Congratulations!!!!!

Some of you asked if I could demonstrate how I remove bulk from my blunt bob haircut. Today I’ll demonstrate how I do it. I am not a professional hairstylist. This just works for me and I’m happy with the results. I hope you find this helpful!

Hi, ladies, it's dawn and welcome back to my channel, so I had mentioned to you in the past that I cut my own hair and that my daughter's help me cut it in the back and I have a all one length, bob haircut and it's pretty short. It'S like right here it could be shorter, but it's like just above my shoulders. Let me take it down and show you so my babies are all growing growing out and I'm doing the intro to this video after I already cut my hair. So I can't show you what I'm tending to right now, but you'll see it when I start the video. So what I did today was thinned my hair, and I do did my hair myself at home with thinning shears. I got from selling beauty supply. I think you can find them online or you can find some at Target if I can find a pair exactly like mine, I'll link them, and I am NOT a professional. I am just a lady who has learned how to do her own hair over the years. I'Ve had too many bad haircuts and too many bad experiences that I feel a little bit better. If I just cut my hair myself that way, if I mess it up, I'm just mad at myself. You know and I'm not out any money and my hair always grows back. So I do have thick hair, it's very, very thick and when it's all in length it can just be like monstrous and it never looks nice. I'Ve gone and gotten Bob haircuts before and shown the hairdresser pictures and she will say: well. Your hair isn't gon na. Look like that. It'S too thick, you know you need to thin it, and so I've had some really bad haircuts that I just wasn't happy with, and so over the years I've learned how to do this myself and I take into consideration my hair type, which is straight on the Top and thick and wiry underneath, in fact the hair underneath, is a brighter red than the rest of my hair and it's a totally different texture. I'M told this is common with natural redheads or people with like Irish roots. You know our hair can be a little crazy, so I don't know if there's truth to that, but it's true for me and I've learned. Have it been my own hair? My mom is a hairdresser. I am not so she's given me some pointers, but she always warns me not to do it myself and then I do anyways. So what you're gon na need, if you want to use some of my tips but again use them with caution, I'm not a professional! I'M just showing you what works for me for educational purposes, just in case in case you're wondering so. I have a pair of thinning shears and, like I said I'll link a pair like this below in the description box. I have a vacuum cleaner because you're always gon na want to vacuum when you're done. I typically do this in my bathroom, but you know you do get pieces of hair out and it can make quite a mess, so you're gon na want to vacuum when you're done, and the third thing you're gon na need is what I like is a brush. Like this, but you can use whatever you're comfortable with. I know this seems crazy. A lot of people would say why don't you use a comb, but I find that I like to use this brush, because what it allows me to do is section off my hair. Very easily with clips, and then I typically thin underneath so it helps me just make small smooth sections very easily, and this brush is a dupe for the Mason Pearson brushes it's from the company bass, I'll link it below, but it's the same, exact bristles, they're boar In nylon bristles and it's a nylon brush so or a plastic brush, so I really like this brush, and so it allows me to get a nice section of hair like this, and then I can, you know, do my thing and it helps me just have better Control over what I'm doing so anyways, that's what you're going to need - and I gave you my disclaimer - that I'm not a professional proceed at your own risk and yeah. Let'S just jump in and get started, so it's um pretty much all one length. It'S a blunt! Bob and my bangs are finally all grown out and they're the same length as the rest of my hair, which was my goal. So this part of my hair is nice and I like it - and I don't want to thin that part of my hair. So I take it and I put it up in a clip - I'm not a hairdresser, so don't try this at home unless you're very confident whole part of my hair and got it up because I don't want to thin my hair there. It'S not too bulky there at all, and I have recently I mean I've got lots and lots of hair, so I have ended already. So I'm not gon na do a lot right now, but I'm gon na do a few sections and just show you how I remove the bulk and, like I said, if you're a hairdresser don't yell at me. This is just work, works for me and don't try this unless you are sure it's something that you know just start with very very small sections, so I have sitting shears and they look like this. They have teeth on one end and it's just straight across on the other, and these are thinning shears, and what I always try to remember is that if you put them like this, it's gon na cut a lot of your hair. So I never put my hair back in this part. I start and like hey, I only use half of the thinning shears. So, where my finger is that's typically, where I'll place the hair - and I don't let any of my hair go into this area, because I find that it thins too much there. So I just take little sections and I stir I never start right at the top. I don't know why you could, if you want, but I don't I start about halfway down and I just take the bulkier section, so my hair tends to get a lot of bulk right here, like where it kind of curbs from Brent to back. So I like to remove bulk there, so I have one little section and I put the thinning shears on it and I just go one two and then I remove the hair. I took out some hair place that down and I'm just removing the hair I'll show you the hair that I took out of there in a second. This is how you can do it and be a little bit neat. Otherwise, you could just go around all your head of hair and then brush it and you'll just get like a small, a small dog. So this is the hanger that I just took out there and then I just put that up into my clip