protective styles for natural hair

Hey guys welcome back to my channel today's video is another protective style so before we get into it, I'm gon na go ahead and cover the frequently asked questions. The FAQ first and foremost the hair is the shake-and-go freakish braid wrapped in lock. This is their hipster. Lock 18 inch in one beef and I will show y'all. This is what the packaging looks like. So it's there hipster lock 18 inches and I am in the shade 1v. Now I used about three packs total ahead. One two three: I had four locks left over from the third pack, so I used three packs in total. Let me count how many Lots I have my hit currently all right, so we got 44 locks over my entire head. I will say the density of my hair. I do not think my natural hair is really that dense, which is why certain areas you have to kind of evaluate your hair type to know like how many locks you're gon na have on your head. So basically, I'm saying if you got a lot of hair and your braid is like chunky when you part it, that's not necessarily gon na be the best way you're gon na have to you know, give you up in your parks a little bit more to have Some more locks in your head, because this little this little hole is what your braid has to go through to use this hair. So you want to make sure your braid is small enough to get through this little hole. I'Ve had these locks in for about two and a half weeks. At this point, I usually don't keep in protective styles that long. These Styles look great over time, because the more like worn your hair is the looser the locks look, the more natural they look in. My opinion - and all you really have to do is keep touching up your baby hairs. But when you touch up your baby hairs, you got ta wash your baby. Hairs got ta, wash your baby hairs. At least you know once every two to three days: cuz when you're, taking up that edge, control and gels stuff like that, it can get real like cakey and dirty. So you want to make sure you're washing your baby hairs. It hasn't unraveled the only like sliding that I've noticed is like up here, crusty but like up here. This is my hair, the braid and like this is the hair that I wrapped around it, which will show you the application process momentarily. But that's the only sliding I've had so I slid down I like that, but if I see it all I got, ta do is Boop and then it's covered same with over here. It'S really only in the areas where I've been like, manipulating the hair, more octaves. I'Ve been switching my part from left to right and all that stuff, but other than that, like I have no complaints the hardest parts for me with this hairstyle was one up it took me: some tries to apply the hair. So, although it's an easy method, you have to kick the hang of it first, because if you don't get the hang of it, then it's gon na seem like a very hard method to apply this hair. Second, I did struggle in the back of my hair. So a lot of times people asked like what does the back of the hair look like, which I can try and show y'all. This is what the back of her hair looks like, and I wanted to it to be very loose again. I was going on a little vacation, so I wanted it to look very loose natural and front. She knows him, and so it was hard for me to get the back of my hair, because the way you have to crochet your hair in the lock it's hard to do from back here. You know I'm saying so. If you have someone else doing your hair, it might be able to be easier or you can. You know wing it like me, trial and error, and also it does take a while to do this. So I have 44 locks. I started my hair at 9:30 p.m. and I finished my hair at about 2:15 a.m. now that wasn't me like working working, working, working working. That was me, like figuring out how to properly apply the hair and then move it forward from there. That also includes braiding. The hair, so I'm starting with the Lister's pink super moisturizing curl definer, and this is what I use to moisturize my hair, underneath these hips the lots, and I made sure that I worked this in down the shaft of my hair as well as the ends and Then you want to make sure that you're not like grabbing up your baby hairs when you're doing this, because you want to leave your baby hairs out, so you don't have to pull them out later when you're styling them so we're just gon na start off. By doing a three strand, braid your traditional braid and I'm just separating my hair into three sections and then I'm going to proceed to braid the hair and we're gon na braid it down about three to four inches. I think that's far enough for you to go. I don't think you have to braid it all the way down to the very end. So this is what the brain looks like. We have a little bit of space at the root. We didn't do it too tight, so we'll have enough room to crochet the hair. In so this is what the hip still looks like. It has a little curlicue at the bottom, a little bit of extra Marley here at the top and we're just going to put our crochet needle through the base of our braid. Then we're gon na hook. The little loop that's on the hips, to lock on the crochet needle right here then we're going to pull the loop under