Hello, are you here with me: where are you i'm right here for you, whether you are old or new? Welcome to the channel? I am your main girl mel. I am a hair stylist and today we're gon na cut some bangs, not just any bangs, though curtain bangs, i'm going to break down what a curtain bang even is and what you should expect before getting curtain bangs. So you can determine if they're going to be right for you and how they should be cut depending on your hair's texture. So i have got my curly hair queens with me. We'Ve got purple pat and texture tammy, and i will be using these girls to demonstrate for you different variations of how to cut curtain bangs in curly and textured hair, so without further ado, let's get into it. Okay, so i am dying to get this hair out of my eyes, but first, let's talk about what even are curtain bangs. Are these curtain bangs? Yes, are these curtain bangs yeah and are these curtain bangs? Yes, curtain bags are some of the most versatile bangs that you can wear around your face and they don't always have to be bangs. Basically how we would describe curtain bangs is bangs that are shorter in the middle and longer on the side. Curtain bangs are pretty low maintenance because you can completely decide to grow them out and they will continue to grow out beautifully and maintain some of that soft face, framing shape that grows into longer face framing layers. This is why curtain bangs and the variations of it look beautiful on everyone. We just need to consider these four very important things before cutting. Yes, the factors you need to consider before getting curtain bangs number one. What is your hair texture, your hair's natural texture, whether that is straight, wavy, curly or coily - is going to affect how you cut the bangs, so it's very important to consider what your natural texture is and how you're going to wear them. For example, maybe you have naturally curly hair, but you prefer to wear it straightened. Then you would cut it for how you style your hair, but if you style your hair curly, you want to cut it. According to your curls, which i will show you number two you want to consider, what is your face? Shape your face, shape, understanding what your face shape is is going to determine what kind of curtain bangs you want, whether they are going to be shorter. A little bit longer or even longer, i have a full video on this, so i will link that in the cards above so you can go check that out in this video. For personal reasons, uh, i will be cutting the shortest form of curtain bangs, which are going to be. You know, above the eyebrow framing around the eyes, which is going to help to highlight the cheekbones as well, something that i always like to emphasize now. After your hair texture and your face shape, you want to consider where you part your hair with curtain bangs. What makes them so fabulous, and especially trendy right now is that they look great with the middle parting curtain. Bangs don't work as well with side partings, because you know she's completely different and if you do prefer to part your hair off to the side or you have very strong cowlicks and growth patterns that push your hair and part. Your hair, naturally up away and off to the side, then you maybe need to think twice about getting your curtain bangs or at least keeping them a little bit longer. The fourth thing: no one considers this when they are cutting bangs, but you really should always think about what season is it? Is this really the time of year where you want hair? On your face, all i'm saying and asking you is to consider if you are going to be prepared to have hair on your face while it is hot and if not wait until the fall, the fall is a prime time to get bangs. We love it anyways. Those are the four factors that you need to consider before: cutting your curtain bank. Now i will show you how girls, not you deborah, we get it. You look great, you already look great you and your miss curtain banks, so i have got my curly hair queens with me. We'Ve got purple pat and texture tammy, but first watch and learn as i demonstrate on i'm not gon na throw you. I would never come here, girls, so sorry here as i am, we shall begin this process. You will notice that i am going to cut the framework of these curly hair bangs on dry hair. That'S right, dry hair! As we know, curly hair reacts very differently when it is wet versus when it is dry. When it is wet, it looks much longer than it actually is so to prepare for the cutting. You want to make sure that you style your bangs forward, as if they're already cut that way. That way, you can see how they naturally lay on your head and determine where they should be cut. Now, my hair, that i'm going to be cutting is actually several days old, but you can absolutely do this on fresh day. One hair that has just been washed just be aware and think about how your hair reacts when it is dry, for example, my hair, when it is very moisturized, it tends to be a little bit more weighed down a little bit more elongated, but as it gets Drier and dried out as the days go on, my hair can spring up a little bit more and get even bouncier and a little bit shorter in length. So, that's why i want to make sure i'm doing this when my hair is really dry and not super moisturized and hydrated and elongated, and before we move on. I do want to make note that if your hair has been damaged - and you have textured pieces that are really damaged on the ends but curlier at the root go slow, because once you cut off those damaged ends, you may notice that your hair bounces up way More than expected as well, so you also need to take that into consideration. Okay, now i think we can start cutting i'm going to start with my shortest piece first, which is going to be in the middle. Remember. Curtain bangs are short in the middle two longer on the sides and this hair. When i look at where it lays on my head, it is right at the tip of my forehead and because of the way my head is shaped, and my forehead is shaped. This hair in the front naturally lays forward that's one of the reasons why i know i'm also a very good candidate for the shorter curtain bangs that frame more of my eyes. If you have a higher hairline, sometimes it can be difficult to get the hair to fall and lay forward and down, and so to see what hair really wants to fall forward place a flat comb at the top of your head and wear that comb lifts off Of your head, all the hair before that is really what is going to work well in the bangs. Now i shall take my fatties. These are my puffins