because I don't want to thin it anymore and then I do have still some bulk here. You see, you could see it's pretty bulky. If I were to put this, I'm not gon na use this piece, so I'm gon na put this up in a clip too, and this is the bulk. So I'm just taking another little piece, thinning, shears same thing, just the ends. I'M gon na go up a lil bit higher, well bulking clip clip removing the hair and putting it in my little pile, and so it's not really cutting the link that all all it's doing is removing those extra extra bulk from my hair. So now I've gotten this my chair and I'm just gon na take this little piece here. It'S still bulky right here. It was kind of brush it or comment it make it smooth same thing. Just use just use the ends of my clippers. My shears whoops, I'm using the monitor, is my mirror. Okay, that's all I made you right now for that little part here. Okay, I don't want to thin this. This is bulky but see it's very bulky and same thing. Just the end clip clip okay, all right! No, I don't want to clip any more out of that, so I'm gon na take it and I'm gon na put it in another clip. I like to do this when my hair is dry, not when my hair is wet, because I like to UM, you know my hair is different when it's dry, then, when sweat, when it's wet, it's very smooth and I can comb it out and it behaves. But when it's dry, that's when I really see the volume and see the areas that I really want to thin out, so I'm taking some bulk out same thing, just just the end of the Clippers. If you have longer hair - and you are gon na - try this and you feel confident - and you want to do it even though I'm not a hairdresser and I'm showing you what I do, I'm sure you know how to do it. My way um start halfway down your hair and then just every few inches you know, do a little chop and then test the area like see how you like it before you go on and just and trim more. I also thin my daughter, Nadia's hair. She has like, if I have to care - and hers is twice as thick as mine, so she loves when I her hair. It makes it she's curly, hair too, so it makes it curlier because it takes all that weight out, and it's just so much nicer for her and easier. I really don't think I'd ever go, get this professionally done again and just because I don't mind if I'm mad at myself for messing it up, but if I go and pay someone and then tipped them and then I'm unhappy I like her, you know it's just A mixing add, but if I do it myself, I don't mind to be mad at myself. Okay, I'm just gon na get this little piece right here, because this is a really bulky heavy piece of hair. Now some of my hair back here is still thick. It'S almost like wire, it's just wearing hair. Don'T like that! Just taking out the pieces and the back of my hair, I don't usually fit in the back of my hair, because I can't see the bulk back there and I think it looks okay. A prob'ly would look nice if I did thin it out, but I don't know why? Don'T we just do the part like run the bend of my hair, so it lays nice in the front. So I just took a little bit of the bulb and I'm still pulling out little pieces of hair here. I'M gon na show you what I what I took out. It isn't really much when you look at that. I mean it's a lot of hairs, but it's thin. You know what I mean and but it's enough to make a difference now right here, all this seems bulky and heavy to me, so I think I'm going to take a little bit out here. This is where I have to be very careful, because this is the top layer of my hair and if I'm not careful or if you go wild here, you might actually create what looks like a layer, then like a thinner hair. And so I do all my thinning underneath, but I'm so comfortable doing it now, because I've done it so many times that now I am very confident like I don't remember the last time I messed up my hair and was unhappy so uhm, so there now what Kind of lays nicer and see here it's bulk. You can see all this bulk right here. I took it out here. So let's get take the bulk out here and the same thing, I'm being very careful, because this is the top layer and if I mess it up, won't look good all this hair out. Sometimes I feel bad cuz, I'm like oh, my gosh, my hair, so thick and I thin it and then I see women who have thin hair and they always want to make their hair thicker and it's like the grass is always greener. On the other side of the fence, you know you've got these women who are like how to make your hair look thicker, how to add, and I'm showing just the opposite, how to take it away and make it look, look not as thick okay. So this is all the hair that I've taken out. I know they brush it just to make sure I have all the loose hairs out and you know when you're doing it at home. You can fine-tune it whenever you want like. If you don't like the way something looks after you wash it and it dries. You can just fix that little spot and time with it. You don't have to do it all in one sitting, because then you can sometimes do a little too much, but if you do it little by little and just assess how you like it, I can see the back of my hair right now, I'm going to show It to you because there's a mirror right behind me, so I can see I've got a mirror here in front of me and it's reflecting back. So I can see the back of my hair and I like the way the back of my hair looks it's all one length and it's a blunt bob and my daughter does that very nicely for me. If you trims the back and gets it really nice, and then I just take care of the bulk in the front, and so this is how I do it. So this is how it looks now. I think it's laying very nicely. I got the lot of the bulk out and I really like it like that, so I hope you learned something. I hope that you found this helpful and if you did don't forget to Like and subscribe to my channel, if there's anything else, you'd like me to show you I do everything at home. I self-tan I come my hair, I color my hair. I do all my nails, I do all my facials, i whiten my teeth. You name it. I do it here at home. So if there's anything else that you'd like to see me do go ahead and ask, and if there's something I can help you with, I'm always happy to do that. I hope you have a very blessed and beautiful day and I'll see you next time.

