How To Cut Highly Textured Fringe/Bangs With A Razor

It's time to Vandalize the Fringe! In this technique, it's time to put down the comb and free hand with a razor to create an almost chewed-texture in the fringe/bangs. Fringes awaken shapes -- attack the fringe to really change up the cut!

Hi, my friends, let's talk about how do you create a little fringe that really fits with a pixie? In other words, let's vandalize the fringe? That'S right! Vandalize! Now, when you think of vandalize, your thing is something that's very chewed, textured really broken up. So now let's go in and do that to the fringe, so we're going to break it up working with our six gap. It'S real simple! I want you to put the comb down: don't use a comb you're going to work primarily with your index finger and your thumb pinching certain areas together, so the more clumpy or you want it, the more hair you're going to pinch together. So, let's take a look and see where we're at this is where we're at now and I want to take and start releasing length. So I'm just going to come over here to the side area. Okay pick up where I want my length, okay and then just come in and just work with a six cat. I find that when I work with a six gap notice how it gave me a little bit more of a chunkier type of piece to it because of the gap within each play within the blades, the gaps that you have you're able to create a little bit More chunkiness to it: okay, let's go back, grab a section again and now alter the links start to just to adjust the length and start really just going in and visualize this. So the reason we cut dry is for our purpose, not for the purpose of the client when cutting dry. You can actually start to see what's happening in terms of the edges of what you're creating just going in and once again, you can see how that section. Just fits into it and I get it a little bit more chunky. So what I'm trying to do is not make it so PC but make it more. Look like it's almost chewed, almost like it's got a little bit of chunkiness to it. It'S steppy, if anything, to it. Okay, working through now, I like to just kind of pull the top away and start working underneath you tend to. If you do that, what happens you might have late? That falls over it. You might like the link. This is what I mean by visualizing this and just see it as you go once again, just coming across notice. I just kind of set that section right into the gap of the blade and now I'm almost going to use it like a straight edge and just let it come off with that gap of the blade doing all the work to it. Okay and then I'm going to encourage you when you do this really take a step back. Excuse me, I'm going to take a step back and just start to look at the big picture when we're too close we're continually looking at the smallest picture, and you can really start to see just little pieces that you might have missed, come back and just start To take them away all right, let's move over to the opposite side, once again, just grabbing chunks of hair and coming through place it into our sixth gap. Now. Could I use Sam if I wanted to the straightedge with my guard? Yes, you could but you're going to get a little bit more of a softer edge to it. This is taking it a little bit more on a chunkier basis to it. Remember, where you place your razor and where you go in that's where that length is going to start to pop off start to think in variations of length? Okay, so I'm going to come up higher! Okay, I'm going to come up higher here! So I'm just going back through and just changing the visual of what I see. Okay, look at that depths that you see there in terms of that. Look how thick and how chunky that is. Let'S grab a section in the center of that just to break this up, and let's just take that. Okay, so really really visualize this all right. Now, let's bring down our excess length and start to see where we want to take that all right. So turn here start to grab. Let'S take the length off first then I can come back and I can just start to just really separate what I want to separate all right. It'S almost like you want to make it look like she cut it herself, but I have to be honest to tell you one of most difficult things to do is to make something look more casual, make something look more organic or like it's done by them. So it's much easier for us because of the way we're training to create something a little bit more balanced to precision. But when you create need to create something, that's a little bit more kind of undone. If you will or vandalized, then it's a little bit more difficult because it really requires your eye and it requires a touch now. There'S certain areas where you might see that you want to maintain length. Okay, let's go after this piece here, just going to leave that long first, I can always come back in and take that shorter if I want to any excess pieces just grabbing and taking them off now, just really starting to work. This imagine, if I put my shape factor in there, 22 look at the texture that you're getting out of that now, depending upon the personality, I really believe that that determines how short you can take something in regards to fringe a fringe could be a really fragile Area, but I also believe that fringe awakens a shape so anytime, you want to awaken the shape, just go and attack the fridge and you'll really change the cut up, but court was how it had a sense of tilting going to it moving over length. But now look how we've taken that length off, but yet it's almost really got this kind of chewy texture to it. I really believe that's where we're going to see fringe is going where you're seeing these fringes that are so blunt we've been doing that for a while. Let'S start to just chew up the edges, leave the heaviness to it. Look at there's some thickness to those areas. Don'T make it just PC and even piece enos going all the way through and you'll get a different kind of character to a short little pixie haircut and once again, let's come back through with our shape factor 22. I love this product, especially with my short, lower cuts, going to be a little bit more aggressive with it in terms of the amount that I'm going to use coming through. Emulsify warming up really nicely you'll, get a nice, even location and now just come in and start to work with your hands. So remember the more casual, the more carefree. This is the better it's going to look in regards to her personality and once again, just really an idea of going in and creating different types of texture working with a razor to create today's short little pixie haircut. Hope you enjoyed it. You

loz6702: Love love love this tutorial! I wish you would see this style more often

Nina Radley: I've always wondered how to do that. Thanks. For all the people being nasty, stop being so inside the box. Not every single one of your guests is going to be a blonde who wants long layers. Edgier styles come and goes, but you might as well have another tool in your tool box for when your guests ask for it.

B Zileski: Sam, can the same affect be attained with your standard (thin) cutting shear instead of this blade? I have had my fringe "vandalised" (or as I prefer to describe it, "hacked" ) - it was indeed more meticulous and took a little more time to finish, but to me, the ends of the hair appeared 'sharper' as a result (it is a noticeable sharpness that I prefer)... Also, another important thing I noticed... you didn't explain that its best to section (top half / bottom half) the fringe first... in order to add a layered affect. Thanks for this video nonetheless xxx

Cher Fauvél: great, but so in love with the first version! Just did it on my own :) Thanks Sam!

C J Chu: I love this cut. Something I would definitely wear in my younger years. Please do a short hair probably even a pixie for mature Asian woman with salt and pepper hair. I’m trying to imagine one for myself. Since Covid I decided to ditch hair color. The lockdown period allowed me to grow my greys out. Thanks very much. I love watching your videos.

megalopolis2015: This was fantastic. I got all sorts of visuals on how this cut could turn out. This gal pulls off this cut so well, too.

Taslima Akther: oooh, love this....can you do a tutorial where you do a fringe on someone that didn't have one before

Saify Uddin: Wow! This is so beautiful haircut, so feminine and makes her face look so soft and elegant

Pippa vom BR: I really love that you use a knife/blade. Its so hard in my hometown in germany to find a hairdresser that can do a haircut like this. It took me over 2 years to find someone. I went to so many hairdressers and ask around and only 2 out of 35 shops knew how to do it. Its sad.

G.L. Addington: I like this so much better than an asymmetrical hairstyle. It is perfect in its imperfection. Jaggedy. I have had pictures and every stylist wants to make me look like Betty White. That would be great if that was what I wanted. I’m 67 with white hair. I am a senior that doesn’t want the standard old lady hairdo. Really like your work. Still trying to find a stylist that will do it.

Kakijade Q: Love it Sam!  Going to do mine tomorrow! :) TY for the video.
