This right here is gon na change the game for you, I hope everybody's doing well out. There is day 12 of quarantine and, like I said, I feel like I'm living in an end-of-the-world movie. I have no choice but to create now, and I'm really excited about that with that being said, definitely comment what you'd like to see during this time. What would be helpful for you? Even if I have to take out my brace for you guys, I will just because I know that if it can help you, it would really make me feel a lot better. So today, I'm gon na be showing you guys how I clean my Scout thoroughly during a protective style, and in this case it is box brains. Now this is something that I've been doing like for almost a year now or maybe even longer. I used to use products that you can buy from the store and like just pre-made products, but honestly, nothing works more than this right here like this right here is gon na change the game for you. I don't watch other people's youtubes. I don't know what other people are doing. I don't know if I'm the originator of this, and I don't care if I am, but I'm gon na tell you right now that this is a game changer like this particular formula, this technique. This is going to change the game for protective style. You can do it every week. It'S not gon na hurt anything, but every two weeks. Definitely you kind of want to treat yourself the same way. You would treat your scalp if your hair were not in a protective style. It just depends on how often you need your scalp clean. If you live an active lifestyle, if you work out a lot, if you move around a lot, if you sweat, you're gon na need it every week, if you don't wear a lot, you don't work out much or anything like that. Suffer from dandruff or you know, psoriasis, then you can do this every two weeks. The first thing you're going to need is a metal pick or you can use a pen tell comb so there's the first thing. You need you're gon na lift a section of hair and then you're gon na go right underneath it with that comb. You'Re gon na go right, underneath it and you're gon na loosen any build-up that you have okay and that's getting underneath the braids. And you can, you can hear you can feel it there's no hair being broken at all. Okay, I'm not going in and out like this non-stop, I'm sticking it underneath and I'm like doing this, I'm pretty much staying in a one spot. Look at this look at all these flakes y'all. That is how much I just took out from underneath just by using that comb, you can see it how bad it is. This is disgusting. I'M sorry that y'all have to see this, but this is nasty. It'S it's! The reality, though, it's reality, so I'm just gon na go through my head and take section by section and just literally, do just repeat the same process now this part shouldn't take long at all. This should take like less than five minutes. Five minutes, you know, don't rush through it because you don't want to cause any type of damaged or anything like that, but yeah. This is gon na really lift up that product build-up that dandruff and just really get underneath those breeds and take out the initial debris that you've been collecting over. However, you know long even having your protective style, so I just go through and it feels so good. Oh, my god like this, is your scalps not gon na itch after this at all whoa, it is snowing in March whoa. So after you feel like you've, pretty much lifted all of the dandruff and debris you kind of want to just dust it off and you can kind of see just how much it's coming out like. I have a black shirt and I can see it fall onto my black shirt, so you just kind of want to loosen that up all right, so I feel like most of it is out and if you can see, if the camera does it any justice, you Can see all those flakes are already pretty much gone, but we really want to get the scalp super super clean and make sure that it doesn't itch over the course of a week. Okay, so the first thing we're gon na add, is apple, cider, vinegar, alright, and you want to make sure that is the apple cider vinegar with the mother. Now we're gon na add right around, I don't know like 4 tablespoons or something then I'm gon na. Add tea tree oil and I'm gon na add it to the water about 5 drops and then I'm gon na take peppermint oil and I'm gon na add right. Around 3 to 4 drops as well, and then I'm gon na add lavender oil and I'm gon na stir. It really well together, ok - and this is what we're gon na be cleaning our scalp with alright. So now that we have our mixture, all mixed up and ready to clean our scalp, I'm gon na take my edge brush in the same way that I apply my gel, I'm gon na apply this solution and I'm gon na actually scrub and get really well around. My hairline to make sure that my hairline is free of any build up any gels, any extra products and danger, so I'm gon na dip it in there and I'm going to brush like this. I just brush the front braids like this, because I feel like I said that was the most buildup. As far as like products is concerned. Cuz I like to retouch my baby every day you don't want to be too rough with your hairline. You really want to be gentle. I'Ve been like, I said. I'Ve been doing this for for a long time and I've never had any breakage issues, no scalp issues. This has really saved my scalp now that I'm done with the hairline I'm gon na take a baby towel. You can also use microfiber because it's a lot softer us a lot gentler on the scalp. I'M gon na take the towel dip it in the water and I'm actually going to go through and clean. My scalp, I just like to put my finger in it like this and literally just rub down the hair. Don'T rub in the opposite opposite way that your hair is braided and rub like the way your hair is braided into so like for this braid. I'M gon na rub towards the braid all around it. Okay - and I just do that all over and if you feel the need to change the water do so, but I usually don't have to change the water, and my scalp already feels better already. So this is how you defunct. You unstained your scalp with a protective style, so I'm just gon na finish doing this off-camera, I'm probably gon na get Devin to do the back and then I will be back to show you the next step. So my scalp is nice and clean and it feels completely new and rejuvenated it's free of dandruff. It doesn't itch anymore and I did have to get Devin to help me with the back of my head, because I can't see so if you do have somebody to help you. That is a plus, because, let me tell you it is kind of hard to get directly between this, the partings. But if you don't have anybody, you can definitely use a mirror or just kind of feel for where the partings are so I'm actually going to blow dry the dampness out instead of sitting under the dryer. I don't feel like sitting on the dryer, so now that my hair is completely dry. I have the option of adding some type of oil to my hair. Now one thing about oil to me honestly: sometimes they can just really defeat the purpose of cleaning the hair, because your scalp actually produces sebum, which is your scalps natural oil, and it does a pretty good job at lubricating, my scalp. Naturally, some people really just need to put an oil on that scalp just depending on their circumstances. But I suggest, if you're gon na put us put an oil on your scalp um, as I am, has the dry and itchy scalp care with olive oil and tea tree in it. And it is so awesome. It treats dandruff and also dermatitis which a lot of people tend to have whenever they put a lot of protective styles. Put this one, it's really really really really great and effective. I don't always put an oil, it just truly depends. I find that whenever I do put an oil I do need to clean my scout more often, so I wouldn't put a lot if I were you so to lay my edges, I'm going to shine and jam. This is to me so much better than any edge control, because it does not give you that buildup like it all. It can sometimes like over the time, build up over the course of time, but the next day is not gon na be white. It'S not gon na be sticky it just dissolves into the hair. I just like to apply just a little bit to that are exposed. I mean like a little bit. Okay, not a lot! You don't need a lot y'all, also, another tip that I would give you guys like at the end of the day, with a damp towel, wipe off this products like wipe off any products that you put so that it won't build up. So much like this with a warm washcloth, the last suggestion that I do have for you guys, if you tend to like get a dry itchy scalp, if you scalp just you know for some reason, just gets irritated throughout the week. I love Head & Shoulders. Royal oils instance to scout the liquor. It just has this burst of this cooling effect. It really does help in treating dandruff and dry scalp. All you have to do is spray it directly onto the scalp. You can get this at Walmart Walgreens. I believe CBS even has it target. Has it so it's successful pretty much anywhere. I love this stuff, so I just like put it. You know wherever I need it throughout the week yeah and that's it that's how I maintain my scalp with a protective style. This particular method has really just changed the game to me when it comes to you know, keeping my protective styles and because a lot of the times I just like to take them out, because one I miss my curls are to my scalp - is just giving me A world of trouble - and I just cannot tolerate it anymore ever since I've been doing this, I have been able to keep my style a lot longer and just prolong my protective style process so yeah. That is it. I hope you guys enjoyed this. It may be a long video, I hope it was it if you have any more tips, feel free to share down below. Madison Montgomery: I love how all of us POC women are so naturally talking about flakes and dry scalp without feeling judged. This western media/culture really made me feel “lesser than” for having flakes and dry scalp

