Hairdresser Tips For Thin & Fine Hair | Kia Lindroos

Hairdresser Tips for Thin & Fine Hair | Kia Lindroos

I CUT MY HAIR! I went to the hairdresser last week and cut a bob and as I was visiting the hairdresser I thought this would be a great opportunity to give you some pro tips on going to the hairdresser if you have thin hair. A lot of women have told me that they don't like going to the hairdresser with their thin hair because they get bullied by their hairdressers. This is absolutely not acceptable and I hope nobody accepts such behaviour and still believes there are amazing hairdressers who will know how to beautifully cut and care for your thin hair! I am personally very happy with the results and my new bob haircut. Thanks for watching! :)

Hi everyone and welcome to my channel if you're, not new to my channel, you might notice that mine hair is pretty radically, in my opinion, at least different than it was in the last video. And if you are new to my channel here's what my hair used to look like some of you might know, I have very thin hair, naturally very thin and fine hair. I do a lot of videos about confidence within hair and loving it, since I feel like YouTube and the media has very little content and imagery about women with thin hair, and I know the feeling of feeling unconfident within hair. Now I have gotten so many messages from you guys about going to the hairdresser with thin hair that it sometime is quite an uncomfortable experience, because you get comments, you get even nasty comments from your hairdressers about your thin hair or you feel like they just don't Know what they're doing or they make faces whatever you know. I found that so surprising. I personally have never experienced that ever with a hairdresser, so I am so sorry if that's what you've gone through. It is so unprofessional from a hairdresser to do anything other than make you feel beautiful and wonderful. So if you have a hairdresser who does not do that for you, please run away and go find a new one. There are plenty of hairdressers in the world and you can find someone who will be kind to you will know what you're going through. Who will be understanding and whatever you know? A hairdresser should know that every single person has different hair and thin hair is not somehow weird or unusual. I did go to the hairdresser, I cut it much shorter and I also put in some highlights - or it was called painting to make it a little bit more blond and just give it a little bit more life and in general I am so happy with it. I have never gone through such a drastic change before I asked the hairdresser to cut it a bit shorter than I might even usually ask so it's pretty much is a bob rather than a lob, and I was nervous, but at the same time I did think That it could look quite nice and also I just wanted to give it some time to grow until it goes on my shoulders again, which is by the time where I feel like my hair, starts to look quite unhealthy, very thin from the ends, especially so in This video, I wanted to give you some tips on what you guys to do or not do when you go to the hairdresser if you have a thin and fine hair, so I hope this video can help any one of you guys out without any further ado. Let'S go so, I was very happy with my hairdresser for the first time ever by the way he was very understanding professional and I felt like he knew what he was doing and he was not sitting there standing there and just doing whatever it is that I Kind of maybe showed him or wanted or might have wanted, which i think is really important. He took the health of my hair, the health of my scalp very much into consideration, but I think is amazing. So that's something I feel like you want to look for. In a hairdresser, I also feel, like you have to vibe with your hairdresser. Obviously that might take some trial and error, but don't just be happy with the first hairdresser you go to if you don't vibe with them. If you don't feel like you can have a good conversation with them or be honest with them or you know, feel like. You could basically be friends on your free time. Then maybe you should find another one because hair as much as it isn't. Definitely not the most important thing in our life. It is still something that you want to give to someone who you trust and who you feel like knows what they're doing, who you feel like knows you and your style and won't give you something that you won't feel comfortable with. So that's definitely my number one. Absolute number one tip next thing is I've already talked about this in my videos. Is that going short with thin hair really works? I feel like if I look into the mirror right now, I don't see thin hair on me anymore. I feel like it looks healthy. It looks not thick necessarily, but it I wouldn't describe it as extremely thin. It just looks healthy and normal to me and that's because basically, as of here, my hair says you just get very unhealthy. The answer to get very crumbly and dry and basically dead, which is why it looks so thin, as it perhaps did in my previous videos or with my before my haircut, so going short, really does work. Now I know not every one of you is going to like this hair that I have on myself and you probably couldn't imagine it on yourself either and I totally get that, for my whole entire life. I'Ve only wanted to have long, mermaid hair, and it still hurts a little bit to know that that might not happen, but who knows it might still happen if I can maintain and grow my hair in a healthy manner. You never know, however, cutting it short for the first time I think about two years ago. I really noticed how I also feel so confident and really like kick-ass with my short hair as well, simply because it looks healthy. In my opinion, healthy hair really looks better and you feel more confident and secure in it than you would with hair that is so dead and damaged, like mine was before so. My hair was very dead and damaged before my hairdresser. I was very very well aware of that. I knew I was long due to go to the hairdresser. I just didn't have time to didn't, really want to and wasn't sure if I was ready for the change. To be quite honest, I'm still wanting to see if it would grow, etc. However, now that I did it, I just feel so amazing, with my healthy hair hair that looks good and shiny and feels nice and just doesn't look thin anymore, because it's just filled with healthy strands of hair. So I think just keep that in mind and maybe be open for it. But again I totally understand if it's not something you want again thin hair is beautiful too, so you can also grow it long. But in my case, for example, my hair just wouldn't grow anymore past at one point, because it was so dead and damaged as well. Don'T go with layers, especially if your hair is as thin as and even if innocent, and even if it's a little bit thicker. I would highly recommend not to go with layers. This is something I told my hairdresser as well, and he completely agreed with me. He was like no way no way will I do layers. I that will just look worse on you and trust me with experienced layers. Will not make your hair look thicker if you have thin hair as mine, in fact, in mine experience personally, the layers just made my hair look even thinner so today away from that. So if you have a hairdresser who, for whatever reason in her his professional opinion, thinks that layers would look good on you. I would second guess that again, it just really depends on your hair, I'm sure a lot of people - women, girls, men when I've been watching this video have thicker hair than I do so it does depend on your hair and your personal experience. But I know for 100 % sure that my hair looks a thousand times better thicker and more believers, and just healthier in general. If I do not put layers on it plus it's way easier to style, I went a bit more blonde now I have searched some pictures on Pinterest towards the kind of blonde that I was thinking I could go to. I was even thinking about going a little bit more dramatic. At the same time, I know that I can't really or shouldn't go to blonde because the more blonde and white and silver you choose your color to be the more it is going to burn, damaged and really not be healthy for your hair. Now any kind of bleaching and blending is in general not going to be good for your hair. So I know I did that now, but I really keep it to a very minimum of maximum two times a year that I would ever do that to my hair, because too much is too much and in fact before this there was. It was two years since I had done any kind of coloring to my hair. Do not go platinum blonde. That is a rule. Please do not do that if you have extremely thin hair as it is, it might be healthy. However, you don't want to be damaging any of your hair more than it is necessary and bleach and platinum blonde will definitely do that, and on top of that I always tell my hairdressers when I want color that I want it, but it is not allowed to Touch my scalp, so I kind of asked for I said my balayage, because I don't want any hair color any chemicals to be touching. My scalp. To make sure that I maintain the health of my scalp and that's for me is very important. And ever since doing that, it works really well. For me, I feel, like my scalp feels much better. I remember when i long ago went platinum blonde as a teen, because my hairdresser would just do anything. I told them because I'm a paying customer those are the hairdresser's. Do you want to avoid it just burnt my scalp so much, and that is not healthy for you. We all know that now, if you have extremely thick hair, you probably can't afford to do that because you have so much hair as it is that if you lose a couple, it's okay, but as thin haired people. We just don't want to be doing that for ourselves. I didn't want to go platinum, but I did show pictures where the hair color looked more platinum than I wanted to. So he was just making sure that that's not something that I want and that's something and that's not something he would recommend. In fact, he would highly not recommend that those were basically my tips that fer going to a hairdresser with thin hair. I really hope that any one of you guys can have an amazing experience at a hairdresser. If you go there and not have those horrible experiences that I heard from some of you, I know some people also say that they simply don't go to the hairdresser, because their hair is so thin that it seems like a waste of money to go to the Hairdresser to cut it now, if you know how to cut your own hair great, do it, I don't. I have tried, it is an absolute disaster. I love my aunt, sometimes cut it, but even then she does a great job, but the hairdresser, in my opinion, does 100 % a better job. It is so much more exact. I do feel like the result is way more professional and just a little bit more put together if I go to the hairdresser, so I hope you guys did enjoy this video and if you did like it, give it a thumbs up subscribe to my channel for More videos and I'm super excited to see you guys in my next one my mind.