shears. These are professional, hairdressing scissors, not that you need to use these if you are not a professional. However, do use the sharpest scissors you can find because not sharp enough scissors can cause split ends. You don't need that negativity in our lives this time holding my shears. This is how i'm cutting the hair. This is where i'm cutting the hair right in this c. Shaping of my curl, i am going to cut see where the curl is and i'm going to cut in the middle of that boom, and that is one curl done now. We'Re going to bring out the sides a little bit at a time right against my forehead. Here i'm going to grab the neighboring curls and i am grabbing them as they are clumping. However, if it feels like a really big section, i am going to separate that curl right there always easier to cut a little bit of hair at a time now. I can see how these are laying i can see what c shaping i want to cut in and i'm going to stretch and beside it, i'm going to go a little bit longer. Oh, oh, damn see, and now that i have my shorter center sections. When i look at the side, i need to determine now if these need to be cut and honestly they don't i'm pretty much liking how this angle is going. I really want to keep some of the length on the sides, because the longer the size, the longer your curtain bangs the more kind of slimming effect it's going to have on the face and take down your next hair, again neighboring to your middle section, which is Always the shortest curl, i'm going to separate them as necessary and take a look again where it is laying on my head and that's going to help me determine the length i should cut. You see i like to grab hair up until my temples, and i also want that to pretty much be the longest part of the bang and i'm basically just continuing this pattern. Now i had my shortest second shortest. This is going to be another notch longer, and that is my first layer of my hair and for my preference for the look that i'm going for. I really want to keep these soft and wispy. I do not want heavy bangs, because in my curl pattern and my texture, it can look really overwhelming and really poofy. If i keep too many curls short so from here, i'm now going to let all of this other hair down. Let me shake this up perfect and from here i can see which hairs are falling forward that are going to cause a problem, so i'm just going to gently separate them. You can see i'm left with this little triangle and i'm going to now cut some of these as well only the pieces that are in my eyesight and vision and from there before i continue cutting and getting too scissor happy. I recommend re-styling your bangs, so you can see how they're going to react, and then you can go ahead and continue to adjust them and be right back. Okay - and these are now the bangs after a little bit of refreshing, everything seems to lay exactly where i want it. I feel fresh, i feel fresh, but let's take a look at how we would do this on other textures. Let'S say you're a little bit more wavy or you have a curl pattern, but it's still hair. That can be easily kind of straightened out, and maybe you like to wear your hair both ways. This is purple pat and we styled her entire front bang section which includes this? U that we took a look at on my hair as well forward. You can see with her hair. There is some overhang as well, but how would we cut this notice? How, without disturbing the curl clumps too much i'm still separating the hair, so i'm going in layers and on wavy hair, where the curl chunks and clumps and curls are a little bit bigger. I'M going to take about a one inch section at a time, layering that over the forehead and then as always, starting in the middle with that shortest piece and notice. How i am cutting on an angle you never ever ever want to cut blunt straight across. Keep the scissors on an angle for that softer, look which is really what you want with a wispy kind of curtain bang. This is how i am first carving out the bangs, and then i will go in and do any point cutting as necessary until i have got that nice u-shape around the eyes and then i can take down the next layer. I will continue to add more hair on top, depending on how heavy i want the bangs, or rather how heavy pat wants the bangs and then once she's done, we can see how it looks on her wavy curls. With this texture of hair. You can absolutely blow them out, and so, if that is the case, especially if you have very unruly bang and cowlicks, then instead of styling, the bangs curly you're going to want to do this technique with a brush that is either round or even your denman brush And do what's called a wrap dry, so you're brushing the hair in both directions with the blow dryer side to side then forward and then flipped back and keep doing that until you have gotten the shape and you can go in and point cut from there. Just like how these bags would be cut on straight hair, as seen on debra here, lots of versatility with wavy hair lots of different options, and these bangs really do look great whether the hair is both styled curly or straight. But now, let's look at hair. That'S a lot more coily same thing: i'm taking that section all around the hairline this time, because tammy's hair is a tighter curl. The section is not as big as pat's on wavy hair, i'm almost letting each curl down individually, so i can see where they lay and really shape to get that you umbrella rainbow face frame effect, really taking my time to carve into the sea of the curl Shorter in the front longer to the sides and really making sure that i keep the sides long enough to maintain that rounded shape of the curtain bank. Now, after all of that, i hope you found this guide to the super trendy curtain. Bangs very helpful. If you did like this video, please make sure to give it a thumbs up, and if you want to see more videos like this check out my hair, cutting playlist and don't be shy subscribe, so that i know that you are here with me, as i am Here, for you, this has been your main girl now teaching you how to cut some curtain bangs, and i am out peace - we're going to start this again. Hello. Where are you? Are you here with me? I'M here with you, someone tooted debra, is that you stink bring it back now. Y'All one hop this time. Anyways you're interrupting me. The bangs are back, the bangs are back. There is no going back now, i'm gon na do it again: bangs bangs, bangs, bangs, bangs, bangs, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang woo! This is like two years in the making. I'M gon na save that for my collection.