Stephany Spencer: Sis, you just SAVED MY BRAIDS. Not even a week in with my first ever set of braids and I was so desperate to cut them out and never do it again. I couldn't understand what I was doing wrong. THANK YOU.

Aretha page: This video came just in time. I just had a newborn & need these braids to last a little longer

Precious: Bout to do this right now, I did braids a couple days ago and I’m already getting flakes. Can’t bring myself to wash them cos they’re so fresh (I usually do wash braids weekly). FYI I’ve also heard using baby wipes is a good quick fix.

Shari Armstrong: My hair feels like it just got braided! I followed your process and my scalp hasn’t felt this good in two weeks! Thank you so much for this!!!

Ravin2982: OMG ! I suffer from dry scalp and I was looking for a way to clean my scalp with my box braids. This is my first time seeing the medal comb technique. Can’t wait to try this! Thank youuuu!!!

RWicks63: This tutorial was perfect thank you. I have had cornrows for like 12 years and always struggled with the scalp maitentence, so I couldnt have them in as long. Now due to Lockdown and all that, I have had to learn how to braids myself but can only do box braids on myself, so this video was perfect. Im onto my 2nd amount of braids since doing this and my scalp and hair feel so much healthier

Getfitwitjessie: Thank you soo much! I had knotless braids for a month and I was so tired of scratching my scalp! This was right on time ❤️

Leah Murphy: GUUUUUURL!!!! Thank you for this! I just did everything you recommended step by step and then you bust out the head and shoulders...I knew I came to the right channel. I had everything you had to make a heavenly concoction. My scalp and I thank you.

