How To| Yarn Braids/Wraps

*******************Please READ First Before Asking Questions*******************

The difference between these and the ones I did last year are, these are wrapped and not fully braided. This How To will show you how I did them. They would have taken me a lot longer to do if I did them by myself. I had A LOT of help from my sis, so it only took us 3 days, with a total of 22 hours. The longer you make these, the longer it will take.

Yarn Used: Red Heart 100% Acrylic Yarn(this is the only kind you are suppose to use)

It can be purchased from Walmart, Hobby Lobby, Michael's, etc.

*************************************FAQ*********************************

How Much Yarn Did you use?

I used 1 Large Spool and 3/4 of a Small Spool

Does the yarn dry your hair out?

It did not dry my hair out the last time I did it. Before I installed them, I made sure to moisturize my hair. Also, during the duration of having them, I maintained to keep them moisturized every other day and also, made sure I used a light oil(coconut, jojoba with peppermint and tea tree oil mixed in) I also mix that in a spray bottle as well without the oils.

Can you wash your hair with the yarn in it?

Yes you can. Make sure to focus on your scalp than the actual strands. On your strands, while the shampoo is still on the scalp, you can just squeeze the strands to allow the shampoo to get in between the yarn. Rinse hair while doing it. Make sure to get all the excess water out.

Are they heavy?

Of course, when you first install them, they feel different and may be a little heavy, but I adjusted to them later on that evening, once finished. The next day couldn't tell a difference. When you wash them, yes, they will be extremely heavy because they are wet.

How long did it take to install them?

It took me 3 days to do them a total of 22 hours with the help of someone else. It may have taken me much longer if I didn't have any help. The yarn braids I did last year took me a week and it was a total of I think 19 hours.

How long do you plan on keeping them in?

I am trying to keep them in for 8 weeks. Hopefully I won't get too tired of them and take them out earlier.

Will you install them again after taking them out?

I am considering letting this be my Fall/Winter look

Do you know how many braids you did?

77(yes I counted because I was asked the question...lol)

How long were your yarn strands cut?

I measured it by my arm span, so it was about my height. I am 5'7 so that is about 67 inches. That was for both the strands braided in hair and wrapped around.

How many strands of yarn did you use?

It was a total of 7 strands for each section. 5 strands to braid in hair and 2 strands to wrap around.

Feel free to ask any other questions and leave it in the comments below... I have some footage of when I did the yarn braids, last year, with 3 strands and may post it, if I get enough people requesting and wanting it.

I wanted to get on here to show you all these yarn wraps that I did. I looked this up if you are, if some of you all know that then subscribe to me, I had yarn braids last year around in the fall, but I did it a different way this time and how I did that I saw somebody post a picture of My Instagram and it looked like the girl, looked like she had dreads, but I think it was yarn wraps, but they were much much thicker than what I have here and I saw that it wrapped around. I was like mm. Let me look this up and see yarn yarn, hair, wrapped or yarn braids or different techniques of yarn braids. So I came across somebody on YouTube showing this technique, and so I decided okay, let me try it so at first. Yes, I was a little worried like this is not gon na work, but I kept going kept going and thanks for the help with my sister, she helped me out, and it made the time go about a little bit longer a little less time. I actually been completed in 3 days. We started Saturday night and we finished it Monday, Monday yeah. We finished it Monday night, I'm sorry early Tuesday morning we finished it was a total of 22 hours and I think, if I didn't have my sister with me to help me we were. I would have been there too this weekend, probably doing it so I've had these for a week. I really enjoy them. That'S that and look if you have any other questions or anything like that. Please feel free to ask I'll try to put more information on the blog to get you all to understand. What'S going on and then I'll come back with another video to show you how I take care of my yard reps. Ok, so I hope you all enjoy this how-to tutorial of these yarn wraps. I hope you understand it like. I said if you have any questions, any concerns or anything just put in the comments below and I'll try my best to answer as soon as possible. Peace, love and happiness. I highly recommend you go on hitting in two strings together before you start. I use three and two strings three on one handed to another. You see they've pulled together, so you do want to go ahead and moisturize your hair. Before you put it in the yarn because it will protect it by the yarn and everything, but you want to keep it moist now. I did blow out my hair to make it easier to actually do this. Alright, so twist the yarn around your hair and then start braiding it. If you notice, you saw me, pull up pull up a little bit if I wanted a little bit closer to the Scout, but not too much to this gal to where it's pulling my hair out and you just braid it until you feel like that's enough brave Of some people do an inch, I did a probably about an inch and a half to two inches, so you braid it to where you want to get it as long as you want as much as you wanted to braid it and then grab you two strings To where you get ready to wrap it notice here, I am tying the two strings around instead of just starting at your wrapping, because I wanted to make sure that it stays secure, we started off just wrapping it without tying it and some some were unraveling. So we decided just tied a little knot. Make sure you don't tie it too tight. You don't have to tie it tight at all because as you're wrapping and you notice I'm wrapping here as you go down wrapping, it starts twisting a little bit and it starts getting tight on your head. So and once you let go, it will loosen up and everything, but just make sure you don't tie that knot that tight. So you see I'm trying to I'm pulling on the hair and I'm not pulling hard cool enough just to keep my hair stretched in the rap and keeping my finger in place right there up under it, so that I can make sure that I don't have that. Many gaps in between now because I can't see my hair actually I'm looking through a mirror and like so um coming through yeah. I kind of had some gaps going through, but I'm not that ticking and I wasn't about to go back and undo it as long as I could talk about. I think it took about five to eight minutes going down going down my hair, like that, for as long as I was doing it, it was a long time to just say forever. If you can't tell I'm still talking and we haven't even made it halfway down. So yeah just being patient around make sure you have some good music or someone there to entertain. You notice, I'm noticing my gaps there and what you're about to notice is I'm running out of strength. This is what I do. I just pull those down into the back into the hair well into the yarn, and grab two longer strands and start writing again. You can't notice it. You don't notice that I started off with some more strength. That'S why I think you have to you need to have a lot of strings so that you can get ready to just in case you run out. You can't do that so you're going to want to tie at the end you're gon na see I'm struggling a little with the tying. I have a little problem, so I tied two nights and what's not to finish time, I cut it and then burn the ends. Now you want to burn up a little. If you don't see and I like to play with fire, you can't tell if I let that burn like extra long, but you want to burn up a little, so you can make sure it doesn't unravel. And you see that's Ted, so this is the end me showing you all a couple and you see where there's some gaps in their spaces in between, but that does not bother me. You can't really tell and personal as you looking extra hard or there's a light. That'S shining really bright on it. I hope you all got a better understanding of this and if you have any questions, leave it in the comments.

