Hi everyone Welcome back to my channel. And, as you can tell by the title of this video, the probably most requested video of the year is here.. So the last time that I did a video on my root, color and toner formula, because you guys had been asking a lot about like what had changed about my hair and in that video. I said that maybe I could do a babylight video next, which is all that I do to my hair now on the roots.. All I do is a hair color touch-up about every 4 weeks. And then about every two months. I do a babylight, which is what I have on here., I'm gon na start by saying that this process is extremely easy.. I would say that even an inexperienced person could attempt this., But now I do have to say that when using bleach on your hair, it can be quite dangerous. You can melt your hair off., So I would just say if you are gon na be doing this on yourself. Just do some research before., I am gon na be doing this on myself and I will be showing you step-by-step. I'll, also be sharing my formulas now. This doesn't necessarily mean that this is what would work for you. And it's kind of impossible for me to tell you exactly what would work for you, because we are all starting off with a different canvas., All right guys, let's just get into it., Okay, starting off With our dark base and for our lightening formula, I'm going to be using 1/2 ounce of the Redken flash lift and I'm gon na be using 1 ounce of the 40 volume.. I am going heavier on the developer, because I want a runnier formula. For babylights. I feel that that works best for me.. So then, I am just weaving out very fine babylights and we are just going to be working in a cross sections like you see me, do here. And I'm just gon na be doing about 5 to 6 foils on the top of the head.. This is really just the topped kind of soften up your roots. So grabbing the next section, and because I am doing such fine babylights, I am doing back-to-back foils. And so on areas here where it looks a little bit too thick. I just go in and weave out some pieces just to make it a little bit more subtle and a little bit softer. And applying that lightener just to where the hair is darker, of course, and making sure to leave out the hair that has been previously lightened.. So now in the middle here I do like to leave a section out.. This really just depends on how much lightness you want, but I still want my dark base to be the most prominent., And so we are doing the exact same thing with the next few foils. All right. So now, I'm just gon na add a couple of panels to the back of my head and working in the back, of course, is a lot more difficult when you are doing this on yourself.. So this is why I'm only gon na be doing two foils and you can be a little bit heavier handed with the weaving of these babylights. Just because the hair in the back has a lot more movement., Meaning that the hair moves and separates a lot more.. So the lightened pieces don't end up looking as thick., Then I go ahead and let this process for about 25 minutes and then I can rinse off the lightener from my hair.. Olive, though, is so curious when I have foils on the top of my head. Okay. So I've rinsed the lightener from my hair.. Now we are moving on to the root tap portion of this tutorial and for that formula, I'm going to be using a mix of the 6N shades EQ and I'm doing a quarter ounce of that and then a quarter ounce of the shades EQ processing solution.. You really don't need much, as this is only a root tap., So we're gon na go over those babylights and really just tap at the root just softens the beginning of that babylight and just makes it look of that much softer.. You still get a little bit of lightness at the root.. This just gives it that lived in rooted, look and makes it look just so natural.. So I'm just gon na let this process for another 20 minutes and then I'm gon na go ahead and shampoo and condition my hair out and we are done. And here are the finished results. And you can see almost that sun kissed babylight look at the root, But it still looks really soft, where you could barely see where those babylights start and where the balayaged pieces begins. Olive, is over. It she's just excited that all the chemicals are gone. All right. I hope you enjoyed that and there's been so many requests for this video and I've obviously touched up my hair so many times since being on YouTube and every time I do it. I always think like I should film this.. So I just hope this video was helpful and if anything enjoyable. So don't forget to leave your video requests. ... the year is coming to an end, and I have some holiday kind of hairstyles videos coming.. But leave me what you guys would like to see. Next. All right, thank you so much for watching.! I love you and I'll. See you in the next one. Bye.

ellebangs: Guys, I'm now offering Virtual Consultations to help with all your hair questions and color formulations - To learn more, go to ellebangs.com/consultations

Spilulu Lily: She’s the only hair stylist who shows us how to do our hair on our own without going to a stylist

Rachael B: I used this method in quarantine and my hair turned out SO GOOD. Thank you so much!