Kendra: Wow! Just did this and my scalp feels AMAZING!! So clean and refreshed. Thank you for this!

Cara M: Welcome back YouTube hair twin! Great video! I've never had a build up issue and I only use a little oil and if my scalp itches I would use my peppermint oil concoction or Seabreeze. I know others may have dry scalp or etc. It's also a great idea to clean the braiding hair before any style to reduce itching. As for my edges I gently shampoo, then condition every week and have been for years with no issues

Kelsey Beckford: Absolutely renewed my SCALP! Thank you! Especially the edge brush trick!

Leah: This is the first time I’ve ever had a protective style in my hair (box braids) and your video just saved me! I thought I was going to have to cut them out and start over but I did everything you did and my scalp has never felt fresher!! Thank you so much ❤️

Amber C: This is great! I don't wear extensions, but when I do twists or braids, I will definitely try this

Janise' Taylor: I found this video just a few days ago. I have bad dandruff and have only had my braids in for about 3 weeks. I was getting very discouraged and thought that I was going to have to take my twist down to shampoo my hair. I came across this video and wow! Thank you so much! The only change I did in your recipe was adding a bit of my shampoo and adding lavender and rosemary essential oils. My scalp feels so clean and fresh! Thank you so so so so much!!

Emily Rose: I literally scratch my scalp till it bleed and its still itchy. This helps a lot thx

Sharyelle Meadows: I have every single one of these products in my bathroom and I was DREADING trying to wash my knotless braids, so I’m trying this instead! You just got a new subscriber.

Brittney Rodriguez: Ok I actually JUST followed this entire tut and it completely refreshed my jumbo twists using the rubber band method. Get the larger metal comb it feels like absolute heaven under my one month old twists. It does not disturb them or tangle anything (I was scared of that at first) I wish I was doing this every week this when I first got my twists (I probably wouldn’t have had so much dandruff) Nonetheless! This was an absolute savior honey! Thank you so much

Victoria Modi: So helpful sis god bless you. Didn’t want to drown my hair in water just yet. Using essential oils with diluted acv is so smart!! Will try every week since I’m making my way back to the gym since last year :)

Let'sTalkAboutIt Much: I used to braid my hair with synthetic hair. My flakes were so bad I'd have to unbraid my hair like every week to comb the dandruff out and rebraid just to keep my hair feeling fresh. Now that my hair is longer I do box braids using my own hair and the dandruff is still TERRIBLE. My braids are so fresh and pretty and the baby hairs is laid lol but already it's only been like 3 days dandruff is building. I loved this video. I feel like now I can lift the dandruff without breaking my hair and protecting fresh style. And when you was cleaning your hair with that solution it looked like it felt so good!!!! Great Video Beautiful!

rockpaperskizzers: I just tried this method today. My scalp feels so clean and fresh! And I have to thank you for putting me on to the Royal Oils line. That stuff is the truth! Between the scalp elixir and the scalp cream my head has been itch free for the last two weeks. That's unheard of for me. Thank you!

Simply Avalon: This is a great vid. I’ve never gotten braids because I have to wash my hair every week but I with this I may be able to get away with them.

Ebeezee: I'm so glad I found someone who was familiar with this method and actually demonstrated it. I've had my yarn box braids in for a month. Wanted to refresh them and detox my scalp without washing them. This method would be perfect for me because I tried actually washing my scalp and my braids got soak and wet and took forever to dry. I wanted to stretch my hair at least another month. Planning on doing this method and I will be retouching the front. Thanks for posting.

courtnea2001: I would love to see some quarantine vlogs, makeup videos, current hair favs, different ways to style braids, and literally anything you decide to post for us!

Story Time & More With the Kids: This is perfect time! Really needed this! Thanks

cerys p: I usually wear a scarf soon as my scalp and braids start flaking and getting itchy but felt like I'd look for a solution. Was abit doubtful as many things I've tried leave my hair frizzing out alot quicker. I done cider vinegar and tee tree oil only and my scalp feels refreshed, no frizzing and looks so clean!! Now I can put the scarfs away thanks

Kat Odd: This method looks amazing!! Definitely trying this. I used my steamer on my hair first so it won't be completely dry when I take the flakes out

Shar Shar: My build up when I took my braids down was more glueish and sticky. All the videos I watched everyone else's looked crusty. Is there any advice to safely detangle the sticky gluey build up for next time? I feel like I had some excessive shedding this time which was my 1st time. Thanks

KALEIDO jess: I’ve been thinking of getting box braids for this summer but I started working out a lot more so this will be helpful.

