries. So a few things that you're going to want to have right away are gon na, be some baking soda, any old, all-purpose baking soda any brand will do. I also have a measuring cup here. This is a half cup measuring cup. I have some genre. No synthetic hair shampoo, I also have some synthetic hair conditioning spray and then I have a bath towel here for when we want to tamp down and and get the water out of the wig. So the first thing you want to do is just make sure if your wig is not brand new to go ahead and brush or comb it out a little bit just to separate those fibers. We want the baking soda to reach all the surface area of those fibers that we can we're going to lay it down into the sink Basin. With the cap side up we're not going to turn it inside out we're just going to go cap side up that way. All of the hair fiber is going to be soaking in that solution. I have a very shallow trough style sink here and I'm not sure how much water it holds, but we want to use really cold water for this process and so just just to be on the safe side. I let it run for about a minute. The city for that it's really cold so once the water is really cold, go ahead and step up your sink now you could also use like a dishwashing pan or a basin for this as well, if you're not comfortable using your sink, and I'm going to measure Out about a half of a cup of baking soda and then remember your baking soda isn't going to harm the wig. So if you're fearing that you have too much in there, it'll be fine it'll just be really soft. The water will be really soft and you may have to rinse a bit extra if there was a little more than you needed, but don't be afraid to use it. But when the head and put the baking soda in the water and what's the cloudiness is kind of dissipated and there's nothing, that's gritty or granular in the water is then you're going to submerge the wig. Now the water is going to feel very soft, it almost does slimy feel to it, and I don't like that. Word slimy, but it kind of has that slippery feel and that's because of the baking soda and that's perfectly normal. So I'm gon na place my wig submerge it into the solution by pressing it down I'm going to resist any kind of swirling motions, I'm not going to be swishing this, I'm just going to make sure that all of the fiber is covered by the baking soda Solution now I am NOT going to put shampoo in with this. Some people use the method of baking soda and shampoo. I like to use just the baking soda and then shampoo afterwards, because I want all of the action on the baking soda initially to reduce the shine and we're gon na soak this you want to give it at least two hours. If you can try to let it soak for at least four hours and if you leave it in a little longer than that, it's not gon na hurt a thing we'll be back in a little bit. I'M back we're in Harper that we washed in a bath of the baking soda and water, to help reduce to try to help reduce the shine so we're here to kind of evaluate whether it was successful or not. I think it has been quite successful. Actually, I hope it's coming across on camera, but what I'm noticing is that the gold, the pale gold in this color, was actually the shiniest of the two colors that they blended it with, and I think that pale gold is actually a lot less shiny. So there's still some shine left to it, but it's not a glaring, babydoll, hair kind of a shine. It seems to be a little more muted, a little more of a creamy blend of those very pale blonds be the judge. So I consider our experiment a success and it just goes to show you that if you get a brand new wing that you love, but it's really shiny, there are some options and solutions. Everybody have a great day. See you next time on Taz's, wait, closet, you

NearRiver: My cosplay wig was very shiny and this video helped so much! I also absolutely love your energy

romantic horror: Terrific video! So glad to see such great tips to reduce that shine. I wear mostly blacks and dark brown, and colored dry shampoo is a standby. The baking soda bath helps too. I've always used woolite for cleaning, mixed with a tablespoon of baking soda. Been wearing wigs for 25 years so I might know a little about this stuff. Lol. Awesome video as usual!!

o3MTA3o: I mix a little fabric softener with a bunch of water in a spray bottle for a quick spray once it's washed and dry. It helps with static too.

Sage: Hello to the Cosplayer who googled: ways to make your wig less shiny

Leaf is Vibing: Thank youuuuu.... I’m into drag right now, and the only wig I have is horribly shiny. It sucks so thanks so much for this

Ms7of8: I've been wearing wigs for years and wash my synthetic units with Woolite and for the "conditioner," use unscented fabric softener. The dry shampoo and the baking soda technique(s) for reducing shine really work. Thanks for another enlightening video, Ms. Taz !

Nani Womack: Wow more realistic looking! I so appreciate this because I haven’t worn a wig that’s so cute, but it looks like a wig. Until now. Yay Thank you again

Jackie Marsh: Loved this view Taz!! I use all of the tips you have showed us, and they are Wonderful!! Such a difference it has made in my wigs!! I just love learning so much! Thanks again Taz, for an Amazing video as always!! LoveXOXOXO

Emmalee Kennedy: I’ve had one for 6 years and it’s still shiny and I’ve tried all these multiple times.