adele: I have thin hair, It’s my biggest insecurity. I hear it every day, from friends, family, hairdressers and just people in general, it hurts so bad

Alejsan97: I started cutting my hair at home because the hair stylists always tell me that my hair is thin like I don’t know lol. Thank you for this! It’s nice to know I’m not alone!!!!!!!!

Rick Rickardson: It’s amazing to see someone so positively addressing this. I feel like everyone around me doesn’t quite understand my hair situation, and I’ve gotten my fair share of “wow your hair is so thin” or “why don’t you ever grow out your hair longer?”(as though I really have a choice). I know most people weren’t trying to be rude at all, but their comments always kinda made me feel insecure. I have almost the exact same hair type as you- very thin and very fine- in fact when I saw the thumbnail, I thought we looked the same from behind lol. I’m really glad I found this video, it makes me feel a lot more confident in my hair. I don’t need to have thick, long, perfect hair, I just need to learn how to love myself for who I am. Thank you for this ❤️

Alicia Kiedrowski: Finally a video and comment community I can be at home in Many people don’t understand the struggles of thin hair. It pains me to hear that so many people have horrible, mean stories of things people have said, just like I do. It’s definitely an overlooked condition and really requires a lot of self love to accept something we are so powerless to change. Thank you to everyone in the comments for sharing your stories, and to you as well Kia

Melissa Culpepper: I’m a hairstylist. I’m so sorry you’ve been mistreated by stylist! I can’t even understand why they would mistreat you for something beyond your control. Instead, we stylist should be offering “hair solutions”. So proud of you for caring enough for yourself to find another stylist. This cut and color look fantastic on you!

Marsha Balderrama: I feel your pain girl. My hair is fine, thin and curly frizzy. when my hair grows past my shoulders it also looks damaged. Thanks for your tips.

Sarah Lennox: I lost a majority of my hair at a young age. Before that point, my hair was fine, but very VERY thick. Now, as a 26 year old, I've lived 15 years with little-to-no hair. Thank you for making this video. Just feels good to hear someone talk about similar problems. You still have lots of hair and it's beautiful. My hair is so thin, sparse, and fine lol But I'm learning to love it as it is because it's not going to change and it's all mine!