Clarisa Izaks: I've been thinking about bangs this whole weekand she definitely came through on the perfect time

dermiker: Thanks for always including wavies. Sometimes the curly community leaves us out/can be a little gate keeper-ish, but we have plenty of texture struggles!

Neen Kay: That feeling when Mell releases the video you needed two weeks ago. MISTAKES WERE ALREADY MADE!

disney knitter: I would love to see a hair cutting video that would show how to go from say Amanda’s length, to your length..just how to take off length. And how to volumize the crown area in those with thin hair. I have great curls at the bottom, but I’m thin on the top and unfortunately, I’m unable to go get a proper hair cut even if I had a curly stylist near me. I need a good curly hair cut! I love all the hair cut videos. I just wish I knew what was best for my situation! I wish you could give private hair cut consults and tell us what to do like you did with Amanda.

Jen M: I found you a couple of weeks ago and now, the first time in 38 years my curls are kicking hawt. I need to go back in time and tell kid me curls rock and are not scary at all. Thanks Mell for changing my life, literally. Rocking my ginger boing boing curls like a pro now.

Petite Cherie: Finally someone talks about how hair gets curlier during the week... I always felt like I'm the only one and maybe my hair is taking 2 days to dry

Kat Tyrrell: I just cut my own curly bangs like 2-3 weeks ago, and I started thin and wispy for a few days before deciding to make them thicker, and I’m really happy with the results, my bangs end right before hitting my glasses so it’s perfect. Now I just have to figure out the best way to style them and get used to styling them.

Emily Bunting: Hey Mel, can you please do a video on different cutting techniques? Ouidad vs. Devacurl vs. Rezo-cut. Wet vs. dry haircuts.

Adriana Magana: I've been cutting my own bangs for years but since I stopped straightening my hair I couldn't figure out why my thick curtain bangs looked so damn goofy when they're curly thanks for this video! Thankfully my bangs grow 30x faster than the rest of my head lol

anna: I have curly bangs that I cut and maintain myself and highly recommend them! I was due for a trim/re-shape and decided to see if there were any new videos I hadn't already seen about cutting curly bangs, so this is perfect :)

XDoTxY: Thank you!! This helped me know what to do even when i never cut hair before. I was clueless until I found this video, I really love how my hair looks! I've wanted curtain bangs for a really long time. Hairdressers in my area don't have experience cutting curly hair. The ones that do are wayy too expensive. You're a life saver thank you so so much

Biza: My stylist typically cuts my hair straight and I definitely want more layers and maybe curtain bangs. My hair is a lot like Amanda’s so I wonder if I should ask her for more of a shag with curtain bangs? Like would it come out looking right?