Rona Jessee: That's excellent, Taz! You can really tell the difference! I use the dry shampoo, but I'll tell ya, I may use this technique on some of the shinier wigs I have that which dry shampoo doesn't work too well with! Thanks!! Hope you had a great Sunday!! : )

Caite Smith: I'm new to lace front wigs and I LOVE how informative you are about your wigs. You are now my go-to guru for wigs!

nico: the dry shampoo and the baking soda works amazing ! thanks for the tips.

Gerri W: Thanks Taz. I wear dark color wigs and they can really shine. I used dry shampoo for brunettes but I can see the film on the fibers. I’ll have to try the baking soda rinse. Great tutorial

cinnie2: Yes, definitely less shine on the dry-shampoo-treated side. I had to laugh with sympathy about your reaction to the spray. I do that too! And also with room freshener! :)And I thought after the baking soda rinse it was less shiny also, and fell more naturally too. Very informative video. Didn't know that about baking soda=salt and that dry shampoo was basically talcum. Thanks!

Liz Lyons: No question, you tamed the shine by all three methods -- it is quite obvious in this video and you made it look so simple. I like the baking soda bath. I wish I had known that shine would dissipate, when I first started wearing wigs. I gave away a few simply because they were too shiny and now can see that was premature. That said, I got a JR silicon spray to put on the heat friendly wigs to protect them each time I wear them and before putting them away, so I guess we add and subtract that coating as we need it. Funny, the silicon treatment does not seem to add shine, for some reason. This was helpful, especially for people who don't realize the shine is not a permanent problem! xo

Lexii Maid: This worked wonders on my wig. It was just from party city and this took out a lot of the shine. Thanks for the tutorial

Christine Zwicke: One word: WOW! Love your videos. So well-presented and packed with high-value content. Thank you, TAZ!!!

mitchelltrio: Thank for the information, including a heads up regarding inhaling the dry shampoo. I have asthma, and am glad to know ahead of time that I should be careful. Also: Cute kitty tail cameo appearance near the end.

Michele KT: Wow! Big difference after using the baking soda. Thanks for the tip!

猫耳外国人オリちゃん: Thank you so much for this! I got synthetic extensions for pictures and it looks specially shiny on camera

Sweater Weather: Thank you so much for this! You’re so helpful

★Sexy Hair: Thank you for sharing this video & your eloquence on giving helpful tips on this common "problem" w/ synthetics :-)

Zee Elle: Thank you sooo much! I just purchased some faux locs- they are beautiful...~but shine-Neee!!! Your wig turned out great! I’m going to try your methods and let you know which one worked best for me!

Courtney McGuire: That is a huge difference! Such a beautiful shade of blonde!! How did you get the Harper to lay flatter? I saw your previous reviews of this wig and it was definitely big Texas hair. Looks amazing laying flatter. I am interested in purchasing the wig.....especially if i could get it to lay flatter like you have it here. Love your reviews! I am very new at this and your videos have been so helpful to me!!

molliewongful: Oh Taz, you are just adorable. I’ve been watching your videos for the last 6mnths trying to work up the courage to buy a wig. Well I did. Today I went to the mall in Kristen, JR, Shaded Praline. I could of wept tears of joy from the sensation of having hair again‍♀️‍♀️‍♀️ Bless you for taking the time to film/upload your videos. Judging by-the many, many comments (I read them all!) you have touched SO many lives with your kindness & generosity of spirit. I’ve learnt from you how to measure, pick a style/colour from all your wonderful comparison videos. The shine I knew how to disperse, despite gasping when I first put her on. I live in NZ so it is a bit of a gamble having them shipped here. You are an angel

Julie Howle: I came to this video looking to reduce shine on my cosplay wig but omg I love you and your energy

Fiona Jourdan: Hello beauty, I have done your hack today, i was scared that it will hurt my wig but it did not. I follow the correct way as the tutorial and it works soooo good. The wig I treated is ciri's one And it make the sine disappear and also make it softer and easier To brush. I think I would do this for every wig I will receive soon Thank you

Kathryn Cairney: Great tips, Taz. I hadn't heard of the baking soda bath so it's good to know.

chris smilley paul: I like energy and enthusiasm you have when demonstrating,, very confident ,

Debera Crabb: Great job Taz you can really see the difference thank you for the tip

Nancy Ellen: Looks great! Noobie to wigs here...need all the teachings I can get. You are very good at teaching!

