Who else wants to look like a 90 supermodel pick me guess what is trending on tick tock right now, velcro rollers, but seriously, though, if you go onto tiktok search and you type in velcro rollers, you will be presented with a whole array of amazing velcro roller Videos - and i am here for it - i am all for 90s hair 90s makeup, 90s fashion, the 90s supermodel. Oh, my god. It was such a good time for beauty. Today, we're going to talk all about velcro rollers, i'm going to do a demo on my own hair, i'm going to show you a demo on a fine, haired client, i'm going to show you how to take them out without getting them caught in your hair. I'M going to show you some different placement techniques that you can do and i'm going to help. You live your best 90s supermodel velcro roller hair life. Let'S go so what are velcro rollers anyways, so velcro rollers are plastic cylinders that have velcro on one side the velcro sticks to your hair and allows it to stay in its position. You know with out clips. Sometimes you do need clips, but they are intended to stick to the hair so that when you roll it all up, it's all there in the roller and you don't need to use like a million clips now. I cannot stress enough that velcro rollers are not intended to be for curling your hair they're, intended for lift volume and a little bit of bevel or movement in the hair. I have read a lot in different reviews and things like that people saying you know why them bother using velcro rollers. They don't do anything. They don't curl my hair, my curls, don't last! That'S because they're not supposed to curl your hair. They are not a curling tool, they really are a oomph volume infusion of lift tulle. They are they're, not meant to create curls, and even if you use very small velcro rollers and you heat them up, you take your hair out. You will get a bevel and you will get you know movement more at the bottom of the hair, you're not going to get like a spiral or an overly curly. Look: that's not what they're for the main thing that you have to remember when using any type of tool for hair, and it's something that i say a lot on this channel is that hair is malleable when it's hot. It sets its shape when it is cool. If you want your hair to do something, you have to manipulate it when it's hot and leave it in that manipulated shape until it cools down, and then it will be set and will have less likelihood of dropping so with velcro rollers, because my hair, everyone thinks My hair is really full, but my hair is actually really really fine, as you can see in this clip when i just kind of let it be, and i don't style it if i want lift. If i want volume, if i want this really amazing shape. In my hair i have to infuse that shape when my hair is hot. So the way that i do that is, i put my velcro rollers in when my hair is hot. I let my hair cool. I take the velcro rollers out and i get all of this lift and all of this shape here at the top of my head and on the sides and everywhere, because that root has set lifted. So when the root was hot, it was put in a lifted position, it's cooled down and now it is set and ready to be worn. That way. So with that said, let's talk about placement. Placement is very important when it comes to rollers, so the first placement i want to talk to you guys about is the mohawk placement. What you want to do here is blow dry, your entire head of hair and when you get to the very top section, without a part line blow dry, your hair all backwards and put three velcro rollers in one by one, spinning them behind you, so that you're Going towards the back of your head so pay attention here to where the hair is before i spin it back. I am not lifting the hair up at 90 degrees and spinning it down. I am bringing the hair all the way forward and then spinning it back. So that i get the velcro rollers into a position that will optimize the volume, this is an easy peasy placement. Three velcro rollers you're already blow drying your hair. You pop them in bring it forward roll it back. So it's sitting like on base it's right up. There, it's not, you, know, tilted back, that's going to really optimize your volume and it's going to give you a big bang for your buck. It'S going to give you a nice big result right at the top of your head super super quickly. Now, if you have a little bit more time, then you can try this placement as well. This is a full head placement. It works better for longer hair, but i'm going to show you on my hair anyway. Okay, so bear with me, i'm in my bathroom there's. No natural light and the lighting is a little bit hideous, but we will go with it anyway. So what i do here, i start with that mohawk section placement just like i did before then i do that. Fourth roller right behind the three. So we get even more lift over there on the crown. Now, when we get to the side, i split it into two sections, starting behind the ear i'm going to take that roller and i'm going to roll it down and clip it in place. Now, right around my temples instead of rolling down, i actually like rolling it vertically away from the face. When i release it, you'll see what this does and again rolling it away from the face on that side, and then i just repeat the same thing: on the other side, just rolling that temple section right away from the face and then those bottom sections away from The face as well when i get to the back, i'm going to use my dry bar ones because they're a little bit bigger and i'm just going to put one nice big one in the center of my head and then i'm going to split the bottom section Into two apply a roller: there