Kathryn Reale: This is SUCH an awesome video, and I really never comment on individual videos at all. Literally thank you for so much for bringing to light how it feels to go into a hair dresser and not feel beautiful. Especially in the age of social media, where hair dressers will post their work and decide simply 'not to' with thin hair girls. It's an awful feeling!! So thank you for this, and for all of your videos surrounding this subject. Very amazing tips and keep it up girl!

steph: My hair is long but incredibly thin, started to lose it in my early 20s. I agree that most of the time layers will make your hair look thinner but in my case it did the opposite. I have side bangs and long layers, and it really helps conceal the thin patches. I use toppik hair fibers, and loreal makes a thickening gel that is fantastic. And never use shampoo with alcohol( ex: suave) I use ' biotin& collagen thick and full' works awesome. Love your channel

Maaryah: My hair is thin and fine. I’ve lost a huge amount and it’s very visible. From time to time, I feel very self conscious about it but have to stop myself and tell myself to get over it. I’m still teaching myself that my confidence comes from within me and not on how I look. I’m still me with or without hair. I appreciate you empowering us. ✨

youthdiscljm: As someone who has dealt with baby fine hair her whole life I greatly appreciate you sharing your story so honestly. And you look fabulous!People can be very cruel without even giving it a second thought. While it is “just hair”, our hair is a big part of our self confidence and how we feel about ourselves. Struggling with your appearance is difficult regardless of the reason and we shouldn’t feel like we have to justify it. But as women we do. I’ve been very fortunate with my hairdressers, however I have learned to cut my hair out of necessity. And I personally wouldn’t be without layers in my hair. I’ve gone straight and my hair looks lifeless and dirty. And I’m bored of it in a minute so texturizing shears are my best friend but I’ve learned through trial and error at 54. We have to learn what works for each of us. I don’t believe in the “don’t ever do this” rule. If it works for you, rock on.

Hedda: Thank you so much for doing these videos! When I'm watching your videos I realise how alone I've been all my life in the experience of having really thin hair, haha, and it's so great to see someone else talk about it. The past years I've had the lob/bob haircut and I just love it so I'll probably never do something else hehe.

Isabel Silva: Thank you for this video! I thought I was the only one having painful experiences at the hairdresser. They always comment on how thin the hair is, like it’s my fault or something! And I smile and say “yeah, it really is…” but now you made me realize how unprofessional that is! Thank for your videos. I’m going through all of them ☺️

Rolling Withthepunches: When you find someone who cuts your hair well, tip them as much as you can. People who really know how to cut fine hair are a treasure.

D B: Love this video ! I have naturally baby fine hair - I once went to a high end salon hoping they could help me with a new cut/style and she asked me if I was recovering from cancer or an illness because I had the thinnest hair she had ever seen!! I never went back.

Foxy Shazaam: This is the first time I've watched a hair YT beauty video that I could connect with and that represents ME! - as a woman who has battled with very thin and fine hair my entire life (thinning has worsened much since having my son). I also have hairdressers ALWAYS make mean comments or act like I'm a freak of nature and they don't know how to help me. Makes me feel so small and ugly and like there is no hope. BTW, I also have ALWAYS yearned for MERMAID HAIR!!!!

Judi FM: Your hair looks amazing!!! I have thin hair too. When my hair was the length yours was before you cut it, my hair would fall out all the time. In the shower and on my hairbrush. I cut my hair into a pixie and it looks so much better now. You look glowing. Thank you for sharing your tips, Kia!

blueshoes915: Totally agree! My hair is as thin, fine as yours. It is so hard to find a good hairdresser and someone who realizes layers on thin hair are terrible. Good tips. I’d like to add to NEVER let them brush your hair when it is wet. Should be an obvious rule for hairdressers but I have found a lot of them start to do this and I have to tell them not to. You’re rockin’ the short hair!

Indie Fleur: You're doing everything right! Face framing, bright lip, scoop neck to frame... love it!! I did the same thing and love what I can do now. You look beautiful.

Patty Baker: This has been my lifelong battle. Thank you Kia for the great advice and supportive content of this video.

bubbsparxx: I had a friend's wedding this weekend where I was a bridesmaid. The bride was so generous to hire a hair stylist for us but when it was my turn I had an awful experience/ confidence blow. She basically said the reason my hair didn't look good compared to the other girls was because my hair was so thin.. Thank you for making these videos! Much needed <3

Juliet George: Many thanks for this thoughtful, helpful, and sensitive presentation. I inherited my thin strands of hair from my mother (now complicated by cancer, hormone blocker, and thyroid medicine), and can identify with your mention, in the introduction, of hairdressers who took away volume, rather than helping me keep what volume I had. Finally, I found two hairdressers to trust - one affordable, one very expensive. Now, quarantined, I am contemplating do-it-yourself, with some help from my husband. You have contributed a wonderful public service.

Swedish Chick: I disagree with never layering thin hair. That might be good advice for those with straight hair, but in my case, it brought my waves (that I thought were long gone) back, and made my hair come back to life! But this was 10 years ago, and shortly after that the hairstylist who layered my hair left the salon, and I haven't been able to locate her, or anyone else who can cut my hair the same way she did, ever since.

Morgan Ashley: I really needed this video, my hair has always been hard for me to accept. Mean comments from hairdressers, friends, strangers... I worry about the shape of my skull, my big forehead and chubby cheeks that I can't hide with my hair. I'm trying to accept it, after 27 years I need to accept that this is my hair. Ugh. Thank you for this again ❤

Alice Reed: I just got my second bad cut in 6 months from yet another stylist who didn’t listen and didn’t know how to cut fine hair but thought she did so whacked it all off. Now wearing wig and watching YouTube to learn to cut my own hair. So happy to see others successful at home haircuts. Will save me $45 for pain. Thanks to all!

