Welcome to today's tutorial welcome back to the bathroom, welcome Audrey to the bathroom. I'Ve decided that she needs to follow me wherever I go. She is my inspiration and she fits perfectly back there, so I'm excited to have her with us. I'M excited to do this. Bang blowout tutorial, and I am excited to provide some information to you. That may be an epiphany. It was for me. I was searching just the other day on determining what your face shape is and how you figure that out and there are tons of blogs and websites and images and whatnot. Anyway. I came across one that was very informative and, as it turns out, I am NOT the face shape. I thought I was my entire life. I'Ve thought that I'm an oval. I am NOT an oval, I'm a triangle. How did I come to figure this out? Well, it has to do with a series of measurements and I'll provide a link to this blog that I found, but basically what you're doing is you're measuring your forehead from the widest point and that's why my hair is slicked back. So you go from hairline to hairline on the forehead at the widest point. You then measure your cheek area hairline to hairline across the nose with a tape measure. I mean you're basically doing this you're going like this and then you're going like this to come up with that number and then you're measuring your jawline, which goes from your jaw under the lip all the way to your jaw. And then you are measuring the length of your face, which goes from the hairline to the chin, as it turned out. If you are an oval face, the length is greater than the jaw, the cheekbone in the forehead. Well, my greatest number was the jaw followed by the cheekbone the length and then the forehead. So, theoretically, it's more of a triangle which is really interesting because then what you do is you go online and you start googling best hairstyles for your face, shape and no surprise for a triangle face shape, because the emphasis is so much on the lower part of The face you want to balance it with more height and volume up in here, which is why a little bit more fullness toward the top and the sides and taper it a little bit is better for me. So it's basically the anti triangle. The last thing that I want is flat and then without here so anyway, that that's fascinating and so I'll be curious to see what you discover. Maybe you find out, you are what you've thought you've been, or maybe you realize that you're a new shape. They also list celebrities who have that similar face shape and then again you can start searching hairstyles. But I just I find that fascinating that I'm 50 years old and I just figured out I'm a triangle anywho. So now the blowout and I'm just going to my hair's wet clean, I'm just gon na put in a couple of products before I go. I'Ve got sexy hair for fifty blow out really really good heat protectant. So I just spray that fall over most specifically on my ends. I have living proofs blowout and this one is a really good sort of texturizer. So I section my hair and I will spray now the key to applying product. Is you avoid your bangs? Don'T get your bangs full of product because then you've got that. There'S something about Mary thing going and that's not a look. Any of us is going for, okay and by the way product hack, if you do not have any type of a blowout spray. But you want to get a little bit of lift grab your hairspray like so, and then you can use your hairspray as a root lifter when your hair is wet. By doing the very same thing you section off areas and just spray a little bit of hairspray, where you want lift most of us, want that in the crown, so you can use your hairspray too right mean. Who knows that's probably what half of this stuff is, anyway, it's probably hairspray being sold as a blowout spray. Okay, so now that we've got that part down, the next thing is your brush. Brushes I have to. I have always talked about having firmly packed bristles. Very very important when you have wavy curly hair, because you need something to help pull the hair straight. The other thing is and we'll go over this technique as we're blowing out bangs. But the last thing you want to do is use a big round brush coming forward to create that sort of that that bang ku thing or we want our bangs nice flat and sleek. So we'll talk about that technique and you need, of course, a high-powered hairdryer that kicks out a lot of heat. I'Ve always been a Elgin fan. I still have this one, don't know the model number, but what I do know is that any Elgin brand will do and there are many other types on the market. I'M not I'm not loyal. Again, it's just the heat and the power that you need. So let's get started, and the first thing we're gon na do is just get the moisture out of our hair, so I'm just pushing everything forward and then the crown I flip from side to side. That'S how you get volume back here. Take it pull it one way and then take it and pull it the other and just bring all of this forward. So now, if you're doing a a full-on straight across bang blowing, it forward like that is the first major step and then you're going to reinforce that with a brush. Now, the key, like I said, is not starting here and going all the way forward. It'S it's more of a lift and a side-to-side motion. This pour it straight down now, that's something that you will continue to do if you