Emily: You didn’t just inspire me to get bangs, 2 of my friends want them too. Together we have a wavy, a curly, & a curly/coily. I had mind done in a salon & I’m not too thrilled, but you showed me how to fix them & thankfully my hair grows fast. I just wanted to let my hair settle after such a big cut. Going in this week! ‍♀️ While I’m annoyed they’re too short, I can let it go. This was a gigantic change, not just bangs & I haven’t styled my bangs curly before. In 9 years, this is the first miss. Give my hair a month & it will be good. Plus, all of my friends think I’m a natural redhead thanks to her skill with color. Thanks for giving me some fun moments “with” my friends over bangs & hair in general. We’re scattered across the country, but we get to cut our hair “together.”

Miss Lisa: Thank you mell and Amanda for all your hard work in making these videos it really means a lot to me! And everyone one else I’m sure. Keep up the great work❣️

Minna Uyeda: Perfect timing as usual. I haven’t had bangs since my straightened short bob days. I may revisit this in the fall.

Shana Fishbein: This is a great video for this week cuz I'm getting my hairs cut today! Basically asking for what you did on Amanda 7 months ago, including the curtain bangs!

Curlsandwaves_kiss: Absolutely love my curtain bangs! I have slightly longer ones, they start just below my eyes and go down my cheekbones. I find they help my 5head not look so prominent my 16 month old naturally has perfect wispy curtain bangs

iingrid: Love you Mell!! Thank you for saving my wavy/curly hair❤️

Sunflower Baby: Would you maybe consider doing a video on side swept layered bangs? I wear my hair parted on the side and like to blow dry my bangs straight . I wear them to the side, feather layered. I used to trim them in between hair cuts, but with the pandemic they've gotten really long and I've forgotten how to. I don't want to make a hot mess of them Thanks.

kateri17: Mell I would love a video on the haircuts you suggest to clients with different types of curly hair. I need haircut inspo so badly, I've been rocking the standard long layer cut for way too long.

Arcadia: Yay! Love this!! I’d love to see another video on how to style these bangs. I always seem to have some trouble styling mine so they last all week. Love your videos! You seriously saved my curls!

Muffin: Would you do a video of different types of bangs for curly hair? My bangs are kinda like the mannequin with wavy hair but I have a strong cowlick that results in a natural side part. I've always had bangs by cutting the "bigger" part of the bangs shorter because if I grow it out, the strand of hair tends to curl towards my face and it's annoying having hair on your eyes.

Theressa Taliulu: You’re amazing Mel. Me and my mane has never had it soooo good thanks to your channel…Thankyou Mane Mel

Diana Carolina Becerra Ardila: I really loved that you mencioned the season of the year, because I've been thinking of getting bangs during this summer. I didn't got them, but, I'm at fall (I'm in Chile, South America) So...What you said, got to me - BTW, love you <3 - P.S. I'm wavy but in a weird way, cuz I'm like fine to normal hair, between level 1-2 porosity, a heart shape face, but like a 2c-3b curls I think, cuz it's flat on the root, but ends in a curl... Correct me if I'm wrong hehe. P.S.#2 I'd love you to cut MY hair... just because it's weird and I believe I've been the best at it and I'm not a pro, so, I'm pretty sure that even I'm satisfied about my job cutting my hair, I know it can get better, because my hair at sometime was like a 3b-3c curl with a flat root a few years ago (before my relaxing {not sure if said it rigtht but I meant a permanent when I got a pattern 1 hair}). P.S. #3 In my weird case I cut my hair damped, cuz I get the shrinkage of the water and the lubrication of the water AS I SAID... I HAVE a WEIRD HAIR... ... Please HELP ME !!!!