Dawn's Life, over 40: The Winner of my Rose’ All Day Giveaway is Tami Ibera. Congratulations

Ashley Kennedy: I tried this yesterday and it turned out amazing! I can’t thank you enough for sharing this it changed my life! Thank you!!!

INSIDE BEAUTY with the old girl: Hi Dawn, your hair style and length is so darling on you! I thin my own hair too and have for years. I love cutting hair as well and used to give perms to co workers. I love doing men’s hair with clippers. I didn’t go to beauty school but my sister did and she owned a shop for 40 years. You did a great job thinning your and explaining it so this video will be so helpful to many people. Thanks for sharing this Dawn! Much love, Sheila

Alli Sea: Hi Dawn, Congratulations to the winner! This was interesting to watch. But I have to admit I found myself grimacing throughout - only because I used to have tons of hair until my 40's. Now....not so much Your hair looks lovely. Nice job! Alli

Carolyn Hamilton: Your mom tells you not to do it. You do it anyway. I love it!!! . I never knew how thinning scissors worked. Fascinating!!!

Jamie Kiefer: I absolutely love your hair short! I just recently cut my hair your length, and grew out my bangs as well. My hair is so thick and unmanageable, so today after work I'm going to Sally's Beauty, and grabbing a pair of thinning shears, and going to hope for the best

Teresa Tillery: Hi Dawn! I have had my hair thinned in the past, but it seems to be thinning on it's own as I age now! lol I do layer mine when I cut it, which seems to make it lay down better! Thanks for sharing! -xoxo

Galaxy Rose: Loved this video. I’ve just started to cut my own hair too. My hair is also very thick and like you I’m tired of hairdressers that I end up being unhappy with plus the price always is like $100 - $130. How I cut my hair is, using a mirror, I tie my hair in a pony tail and cut across while leaving the front hair tied up so it can stay longer for the V Shape effect. Then I have someone help me clean up the back to straighten any fly aways and use a comb to cut the front hair to blend it with the back hair creating that V look.