want, like, I said, a full-on straight bang! Look if you do what I do, which is a little bit more of a a side, part bang and a bit of a curtain sweep the next step is to now go back with it so and I'm pulling my dryer all the way through to the end Same on this side, so what's happening is I'm now creating a part with a bang sweeping forward and then just going straight up to get any kind of a curl or a bend out and now, if you like to wear a little lift, this is where you Go in with your brush again right on that part line where you feel you need to lift a lot of heat at the route, put a pull through just let it sit and cool for a little bit, and then you will get tons of volume on the Top of your head see like so, and you can go all the way back along your part line or wherever it is. You feel you need some volume and continue that that cool and then just pull it through. So here we go and I'm just doing the front area right now, and I will finish but again, this gives the bang a sweeping effect. You still have it. You can still pull it in front of your eyes, but you also have options. If you want a little bit more of a side-swept bang, you can take it and you can carry it off to the side. So that's one thing that I like about this technique and especially if you're not sure how committed to bangs you are or want to be, you can go with a longer bang. You can still wear it straight down, but if you want a sort of bang, look you can take it, sweep it to the side, pull a few pieces forward or you can even use a little bit of hairspray and lift and kind of tuck those to the Side for an even longer side, bang look! So what I like to show you is, you have options, you are not stuck with something, but the key is a little bit of length in the bang area, especially if you have wave or curl or anything that just makes them shrink right back up. And if you wear them straight, then you just pull them forward and if you find that they're a little bit too long, then what you can do is you can just hit it right in the crown, with a little bit of height right there. So you're not curling the bang around the brush you're just kicking that brush right up here in the root you're going to hit that with some heat and then that's gon na help give this a little bit of a lift. So it shrinks back up a bit. But anyway, that is how you style a bang again, it's more of a side motion than an up and forward motion, but but you got options so I'm going to continue the blow-dry and you'll see the finished. Look! Okay, so the blowout is complete, and just because you have bangs doesn't mean that you can't utilize things like curling, irons or velcro rollers or things to create lift and style. So I'm going to pop in a few velcro rollers, just to get a little bit more. Lift up here in the crown - and I just sort of take it along my my part line here - grab a section wrap it around the roller again. These are not hot rollers, they are velcro rollers. The only heat is the heat that you'll apply from your blow. Dryer, so I hit the root with a little hairspray and do the same just right up here. I'M not gon na do the whole bang, but just a little bit of the bang that kind of rest behind, and so it's really just more of a kickback here. For the root, that's right, and then one roller in the back for the crown okay same thing, take your hairdryer and just hit the roof, and while that cool I'm going to take a smaller little brush that heats up a smaller little brush the heats up. And I'm going to flip out the ends a little bit just up front, and so these have now cooled off. I'M just gon na pop them out it's lightly brush, don't brush out too much because remember we got lift and volume and then you just take it and piece it exactly how you want it, and so what I figured out and discovering that I'm a triangle is That I need width up in this area in here to balance out here, so I had a few extra layers cut in in here, so that this isn't hanging long and pulling against my jawline and filling it out in here. In fact, it's keeping that a little bit wispier and this a little bit fuller up top. So it's amazing what you discover when you do a little research and figure things out anyway, you're, never too old, to learn something moral of the story and that's it and then, once everything is as you want it, you just set it and call it a day And, like I said, you see how I made a side part bang quickly or I can pull it forward. But again you have lots of options and having that little velcro roller right here gave me enough lift so that if I do wear it forward, it's not sitting flat in my eyes. So that's that's the trick. Milady'S! Okay done. I hope you enjoyed this and found it helpful. I will be so curious to find out if your face shape is what you thought. It was what research you do, what you discover about yourself and the types of styles that seem to suit you best and it's not just suiting face shape, but it's also suiting hair type, curly kinky straight thin, thick many factors to consider that when you do get It right it's like yeah, okay, comment suggestions below for the next video. I always listen to what you have to say and I follow your lead. I do you lead me on this journey. I thank you for that. So go out this week. Be bold, be blessed! Happy hairstyling and I'll see you in a week bye,

