Hi friends, Andrew Carruthers, here education, director for Sam via one of the big trends, we're seeing right now, is baby fringe and micro fringe. So we're gon na give you a little tutorial on how to achieve it quickly and easily and really have success, because it's a bit challenging first things. First, we really need to make sure that we set up the fringe for the haircut and that's to the blow-dry. So we're going to use just a little bit of water water. A lot of times is our best friend we're just gon na mist that, through with the continuous mist, bottle, we're gon na use the handle comb to distribute that through, because we want to break those little bonds back down so that as we blow dry, we can Get control over any types of growth patterns here in the fringe, then we're gon na grab our light professional ionic blow dryer, and I love this dryer for blow-drying fringe, because it's not so powerful that it's really gon na just blow her away with too much air. In her face, so we're gon na go on medium, airflow and high heat and we're gon na use the handle comb. The artist series handle comb and we're gon na really press this out so you're using the backbone or the spine of the handle comb to create tension against the head to stretch the hair out, especially when you're working with these micro fringe. If you don't get this thing, pressed out really perfectly it's gon na turn into a broomstick, and it's not gon na, be pretty so we're just gon na work that hair back and forth pressing it out with the backbone of that handle comb to really get control. Over any growth patterns and any kind of cowlick in the front, this is an awesome thing to teach guests in the salon too, especially those girls that come in and they're like you know, I'd love a fringe, but I really can't have one, because I have a Hard time with my growth pattern, as long as they're willing to put a little bit of time in with their blow-dry, anyone can really have a fringe. They just need to know this technique to press it out, really super smooth, so you're following right behind that comb. With the nozzle and again since it's on low airflow high heat, you can really polish this out nicely and the nice thing is even on high heat. You can see it's not so hot that it's gon na burn the skin, so you can be really really close to the head with it cool and that's great, that's right exactly where we want things to be now to set this up. We want to give ourself a bit of a guide, so we're going to take a couple of our dry cutting clips and the great thing with the dry cutting Clips. Is they have this urethane band within it and that urethane band will hold onto the hair? Really really tightly, but it's not gon na leave a crease and we're going to take just a nice little horizontal section across the fringe area and drop that down. Then we're just gon na take everything behind it and gently comb it off to the side and then we're gon na take that dry, cutting clip and place it in to hold it out of the way for the guide. We'Re gon na grab our five and a half inch streamline series shear now a lot of times. People are like well when you want texture, don't you want a big shear, but the texture is gon na, be really shallow here, we're just gon na kind of chew. The ends up so a smaller shears nice because we're gon na be working right, pretty much against the skin. So I'm not gon na. Have this huge shear in her face, so we're gon na go with the five and a half I'm just gon na. Take that comb get the hair into natural fall and then I'm going to put the blade right against her head now. Some people are uncomfortable to do that, so make sure you set that up with the guests say: hey just so. You know the back of my blade is going to rest against your skin. Are you comfortable with that and since we're above the eyebrow we're not really too worried about that, so we're gon na take and we're gon na place that in we're gon na work in the center first, so we're just going to start to gently gently point: cut The length away now look how short that is, but we're not having it pop out and explode out, because we took the time to really set up the blow right, and this is super aggressive. You know this is for that really kind of trendy young girl that won something. That'S a strong statement. That'S who's, getting these micro fringe and baby fringe looks currently and what's interesting. Is we're really seeing this resurgence of 90s type of fashion, and this is definitely a throwback to those 90s era - fringes where we were getting really aggressively short, think about TG and Tony and guy in the 90s, don't blow on your clients face he's getting a lot Of trouble for that, don't ask me how I know and then we're gon na continue out from the center, so you can see why it's important to start in the center. It helps me to get a balance side-to-side as you're working. It gives me something to look for as we work side to side all right, so that sets up the guide. So we take that clip out and we comb this down. So, if the guide set now we want to layer through the fringe, because a lot of times what we do is we bring everything down the natural fall, we cut it, a natural fall, and that makes things really heavy and we don't want this to be heavy. We want it to be light and soft and highly textured, so, instead of bringing it all down, the natural fall then using a lot of texturizing techniques to remove that way. Let'S remove the weight through the technique of layering. So now we're going to take vertical sections and we want to be really careful to take those vertical sections in relationship to how the hair Falls. So really look at the natural fall of the hair. We'Re gon na pick up that vertical section and we are gon na elevate that now to about 90 degrees horizontal and that's basically