apply a roller there and then i just have a little bit of hair left at my nape and i'm going to apply a little ruler there. So, as you can see, it looks like this now. The next thing i like to do is spray my hair, with a light, hold hairspray, making sure everything is nice and secure there, and then i take my blow dryer. I put it on a high heat but low speed setting. This is important. You don't want to blow the hair all crazy, but you really want to heat it up. Right. Remember that hot hair is malleable. That is what we always say here. That'S like my motto of life, so i'm just going to heat it up. Equally, amongst my entire head, when i find that everything is nice and warm, then i just turn off my blow. Dryer and i go live my life and typically go get, dress and touch up my makeup now. What we want to do is we just want to remove everything. As you can see, i get tons and tons of lift. If you look here at the front, when i remove the front roller, you will see that the hair kind of rolls away from the face. It doesn't give me a huge amount of volume, but gives me a really pretty kind of away from the face frame, which is very 90 supermodel and very, very cute rough. Your hair up with your fingers, don't collapse it with a brush. Just use your fingers to kind of decide where you want to place it flip your head upside down, infuse more volume, and then, when you have the placement that you love, you can spray a little more hairspray. If you want - or you can go, live your life when i do this mohawk placement, what i typically do is every time i'm finished blow drying that specific section. I place my roller on that section and i'm good to go. So i will move on to the next wet section blow dry. It completely. So it's totally dry since it's already hot, i roll my roller down and let it set piece by piece doing this on yourself can be tricky. So that's why, if you have a diffuser attachment, it's a great other option. You can blow dry your entire hair. When your hair is totally dry, then you can put your rollers in and then you can heat it up with a diffuser. I find sometimes when i'm demoing hot rollers people get intimidated because they don't think that they can manipulate their hair, wet, put it in the roller and then blow dry, the other wet section without touching the other rollers, and i get that that's hard to do. That'S even hard to do on myself and i do this for a living. So if you want to get around that just do your entire head blow dry, your whole head! Whichever way you do then put your rollers in then just heat it up with. You know a nice high heat setting but low speed, so you don't blow the hair all around like crazy and then you can wait 15 minutes or half an hour for it to cool down before you release it. The second issue that a lot of people have is getting them caught in the hair, so many people are messaging me and saying i want to use hot rollers. I love how they look, but it rips out so much of my hair. It'S not worth it! I get that that is like a serious issue. There are some things that you can do so that you don't get your hot roller caught. So the first thing i want to show you is when you are doing your rollers, you want to make sure that the section you're rolling is the same width as the roller itself. You don't want to use too much width in the roller. If you do that, it's going to get all caught and all crazy. The next suggestion that i have for you is when you are rolling the hair. You want to take that section. That'S the same width as the roller put it all the way to the end of the hair and roll carefully. Sometimes i see people taking the roller and wrapping the hair around the roller, like they would around a curling wand, although this will still give you the same effect, it can be harder to take it out, then, because it can really start to get really caught. It'S very important that the rollers are placed in a way: that's nice and neat and orderly the second. You start putting them in all crazy. It'S going to be a lot harder to take them out if you're rolling it all weird or if the sections are really big and you're cramming them into rollers. It'S going to start getting a lot harder to take them out. The next tip i have for that is: don't squish your hair into the velcro. There are certain hair types that are more likely to get caught in the velcro. So when you are rolling your hair, don't push it so tight into the velcro, really let it lay just kind of gently on that roller when you roll it down and then secure it with a clip, that's going to be another way that it's not going to Tangle up so much because it's not squished so deeply into that velcro and finally, if it is caught say it is caught one way to get it out. That'S going to help you is hold on to the base of your hair and roll the roller out of your hair when we use velcro rollers, for whatever reason we seem to like to grab them and just yank up and i'm even guilty for it. I do it too, i just kind of pull them up and that's fine if you're not creating a lot of damage, but if you're noticing that you're getting a lot of hair coming out or that it's creating a lot of damage. Or so you have really. You know fine and thinning hair and you don't want to lose any more hair hold on to the base of your roller. Don'T squish it too much into the velcro hold on to the base of your hair. Should i say and then roll that roller out gently. That'S really going to help you get it out without causing any damage to your hair. If you like this video, then you may find this one to be really helpful. Next i'll catch, you guys in the next one bye,