Curly , smooth, short, long, with more or less volume ...I haven‘t seen a hairdo on you yet, that didn‘t suit you well!

Bulldogedc_hanks: I recently found your channel and absolutely love your videos! Would love if you did a full face drugstore makeover for mature skin. I am sure you have done them in the past, but something with recent products would be fantastic. And, something geared towards people like me, that have no clue on how to apply makeup (in my 40's but never really learned proper technique and completely lost)

Charity Milam: Wow, that is so interesting! I've never known what face shape I have and always assumed I am round, but I am a triangle just like you! Jaw is my greatest length, followed by cheeks, face, then forehead. I also think it's interesting that all four of my measurements are whole numbers. Thank you very much for sharing this. Love your videos!

Beth: Great information - thank you! Just love your blog, and look forward to it each week. So, it turns out that I'm a triangular face shape too. Although, I don't fall exactly into that category because my cheek width and jawline are pretty much equal. It still helps though, and explains why I prefer to keep my hair short (jawline or a little longer), and need a little lift on the top.  PLEASE share the eyeshadow colors you are wearing! I have green eyes also, and the purplish shades are so pretty, but can be tough to use without looking too overdone or colorful. Looks great on you!  Thanks again for sharing your wonderful energy and wisdom with us all!

Lori Cogsdale: Seems like you have become an overnight sensation. I have been with you since the beginning and cannot believe how quickly your channel has grown! CONGRATULATIONS!!! Absolutely love all your videos!!!

I learned how to do side swept bangs from your video last year very helpful. I even showed a friend that video to help her. Just spreading the love! Thank you so much Dominique

Kathy Murphy: You do listen! Thank you for Bang Blowout video. Great tips and exactly what I was hoping to see. Your side swept bangs always look so good. Thanks again. Signed: Loyal Fan

Kathy Van: Great instructions, thank you! I'm not an oval.....I'm a triangle. Same hair type as you, same cut. Need side layers cut in. I'm 67 and you're the first to teach me how to do "bangs"! Blessings to you and yours.

Michelle Hollingsworth: Love your hair tutorials. I, too, have fine, crazy curly/frizzy hair and have been so frustrated now that I'm working out almost every day. Will you do a video on how to deal with post workout hair? I hate having to wash & style it so often since it dries it out so quickly. :/

Nicole Rubio: Dominique, your videos are great. Thank you for sharing your routine secrets, you’re beautiful! Great job

KM: Once again another fantastic vid! LOVE your eyeshadow! Demo please

Sophie Larches: So helpful thank you so much for your brilliant tutorial

Dianne Fischer: Ha! I've always thought my face shape is oval. No it's triangle. Now I can prove that hairstyles that are flat on top or flat iron straight look bloody awful on me. I have lots of dry coarse curly hair and I love my big hair. The height is also extremely important! Thank you for your blow out tutorial.

Jen Schrock: I love her hair tutorials! She has the best techniques (i think). She has great hair!

Eleanor's Montana Life: Dominique, I recently subscribed to your channel and am going back through some of your videos. I took my face measurements and am stunned at what I learned!! Because my forehead is very long, I had always thought I had an oval or triangular face, but when I pulled my hair back and took measurements, I learned that my face is actually square, and my facial length is the same as my cheek and jawline measurements! What a revelation! Looking at pictures of women with square faces, they are the same women that I think are most beautiful, Sharon Stone and Diane Sawyer among them. Now I know why I think they are so pretty! You have completely changed the way I look at my face, much for the better. Thank you!!

Marty Davis: You are the reason I let me bangs grow out and then trimmed them again! Love your hair tutorials on bangs ....have finally learned how to manage them! Thanks so much for sharing! Would love to see a makeup tutorial soon on the colors you are wearing ...looks like plums!?

Bonnie Wiegand: Dominique thank you so much for sharing that. For years I always thought I had a round face. Everyone always told me I did. I have always been on the heavier side so I think that is why. But, after I did the measurements, I have an oval face shape. What a surprise to me! Took me till 44 to find that out thanks to you. Now I can find out what hair style and makeup will look best on my oval face. Thanks again for sharing. I really enjoy your channel.

This Bull Rocks: hey Dominique - thanks always for the tutorials - my hair has been really short for awhile and I am a klutz with hair - you inspired me to grow it abit and now I am at your length - so I tried before the bang trick - I was doing the underneath blow - now I realize what to do - thankyou - I am 60   - so yes never to old to learn new things - I saw a woman yesterday who had completely white hair with an undercut - she was so stylish - so of course I complimented her on her look

Judy Tax: I love your hair! You make it look so easy!