Happy Homemaker: Girl you just make me want to get the nerve to color my hair... no way would I cut it though haha!!! I absolutely love your hair cut like this...LOVE LOVE

KJ TX Hill Country: Thanks so much for making this video!!! I have hair like yours and I ordered some thinning shears on Amazon and have been doing this too. It’s life altering!!

Jo W: That's such a good tip about the hair placement in the thinning shears. I cut my own hair too and have done since June 2018! My daughter was born on 12th June 2018 and spent 8 weeks in NICU, I didn't want to go to a hairdresser during/after that time as I was sure they'd ask how I was doing, or what I'd been up to, and I just couldn't bring myself to talk about the whole experience/situation so I just stayed away! Silly really! That hair style really suits you, wish I had lovely thick hair, mine is so fine! Congratulations to Tami! Hope you're having a great weekend! Xx

Mindy A: Oh my goodness, you have so many talents, Dawn....you are quite the renaissance woman!! I will only occasionally trim my side layers around my face if they aren't falling quite right, but I would never do anything more than that or even try to color my hair either like you do. Of course I don't have mine all one color, since I also have highlights put in it. That was interesting to see you do that though. Hope you are having a fun weekend. We are having beautiful weather here after a couple real hot almost 100 degree days earlier in the week. ✂

Miia Diaz: You did a phenomenal job, Dawn. Thanks for the video. I do what to add some pointers for those that maybe want more info. Hope this helps. You start 4 inches (4 fingers) down so that there isn’t all these little hairs sticking out, especially when you put it up. The hairs will stick out and it looks horrible. So she is correct about starting further down from the head. You should also never do the bottom 2 inches in the back, the sides two inches where the ears are, two inches of front the head, and the crown two inches (each side.) This is so that all the hair blends in seamlessly. Thoroughly brush/comb through all hairs, so the trimmed hair all comes out. Especially if you have long hair. You think you get it all and then you have hair falling out and all over you. Also when you wet your hair, it stretches out. Therefore, you cut more than you thought you did. So when you dry your hair, you will see the difference in length. They say cutting your hair dry causes split ends, but I just make sure to treat it after I cut my hair to prevent dead and split ends. I stopped cutting my hair wet when I did all the research I needed over 15 years ago and I have yet to be disappointed with the results. I also never had a complaint from ppl that have asked for me to do their hair. Hope this is helpful. I know a lot of you feel like Dawn and I, do. We are tired of all the disappointment and money wasted on hair cuts. I have left different salons upset; so I took matters into my own hands. Also a lot of videos aren’t helping those who are new to doing their own hair and it causes mistakes. Been there, done that. Lol. So with this awesome videos and a few of the tips and tricks I’ve picked up over the years. I am sure it will help many of you guys. Stay bless. Stay woke. Stay you.

Luce Z: I mean how stunning is this lady! Amazing eyes and teeth and just the whole package. Me a little jealous! Hehe

Sharon: Congrats to Tami! Your hair is lovely, Dawn!xoxo Sharon❤

Ginagal9: Thanks Dawn. Boy, you are brave! I am a danger to myself with thinning shears. The same lady has cut my hair for years and when I was between appointments and had waited to long I tried the thinning shears and really screwed up my hair. I had watched a different YouTube video and even with that, I messed up my hair. My hairdresser and I had a good laugh about it though. I just don't have the magic ouch I guess. My hair is also a bob and extra thick but I have some layers so it's tricky. Also, the right side of my hair has a different texture and is flatter. My hairdresser said it probably b/c I sleep on that side. Anyway, good job with your hair.

Ibelieveinangels yesido: This was interesting, Dawn. Even though I wouldn't dare take shears to my hair, this video would be helpful for anyone wanting to thin out a wig. Blessings! Jackie in upstate NY

Gloria Lagroon: Happy Sunday Dawn this was a great thinning hair video. You did an amazing job but you also have beautiful hair. When I was younger I had my hair thinned for many years. Had a lot of hair and curly. I've lost so much hair now due to medical conditions and age of course. Everyday I lose bundles kinda like the amount you cut off. Lol! Still have a decent amount but it's so thin and I wish I could get my hair back like before. Have a nice day! ❤

Irma Spahic: You are so much fun and crazy ! I love you I’m going to thin it out my hair now You make me feel confident about doing it my self

Marylou Buehler: I love your attitude about doing your own hair! Fantastic because I have the exact problem with mine. I am going to try this.