Sophia Abubaker: I cut my bangs a few days ago, but based off of your seesters instruction. And.. um.. what should we do if we have split ends??

yellowsubmersiblemachine: Thank you so much for this!! I have curly hair and my hairdresser refused to give me curtain bangs, instead cutting my hair into a frizzy triangle. I followed this tutorial and my hair has never looked better!!! Thank you thank you

Jezelle: I used this to cut my bangs and I really like them. But I definitely think i will let them grow and I don’t plan to cut my hair like this again. I find a middle part with bangs difficult to style on my 2c -3a curls because it’s just flat on top and the other thing is bangs are kinda messy and I’m not that big of a fan of that. Sooo if you do this…. Consider everything

Tahty: HI MELL HAPPY TEXTURE TUESDAY!! this is the perfect video because I was thinking of cutting bangs on my hair!

Larkyn Ria: This is exactly what I needed to see thank you for explaining so well! ♡

Chelsea Lynn: What kind of bangs would work well for someone with a side part and/or a cowlick?

Curlsuncoded: Thanks for also showing us how to cut textured curls! You are the best!

SLAMSwan: Now I want curtain bangs, but in the fall. I truly appreciate you demonstrating on various textures. This video was very thorough.

Sara Bellum: I was going to throw in the towel and cut my bangs, however when you mentioned, "WHAT SEASON IS IT"?!... I rest my case because 90 damn degrees! Thank you girl!

Maryam Sultan: Thank you for the video! Your bangs look amazing on youuu

EL: Beautiful Job explaining on how to cut bangs, for curly hair! You look Great! ❤️❣️

Ana Beatriz: We curly girls were waiting for this for a whole year now

CARINA GARCÍA: FINALLYYY! I would have needed this video 6 months ago, but anyway THX so much

Tanairi Mastarreno: Also, curtain bangs fit you so well!!! ❤

Analicia Vazquez: Love your videos, you taught me to love and how to take care of my curly hair ❤️

GamingWithMus: Thanks so much for that comb tip. I never know how far back to take my bangs and they always look lifeless and thin as a result.

Unknown User: I was literally ab to cut bangs after my hair routine cus i had finally reached my hair goal and wanted to cut the shape for curtain bangs but something told me to wait until later tysm lol!❤️

erica curi: Great tutorial! Had bangs cut a few weeks ago by someone who I believe had no idea of how to cut curtain bangs on curly hair! Gonna have to wait till it grows a bit and will def use this video to do it myself!

Laura Cortes: Thank you for the effort and inclusivity

Susanne Hutchings: Great video-as informative as it is entertaining-great combination!

timevampired: I'm so glad I came across this, thank you! I went to devacurl salon and the lady, accidentally, blurted out to me "oh you have a really short forehead" which then made me not want to get bangs. We have very similar face shapes and forehead lengths and this really solidified that I want bangs! Thank you mama

Ishaan Menon: i just cut my bangs and I LOVE how they turned out!!! thank you

Charlie Emily: Mell you are constantly changing my hair’s life! <3

Adina Watson: Perfect timing I was about to either trim or cut my bangs tonight but thought I should see if mell has a vid on cutting bangs

Deanna: Never been this early lol....Happy Texture Tuesday!! Been waiting for you to upload this video so I could do it myself!!! So excited!! Thank you!!! Much love and happiness!! Xoxo

Tanya Klein: Yep gonna have to do this! Thanks Mell

LiVi aNa: <3 As usually love your energy ! thanks for this great tutorial maybe I really will dare cutting m own bangs . I dream of bangs for years but Im always really scared to change my hair style

C. C.: I have had curly bangs for almost 2 years. I have such springy curls, 3c 4a in some spots and it takes my hair forever to grow!

Sherri Hertzog: This was really helpful,I have wavy to curly hair, good tips ! Thanks,Mel!

Aiswarya Rachel: Hi Mell, I recently cut my bangs after watching your video, I have 3a-3b curls. But the bangs don't seem to curl well like the rest of the hair ends, even after finger coiling. So it doesn't look like I expected it to, any advice?? Also please make a video on how to sleep with curly bangs, cause if I clip it up at night, then in the morning they'll be standing right up instead of downwards

Marcela Díaz Morón: What I wanted for so long! Thank you so much.

