Vlog: How I Cut My Own Curtain Bangs (For Fine/Straight Hair) *Matilda Djerf Inspired*

I'm calling this new look: curtain bangs lite™ -- this is in no way matilda djerf style curtain bangs, but if your natural hair is similar to mine I thought this vlog might be helpful! I know they aren't your typical "curtain bangs" but lots of people are kinda describing this look right now by calling these shorter layers in the front by that name. let me know what you think in the comments!

Hello, so i started doing this and then i thought i should film it. So here we are, my hair is sectioned, as you can tell by the title, i'm cutting my hair. I don't really know to what extent i'm cutting my hair uh. The goal is like minimalistic curtain bangs, so i'm not trying to go full curtain bang, because i'm i'm realistic enough to know that a my hair is probably too thin to really look fabulous with curtain bangs, especially in the front. I have a lot back here, but at least in the front there's just you see what i mean just not as full, i guess which is really nice, because it's kind of lighter it's like easier to mess with in the front, i guess, but with curtain bangs, You kind of got to get some like thickness and volume going. Also i'm no hair stylist, i'm a beauty enthusiast. I will say i'm going to take my rings off too really quickly. If you're new here hi my name is lottie. I make beauty fashion, lifestyle, career type, videos. I would love to have you subscribe down below if you like this video and give it a thumbs up so yeah like i said i started this so i've sectioned my hair and i actually have done a little bit of trimming. So here's some hair i haven't done much though here's where we are it's kind of choppy. I started kind of cutting here, but i know that just like cutting this like a waterfall, is not what i want, because i've done that my whole life and that's just never been the look. It'S just like chaotic energy. I'Ve been interning all summer and i just found out that i'm not getting a full-time offer so not because i'm not awesome, but just because the company is in a hiring freeze because of cobit 19.. So i'm just letting you guys know. That'S where i am mentally. After like working really hard all summer um, this is why i'm cutting my bangs, because i know like cutting your bangs always has to kind of come from some kind of emotional turmoil, so that is mine. I'M gon na wet my hair. So i've watched a few videos do i know what i'm doing? No, but here's the thing. Okay, i'm not bad at cutting hair, i'm actually pretty knock on wood good at cutting hair, but i'm good at cutting other people's hair. So i just don't know how it's going to go on me. I'M hoping it's going to go well but, like i don't know, these are the vibes i just tuck it except then we'll have all of my hair, and this is a little bit of an aggressive vibe but, like i think, there's potential sorry, the rest of my Hair is pulled up and i don't want to pull it back but, like i haven't been to the hairdresser since spring break, i haven't been back since because i don't really need to go. I don't get my hair colored, i'm thinking kind of like lip length lip to chin kind of length or bottom of my nose. I'M definitely not thinking like cheekbone length that is going to be far too aggressive. I'M thinking something more like that. So i feel like it just will work but yeah i've already sectioned, as you can tell, i tried to like make it kind of even but you know i'm gon na. Let it just up here at the top, where my part is, i kind of got the back part of the section wet a little bit, but that's okay like back there, but we're rolling with it. Okay, great see the main issue here is that, like i said, i'm not bad at cutting hair. I just can't really see my own, so that's kind of where we're at, but we're gon na forge forward. This is the revlon blow dry brush. I'Ve had this for like two years and it's recently kind of popped off. Okay. So, by the way i've watched the video of matilda jerf, i don't know, if that's how you say her last name, i watched the video that she's done about how she cuts her bangs, and then i watched a few other like at-home ones. The thing is that in that video, hello, i'm gon na come out behind my hair. The thing is in that video: she is maintenance, cutting them. It'S not like cutting from scratch and i just feel it's a little bit different when you're cutting from scratch versus like touching up your wings. So i wanted to get some inspiration from people who did it themselves. So i've watched like three videos total, so anyways um. I'M gon na go like this, basically with the blow dry brush just over and over until it's dry, okay, i'm back so now. I really can't see anything at all. Yeah, here's, my hair, i feel like i look like that: oompa loompa that grew all the hair. In the remake, you guys know what i'm talking about okay, so we still found by part. I think it's still good to find your part, because you need to cut like how you're gon na style it oh this is so just i feel overwhelmed: okay, okay, okay, okay, how many times gon na say: okay, okay, my hair is feeling thicker now that it's Here together, i just feel anxious about like cutting all of this at once and like this shouldn't all be one length either, i'm just going to start and do like a kind of like a rainbow right here. I have these scissors, which basically are just like they thin your hair out. Here i can make a cut like like this, and then you go like that. It like pulls the hair out. It'S like it like pulls half of the hair, so i have those and they're very forgiving, which is good, but i think i just may use the bad boys and go for it and then i'll go back over it. Well, first of all, let's just make it like, even so, i'm just gon na do like ew, oh my gosh, why is this like? I'M barely even doing anything? Oh, i have a trash can right here by the way that i'm like trying to kind of cut. My hair into this is fine. I just basically i want to leave it a little bit