Katherine Henderson: Oh how I remember having such thick hair and having it thinned, but as aging goes on so does my hair. Considering the times we are in its very nice that you have the know how. Have a lovely weekend, Dawn.❤️

Melissa55: I wish I had enough hair to thin mine. lol You have just wonderful hair!!! My mom had really thick hair and I always remember her doing this to her hair, too. I really enjoyed this. Take care! Love, Melissa

Carol F: I’m trying this! Really love your videos, always so interesting ❤️

Fyrinspector1923: Oh my you are a brave gal. I would probably end up with a bald spot on one side or another. I love this bob cut on you and I am sure it is easy to care for. Easy breezy and cute. A video on teeth whitening would be great. We can always learn a thing or two. Working at my friends house today until 5pm. Sunday’s are when I meal prep for the other caretaker for 3 days so she does not over feed him such large portions. I have to take him to an in office doctors appointment tomorrow which is his first outing since 3-13. It should be quite the task with him wearing a mask. He does not always understand the gravity of the situation and his stubbornness can be a challenge. Have a wonderful week Dawn. Love to you from rainy Florida. ❤️Kathy

Diana Bentley: Thanks for the tips! Been four months since cut & color for me; have only tried cutting bangs once your hair always looks lovely

teresa gomez: I had short high A line for years. My hair is your length now. I just ordered my scissors from Amazon. Can't wait to use them. Thank you

Ashley Kennedy: I’m so excited to try this! Thank you so much for sharing!

Colourwheel: You’re such a beautiful lady and your skin looks so flawless. This video is so helpful, thank you.

Tracie Beauty: Amazing job Dawn⭐‍♀️⭐‍✂️ your hair is so pretty I used to thin my hair, now it has been thinning itself out ✋‍♀️

Leslie Ryalls: Interesting! Mine is very thick, nearly coarse and slightly wavy. I love that you do all these things at home. I always did too, back when I colored my hair etc.

ani: Wow. How I dream of hair like yours sweet Dawn. I have a ton of hair but it’s so fine! I have struggled for years to get more body in my hair. You look amazing with that short bob. Have a beautiful week!

Noogagirl: I have thick difficult hair, lol. I don't cut it myself but my hair dresser thins mine out with shears as well. Even tho I still have to have some long layers in it or its a bushy mess. You did a great job, Dawn!

Butter Fly-Girl: I have a lot Irish in me as well! Thank you for the tips!! Love your content ☮️❣️

Rachel Schultz: Dawn I wish I had thick hair to have to use thinning shears, my hair is so fine! I love that you can cut your own hair and do a good job, Love to see a video on teeth whitening!

Tracy: Thank you for sharing. Going to thin my hair like you did.

Carolyn Hamilton: Your hair is adorable. I have cut my own off and on for years. I highlite it as well. Sometimes I get professional cut, but usually not.

Just call me Jo: I think your hair looks great. I would be scared to cut my own hair. Those earrings a stunning. I’ve kinda been avoiding YT due to the drama going on in the world. But I know I enjoy your videos and you’re not about drama. Hope you are being safe. Niacinamide — thanks Dawn for the great info. Do you still use Mad Hippie?

natatattful: This cut is very flattering on you, you’re one of the prettiest ladies I’ve ever seen!

Nuša Tešar: Thank you for this video.. My hair is heavy too, so i will go and by some thining shears and follow your instruction. I like it a lot.

Abhijit Sengupta: Nicely explained ....will help me to get the desired results for my wife....

Kimberly Elaine: Love your earrings! Are they still available where you purchased them? Thank you for valuable information on your channel!

Older Not Invisable: OMG! I have the same problem! I wish I had a daughter who could help me with the back; I’m blessed with two sons....