Glam Girl Gabi: Thanks for watching Besties! If you want some more tips that will give you an even bigger BOOST of volume, watch this video next: 6 BRILLIANT HACKS to get VOLUME in FINE Hair (#4 is my favourite...) https://youtu.be/eJP6TGuQVt4

Cinderella Tremaine: I’m not a hair stylist but I did my mothers hair twice a week until she passed away in her 80’s this is exactly how I did her hair and it is such a wonderful memory. I did find I had Velcro rollers with metal inside and she had such thick hair I found those worked better on her than the ones with only plastic. But letting them cool completely is really key! Thank you for this video. You are awesome!

Anita R: I found my mum's Velcro rollers from the 90s last weekend, she doesn't use them so I did. I also brought the revlon hair dryer brush and the combo is a game changer for my fine thin hair! Getting my blunt bob hair cut on Sunday. You have changed my world! ❤️

Tracie Warren: OMG, I was wondering why Velcro rollers did not work for me!! Heat is the key. I was ready to give up and put these rollers in the trash. I actually might try this today. The tip of using the blow dryer at the end to heat it up sounds like a game changer!!! Thanks again for all the tips you provide us!!!

Maria Booth: Thank you Gabi for your tips on velcro rollers and using the diffuser to apply heat. I just ordered my rollers, extra clips and a dryer with a diffuser. I'm growing out my hair and although it's not thin and I have a lot of hair, I need to find someway to tame it down and control frizz. It's not as long as yours is yet, but it's getting there. My hair is wavy and tends to frizz in spring and summer when the humidity is high. I will try your tips and hope they work. I love your videos that are full of great hair advice and tips. Keep them coming and I'll keep watching them.

19buttercup: Great video on velcro rollers. Have been using them for years, off and on, but learned from you not to wrap your hair too tight in order to keep hair from pulling out. Brilliant! I use them on wet hair and let them air dry. If I want a longer lasting curl, after hair is dry, I use the diffuser method you show here. Thanks for such a useful video.

Diane Merpaw: I love your videos! I just got my velcro rollers yesterday, this video came out at the perfect time! Thank you so much from someone who has had fine hair for the past 58 years!

Beverly Hintzen: Thank you Gabi! Your hints and tips are so helpful and clever!

Music Lover: I just bought but haven’t used them yet. I can now try with greater confidence. I was relieved when you gave the alternative tip to dry the hair completely before placing the rollers then reheat. Critical for me as I am clumsy with a blow dryer and round brush! I generally dry my hair upside down and touch up with an iron if needed. The mohawk placement and how to bring the hair section forward before rolling the back is also helpful. I’m looking forward to giving this a try!

Yvonne Ramirez: I'm new to your channel and I am soooo enjoying your content. I have heritary alopecia and as a female ( as you know) can be very discouraging and frustrating. Your content has given me so many great ideas as how to make my hair look fuller. Can't wait to see more videos. Thank you so much for sharing your content. ❤️

Sunny Girl: You have the all-one-length hair length I’ve been considering. My hair is longer about 3-4 inches past my shoulders. Can you talk about the pros and cons of short vs long? Another good video today

V Hoov: I LOVE Velcro rollers. They give me amazing volume and wave. I try to use as little heat as possible since I have thin hair. Your rolling layout is wonderful. My hair dries while in Velcro rollers.