Liane Corinaldi: Sister!! You saved my scalp (and braids) - good looking out !!

Kasumichick2772: Girrrrllll you are a miracle and a blessing in disguise! I could not wash my hair every week like other people do. I have a serious condition of seborrheic dermatitis (a type of dandruff) I have to use a prescription shampoo for my scalp but I'm glad to come across your video. I am trying this as my routine when I have my protective style. Thank you queen! ❤❤❤

TrueEternallBeauty: I’m currently doing this method it works wonders

RaSy Wash: I was honestly skeptical because my dandruff’s where looking horrible and i was like “mmm idk how this gone work” but wow! Will definitely be telling people about this method. Thank you

AJ Easmon: I like your personality lol. Thanks for this, as I don't like washing my hair when it's in braids (totally ruined) but THE MESS when I take them out ‍♀️ towels and tissues everywhere lol. I'm a bit sceptical with Apple cider vinegar as my hairs relaxed (now I'm transitioning) especially on synthetic hair after seeing a video of expressions hair but will give it a try as people keep suggesting it to me

God Of Gaming: My knees wobbled you you started scratching your scalp with the pick. It’s been too long since I felt that. Thanks for the video, well needed!

Claudia Gonzalez: This video was so helpful because I was thinking of removing my box braids because I cannot tolerate all the flakes in my hair and the itching

Ashanti Wilson: This video was SOOOO helpful thanks for sharing!!

kianna plummer: This helped soooo much thank you!!!

Chinyeaka: Thank you for this refreshing video. Trust me girl, you just saved me some good bucks

Tiffany Paige: Hi!! Thank you soooooo much for this!! If possible, can you please send a link or provide the info on where you got the edge brushes you used (to clean your scalp and lay edges)?? And again...Thank you so much for this! You are amazing!

Sym City: My girlfriend just did box braids on me and this video is very helpfulthank youI subscribed

tasia real: Amazing tips!!

Rondell Gould: Wish I could like this one million times, washing too often locs my hair so this is perfect for me to prevent thatc

yan zhao: I think I'm gonna have to do this soon because the amount of itching I"m doing is starting to get bad. its only been a month and I want to wear it at least 2 more weeks. if i can get to 2 months i would love that but i can't take the itching honestly.

Kacey: Im wearing braids now and my scalp itches so much I use braid spray I just got these braids last Thursday and I diffently can relate and will be trying this remedy

Jennifer: WHEW brb cause babyyyy!!! This is the first time I've ever gotten braids and it's ONLY been a week and I'm ready to take them out. I'm like aint no way ima make it. I'm going to do this riiight now

Filippa Vivianne: Thank you for sharing this! ❤️

Jayarie: By using your comb you may be actually lodging it under and in the braids and your hair, making the removal and detangle harder in the end. It's best to just wash for some especially smaller styles

Ximena L. Castillo: i'm shook. The last time i had braids - i deadass just let them get crunchy and didn't wash it and used all the dry shampoo in the world. I saw this video and bought (for the first time) a metal pick and an edge comb. Bet your booty I clicked those links and got some lavender oil and that head and shoulders spray. (I hope you're getting a kick back for the promotion.) If I watched your video at 430pm - by 11pm I was doing the routine. GUYS - this really works! and it was a fantastic self care break that I intend on doing once a week. Using the pic to upend the flakes is a great scalp massage and the DANDRUFF IS ALMOST ALL GONE. I'm so stoked. A great way to refresh my box braids and treat my dry dry scalp <3 <3 <3

MeishiaThe13: This is awesome. Question, are you supposed to rinse the vinegar mixture out?

Mona Marie: how long do your braids last ?

sonnymarie davoren: ima try this after work!! thank you cause i have really bad dandruff with my braids and i just got them done last week

Sheka Kanu: Can you save the cleaning mixture in a spray bottle for future use?

Clarynda Montie: I love to add a rubber band at the root so freshen up the box braids after a wash

OrchidOtaku: Girl I was dying over here. THANK YOU

Chanté Adams: How often do you moisturize your braids? Do you use just oil?

Daniella Alino: I found this a year too late, but thank you so much I will probably try this out!

Letroy Rogers: Great video. I put my hair in box braids because I am in Peru to travel the country and this video saved me!

Julett Fullerton: Great Tips, Thanks.

Don Tomas: I have plaited braids, and was also wondering, since I am Latino, my hair texture is a little different, even though it is still thick and curly. Will this cause alot of frizz for me? I noticed like a week in the product build up and its driving me crazy.

Otto Sean Christopher Mastuh OSCG 8845 Grimsley: I have a question. Would this method work on short braids?
