How To Tone Extensions To Match Your Hair Perfectly!

How to tone and shade extensions at home. I'm using Bellami extensions, with lace clips. ash blonde in #60 18 inch. Toning shampoo, shimmer lights by clairol. I also recommend the joico toning shampoo.

So In this video I show how to fix one of the most frustrating things to do with extensions. Finding the perfect shade to match your hair. To do so I use a toning shampoo which delivers a lot of purple pigments to leave the hair with beautiful ash tones. This has been what I found works best so thought I would share. I bought many extensions of the past, which were super high quality and especially if you buy them online, and you see that it's the blondest blonde and you think this will be great enough for me. I always find that if they never completely match to your own hair, which is a little annoying when you're like buying them, you know brand new and they're in another tip-top condition and they don't match right away. So it's a little knowing what I used to do is actually like. First time. I think I got extensions actually like highlighted them to make them brighter and that's the number one wrong thing to do. You always want to get extensions that are brighter than what you think you need, and then you can always tone or slightly darken or stain them. That'S much better for the hair than it is to bleach, never ever bleach extensions because they are when you buy them. They'Re prepared with a coating and that coating is ruined if you put bleach on them. So what I used to do is, I would put a like semi-permanent or like a toner over them, and extensions are a lot more porous or a lot more absorbent than natural Harris. The second you put on like toner or color. It takes right away, like I remember the first time I thought that you know it would be like toning or coloring hair, and I put it on and left it on for like 15 minutes, and it was like brown really dark and you see the brushstrokes. It'S really hard to get it on like super evenly kind of up like near, like the weft, where they like, connects to the clips and stuff. It'S really hard to get that seamless, and so what I've learned to do, which makes it a lot easier. A lot more like fluid and seamless is, I get like I said, the brightest color that they have and brighter than what I think I'll need, and then what I do is I'll. I use is a shimmer light, shampoo or anything that tones out blonde hair and on real hair it only like slightly it tones it, but on extensions it goes a long way. So the thing that I like about this, too, is that you're doing it in a shape like foam shampoo form, which is a lot easier to get on quickly and just to get it seamlessly. So what I do is grab a towel and lay it down and wet the hair first, so completely wet it. No shampoo, just wet it under like lukewarm water, then get that the toning shampoo put it in your hands, wet it a little bit. So it's kind of slightly diluted in your hands and just spread it all over, because the hair is wet. That makes it a lot easier for it all to blend and make sure to get it up in the West and everything lay it on that towel flat and when you lay it on a towel flat, you can see like where it's been, where it's taking color And what area you have missed? So that's the easiest best way, because this is like like when you, if you were doing it on a human head, you can completely see from root to end what it's looking like after about. I would only leave it maybe three to five minutes and after that, just rinse, and what I like to do. Two extensions, just kind of let them air dry make sure you condition them, because extensions can be sensitive, make sure you condition them rinse them once again and lay them on a towel rack. That'S my favorite thing to do so. Put it on another towel on a towel rack and just let that air dry, what this air dry, you can blow dry them from flatter in them or curl them, and you will have perfectly even toned extensions and what I love about the toda shampoo is that It delivers only a little bit of color and that's like the perfect amount for extensions because of, like I said, extensions, take in a lot more color than natural hair does so and then you were left with perfectly even more ashy extensions, which is really really hard To find - and I found that with this method, you can sometimes even buy less expensive extensions only because I've noticed on some websites when they have a like a smaller selection of colors, that prices tend to be a little more affordable. So I've gotten away with getting some more affordable extensions as long as I tell them after so I hope this helps and have lots of fun toning, your extensions and finally having tensions that completely match your hair. Thanks for watching. As always, please subscribe give us a thumbs up if you found this helpful and I'll see you in the next video. Thank you and don't forget to watch my new video every Monday.

bex: I adore your hair color. I am slowly lightening my hair to get to that color. I love the shimmer lights. It helps keep my highlights fairly bright and definitely helps remove some of the more brassy tones. Just a quick question.... what is the eyeshadow you used in this video? I know it is off topic from what the video is about, but it is so pretty. Thanks! :)

anamobaz: I am so going to try this. You look gorgeous as always, thanks for all the great tips :)

Elle Is For Living: Excellent tips!  I use the Shimmer Lights red shampoo on my blonde hair (which I am panicked about as I heard they are discontinuing the red!!!) but that makes complete sense to use it on extensions as well.  Great tips.  ♥ Elle

Janet Schwartz: Great video! Can I use the Naissant toning conditioner as well? How long would I leave that in the extensions? You are my guru, Silvia. I would've never even tried extensions if it wasn't for you. Now at 62 years old I'm wearing them for the first time!

Susanne - RangerMommy: The best thing I've found for toning bleached extensions is Roux Fanci-Full color mousse in 2 to 3 different shades of blonde to blend them.  It's an old school product but it works beautifully. (not associated in any way).  Thanks Silvia, I thought I was the only one having problems matching extensions with toner and color.

Evelyn S.: Thanks for this tip!! Love your videos!

Gwynneth Smith: Thank you!!! I was trying to thing about what toner I need and I didn't even think about a toning shampoo. Great vid!

Solovely: Hair is lookin GOOD in this video! Love all your helpful videos Silvia.

Melissa M: What is the easiest and best way to brighten hair extensions? I have extensions that have an orange tint to them and they're about a shade dark when I try to use the purple shampoo to tone them. I don't want to damage them by bleaching. Any ideas??

wren horton: i love your videos and you've helped inspire me to do hair for a living... thanks!