longer than i think i need. Also sorry, if you hear like white noise, i have my skincare fridge in here guys. I really like i kind of just want to cut like i'm definitely going to cut the rest of my hair back here, like it's gotten so long, it's like to here. I had it like, probably here at the start of quarantine in march. I think this is a really good start, i'm honestly happy with it. Okay, so in the matilda video, which is the holy grail, she had her hair like sectioned. I don't know if my hair is just like not thick enough for that, so i'm going to start with this section. This is going to be the longest one on this side again, i just kind of want to do this time instead of a rainbow. I want to do like a upside down rainbow. Oh gosh. I just really have faith in myself that this is gon na turn out good. I can see how hairdressers, though, that i can see how they get scissor happy. You know all right all right all right now. This is the most imperative piece. I have a lot of stress. I feel like i'm in the parent trap and i'm halle cutting annie's hair, don't shut your eyes. Oh okay, right sorry, just got a little nervous. I'Ve! Never really cut my hair before. Can you tell also i'm like not really cutting i'm just like shaving? If that makes sense, i'm just kind of like holding it and like sliding the blade, so you guys, i think it looks pretty good. Looking good, i mean it's just like short layers. Once i cut the rest in the back, it'll be a lot better. I guess the key, for this, too, is like having decent vision. I didn't ask either my parents to help because they're blind, okay, sorry, i haven't been like looking in the camera and showing you that much but that's where we were and here's where we are, i'm just gon na kind of keep cutting this like waterfall. Also, here's what my hairdresser does she'll literally pull it like all the way up and then like chop it straight like chop that, just like straight, i don't know what i'm doing guys i'm just this is just one side too. I think this is good progress for this side. Let'S work on this side, um i'm gon na go ahead and cut this because i hadn't cut that yet just to make it even this side really isn't that uneven from this one. It'S just oh yeah, oh right, i sectioned it with three sections. Let'S do that with this side. Sorry i feel like i should be explaining what i'm doing, but the thing is. I don't really know what i'm doing again with the section it just feels so straight. I guess there's just not that much hair, okay and then now, i'm just like chopping. The bottom like upwards, like this, to make the cut less blunt, see how i like cut a v. I don't know if you can really tell, but i'm trying, but then you put it down and it just looks straight now: i'm just taking it and loosely again trimming the bottom. So it's not as blunt just like upwards. This feels longer than the other side. So we just can't all be matilda, i think, is the moral of the story. Okay, this is again the most critical section, so let's not mess it up. I think i want to like twist it like this and then go from there. I don't really want this to not be able to be tucked behind my ear. Okay, now we're gon na. Do this thing again, because it's really blunt okay! So here we are oh wait. This piece way back here. Um, i feel like it's cute, gives me some volume, but it's not curtain bangs, but curtain. Wigs are so hard to style. So yeah, i don't know, let's see how it looks with the rest of my hair, start working on some transition pieces and then i'll come back to the section, because this looks so aggressive with the rest of my hair. I'M gon na, like just do a general chop of probably about an inch, but that can wait a second, so first, i'm gon na do is just take like this whole section and kind of make some layers on the top of my head that are just shorter. So that it blends better so wish me luck? Oh guys, i don't know what i'm doing. Okay, oh i got this. I got this just don't be afraid to cut i'm second guessing myself, i mean when you cut hair, you do it from the back and again i can't see the back, i'm just gon na start by doing my god. Is this? How short i want it. I, like keeping my hair at a medium length. I can always go shorter later, so this is how we're going to keep it, because i felt like those cuts were pretty. Even what i want to do is add some more layers back here, so these don't feel so random and awkward. I also want to like pull my hair back in a ponytail, let these out and like see how it looks and like how it could look better, but we're gon na do the layers thing first, this is gon na be hard to show. This is the thing where you like brush your hair up all the way and you cut see, but this is so hard to do on yourself. I seriously think i could do this on someone else and make it look so good. It'S just. I don't think that there should be these pieces that just like are here and there's these pieces that are like here all of a sudden. So i'm gon na do a little blending between here and here, because it's like bangs and then like rest of your hair, see. But the goal here is not to just turn this into more bangs kind of blendy over here, not as blendy over here. I just don't know what to do to make it better, but i feel like it could be better, but i don't want to just keep cutting in hopes that it'll be better. Let'S pull it up in a ponytail, see how that looks. I mean it's just kind of like messy, which is kind of my vibe. Is this even absolutely not? I mean i think it turns it's like i, okay, i'm stopping. I need dinner. It'S almost 7. 