Syls_ewenique_knits: Beautiful as always!  I've recently cut my hair to just a bit longer than yours and I find the information in this video very helpful!! Thank you again!!

Tati Hagerty: Love your eye look in this video. Please do a tutorial. XOXO

Lynn Carmichael: Hey Dominique, thanks for all the great videos! I wanted to comment just so there wasn’t too much confusion on how you measure your face. In the video it appeared as if we were to measure our face with the tape measure, across the curve of the face. I believe the article you posted, and others I’ve seen, intend for you to look into a mirror and mark or note the widest part of your face in the mirror. You will be measuring a flat line on the mirror, not a curved line across your face. This way your numbers aren’t skewed by the size of your nose or the depth of your chin. You take the measurements from a one dimensional picture of your face in the mirror, not from the three dimensional shape of your actual face. I hope that makes sense. It’s good information and very helpful advice to know your face shape and how your hair style can enhance certain features. Thanks again for all the great hair and makeup videos. Lynn

Norma Garnica: I love your videos!! Thank you for always giving me inspiration.

Diana Perkins: Hi Dominique, I just ran across your YouTube channel tonight for the very first time. I am addicted! You are so beautiful, smart, sincere and I appreciate all of your helpful tips. I loved hearing that a couple of your favorite products were from Rodin and Fields. I am an RF consultant and while I have a little knowledge about skin care , my hair is another story. Can’t wait to wash and blowout my hair tomorrow morning and hit the stores for products on my way home from work. Thank you so much, I look forward to seeing many more videos

Melissa Foster: Thank you! Love this. Im horrible with my hair. Now, off to measure my face.

Ms Kitty: Thank you so much for the bang tricks, so wonderful! I will have to show my hairdresser, he does it the way you said not to do. Haven't gotten to face shape but so interesting. Blessings to you.

Lisa Freeman: Love! Just one thing. The instructions are to measure across the flat surface of the mirror as you stand in front of it to get the face measurements. So you are measuring flat in 1 dimension not 3 dimensional.

Janet Hagy: Love the eyeshadow look!

Susan Elwell: Love the face shape info! Can you list specific info on the brushes? I have curly hair and need a good brush for blowing out the bangs. Thank you!!

Minoes Ruiter: I believed to have an oval face shape but my face is an round shape. Learned something new again today. Thank you for this video!!

Anni Mu: I decided to cut my hair and must have looked through a million pictures and YouTube channels until I discovered your channel. I wish I had found you sooner!!! I'm in the military and my hair has been a pain in the butt for a long time. I have to put it up daily and when I'm not in uniform, I wear it in a ponytail -- boring! Aziza Hakimi: Love the hairspray idea on wet hair!

Julie E.: Especially love your hair tutorials! Could you give us an update on your keratin treatment? Do you continue to do them? Your hair texture seems naturally less curly and frizzy. I’ve been considering doing it myself but wanted to know what the maintenance is like. Thank you.

ProudKansan08: When I was in beauty school in 1980-81, our textbook described the types of haircuts and hairstyles to do depending on the shape of the face. The book didn't tell you HOW you are to determine the face shape, however. How interesting I am watching this now!! And it suddenly brought back the memories of beauty school textbooks! LOL! Love your videos, just like everyone else. So informative. Just found you two months ago and got my hair cut again last week, so hopefully, I can use some of your techniques for my hair. Its still too new for it to do anything with it yet, BUT, I noticed yesterday, after letting it air dry, my hair FINALLY looked good, so, my hair is on its way to getting used to the cut!! YAY!! Going to start trying the techniques on my hair now. AND OMG!!!!!! ALWAYS thought I had an oval face shape. My Mom always said I got my oval-ish, oblong-ish face from my Dad. So, I did the measurements twice to make sure. At first, my face didn't go with ANY of the face shapes and I was a little confused as to why my measurements didn't go with any face shape, and then I scrolled down. I have NOW found out I have a DIAMOND shaped face!! Never would have guessed that in a MILLION, TRILLION years!! Wow!! How interesting.