Katie Katz: I bought mocha brown hair extensions at Luxy. It's a bit "warmer" than my natural hair. My natural hair is a dark brown, but a little more ashy. What's the best way to fix this problem?

Dawn Parr: Hi! I had a question I hope you can help me with! I have extensions that are around a 4 or 5 brown but they have a hue of auburn that I hate. I want them to be more ash. I actually put a 8ash and a 10 neutral ash demi on them last night, it took maybe a tiny bit of the red away but what could i put on them while keeping the integrity of the hair good? Thanks in advance!!

Lauren Calcari: Hey girl!! I was wondering is this shampoo something you can find at a beauty supply store? I have the same exact extensions only mine are 24 inches there from bellami and there ash blonde. Id like to do what you did to yours because your color is gorgeous!! And I'm hoping this is something I won't screw up on my brand new extensions! Thanks for making this video it's very helpful ❤️

Raising Lane: Can I do this on tape in extensions before I put them in my hair?

Love2Sparkle: AHHHH!!!!!!   PLEASE HELP!!!! I <3 your channel plus your a bay area girl, but I just recently tried your method of toning out the gold in the 618 hair extensions and now they are purplish grey. lol. any suggestions on how to salvage them? :) thanks

Erin Howard: Very helpful thank you

twominutetips: Thanks for this.  As gray extensions are almost non-existent except in China, Is there any way to take the lightest or brightest blonde and using this method to turn them into a low light gray?  Thanks

TheElfin24: Hi Silvia, wondered if you could answer a tech question for me?? Can you tell me in an "idiots guide" style what, if any, is the difference to oxidant creams and hydrogen peroxide in relation to using it for toners.  I have a Loreal Dialight 10.12 and guy at Sallys told me to get the cheap generic 3% HP to use with it but in the instructions it mentions about Loreal Oxidant product. He told me not to get a large bottle as it goes off pretty quick, so more eco to get small generics.  Is this right? What is the difference, and is the stuff I got ok?? Thanks so much lovely! xo Joan xo

Chloe Richardson: Is the hair extensions in the video been toned already? or is that the colour they come as? thankss

Tara Barbosa: Ive bought a color #60 hair extensions but they dont match with my blonde that is a medium golden blonde (level 8). What color should i dye my extensions?! Xoxo

xDrive Krackiis: I love your videos ! :)

Any S: My extensions took all the color in like 2 minutes!!!! They are silvery and don’t match my creamy white hair

Aaron Parraz: Hi I washed my extensions with purple shampoo for three minutes and it turned them grey what do I do?

Alicia: Thank god i looked at the comments on this! Alright everyone so not sure if they changed something in their hair product but you ONLY LEAVE THE PURPLE SHAMPOO ON FOR A COUPLE SECONDS MAX!!! Or it will turn your blonde hair purple. Go little by little and if you need to you can always tone it again.

Kheperii: I've bought two packages of Bellimi hair extensions in the brightest blonde because my hair is almost white-blonde and I cannot seem to tone these properly. I've used both Unite Blonda Shampoo and AG Silver Shampoo. The hair refuses to go to the blonde that I am and I'm using the same technique you mentioned. I'm so lost as to what to do!

ineedhoez: It is easier just to put the purple shampoo in a big pot of water (or fill up your sink). Dunk the extensions in there. You get coverage all over. The wefts absorb as well. You can dunk as man times as you need to get the color you want. When I buy really cheap extensions, I let it sit in the sink for an hour or more.

Alicia Elliott: @ellebangs does this work on brown extensions?

TheElfin24: PS what's the toner you've got in your hair at the moment as I love it??!!! Joan

MaJenta DiMauro: i used this tip and they turned blue so i had to bleach them and now i’m back at square one lol

Chloe Thorn: Would this work on brown hair extensions? X

bbycakes73: I love your new color! So blonde

Annameita: I wish I could tolerate the smell of the Shimmer Lights... )':

Stephanie Villafana: Hey, I over toned my extensions now they have purple stains. How can I fix them?

TheBombshellSuite: Not only are the extensions not ashy enough for me....I have problems with every brand because my hair is only heavily foiled so there is dimension of other tones throughout my hair from years of foiling mixed with my natural hair color.....solid colored extensions just don't look that realistic mixed in with my hair!! I have tried so many brands. I am taking the newest ones I have to my stylist to see if maybe lowlights and toning will work.  Have you done this?? xo

Chelsea Coleman: How do you get your hair like flipped away from ur face?

Alexiah Valenzuela: Help .. I just got some bellami ash blonde they are too light for me I went to the beauty supply and they told me to put a golden blonde I did and now they are gray!!

lilith Jones: iv got #60 real hair extentions which are ashy ..how can I remove the ash?? so they are more a platinum colour??

Daytonabeachgrl: How donu put in extension? Do u have video?

Ciri Hime: I need help, I got long 26inch straight extensions and their slightly darker then my real hair, and my real hair is long (about to chest length) and it shows under my extension (I have one piece full head extensions) what should I do to makr it look morw natural, I cant message on YouTube so if you may message me on kik and help me I would appreciate ~ mercedesdarkangel

Shaker Ragish: Hey beautiful girl where are u from I love ur accent

kelsgrayjay: I did this and over toned my extensions,  my ends are white/grey...how do I add more golden tones back into them?

Cristina Demian: U look like Shakira !