Lorene: Fantastic tutorial Taz This will help me sooo much!! Thanks

rhondalyn134: Always love your tips and tricks videos...thanks so much! :-)

ERICA B: I just love watching your videos. When I wear my wigs I always hope they look as good on me as yours do. Thanks for sharing

marshafisch: I am new to wigs! Thank you for your video! This will be very helpful!

Patty Carosi: Hi Taz as always very helpful tips for us with are wigs. I have used the dry shampoo. I will try the baking soda I really could see the difference. Thank you very helpful.

Cindy Ellis: Once again you have really given us excellent information and advice. I absolutely LOVE to watch yourself videos. You are so sweet and intelligent and a pleasure to watch.

Eileen Langdon: Hi Taz. Just to clarify one of your suggestions. I don’t think foundation powder is used, I know my foundation powder has my skin tone as it’s color. I believe what is suggested is the clear finishing powder...I might not be calling it by the correct name, maybe it’s called setting powder? ...but it is colorless.

sdraper2011: So helpful! I love your tips.

Caro Corazon: Excellent, it worked on mine

Angie Wilson: Great ideas. I like my old wigs best - but they are wearing out and I buy new ones - they look so synthetic. Question at or just before 4:07 on the bangs. I don't do lace front, glue, etc. - allergic. I struggle with the bangs - keeping the volume in and them (no matter how many videos I watch about this - I've tried a lot), one turn, and you can tell it's a wig. I need the bangs or it looks even more fake. If you have any tips/tricks about bangs, I'll love to hear them. I do notice in my higher priced favorite wig, it's better. But it's dark, and I bought some cheaper ones (Paula Young) with highlights - much better for my face and to avoid the Loretta Lynn thing as I have fair skin. But, even with heat resistant fiber, teasing, curling, blow dryer, a little mousse - flat bangs. I want to try some more sculpting cremes - the ones I used on my own hair to do the short touseled look - they are super sticky. Could I try that on a wig? I know you can't guarantee no damage, but your thoughts would be so helpful. Also - any suggestions for brands to buy - I can't buy 300 wigs. But you may have tips on that tool The Paul Young is pretty - just can't figure out the volume part and I think with your tips, I can get the shine out of it. Sorry so long - thank you! I wish it were winter all year long - turtleneck hides the neck wrinkles - which are also a giveaway. I can't believe I am so worried about all this at age 58. It seems ridiculous - but that's our culture, etc. and I lost a lot of hair on one side of my head after menopause - it's never grown back and it's probably because I fell and had a concussion on that side - it's just not able to make "good" hair on that side. Again, sorry so long. Yours if the first channel that I've seen that looks like you've seen it all and then some! Thank you!!

Soozi LaSarge: Thank you so very much. This was so very helpful. Blessings

Elizabeth B. In Texas: Excellent demonstration on how to get rid of, but without ruining our beautiful wigs on what I call, "that give away shine" on wigs! Thank you for your tips and real help on what to do! PS can you guess what wig I'm wearing in my profile picture?

Mary-Ann Roy: Thank you. Excellent help! Will try the baking soda technique Ona all blonde wig I just bought.

Pam Deloach: Careful with spraying that talcum powder. I breathed in medicated talcum powder for an itchy scalp and developed double pneumonia!

Hyesun Stuart: Thank you for your tips! I just got a new wig and it is too shiny so I was ready send it back. I am glad I watched your tutorial video. I will try start with the dry shampoo. Is any kind of the dry shampoo will or do I have use one just like yours? I am wondering what brand is your dry shampoo?

Michele F: Thank u for the baking soda tip. I have yet to notice any reduction in the shine using dry shampoo.

donna wanna: I'm trying this tomorrow on my new platinum wig.

Sonja Middelhuis: Very beautiful wig! Looks like my JR Rachel in laguna blonde! Thanke for the tips Taz! I will try the baking soda!

Patinkular: Thank U TAZ. You r adorable. I love ❤️ your reviews- informative intelligent beautiful & fun!

CherryBoo65 B: Thank you for the great tips!

Bai Fengjiuer: Thanks I didn't have baby powder nor dry shampoo but I did have baking soda I see a big difference

Seb 713: Thank you so much, this was really helpful. When you say "use conditioner" can I use normal conditioner or does it have to be for synthetic hair?

Asia Inc.: Super helpful

Bobbi Buttons: Thank you so very much again. I’ve a couple of wigs that I love but hate the glare that my wigs have.