Mary E: For US folks the set of velcro rollers is also available on Amazon US. Love the idea of using diffuser as I'm kind of a klutz with hair. Also has benefit that ends are tucked away from direct heat. My hair is super fine so I'll probably try one single roller first lol.

angela warren: Another really great how-to for my fine hair ; ) Thank you!

beckyev1965: I have long thick hair and try to avoid heat styling as much as possible - I set my hair on the 2.5" velcro rollers when wet and let it dry that way - I get great results with no damage. I've got a lot of hair, so it takes several hours to dry (in the winter I'll jump start it a bit by running the blow dryer over it), but I can usually get by with doing this once a week.

tish dish: Thank you Gabi I love your videos & always get something great from them every time. Sending love from Australia

Yana L: I’m definitely trying this! I have a slightly longer bob than yours, alottttt of gaor but it’s fine. Thanks Gabi! ❤️

Paper Sama: Hi Gavin, great video, tons of tips to get the ultimate out of Velcro rollers..big favor - can you please share what lip liner and gloss you have on in the section of video when in your bathroom applying the Velcro rollers? It is the most AMAZING lip colors ever and the look I am constantly trying to achieve . Thanks so much. Love from Brooklyn, NY ❤️

Linda O'Connor: I am so glad I found your channel! Great tips and techniques for using Velcro’s rollers, a perfect alternative to using hot styling tools.

Nico Pico: Thank you so much for your videos! They are so helpful.. . I have fine thin hair with a wavy curl in it .. if I don’t blow dry my hair it gets kinky, frizzy and flat… I figured out a long time ago that layering my hair didn’t do it any good cause it left the ends of my hair very thin so I quit layering my hair… I can get plenty of volume on top of my head to make it look thicker but the ends of my hair you can’t get it to look thicker unless it’s a blunt cut… so I took your advice, I went and got the blunt bob.. and I just now got my Velcro rollers which I’m going try soon.. next is getting a good hairdryer and hairdryer brush so thank you so much.. I love trying new hairstyles.. so thank for the tips

Mandie Kay Fit: Should you put a volume lifter like a spray or mousse in when it's wet for more help on volume?

Michelexxo: THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO!!! i have such fine hair that i cant get volume to my roots and it makes so sad. I am very appreciative that you explained alternatives to the round brush as well! thank you!

Marni Dillon: I had avoided them because they caught in my hair. Your tips helped SO much. Now I love them.

Wendy J: Thank you for this! Most helpful hair styling video I’ve seen.

JC: My hairstylist just told me to use Velcro rollers and I needed this in depth tutorial! Thank you!

Rula Abiantun: Hi beautiful Gabi, thank you for teaching us all these tricks, you are awesome. Could you please tell us what is your base hair colour and your highlights, it looks so pretty . Could you do a video on how to choose the right base versus highlight as most hairstylist seem to do the same colours on everybody. Thank you heaps

bchbounds: Your tips for putting them in/out are also very helpful. I think I've been doing what you said about making them too tight as well as then squishing them down when rolled. Tnx so much for this video. ❤️

Becky Kueng: Thank you so much for this video! I wish I had as much hair as you do and that mine would look as full and nice....however, my thinning , fine hair is no where near as lovely and thick as yours. I will continue to try the velcro rollers and hope that I don't make the thinning even worse. It's so hard to look at myself and the state of my hair these days...such a far cry from how it used to look it makes me sad ! Your technique for rolling and removing the curlers may help with some of my issues... I can only HOPE!! I would love to color my hair again like I did a few years ago but I am so afraid it will damage what hair I have left and make things even worse. I used to have my hair lightly highlighted with some low lights also but I haven't done it in 2 years and am so scared to do it ....now I just live with the little bit of grey that I have and try to deal with making my hair look less thin and flat. Thanks again for making this video. I have enjoyed watching your channel !!

French Cafe: I’ve used Velcro curlers with my curling iron for about 20 years. Curl a section, place the Velcro curler … repeat till all are done; let cool & remove.

Lexi Jones: I love how educated you are. Such a good teacher.

Patti R: You can get the same effect by setting in the rollers when hair is damp and give it a little time to set.

Karen Braun: Thanks for the tips on how to use these rollers. I bought them after watching a previous video and struggling with getting them stuck. Definitely learned some things!

Gail Bennett: Thanks for the tips as I have started using my velcro rollers for my now thinning hair. I also find my hair tangles when removing so I will try some of your tips. Do you think having product in your hair such as mousse contributes to the tangling?