Kat Castro: Been watching you for years. I now do my own hair like a pro, using store-bought products! Everyone asks who does my hair and can't believe when I say I do! Thanks, Silvia, you are epic. Congrats on your pregnancy :) xoxo

glittery_cucumber: My first attempt months ago turned out pretty chunky, but that's because I was impatient. I tried it again last night and the key really is to bleach the teeny tiniest strands of hair and just take your time. It honestly looks amazing, I'm so in love with my hair now!

louise sanders: I did this today and it turned out perfect! I used 20 volume developer because my natural base is a 6-7. Silvia is using 40 volume because her natural level is very dark. Use whatever volume developer you need for your natural hair level. This is by far the best highlight tutorial on YouTube. Thank you

Lori M.: I am a colorist to my Core! I love that you do your own, as I do having breakage from ( another stylist) once I went to total light blonde, I said never again, I’d already been foiling my own for years—so once again I did my own. I get exactly what I want and prevent any further damage thanks for the video, just super cool that you do your own. I feel like you wear your passion!

Clara Saiz de la fuente: “Even an inexperienced person could attempt to do this” ... y’all, quarantine me is about to become a hairdresser

Kylea O'Connell: You are an excellent teacher! Your videos are easy to follow and the results I've had are fabulous. I wish I could include a pic because my babylights turned out beautifully! Thank you for taking the time to put these videos together!

Lydia Chan: I followed this tutorial about a month into quarantine (back in April) and it worked beautifully! Thanks so much ❤️

Sherri Johnson: I've used your method a few times now and honestly it comes out great every time. You are the baby lights Queen!

benji18111: Your hair is absolute goals! I just love you :) your gorgeous, and I love how kind you are sharing all your secrets and tips. I went to hairdressing school but it was 20 years ago, I haven`t practised it for years. Thanks to you Sylvia, I am learning again. Thanks lovely.

Joan Gentile: Absolutely beautiful, Sylvia!! You did a great job!! ❤

Krista Sermon: Thank you so much for your videos! I just finished doing mine with a few extra foils and LOVE how it came out!

candace rose: omg she makes it look so easy!! I really wanna try this but don’t wanna mess up my hair

Jennifer Joyal: This is the best your hair has ever looked IMO. Great tutorial, I’ve tried it a few times now and it turned out great. Thank you!

DeeGeeDoll: Easy DIY babylights- beautiful and perfect Me: (orange patchy hair) nailed it!

Miss Meesh: I went to cosmetology school AND worked as an assistant but still felt clueless with color. I ended up just cutting/styling hair and I’ve learned more from your channel than I have in years. I used your tips on my own naturally black hair and I’m on my way to blonde and feel confident now in implementing color into my career. Thanks for sharing and going into detail, your channel has saved me!!

Candice: A big thank you for this video!! Although I wasn't as graceful as you, I'm super happy with the end result on my first try! Also many thanks for showing how to do the back of the head yourself. I used Loreal Feria Very Platinum and didn't have my usual brassiness issue.

Ria Rich: I’m a heavy highlighted blonde and learned soooo much watching your videos! Thanks for sharing your knowledge ❤️

Danielle Daly: So easy!! Looks likes I came straight out the salon. Cannot thank you enough for this video!!

Megan Malicki: Thank you so much for this wonderful video! Just before quarentine, I paid $350 to a professional stylist who ended up literally melting 8 inches of my hair off so Im doing my own hair for a fraction of the cost thanks to you

E Espo: You inspire me and give me the confidence I need to tackle the things that make me second guess myself when I'm behind the chair. Thank you for being such a great mentor to your fans. xo

April Dawn: Wow! You are just beyond amazing. Thank you for blessing us with your knowledge. I am a licensed hairstylist, I have chosen to no longer do hair anymore and I love what you teach. I will be using your techniques on myself and my gratitude for you is beyond word. God bless you, sweet lady!

Kaysha Dotson: I watched a few hours of your hair tutorials and information and wanted to say thank you! I did my own hair for the very first time and it looks awesome! I seriously like it just as good if not better than going to the salon. I just moved to a new area and so I was having a hard time finding a new stylist after moving out of state.

Monique Bevan: Honestly you are so amazing, you’re the only hairstylist making videos that help people who do their hair at home, without any judgement. I recently found a hairstylist on YouTube who was so talented but made really snarky comments about people who do their hair at home and I just ended up unsubbing. I’ve been watching your videos for years and you are so skilled and a genuinely lovely person, keep up the great work

Anna Peralez: A million thank you’s for this video!! I’m so picky with my hair and I’m 90% unhappy with how stylists have done my hair in the past. $200 for each appointment with not getting exactly what I want has been so frustrating. I can’t wait to try it for myself. I’ve been wanting to do my own hair for years and you and I have the same natural hair color, so this is perfect. Can’t wait to provide an update with how it goes. Thank you so much!! Xo

Birdie Curry: I’m in Cosmetology school. I need to do this. I highlighted my hair myself splitting back in two sections, using the back combing method. It looks great. I did put in a few highlights on top with a face frame. But need more highlights on top and crown area. Going to try! Great video!