My hair is permed, short and I have a lot of fly-aways and have had to redo several of them since Saturday simply because they slipped off. Does anyone have any advice on keeping them up, washing so they don't come undone, and taking care of fly aways/possible breaking when you do this and have permed hair? thanks! Awesome vid btw!

Shawniadfrmda843: very pretty. I wish I had the patience to do it. It's a great alternative to locs and a nice protective style

Sasha-Shae: I remember doing this when I was younger, and kids in school would laugh and say "why'd you do your hair like that?" It's funny how a lot of old styles are coming back and are very cool now. I like how they came out in your tutorial. They really look like locs and I love that! I wonder if by doing them much smaller it would look like actual sisterlocks?

Imani Jahaan: this is beautiful. i plan to spend a couple days of my thanksgiving break doing this .

knottikurls: My maintenance video, at the end, shows how I take them out. My hair wasn't knotted. Just make sure before adding the yarn you moisturize and detangle hell very well!!

KingSivad: Hey question, does it matter the amount of yarn you use or does that depend on how thick you want them?

knottikurls: Hey and no problem!!! Thank you for watching

BEAUTYisHerName: Thank you and granolahead I did this style on my daughter she is 6 yrs old but it looks great on her

Karen ShineBright Robinson: Great video!!! Have 1 question what is the name of the yarn that you use to achieve this look? Thanks

dani cleveland: I love this!! What if you did a slip knot at the beginning of the wrapping of the yarn?? That way you don't have to worry about that knot when you take it down, you can just slip it out AND it wouldn't unravel while kept in the braid... Just a thought. Good work though Suga! :)

knottikurls: Thank you!!! Yes I did, I have a maintenance video on how I maintain my wraps

NettaPrettyMeDuh: Beautiful!

LolasCurls: I really like this! Thanks for sharing!

knottikurls: Thanks girl & no problem!!!!

alyssa williams: I love this style I'm gonna try this just hope it won't take me 4 days lol

artsygirlify: my first time seeing this...So beautiful. It should really grow your own hair out. I have real butt length locs but i aint mad atcha...these are gorgeous and protective.

Neekie Neekie New!: Beautiful! How long did they hold up?

Keys: I love this style and I've wanted it for a while. The time doesnt really concern me. But my I stet is afraid that the yarn will tangle with my natural hair. Did you have a problem with that when you took these down? And was it hard for your hair to stay moist while in the yarn? And I'm already getting negative feedback from my family and I haven't even down the style yet. How did you handle the negative feedback?

CoilyHairedBeauty: Love it!

Raven Robinson: Can you work out with these? Also, do you have to intertwine the yarn with your hair first or can you braid your own hair and wrap the yarn around?

MsAshers1: Ok I am a little bit more relieved now that I see how you did them, I wish I could see em in person but I think after a hair cut I would like to try this. I've always wanted dreads but can not fully commit so this may be the way to go!! Btw this is ley ley10. Thanks for counting btw, that gives me a feel for hype much is actually being some. Thank goodness for your sister too, cause you guys together went through them very well. Love it!!! Very inspired!

Deedei: nice tutorial and your skin is amazing!

dudereallythough: om my god 0.0 this is so perf this is gunna be like my new favorite protective style for until i do my big chop c:

rudegurl101: I love the size of your yarn locs! How strands of yarn did you use to braid? I'm at work so I have to watch without sound and idk if you said it in the vid or not )=

Vivacious Ajay: Yassss sir!!! , Doing this here lol Thanks Gorgeous :)

SunKissedMelanin: I know you asked her, but do you mind if I share my experience? I did yarn wraps a couple months ago, and although they take a while to put in, the take down process is super fast. All you do is braid the top part about an inch down, and the rest is wrapped. So taking them down, all you have to do is pull and they will unravel, then just unbraid the top. IMO these hold moisture well. I spray my wraps with water/aloe vera juice, and the moisture seems to stay in there well.

knottikurls: My first time doing it on someone was 14 hrs including breaks. I have gotten it down to about 10-11 hours and what I do is section and braid first, then go back to wrap

Dystany SAMUEL: I appreciate the help that you had gave to me even know that you didn't help me , I just come across to see what type of braids I would do next scene I what something different in my hair. So thanks to you I would tried my first Yarn wraps.

Chantel Peterson: OMG it took about 20 videos to find a good one!! Thanks so much!!!

Adina April: They look great!

Dominique Denésha: one of the best tut videos for this hairstyle!!
