Merle Anderson: I agree with the comment about removing the facial hair, because I suffer from the same malady. When my Mom was in the personal care home as a result of dementia, I shaved her top lip and chin area on a regular basis because I knew her appearance had always been important to her all her life. She was a beautiful and talented lady. I also have developed whiskers on my top lip and chin which started when I was in my forties. I keep stressing to my daughter and son, that if I ever go in to a care home, to please give me some dignity, and shave my ruddy face!

You would think it would be her medicines or helping her to the toilet at 4 in the morning or her doctors appointments. But it was her hair. It had thinned so much from so many medications I couldn’t ever make it pretty for her. She had always been so pristine when she went out of the house when she was younger. It was hard for her to face being anything but perfect. In my eyes, she was always the most beautiful woman I knew. I admire that you can take such thinning hair and make this woman feel good about herself. It is truly a blessing to have that gift.

She is attentive to my needs and knows that if my hair is off by an 1/8 of an inch, it will drive me crazy, because I have curly hair. It needs to perfect or I cannot style it. I have had cuts by hairdressers who rush and try to camouflage their cutting mistakes. But we elderly expect so much and we don’t have the beautiful thick hair we once had. It’s very hard to accept. I could see that she probably didn’t like the straight hair on her forehead because she was trying to brush it back with her fingers. That can easily be combed in the direction she prefers. But, the haircut itself to me, was well done. I noticed he had a tattoo of Jesus Christ with thorns on his forearm. Just an observation that makes me feel he is kind and thoughtful. God bless him, and I know He will!

Mind you it wasn't as bad as the lady in the video. The hairdresser would usually wax the upper lips and chins, if needed. She also tamed men's eyebrows and ear hair :).