Liz Doherty: I have thin hair, for ten years my old hair dresser put layers in my hair. Then I went to a new hairdresser who said first up, let’s grow these layers out. So for nearly two years I’ve been growing them out, my hair looks thicker and fuller and I’ve also been taking vitamins for hair skin and nails, which has increased hair growth. But having my hair one length has made a huge difference.

Esti. Sara: Kia your hair sounds like mine! I also have very fine and thin hair and I've also lightened it. But I just learned this: I just got a trim a few weeks ago and my ends looked nice. Then i started putting conditioning treatments on once a week to keep it healthy and my hair was trashed within 2 weeks.. very frayed split ends an inch or more up the hair shaft! The treatments were "moisturizing" according to the label but there were tons of hidden proteins in them too! As I started reading labels on all of my hair products I was finding them everywhere! Not everyone can use protein like that and if u have too much your hair will get very dry and brittle and start snapping off, becoming g even thinner. Watch your ingredients and watch out for protein because it sounds like u have the same hair type as me. Sorry this us so long u just wanted to share with u.

Zahava Grace: I’ve just come across your channel as I have always had thin hair. I started wearing hair extensions a few years ago and last month decided to remove them as they were only making the condition of my hair worse. It’s been so hard to adapt to my ever thinning hair, I’m struggling to embrace it. You are simply beautiful and your hair is gorgeous. I’ve subbed, I love how authentic you are. Your hair suits you so well and you’re so encouraging.

Mag L: Thank you for making this video. Like yourself, I also have thin hair. In my teenage years, I experienced a lot of fallouts and right now my hair looks pretty thin especially at my parting. Anyways, watching this video made me feel inspired to get a haircut :)

Elena: Kia you look GREAT with your new hairstyle!! I cannot even tell your hair are thin now. I have the same hair as you, and i must say you are a big inspiration for me. Thank you for this video :)

jazz boo: I am a hairdresser . With really thin fine hair .. so pretty much know how to advise . At sisters wedding we booked into a salon . And she touched mine and said there wasnt alot she could do . I loved it when i told her i was a stylist . She soon changed her attitude x

Gin W: Love your new look ✂️ I've damaged my hair through bleaching & it is thin/fine so once we're all out of lockdown I have no choice but to go short ✂️ possibly pixie as I think I'll be lucky to get away with a bob it's that badly damaged Your vid was helpful & encouraging thx x

Clarice Ellison: I love this! I am so self conscious about my thin, thin hair. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!!!

Cheese Puff: what a pretty girl! Thanks for representing the thin/fine haired ladies. You help people realise how beautiful you can be with our hair type!

Rose Kay: Looking at your before picture, my hair was very similar. I did a short blunt bob cut back in December 2019. It looks and feels much fuller. Luckily I also have a very knowledgable and friendly hair dresser!!

Katie Ellen: I hope you realise how much of a positive impact you have on me with these videos !!!

Shaffro: I had my thin hair layered years ago and I looked horrible. I cried. I never let another hairdresser bully me into what I don 't want. Blunt cut for me always.

Roseanne King: Hi, I just discovered your channel and love this video. I always had to use a ton of stiff and sticky hairspray to get my hair to stay put. It took me many years to realize it was because my hair was so thin it wouldn’t stay in place. I have hypothyroidism and that caused my hair to thin plus other medical issues. I decided that a blunt bob like yours was the best look on me except I have to have bangs because I have a ridiculously high forehead on top of thin hair and this makes it even harder because my bangs have to start halfway to the back of my head. Your hair looks very pretty.

Natasha.Malchevski: My hair is quite similar to yours Kia. It can look pretty nice if it’s taken care of properly, healthy and shiny :). Natural henna and natural care works wonders for me, I even sacrificed being blonde because of the conditioning and thickening effect henna gives. Hairdressers do not comment on my hair anymore since it’s condition is awesome now, however they used to do it all the time before (mostly when I was a kid!). Childhood trauma, kind of ;) , there was a time I did not let anyone touch my hair because I knew what was coming :P. If anyone commented on it now I’d give them hard time for it though.... definitely a complaint regarding the quality of customer service, right away, and also I wouldn’t be very nice to them afterwards. They can keep it to themselves thank you very much.

Elizabeth: Even though I'm so much older than you (I'm 63) I can relate totally to your hair situation and agree with everything you said. Great tips! My hair has always been extremely thin and fine, even as a young child. I keep it very short now but many times in my life I tried to keep it longer. I cut it myself because I've had very bad experiences with hairdressers. One time I was so embarrassed. The hairdresser called out to other hairdressers in the shop to tell them this is the thinnest hair she has ever seen. I'm not kidding. It's not easy to cut it myself and I spend a lot of time looking online at haircutting. It's cheaper, too. Sometimes I will cut it and then have to re-cut it to improve it. But I am okay with that. When it was longer I used to use ponytail methods of haircutting but it didn't always turn out all that great. I think your hair looks great and I love the length. It's the best length for my hair as well. Thank you.

Madelaine Loefqvist: Hi, love your video!! Im Sweedish and at least 70% of the population has fine hair so I do not experience the issue with finding a hairdresser however the struggle with wanting long hair is real never the less My hairdresser suggested olaplex and for my hair this really helps against the dry & bleached ends, but when over colouring then at some point only the scissors help. Have a lovelly day!!