Amanda Guido: Happy texture Tuesday!!!!

Yllka Berisha: About the season, this year I’ve got curtain bangs around mid/ending winter and in the morning when there was fog they’d get wet just as eyelashes

Viviana Samakusafifi: I did this while half drunk the night before my nephew wedding and went to bed while still wet. So I woke up with trepidation but when dried and my sister saw the “It turned out so cute I might due them myself.”

Robyn Szymoszowskyj: A video on how you style your bangs next please :D

Olive olives: Omg the tutorial I need! As my silly butt messed up last time I gave myself bangs forgetting now that I'm styling my hair in its wavy state

Alysha: My curtain bangs have been growing out, but now I want them again! Going to the hairdresser next week

MyriahBeauty: i appreciate you so much. i was just gunna go for it so i’m so glad you put this out

Just another curly girl J: I wish I could share a pic of my previous dusting . I was super confident and ended up snipping a long strand off by accident haha. I still trust you though ma'am.

Issy X: Guys I did the first curl too short and then panicked. I messed my hair up and I’m embarrassed to tell my hairdresser that I didn’t realise my curls shrank that much

pink philic: I need bangs to cover my 5head. Thanks for this ☺️

M Rodriguez: You're always so nice and funny, just a ray of light in my day

Kristele Jurado: I think I wanna get curtain bangs . Thank you so much for your hard work. Thank you for always making me laugh.

yuumeri: Been planning to cut my hair after my next wash so this comes at the perfect time

Corry CoLa: Thank you so much for this Video!!! Yesterday i cut my bangs.. and it went wrong so i braid my bangs away

wonderwaffles: THanks for this video, i was getting tired of my bans in my face and this was wat i was wanting to kno. I cut em a bit ago and this helped soo much.

Alisar Al Asaad: YESSSSS!!!!! Perfect timing!!!! Just perfect!!!!!

brianna: Mel's bangs look so good! My hair is too side parted for them to work but I love how they look

lvl0rg4n: Dammit Mel I literally just finished the pigtail cut 30 minutes ago and now I'm going to have to go rewet my hair down and cut more off.

Kathleen Ryan: Excellent tutorial thank you

Holiday: Just gave my bangs today, cut them little by little aka kept them really long and then slowly shrank them. Mostly point cutting to get the look I wanted no blunt cutting. I really learned a lot on your video.

J'Zhane Teosha: Great video, Can’t wait to chop myself some curtain bangs!!

Desiree Michaels: I so needed this about 4 months ago. I followed a different tutorial from someone else that would supposedly work on wavy to curly hair and, well, suddenly I had accidental baby bangs.

Heidi Rosin: I did it Mell - by no means perfect but my reg appt is in 2 weeks so my gal can clean them up a little. So far loving them!

Marissa Santa Cruz: It’s too late for me! I already cut my own bangs... I almost followed these directions to a T, almost... but I’ll follow your instructions in the Fall!!

Tammy: I just love that your coily girl is texture tammy! I’m a coily girl and also my name is Tammy! Lol just love your videos Mel! ❤️

Pinkradiohead: Two people didn't follow the tutorial correctly and destroyed their bangs lmao. Love this. I would like to try it but my bang hair is currently not curling much :(

shrouk elsayed: all love from egypt <3 thank you ! , could u pls make a video about the crown area damage ( front area of the hair is damged and the rest of the hair went okey with the routine after one year and a half of it )

Mona Bahgat: great video. i wonder what happens when you want to pull the bangs off your face (like in a high pony or bun)? it seems like a curly bang has to be pretty short in the center so I'm not sure it would reach long enough to get in my pony. the look is super cute on mel but I know ima end up with tufts sticking straight outta my head when I want to slick it back. or do you just never slick it back when you have bangs?

Christine Eliza: Please do a video on how to nap with curls. Without flattening them.

pink philic: The salons here in my country don't know how to work with curly hair. They always iron it first to be straight then

oldskoolrocker87: I have very strong cowlicks in the front and my hair can only be parted on the left side. Never mind on ever getting bangs.

Sayittomyface Idareyou: I'm doing it!! Thanks so much.