M Gill: Thanks very much, for taking the time to demo the sectioning/foiling baby lights. Especially the back. Especially appreciated your list of the Redken supplies. Although my hair color natural base is med brown, level 5/6, and quickly shifts to orange, your approach and tutorial will help me work through that. Especially with using a 40 vol developer, I can 'bump' the lights, through that awkward "orange' level, & through to blond-er. Thanks again. I subscribed.

Sininho Gimenes: Seu cabelo é lindo! obrigada pela legenda em português

Amber Rose booders: I've literally been watching you for years and years, you've taught me so much in these 5-6 years or more!

A Nichols: I finally worked up the courage to try this after watching numerous times to make sure Id get it right.. thank you for posting the tutorial, I would have never had the guts to try this without it!! It was/ is very cool of you to share these tutorials with us I will continue to follow and share with others THANK YOU!

Cae: Looks great! I like how natural it seems and is. I’m a natural red head and thinking of doing something like this tonight. A little less colour though and more towards the tips. Thank you for the great tutorial video!

Beauty by Jorge: Awesome video. I love that you share all your knowledge. I had never seen a woman do her own highlights. That’s pretty amazing. And you’re an excellent teacher!!

Aggie: I did this with 20 volume (my base is a little lighter, between 5/6) and it turned out great. I didn't even have to do the root tap. Just bleach and purple shampoo. Thank you for this tutorial!

Pink Romero: I love all your tips!! It has helped me understand the process of my hair coloring

Quezia: Incrível, parabéns!

Grace: This was in no way easy, but helpful and it actually worked, thank you

Norma Anguiano: Thank you! I was so scared to do this on my own hair but looks really easy.

Amy Taint: Thank you, Silvia!! This video LOADED with helpful info, like how often you color and whether it’s the base or the lightened hair. Especially appreciate your placement and formula advice! Your finger is always on the pulse of the most desired haircolors and you share so generously, thank you again! From your videos I now cut and color my own hair getting the unique look I could get from no one else no matter how many hairdressers I went to and no matter what pictures and words I used to explain what I wanted. You’re funny, kind, generous and so talented - love you right back, sweet, beautiful lady!!

Joan Gentile: Beautiful haircolor!! I love it!! Thank you, Elle!! ❤

Mary Teixeira: Ficou muito bonito e muito bem feito ! parabéns !

Brooke Inspired: Just a huge thank you. I did my root color and highlights on myself as a stylist I never have anyone to do my highlights bcus everyone is so busy. I did do my root color and then went through and weaved it I did do a lil tease on the weaved sections then I toned with redken. My hair looks the best it has in so long. Thank you so so so much ps ur beautiful and congrats on ur baby I also did a curtain bang wish I could post a pic on here. Thank u again.

Candid Headlines: Gorgeous! You make it look so easy! <3

Leah Cox: I just tried this and it worked beautifully! I’m so happy:) thank you!❤️

Chelsey Nicole: Awesome video ! Love how this turned out! You are gorgeous girl!

frequentj1: This is exactly the video I’ve been looking for. Now I have to watch your root touch up because I have dark blonde hair that I used to get partial highlights on, but I was never really happy with the results, and it was expensive, so I have about 6” of dark blonde roots!

No Name Studio: I am a designer well versed in colour theory and qualified aromatherapist too, so used to % ratios. I decided to do my research and give this a go in lockdown. I followed your tutorial using Wella blondor followed by the shades EQ 6N, with a root tap but I pulled it through after 10 minutes and washed off at 17 minutes. I am ecstatic with the result, the 6N totally made it, don’t know why I’ve not found you before lockdown! Thank you! The only thing I’d revise personally for me as a newbie t-section highlighter is using a lower developer at the start on side hairline as I am slow getting them in! And the back of crown is really tricky on your own! Thank you again for sharing your videos.

DeadxBeauty: Considering it was my first time doing foils on myself, i think i did pretty good! I found the back really hard though, i definitely missed a little but still! :) Thanks for the tutorial!