Melissa Parrish: I'm a new subscriber and SO glad I found your channel! Your hair is adorable!! My hair is exactly like yours. Seems like there's a stigma to having fine, thin hair, that we're not in the norm. You're giving some great advice...THANK YOU!!

blueshoes915: Finally, someone else with really thin, fine hair. Shorter is definitely better but we also need to take a lot more care with our fine hair than other people. #1 rule - Never, ever brush your hair wet.

Bethany Kay Fitness: Thanks so much for these great tips. It's so hard dealing with fine hair. Glad I'm not alone.

Elodia84: You look simply great! I also have thin hair, and because they're super dark you can really notice the contrast with my scalp...it bothers me but there's nothing I can do, except not thinking about it! BTW I'm going to the hairdresser tomorrow (finally) to get a cut exactly like yours. The lenght between a bob and a lob seems to be the perfect one for my hair. Thank you for your videos, I rewatch them now and then because you're honest and conforting. (BTW sorry for any mistake, english is not my first language ❤️ )

31ruecambon1: Thank you so much for this video. I am so happy there is someone like you, that is brave enough to put this online. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one with hair like this.

Faith9120: It was easy to do a color once to twice a year until my roots started going grey, which is a pale grey and my hair looks thinner, so on goes the color. Thanks for the video its nice to hear someone has the same challenges and good tips..

Theresa Greene: I always wondered why my hair could never look like I wanted it to! I learned some years ago that I had fine hair and not much could be done but a blunt one layered bob ! Finally bobs are cool as are we who always have been Just needed time for our kind of hair to catch up !‍♀️ Thanks for your support! My misery at the hair salon was my burden alone to bear I thought But here I am not so different !!

Lush Peanut: Kia (and others in the same situation), i « had » the EXACTLY same kind of hair. I started to made my own completely natural products. Everything is handmade. And my hair started to transform... slowly but surely. I still have ultra thin hair, but i don’t receive those hurting comments anymore. Nobody talks about it but maybe we just have a deep sensitivity to chimicals... you know, for most shampoo, the first ingredient is the Lauryl sulfate which is so agressive for your hair. Natural is always a good alternative. It was the same for my skin and it is getting better. Thank you for your message full of hope, and we see now that we are not alone. Wish you the best

Abundant Catherine: I always naturally had thin and fine hair and after cutting it i feel 100% more confident! I think fine hair meant to be shorter- luckily I found a great stylist and feel so confident now with my haircut! love your video! THIN FINE HAIR IS BEAUTIFUL TOO!

Merna M: I agree with you on everything.. I used to dye my hair sooo much, now I stopped and the last thing I did was a semi-permanent. I am trying to grow out my natural hair color, which I believe it suits me more. I am also thinking of cutting it a little shorter. Btw, you look so beautiful and that haircut suits you A LOT!

BrokenGlassShimmerLikeStarDust: I have since childhood always had very thin fine baby hair, and styled in a chin length bob. It's probably the best option anyway. I wash my hair everyday, because my scalp is oily and I need to keep the oil at a minimum. I've tried longer hair but because my hair is super thin, they tangle up all the time if they're long. The thing I haven't yet tried is textured wave, which might help with the volume.

Gretchen Speir: I have fine hair and what works best for me is if I condition my ends first and THEN shampoo the top. I do NOT brush my hair out when it is wet, nor do I towel dry it. My hair is always pretty tangly when wet so if I try to brush it, it is much more susceptible to breakage. I wrap my hair in a towel to soak up some of the water, and after I take it out of the towel, I flip my head over and shake it around just a little, enough to separate my hair. I then separate my hair more by pulling apart big sections stuck together with my fingers. I try to shower early enough to where I have plenty of time for it to air dry, and I also do not put it up when I sleep. I haven't brushed my hair in about three days, but if I run my fingers through my hair, there are no tangles! I also haven't cut it for several months and have no split ends. I use shampoos that are for strengthening hair instead of adding volume, as this helps to keep your hair healthy. I avoid heat products and rarely put my hair into a pony tail, and if I do, I make sure it isn't super tight!

JosieJo2000: I love you!! So many thin / fine hair tutorials feature hair that is in no way fine or thin. I’ve also had hairdressers ridicule my hair or ask if I’ve had cancer. Your hair is beautiful and you’ve made me feel so much better.

Moomin Phantom: Ive been looking for this for ages ive always HATED my thin hair thank you so so much

sparkling231: Thank you for this video beautiful girl with beautiful hair. I found it very helpful. I also have thin hair but I blame the bleaching over the years. My hair used to be (not super thick,) but it was long & I had a lot of it. Now it's thin & doesn't grow. xx

Cris: I’ve never met someone who had hair as thin as mine. I’ve worn extensions for the last 8 years but sometimes I do a bob or wear wigs. My hairdresser is so supportive.

Katariina Taimi: I have alopecia. In 2015 I was completely bald, lost my eyebrows and eyelashes, too. My hair grew back, but very thin and mostly without pigment. But I'm SO happy to have hair, even if it's thin and white. :) So thin hair, no hair, doesn't matter, the most important things are inside your scalp, not outside. :)

Jamie Brock: Love this video!! You look beautiful!!! Also, I have very thin and fine hair. Recently I started getting bald spots and go through a can of root cover up spray once a week. It has KILLED ABSOLUTELY KILLED my self esteem. Everyone around me keeps asking what is wrong with me. That is how badly I am affected. Anyways, the salon is a major issue. I walk into an appointment where there are women everywhere with thick beautiful hair. Therefore, I am looked at and talked about. Trying to figure out what issues I have to cause this and therefore feel NOT worthy to even be in a salon. Now, I am trying to face this demon and find every natural remedy possible to fix it.