30.. Okay, but we're gon na come to my closet because there's my dad just replaced the light in here, and can we like it is insane my hair is straight and like curtain bangs looks really good on people with thick wavy hair mine is medium, it's not thin, But it's not thick and it's stick straight so, like i don't know, i just feel like this is kind of my best version of that. I really don't think it's bad. I don't know sorry. I keep looking the viewfinder too, i'm like still figuring out. If i like it, what do you think of my hair? Did you cut it? Yeah yeah, it looks good. Does it looks really good? You got a future as a stylist. You think yeah, it's a lot harder to do it on yourself than it is obviously on other people. I just wanted some more wispies like a lot more yeah, i mean it looks really good hello. On top i cut my hair touched your finger. You cut like the front i caught like an inch off the whole thing. Okay, i'm going to make dinner come on. Okay, had dinner. Now we're back mom found one piece in the back: that's a little long yeah! So it's just this, but it kind of blended in somehow i'm gon na put some dry shampoo in. I think, overall, it looks pretty good. I think the dry shampoo just helped a lot honestly, because my hair is so flat. Naturally, i think that that just kind of like gave me the the revitalization that i needed. I just put up an instagram story saying that i called the look uh curtain bangs light, because i can't do full curtain bangs and i think that there's a lot of people with hair like me, who want to do curtain bangs because they think it'd be fun. But it just i don't know it's a lot and so like also, you can always start here and then in like three or six months. If i want to cut it more, i can i'm like kind of parting it on the side right now, just to see what that's like, i'm always like. Moving my hair around, i usually go to this side, but i always dry it kind of in the middle. So that that's where it falls and then when you go to the side it gives you more volume i want to put on a headband and just see how that feels guys. I feel like a like. I don't know i feel i don't know why. The word french came to mind, but i just feel kind of french like the volume, oh my gosh, and then these little cute pieces that come out the back of the head band. I love so anyways. I just i'm really happy with how it turned out. This is a successful little vlog, i'm going to do another vlog, maybe tomorrow i want to do this is my last week working as an intern at coke, like i said, and so i'm gon na - do like a maybe a last day, vlog on thursday. My last day is friday, but i really don't think i'm gon na be doing anything on friday, but i'm sorry, i have been kind of mia you guys. I have really just kind of like been putting my head down and like doing the work for my internship. That is just such like an eight-hour commitment like every day that then trying to like exercise and just like play with the dogs, like i like watching a tv show with my dad at night and just spending time with my family. It'S a lot harder to like pull myself away. When my family's, like hey, what are you doing? Do you want to hang out? Do you want to watch a movie um, and i know that there's not really like an excuse, because i could totally make time. I just got kind of in that bad cycle, but i'm not gone. I'M definitely here and i'm definitely gon na be ramping up content in october. Now that i am unemployed, so let me know you guys want to see i've gotten really died. Sorry guys! Let me get situated back in here just to close out the vlog okay, but, like i was saying, i've been getting kind of into fashion and stuff a little bit more. I got these really cute crisscross jeans from princess paulie, which i know you probably know about them. I feel, like everyone talks about them, but i've been making some fun tick, tocks kind of about, like fashion inspo and stuff, it's just easier to turn around that content. Like i love connecting with you guys through video, but i find that i'm doing that mostly on my instagram stories and my tick tock. Just because the turnaround time on like production is so much faster, like i will film stuff on this camera, and then it will just sit here, and i won't take the time to sit down and edit it on my laptop and like go through the whole kit And caboodle - and i could just do it all - on my phone for tick tock on my phone for instagram, and so i don't know it's just i've gotten a little bit more addicted to my phone. Definitely more addicted to my phone in quarantine than i was ever before. I just like, like being able to quickly. My attention span has like also rotted away, and so i like just the quick turnaround of those kinds of videos. Honestly, i've just been feeling like my vlogs, have been kind of repetitive. I think that they'll be more fun ones. Coming now that i'm unemployed, just like working on different passion projects and different things, i'm gon na look for a full-time job, starting probably in january, like to start in january. I'M still applying to a few things now that i think could be a good fit and i don't want to like miss the opportunity on, but i'm not gon na, like scour the internet and devote all of my time to applying for jobs, but anyways guys. I feel like i've just been rambling and rambling. I oh, i also have like major updates with my space. I reorganized my room or rearranged my room. I completely like reorganized my closet over the weekend, which just feels great um and we painted the studio, gray um. I don't know if you guys saw on my instagram story, but it is now gray. It is much more calm in there. I really love it. I feel like i just blew through a ton of updates. I know i probably have more, but they may just have to wait for another video. I'M gon na do some like studio vlogs. Soon too, like um of working on my etsy shop. I also wan na i'm gon na try to teach myself premiere and after effects. So anyways, if you're still even watching this, thank you so so much for watching. I really appreciate it. I love you guys, a lot make sure you give this video a thumbs up. If you enjoyed it - and let me know what kind of videos you want to see just i love reading your comments. I put the headband back on. I don't really know why, but yeah anyways. Okay, i need to stop rambling, i'm just gon na i'm just gon na go i'm just gon na, say goodbye and i'll talk to you guys in my next video see ya.