Kt McBurnie: I got great results from this! Thanks girl

Tracey leigh: Wow just wow, you done so good. I would have never thought to take that little of hair and do it that way, no wonder I always end up with more chunks of light lol. Looks great x

Kelly Fitz: Thank you so much for sharing. You make it look effortless and your hair is absolutely gorgeous. ❤️❤️❤️

Madelyne Estrada: I want to say thank you for this video. I tried your tutorial and my hair came out beautiful. I usually end up with a disaster. Great job!

Mondschein7: I haven't tried it yet but after a rather expensive and disappointing salon visit I figured I could try it myself until I find someone else. I never thought I would attempt it but you made it look totally doable. Thank you so much for this video!!

Melanie Brosseder: I tried this, only had box die but used this technique and I’m super happy. Thankyou!!

Jenn Jenn: Girl, you do a much better job than most hair stylist. I’m so glad I saw this video thank you.

Dulce Hernandez: I could never explain what I wanted to tell my hairstylist to do before watching this video...I have a grown out weaved balayage and I did not know how I could freshen it up..but now I do. Thank you!!

Bev Scott: That was really easy to follow! Thank you!

Charlene Jaszewski: For people who can't weave fast/haven't done this before, might be smarter to use a 20 volume and leave it to process longer. 40 vol could fry your hair if you leave it on too long.

gabby bove: Thank you as a hairdresser sometimes its hard for us to get our own hair done and sometimes I just like to do it myself. My balayage is fading so I want to do some highlights so its nice and to my root !

Amy Hadaway: Hairstylist here, I think you did a great job on that tutorial! Gorgeous lived in color. Love it! Thanks

Kira Cupp: Just tried it and wow!!! My hair looks so good! Thank you!

Canal Engenhosa: Simplesmente perfeito !!!!

Lea Lea: Your hair is absolutely gorgeous! This is exactly what I’m aiming for. My hair is virgin hair and I’m a medium brown, I would love to try this method to get my hair like yours

Lanny: Apaixonada pela cor do seu cabelo❤️

FANOLA: OMG Babylights are so popular but so hard to accomplish correctly! Thanks for putting this out there!

EtherealChannel: Thank you! I did this today and it turned out great! The key is to look at your own hair colour to see how it is developing, dont take the foils out too early or it will be orange!

Megan Malicki: I just did this and it turned out great! So very happy. I used 40 volume developer with a smidge of Olaplex 3 and no issues. I ended up processing my babylights for about 40 minutes instead of 25 as I am a level 9/10 in my balyage. Just checked every 10 minutes after 25 minutes passed. For the shadowroot, I added in coming gently down with a regular tooth comb to prevent any harsh lines

Claire Whittlesey: This is an amazing tutorial, explained so well, thanks!! I went to school at Aveda and you’re better than some of the teachers lol

Alicia Orser: Love it! I had about 2 months worth of growth and I put a toner on my hair ( Bleach blonde, with some of my natural hair in there , hair dresser has used Swartzkopft bleach ). My hair was really going brassy because of the water we have now, so my sister gave me a toner ( Wella). The rest went really nice but the roots and have gone brassy, I totally forgot that they would change too. I have ordered some Wella dark blonde and hoping to follow your video for at home baylage to try to correct the brassy tones in there.

Minjung Choi: SO helpful, I've watched this video 5 times and it's literally the only video that helped me with the baby lights process. Tried it out last night to touchup my 4 month old salon-babylighted hair and turned out great. I have a lot of hair and only did 12 foils so I'm going to do it again next week. 1) The NUMBER ONE most important thing to keep in mind is to keep the sections as THIN as possible. Go thinner than thicker to be safe. 2) This was a painstakingly long process for me, I find it really hard to weave out tiny sections of hair but hopefully I'll get better with practice.

The Thrifty Fawn: Absolutely love this... I've been increasing upset in recent years after my colorist passed away at a young age, as well as the "world event" of 2020 that occured... both incidents have resulted in not having the option to get new highlights in my hair. Recently I've considered learning how to do my own and am confident in my ability to do so, and this was such an excellent guide. Thank you so much for providing this as an option and resource for me! Once I reach a point that I wish to proceed, I will undoubtedly be reviewing this again! ❤

SurfinTheKitchen: Elle. I’ve been following you for a while since I first started doing hair 7 years ago and omg you look so freakin good. You’re definitely aging with grace! Please consider doing a makeup tutorial and daily/nightly facial regimen. I haven’t seen any of your videos filter through my channel in a while! Good to see you killing it at life! Cheers

Aspacardin999 Aspacardin: You just saved me the second time! I had an issue after i did my roots, was too dark in the front.. And your method just saved my look...again! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Kisses from Romania.