Patches Neshell: I been watching you for a while and I BELIEVE with this hair cut and style you can finally love your hair. I thought you had hair pieces in. Love it!! So happy for you.

Catherine Louise: Thank you so much Kia - you've really helped me. I have EXACTLY the same hair as you - only dark.

Aleigha C: Thank you for this video! I really appreciate seeing someone with hair texture so similar to mine talk about their hair. There is so much shame around fine/thin hair. I have had rude hair dressers but I definitely never went back. I have thankfully found a great hairdresser now! Can you recommend any good shampoos and conditioners for fine hair?

Jessica H: I taught myself how to cut my own hair. Hairdressers have been the worst to me. I also color it with henna, which hairdressers also tend to hate (even though I'm not asking them to color it, so there's zero liability), but it does help add some volume and protection.

luvjoon: ugh thank you for this video....... I went to my first salon visit after careful consideration that I won't be doing my own hair anymore... and wanted a certain look and they took all of my volume and curly hair away and thinned it out so badly and I thought that's what was suppose to happen... and then they blamed me that it was because how damaged my hair was that's why it was so short and thin..... my hair was about to the length of my mid spine and the hair cut I wanted was just some simple layers nothing so drastic to take my hair and make it to the length of my jawline.... I didn't want to be ungrateful so I'm working with what I have now and hope my hair comes back to normal.... thank you for comforting me with your words and videos its helping me so much bc at this point im just doing everything I can to at least make it look like I have SOME hair ahahaha

F Vallilee: You look beautiful. I've found that adding color or highlights (as you have) gives my hair a thicker appearance. It changes the texture. I only need to do it a few times a year and the benefits last quite awhile. Thanks for a great video!

Tyhe Ferenc: Just found about your channel and tbh it made me feel so way better. I've always had sucha thin baby hair and when I was a kid I used to love my hair being so fluffy and smooth, however as any other kid growing up I was also told to try to make it fuller and how it made me just look sick and undesired. I am so glad there are ppl like me with whom I can share and just stop judging myself for who I am. Thank you Kia so much!

Nicki James: Makes a change to see a video about thin hair, so thanks I used to have very fine hair, but it’s been thinning over the last 15 years or so and is now thin all over so you can see my scalp all over, which makes it next to impossible to style it in any way. I use scrunchie hair pieces in the back but by pulling the hair into a pony tail, or ‘twig’ in my case, my head shows at the sides, and top, a dead giveaway that I’m wearing a hair piece. I try wigs but they aren’t ideal. They can get hot, tight or just annoying when when wearing them for more than a few hours. I’ve had a few wigs styled at a hairdressers, but it’s hard to sit there having my wig styled, whilst other women are having theIr own hair done. I feel like an odd bod. Hairdressers don’t understand and would rather cut thicker hair than bother with us ladies with thin hair anyway. I have found a lovely mobile hairdresser though and she puts a couple of light layers in the back only because i was led to believe it gives the illusion of thicker hair, but, by layering the back, means the sides get thinned. I may try without layers next time though. No one could do anything with my thin hair to make it look better. A trim is all I can have anyway. I only have highlights to brighten it up otherwise it’d look even worse, but I do feel it’s a waste of money when it doesn’t make me look or feel much better. My confidence is zero with my hair, and I feel unfeminine. Doesn’t matter what makeup and clothes Im wearing, my hair ruins everything. We are always bombarded with women WITH ‘hair’... all I wish I had is enough hair to cover my head, but I’m one of the 1% of women with sparse hair

Alena Shimano: Great video:) I did loose a lot of hair over the years. I did find a really good hairdresser. I did cut my hair short, had highlights alongside with lowlights (especially around the temples). Cus it looks fuller.

Am Wir: So love your new hair style. I got the same hair as you so I absolutely understand and feel with you 100%. You could even go shorter with your beautiful symmetric face. My face isn't, so I fight for every inch of healthy looking hair to hide my face behind it.

Snowies Photography: Yes! Finally found someone who has real thin hair like me ☺️. I have the worst hair....it’s curly and very thin...I never leave it curly because it just frizzes and looks horrible...so I straighten it....it’s so thin I can’t wear it down now either (unless I go super short which is better for my hair but not good when it’s curly)...I’ve tried extensions and they slip out and don’t have enough to cover it . Even tried the band and it was too big and kept slipping off . I’m so jealous of people with thick hair...at least they can style it anyway they want!