Danai Chavendera: you are a LIFESAVER! thank you so much ❤️

bxgal347: Omg u have such lovely wigs, and what a difference the baking soda made!!!!!!!! I need to try this . Thanks for great video new subby!!! Yay!!!!

susan cinek: When you show the two from the back I could really see the difference. Thanks so much for the demo.

Rubitube: Wow! very useful and important tips! Thank you. very cool. ❤️

GeorgiaPeach 1970: You're so cute! Is that really a wig you're wearing? It's beautiful. I like the messy bun extensions and found a perfect color match but the shine gives it away . Thanks for these tips.

Jane Clark: Thank you! Much needed!!!!

Annette Burchett-Taylor: I don't mind the shine. I think it makes it look like healthy hair. :-)

Beth Dallman: Dry shampoo does that to me too!

Crimson Cloud: Thank you sooo much for the tips ❤️❤️ can u tell me if we can use our ordinary shampoo instead of what u r using ?

rhonda ann allen: HI Taz, I'm about to embark on purchasing my first wig and I have been putting this off because I know that the shine is a give away that it is a wig. I am looking towards buying a heat friendly wig because it have seen in reviews that they are not as shiny. But with the dry shampoo where do I purchase it from a supermarket or one specially designed for wigs? Regards Rhonda.

Lainey: Have you any tips for flattening a new wig? when it seems to thick...

Terri Reyes: Thank you for the very important information.

Jayme lynn McIntyre: I've found this very helpful, though i use Sauve shampoo

Wigs, The Real Scoop with MichelePearl: This is so cool!!! My Norah from TOB blinded me !!! Thank you

mattiesful: I used the baking soda bath on a brand new JR Cameron and it was so dry and crispy I can’t wear it. I used cold water and about 2 tbsp of baking soda . Is there anyway to remedy this? I tried simply styling and Argonne oil already! Would love to reverse this process. Thanks.

Anissha Blackwell: Looks great. Thanks.

Eileen Langdon: Hi Taz. Thank you for another very helpful video. I was watching a video on Lauren Ashtyn’s channel and an ad popped up with you modeling a wig as though you were endorsing the company. The ad is for a site tamiwigs.com. I thought you would want to know about it. I know how you feel about it

Susan Hojdik: Excellent tip . Thanks, Taz

Marion Muolo: Wonderful video!

Rita: Very helpful. Thanks for sharing.

Ruth Wells: I like baking soda tip, dry shampoo with too much of spray aerosol will turn a black/ dark brown wig GREY!!!! Tfs, I will be trying

It's always Halloween except when it's Christmas: I wonder if I'm using the wrong liquid fabric softener or if I have synth wigs on which it just doesn't work. I've tried the fabric softener method on my Lapin d'or wigs and my Dream Holic wigs and it just makes them more shiny. I've used baby powder and dry shampoo but that makes them rough and hard to comb through, plus it might transfer on black clothing so that doesn't have my preference either. Vinegar also didn't work on my wigs. I also used baking soda, also didn't work. This is maddening because I've seen fabric softener work on the cheapest "party city" wigs, but it doesn't seem to work on my wigs.

Sophia Salinas: Thank you for the tip's

Lori Dela Fuente: First Purchase is watch me wow in cocoa, I am a naturally dark brunette. Thank you for helping me so much through my hair loss journey and trying to feel beautiful again! Most your wigs are synthetic? Is it worth the cost of human hair once you get use to wearing hairpieces? Thank you again, you are beautiful inside as well as out!

Yana Be Like : U are so sweet loved your video & super informative!!! ♥️♥️

StrawberryCoke: I have 100% human hair bundles from a trusted hair company but for some reason it came out of the bag looking very shiny. Is the baking soda bath okay for human hair? And is the soaking for 4 hours okay for human hair as well? I only ask because I've seen instructions elsewhere that say only 5 minutes . Human and synthetic hair will react differently to soaking in the baking soda correct? Sorry for all the questions I am just scared of ruining my v expensive hair

Bored Weegie: apple cider vineyard also gets rid of shine. and talc too.

Dink Baby: I’m new here and I got a new synthetic wig and it’s frizzy, how do I get rid of the friz

Mikell Wilcox: What brand dry shampoo did you use? Can you use any brand?

BlueBerrySoup: do you have to wash the wig after a day with dray shampoo or some other product?

Sandra Rivera: Your personality is so much fun ahh. Thanks for a helpful video

Michele KT: Hi Taz! I just came across an ad on YouTube from a company with a YouTube channel called Kamiwigs and they are using your videos in their ads. I thought you might want to know.