Cosmic Bodyguards: I admire her for trying to help and teach us- I just want to say that these girls have a certain humility about them and take for granted the fact that this ability to do this is a gift and a God given talent & calling. They answered the call and have worked to develop the skill but not everyone has this gift. I realized that when I tried to start teaching astrology to beginners. I realized it’s a unique calling and my purpose. I still try to teach it regardless because it matters to me. I just wanted to say this to this content creator because it’s a gift.

Carri's 3RingCircus: This is how I do mine too.... It's been a long time..Roots just grow out so much better this way... I'm doing a freshening up tomorrow.

Kate Davies: You make it look so easy! (Great results)

Misty Colley: You are so good at choosing flattering shades of makeup!!! The sweater, makeup and hair at the end are everything!!! So pretty!! I’d love to see more makeup videos, more specifically how to choose shades to compliment skin tone, etc!!! Ty for being YOu

Xochitl Williams: You make the easiest to follow videos! Thank you!

Rô Sana: Maravilhoso

Sandra Carrion: Hi Silvia – I absolutely love your videos and I’ve learned so much from them. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I do have a question regarding toning which I don’t think I’ve seen or heard you mentioned. How do you fix darker highlights that did not take well to a lighter toner? After toning my daughter’s hair with T-18 Wella toner, most of the lightest hair that was lifted to a very pale color was toned really well, however some hair that was not lifted all the way remained yellow/orange/brazzy. If I did not want to bleach those areas again, what toner do you suggest I use to target these areas and most importantly, how do I go about doing it without affecting the rest or the highlights that look perfect? Thank you very much.

Yvette DeMaria: My formula for the Root Tap is a little different, but the Babylights were done exactly the same. BEAUTIFUL results. <3 Thank you!!

Kim Pilates: Hi Elle, love your channel. And I really loved this tutorial because I like the same thing where there isn't any highligths directly in the part ( it looks so fake to me) I've been doing it mohawk styles and this is so much better! The only thing I would add is do not put the bleach (I love the flashlift w/ bonder) right up to the hair line or you'll wind up with tiger strips in front. But, I am all gray at the root so I need more coverage out of my root touch ups. I've been doing Sparks/30vol bc it's so pigmented and inexpensive bbut, I'm either to ashy or to chocolatly? And do you lighten for the summer? What color? Recommendations? Thanks for taking the time to make these videos Elle!

C Brul: This is great! Thank you! Just curious if you have to have a license to buy the specific products you used or are they all available at Sally or Amazon. If you could list the exact products you used that would be great. Thanks again!

rosane lessa: Meu sonho aprender a fazer sozinha! My dream!

Jen: Thank you, I have always done a cap on myself but have wanted to try foiling. Your instructions are easy to follow I’m gonna attempt it.

Marcela Álamos: Hermoso quedó tú trabajo, ¡¡me encantó!!.

Tamara Pavlovic: Thank you so much. With your help I learned how to do very nice babylights!!

Genesis Kravitz: Amazing tutorial girl!

Sheila Marine: Ficou lindo!!

Waho Nguyen: Thank you for this tutorial!!!! I’m gonna try some version of this today

Tracey Lynn: My goodness you make that look so easy I really want to attempt this! Thanks for making these types of videos Silvia, they are so helpful!

D3anna: I want my hair to look like yours lol! So beautiful it turned out great.

angela sprayberry: Absolutely gorgeous! Gonna give it a try..

L Cruz: Great Video!!! Thank you for explaining it so well !

Esmeralda Hoxha: Love it GREAT JOB

Emma Glover: Thank you. I'm astounded this actually worked out and my hair looks great

Nilzaneva: Thanks for this amazing tutorial. I would be thankful if you could show us how to do the back part. :)

Amber Kamauoha: Great way to refresh highlights at home! But as a hair stylist I would use 10 or 20 volume developer if you're going to do your own hair, I never use 40 volume even in the salon unless I'm using olaplex, it can fry your hair in ten minutes!