Betsy Collins: I have always had fragile, baby-fine hair. In fact, I went 20 years without a haircut, only to have hair that looked like I had gone through some kind of chemical poisoning-broke off at shoulder length, looked like witch frizz, got tangled so easily. Then, I discovered wearing hairpieces and OH MY LORD, what a difference in the way I am treated! I blend the front pieces of my hair into wigs that match my own color and pin the front strands back (this makes it look like the wig us growing out of my scalp-the hairline at the scalp is usually what gives a wig away). I have gotten SO MANY compliments and doing my hair in the morning takes 1.5 minutes-the time it takes to pin it on with jumbo bobby pins. LOL I recall the days when I was a true "sucker" and would slave away for 30-40 minutes curling my hair-total waste of time! And even when it's humid, the curls and waves stay perfect! Try that with natural hair! And when the wig gets a little wear in it is when it looks most natural. Thanks to this discovery, I am finally normal looking and the difference long, flowy locks make in my overall appearance is insane! THIS is what kept me on the outside looking in all my life in aesthetics (that was just ME) and now, I have evened the playing field. Not everyone can wear these pieces-it takes some getting used to, but if you can, the money you will save not squandering it on unkept-promise products (no shampoo, conditioner, gel, spray is going to make fine, fragile hair grow or look longer) and stupid cuts that your stylist recommends will blow your mind. What really gave me the courage to start wearing these is a good friend of mine. She would get long braids sewn in her hair one month and then go shoulder-length waves the next, only to follow up with waist length waves the next. And NO ONE questioned HER. I envied the acceptance of others for her changing locks (which looked gorgeous at all times!), while I knew Caucasian women were much more likely to question one another like "IS that a wig?" or "How did your hair get THAT long overnight?" I thought if friends from other races can be free from inquisition, then so should we all be spared from the probing of it!

Beth: I have thin hair but I used to have a LOT so it was hard to see that it was thin. Then my thyroid disorder hit and I've lost about 60% of my hair in the last 4 years and it still won't stop shedding despite meds and diet change. It's so hard to maintain confidence when I see it fall out in fistfuls every day :(

Shelley M.: Have you tried just fully embracing your natural color? I used to highlight and lighten my hair just a bit (for many years), but ever since I grew out my natural color (it’s taken a couple years) my hair has become sooo much thicker. I have very fine hair strands and I’ve come to realize now that even a tiny amount of highlighting/dyeing damages my hair too much and makes it look thin and unhealthy and stops it from getting long. I’m never putting chemicals on my hair again!

Georgina Baker: I’m Australian but have lived in 7 countries and the only time I did not have issues with rude hairdressers was in Denmark. My theory is that fine hair is more common there. I’ve also had hairdressers tell me I must be eating a poor diet or tell me to stop swimming or wearing a ponytail when I was also #bornthisway I swim 3 times a week and I am not changing this because of a bitchy person who clearly had their own issues!

contiflex: You are absolutely right about not having layers. My hair is thinning with age and my hairdresser advised against layers. I only have my grey coloured 3 times a year and keep a blunt bob. I wish I'd done this years ago! thanks for all your advice xx

Anna Rowarth: I agree with you 1 hundred % but actually, thin hair eats up bleach rather than thick hair gets dead pretty fast it really depends on your hair type but for my hair which is not extremely thin but same with my mom's hair, this is just what I've been told by many hairdressers + Brad Mondo.

Bayou Patriot: I can relate to each and every one here with thin, baby fine hair, because I have the same. The only time anyone ever says they like my hair is when I have a hair piece on or a extension ponytail. As long as you are happy with yourself, who cares what others think or say. God thinks we ALL are so beautiful and flawless, so I just decree and declare that one day soon I will have Heavenly hair, then I thank God for it in advance in Jesus Name!

Terri Ensberg: All good points, and expressed with compassion. One point about layers - they can make the top of my head look less flat, but generally I agree with you about this.

Becca M: It's wild to me that in a setting that is primarily there to make your client feel better about themselves physically that you would say ANYTHING that could be construed as negative to them. It seems like so often people who do hair or makeup will push blame onto the client for them not knowing how to work with certain features. Even if it is inherently more difficult, it's your job to make the person feel at ease and more beautiful than when they came to you I also feel like there are a lot of ways to nicely make suggestions if they feel like something won't work the best for that person's feature. Not 'oh your hair is so thin and that would never work', but rather something like, 'that is really cute! I feel like with your hair texture it might be especially nice if we tried x or z' and then explain a bit about why that is in a non judgmental way.

Ava Martinez: I cut my own thin, fine hair. It's actually really easy & I've saved a lot of money. I wear a wig or hairpiece a lot of times, that's the best thing to actually do. I think my hair looks worse short. I keep it mid length.

Atheria PsychicGal: Very classy bob. :-) I've cut my hair off numerous times into pixies, and always noticed that I felt MORE confident and sexy with short hair. With short hair, you can't hide behind hair...so it forces you to step out into the world, so to speak. Also, since it looked better short, that gave me more confidence.

Searching for signs: Nice cut!! I too have thin fine hair but lots of it, it still breaks easily. I highly recommend shampoos with protein,Nexxus is a fantastic one and it really makes your hair stronger and grows faster and healthier.

Lorraine Joseph: i had thin hair after pregnancy. It fell out and i bleached my hair also during that time. But i was lucky it wasnt too thin. But after a few trims. It was still thin. So i went in and cut it on shoulder length. And after that i had my healthy thick hair back. But my hairdresser was so angry that the employees cut my hair short from bra or ellebow length. But my hair grew very fast and it is healthier dan ever. And i bleached it 3 times in the last 9 months. And still healthy. My hairdresser refuses to cut my hair for a long time at least untill summer. So it will grow very long

Brenda Douglas: I am fortunate, after a very long time, to have found an amazing hair stylist. Love how she does my hair, and she is very nice and explains what she is doing and how it will help.