flat with the floor, and you can see underneath there we have the guide for length. So now all we do is we come through and we layer to that guide. So by doing this, what we're doing is we're taking the weight off of the upper surface. So, as that comes down, it doesn't all fall to a single point like we would cut one length hair and it gives the hair a nice softness and it gives it even a little bevel in towards the forehead. So this is a really great technique when you want that bevel and you want that texture so we'll continue with vertical sections again elevate to about 90 degrees, horizontal or just think parallel with the floor and we're again keeping with a real shallow nice soft point cut. Now a lot of times, you're gon na hear Sam, and I talk about the fact that this kind of real shallow, tedious point cutting, isn't necessarily beneficial to you. But in this particular case, because the hair is so short and it's so close to natural fall. That little bit of softness from that micro point cut is actually important. So again, vertical section elevate to 90 horizontal, find my guide from below and remove the hair, so our cutting line is vertical just straight up and down look at how nice that is, and we haven't really texturized there. We'Ve just layered and worked with a point cutting technique. So again, our big discovery recently is especially with these fringes, we're very rarely cutting fringe at low elevation or no elevation. We'Re choosing to layer through the fringes to keep them soft and to keep that texture and movement that we're seeing in trend right now and that's something that we're really seeing is gon na. Be strong for quite a few years is softness movement texture within the haircut haircuts. So these techniques are fantastic for keeping our guests on trend and make sure that you're the person delivering that information, because we always want to make sure that we're the experts for our guests in the salon. We don't want them to feel like they have to go to social media, to figure out what's happening in the world of fashion and trend. We want them to believe that we are the resource for fashion and trends. So again, look at that vertical finger angle and we're using what we call natural / direction, which just means that both sides of the sections are meeting in the center of the sections, we're not over directing to one side of the other to gain length. There'S just one little piece that I think I missed on the first pass, so we'll just trim that up now what's great about this is again most of the texture and movement has already built into the fringe, and it also has a nice bevel to it. There is a little bit of density that I want to remove, so we're gon na then go into our Signature Series. Invisablend shear, it's an incredibly soft shear. This is actually a polished surface. It'S not a sharp void. So when you cut with it, it allows hair to kind of slip through the blades a bit and it keeps everything really really invisible. That'S why we called it invisible and imagine that so we're gon na come in and just use the tips of the invisible end to come through and just gently remove a little bit of weight off of the very very tips of the hair, because we're really seeing These things be very, very light, very soft, very food and then just to add a touch more surface texture we're gon na grab one more shear we're gon na use. The artist series slide. Cutting shear this year is actually designed to allow hair to push through the blades a little bit as we cut so with this year as we come in as we cut the hairs gon na actually push out of the blades slightly. So it's fantastic for slide. Cutting any type of cutting technique that we're cutting with movement we've even found that we like point cutting with it, because it allows the hair to slip around and move, and so you can see by just working through the surface with the slide cutting shear. I'M not making big holes, it's just removing some texture, making some movement on that upper surface. Excuse me, man, sorry about the hair on your nose. I actually really like to keep a blow-dryer close by as I'm cutting fringe and you just keep it on cold, and so that way, as the hair is falling on her face, you can have it on cold. Just put it on medium heat. Just give it a little dust across there, the guests just definitely appreciate keeping that hair off of their face, so once we have that set in now, product on Fringe is so key because a lot of times, if we come in here - and we want to add Some texture and movement to this through the product selection. We don't want it to get oily so great product for us is red, khun's, dry, shampoo, paste, 0-5 and the reason for it is that it's half pasted, half dry shampoo. So, what's awesome is, I can get the separation of a paste, but you do have that dry shampoo in there. So it's not gon na get oily on her, so we're gon na emulsify that into our hands just a real small amount and I'm gon na. Take my fingertips and kind of take the product off of my palms and then use my fingertips to just come through. Add a little bit of texture and movement and you'll even see I'll kind of take my fingers and just kind of scrunch a little bit on that upper surface, which helps to define that upper surface texture so again to create these baby fringes and micro fringes. You really want to make sure you're, adding lots and lots of texture setting up with a fantastic blow dry, really pressing out that hairline and remember, if you want softness, if you want movement, stop texturizing and texturizing and texturizing and use the technique of layering to help. You get the movement that you want from the very beginning, thanks so much for watching hope. You got something you can use behind the chair. I'M Andrew Perez education, director for Sandia