Shar: Hello! What spray/product do you recommend for really thin, flat hair? Thanks ❤️

Crickett Fenner: I think you explained this better than anyone I have heard before

Lori Smith: I had to smile when I came across this. I’ve been using these for over 30 years. You are wrong about not being able to get curls from Velcro rollers. There is a method to doing that. Everyone has wanted to know how I do my hair over the years. It has bouncy volume , curls, and spirals that last for multiple days. Everything done before really does become new again eventually. Have fun with your “new” roller sets!

Lori Walter: I use my Velcro rollers to smooth out my curls and add bounce. I add them @ 80% dry and leave them in for about 2 hours. No heat styling needed.

Jessica Lynn: I've been using velcro curlers for years but never heated them up with the blowdryer!! AHH!! I can't wait to try this!! And I can finally use that attachment on my Dyson haha

Lisa: I’ve been doing Velcro rollers for the last 20 years. The best little hair secret known to man kind.

Karen Day: Great tips Gabi! Thanks

G Cook: Great explanation of how to use the Velcro Rollers! I appreciate it!

Lezlie R.: I have fine hair and have been using the 3 Mohawk and 2 on each side for years. But I blow dry my whole head and put my rollers in but instead of using the blow dryer to heat I will go through with my jumbo curling iron and just basically apply heat at the base of my scalp and then very quickly run it through to the end of my hair but mostly hold it for one second at the base to save heat on my ends and then put the roller in that way. But I literally only have them in a few minutes, like maybe brush my teeth or go put on my bra/underwear or something and my hair is then cooled and I have volume. Maybe I will try and leave them on longer and see if it makes a difference.

Maria Thunberg: Depends on your hair quality, for me with very fine strands of hair it is a no no as they damage my hair.

Beautyover60: I’m that 90’s chick - still rolling that 90’s & early 2000’s vibe - somethings never change. Velcro rollers I think are best as a roller set after you have already curled the hair so I use mine after I use a curling iron. So by the time the heat has dried the curl sets around the roller it’s just a nice way to let that curl cool down if that makes sense so you can roll it up in the Velcro rollers do your make up by that time the curl has cooled. Obviously some people use them as regular hair rollers but I think that this is how their best intended to be used

Nancy or Keith M: I used my dusty Velcro rollers today with my laifen hair dryer. Life changing combo at 49.5 years old for shoulder Length medium thick coarse dark and highlighted Hair. TY :) need to perfect the removal and placement to reduce hair Stuck In roller But I’ll Practice.

Bipolar Courage: Need to get some clips for them but been trying out some velcro rollers when hair nearly dried. Just a few at front & sides. Adds a bit of volume & a little wave to my almost straight hair.

Teddy: They will rip the living heck out of your hair. I have probably lost two full scalps of hair by velcro rollers. It's the only thing I've used in years, but I've paid for it by loss of hair. I suggest you use them when you really really need body because you are going to lose hair everytime you use them and it adds up over the years.

Renee Kroyer: I find that the clips I need to use to keep these velcro rollers in place leave dents all over my hair. Is there any way I can avoid the dent? I've tried those claw-like clips too, thinking I could avoid the dent, but they still dent my hair, just in a different way. lol My hair is super fine and super-slippery too. If I do not use the clips, the rollers fall right out. I think I'll try getting the diffuser and just blow dry my hair, put in the curlers, and then heat them up. Leave them in for a while for best effect. Thank you for this video. I did see some magnetic rollers in the store and was wondering what they were all about. Have you tried them?

A R: Yup. You are spot on, always, only, ever and always...THE BEST....television, media and each and every broadcasting outlet needs you in a journalistic and informative role, ... TRUTH.

Every Day Is New!: Great video. Very informative. Thank you!

luckyneko1: I've used them for years. They last forever and no heating element to go out a couple hours before your big interview.

BiBiche Knauf: Wher have I been? I discovered your channel a little less than one week ago and I am totally hooked. You are absolutely amazing! How I wish I had you for my stylist. I already learned a lot and thank you from the bottom of my heart

Breaking Free Off Grid: Awesome video! I have thin hair, this is a great solution.