Lovin’ Debs Faith and Fit50s: Great video!! I have fine thin hair. Before having my 2nd child I had a lot of fine hair. I love my hairdresser! She is 100% honest with me. She will tell me if the hairstylist I want will work with my hair type. I value her opinion. My daughters have super thick hair and my oldest daughter gets her haircut by my stylist and the hairstylist recently told her that she feels so bad because I want heavy layered hairstyles and they just won’t work with my hair. You look very beautiful. I just got my haircut yesterday. I had a Lob that was growing out and it was starting to look too thin in the front. I got it yesterday, straight across with long layers. I don’t look good with a blunt cut. Also my hair grows pretty fast. I also use at home natural conditioning oil treatments and I have new growth. I feel that my hair is a little thicker.

Atheria PsychicGal: I'm going to go cut mine off into a bob tomorrow. :-) It's just past my shoulders...looking stringy and thinner! I can see where my hair thins out from mid neck down.

T: First time viewer, I got lost to get here cause I don't usually watch this kind of stuff. First couple minutes I swear I teared up. I have such a strange relationship with my fine thin hair and terrible relationships with hairdressers. Unfortunately not many hairdresser options in the sticks. Thank you for this content!

--: I went to the hairdressers 2 days ago and had the worst experience ever. As soon as I went in, she was being awkward with me and then awkward changed to passive aggressive and bitchy. She was absolutely vile with me and clearly wanted to cause an argument with me, judging me on why I don't get a haircut more than a couple of times a year and being rough with my hair; she's ruined my hair and thinned it out, pur didn't use heat protector and it's now cut to around shoulder length, feels and looks extremely thin and keeps falling out. I don't know what to do. I had to cut an inch from the bottom of it myself as well, because she purposely hadn't cut slightly underneath it. She cut layers into it as well. The whole experience has depressed me. For whatever reason this horrible person really didn't like me.

greenknitter: I have very fine, thin hair and cut and colour it myself. Shoulder length lob or just above, blunt cut and short fringe (baby bangs). I use semi permanent dye with no peroxide or ammonia that's kind to my scalp. Dyeing it really makes my hair look and feel quite a bit thicker, and heavy blunt baby bangs also gives the impression of having thicker hair too. I also sleep with it in a bun and the natural waves gives more volume that work well for up styles with the straight baby bangs and I think using two semi permanent hair colours OR balayage highlights makes the hair look thicker than a single uniform colour. Yours looks very pretty and really suits you :)

Genevieve Mc: You should make a video on how to style your hair for formal Events!! Such an inspiration

Pat Rooney: I stopped going to hairdresser, I cut it myself, a very simple blunt cut all round !!

Grou Crow: Love the new color and cut! Logona Naturkosmetik has wonderful plant-based hair colors (henna, walnut shells, beet root, buckthorn bark, Sudanese tea, ingredients such as these). The colors catch light and look so pretty! They need to be used on hair not colored with chemical colors, I think. I found them very pretty, and they give my hair body and volume without dryness. I was glad to find color free of synthetic color, preservatives, and other ingredients that don't agree with me. Thanks for your videos ⚘

C Gavin: I think you look absolutely adorable. Yes I had trouble with former hairdressers also. I also have a problem with my current dermatologist. She’s constantly telling me that my hair is very very thin for a woman my age. I’m 60.And I tell her it’s been this way all my life. She prescribed for me $400 shampoo that had sodium laurel sulfate in it. I found sulfate free shampoo‘s that have left my hair infinitely healthier. No split ends. Keep up the good work.

Cheryl Brown: I am 46 years old now and I have always had very baby fine thin hair....I have been cutting my own hair since I was in my 20s because every hair cut I ever got was a complete disaster and I would leave the salon in tears ....so I found out that it is very hard to cut fine hair without any mistakes showing...in other words if you have thicker hair then the mistakes don’t show as easy...so...anyways....I feel like that has been another unfortunate thing when it comes to baby fine thin hair...and I tried to grow my hair long when I was in my 30s but the spilt ends got so bad that they went all the way to the root and my hair looked terrible and stopped growing so I went ahead and cut it off >......it is sooo frustrating to have this hair.....I am still trimming it constantly to get rid of the split ends but my hair just never seems to look healthy...I am at a loss for what to do....I feel like shaving my head and starting over is my only option.....pffft....if you have very fine and thin hair then you will be able to relate..I’m sure.

jajkoo: i find it really sad that even though you're saying ppl should love their thin hair and embrace it, we are still trying to find solutions to "fake" having thicker hair than we actually have :(

BelleDeJour224: My hair is extremely fine and thin! You look great with short hair. Also every hairdresser want to layer my hair and it is soooo annoying. I have had one who turned me around away from the mirror and layered it against my wishes. Since then a year ago I have not cut my hair because I am extremely terrified after that.

Hilma Halme: The new hair looks amazing! So beautiful! ❤

Onthehill: I found a lady at my local Fantastic Sams who does a nice job blunt cutting my hair and she’s super kind. Someone else there cut my hair once and the whole time she was cutting she wouldn’t shut up about how I should be using Nioxin and taking vitamins. I told her I had PCOS and none of that would work. She was so obnoxious. I won’t let her come near me. Some people shouldn’t be working with the public.

A: I stopped going to the hairdresser and started cutting my hair on my own when they kept telling me ''looks like you lost hair, have you been ill in the past?'' everytime which was very annoying

Carole Coote: When a young woman, I visited a hairdresser. He told me that whatever I did, my hair would never look good. I have very fine hair but a lot of it and will take any style but the style doesn’t hold. It was a boost when visiting another new hairdresser, he asked me to be a model in competition. I can live with my hair but hate my double crown.