the braid also pulling through that Marley hair to the other side. And then, once you get the Marley hair through, you can pull the opposite side of the faux lock to get the loop back towards the base and from here you want to keep the loop on the crochet hook and then you're gon na hook. Your hair on to the crochet hook as well, so you can pull it through the loop and you want to make sure you hook your hair kind of towards the bottom, the lower second half of the hair and then you're gon na pull that through the loop. So this is an important step because you want to make sure your braid is thin enough to fit through this loop, because if it's too thick, then you're not going to be able to pull your hair all the way three. So if you have more dense hair, you might have to part your hair a little bit smaller in order to compensate for your braids fitting through the loop. So once you pull it through, I'm just tightening the loop all the way at the root of the hair. You may have some excess product kind of build up when you pull that loop down, but you should have your hair on one side, the marley hair and then the hipster LOC hair from here. This is the part that is a little bit more time-consuming. You want to take your crochet hook and needle you want to feed this up through the center of the hips to lock, and you want to make sure that none of the crochet needle is kind of slipping out and shining, because once you pull your hair through. That'S where the braids will show, so you want to make sure you're kind of keeping this in the middle of the hips a lot so that your hair is fully concealed when you pull your hair through. So I'm starting about halfway down the hip, still a lot pushing my crochet crochet needle up through the lock all the way to the top. So again, when you do this at the back ear here, it may be a little bit more difficult versus the front of the hair, because you can fully see and make sure that you have that crochet hook fully enclosed in the hips the lot and then once You get to the top, we want to open your crochet needle, and you want to hook your hair on, just as we did before kind of between the middle and the lower half portion of the braid. You want to hook your hair on you wan na make sure all your hair is hooked in that crochet needle then you're gon na close the hook and then you're gon na pull your hair through and for me it was easier to kind of shift and scrunch The hipster LOC hair up on my hair versus just pulling it straight through. I was kind of pushing that hipster lock up on my hair, as I was pulling my hair down with the crochet needle and then once you see your hair on the other end, you can start pulling that out. So you'll see the end of your hair. Now you're gon na have to do this. If you have hair about my length, you'll have to do this two times unless you have an extra long, crochet needle or something. But what I did was make sure my hair was still moisture eyes on the ends and then I went coming towards the curlicue at the end of the hip slot and I began putting my crochet needle in again and repeating that process. So we're just gon na push this crochet needle up to the point where my hair sticking out we're gon na hook, my hair on a crochet needle and then we're gon na pull that through and you'll see by scrunching the hair up making sure that we're feeding It through more of the hipster lot than the length of my hair, it's very beneficial, because once you pull it through the second time, all you have to do is pull the end of the hips a lot and your hair will bounce back into the lock. So once you do that now you can pull the Marley piece to make sure your hair is kind of tight at the top and then you're gon na use this to conceal the quote-unquote knots at the top of your foot lock and another thing about this hair That I really like is that the hair looks like natural locks when they're in like the budding phase and they kind of have like they're, not a super straight shape, and then the way I'm twisting the Marley hair is in the same direction. That the faux lock is twisted, and I'm just driving this at the top of the hair, and when I get to the end, I just separate the end. So it can kind of mesh a little bit more with the full lock. And then I rub it in between my hands, and this is just how I keep this piece of hair locked and the more you kind of brush it out or separate it. The better it'll kind of adhere to itself versus having to burn the hair. If you want a super secure look, you can definitely attempt to like burning the hair as if it was your regular, full, lock wrapping method, but this is all I did. I just rubbed it between my hands and I was good to go so here. We'Re gon na do the same thing on this second braid, all right, so, first height down again, I've had these in for about two weeks. I'M just gon na do the two locks in the front right here, so you want to let's see if we could get closer, so you want to kind of fun where you wrap that hair around and then start kind of trying to get it a loose. So I'm just like doing this kind of deal and see now that is loosed from the lock and I can just unravel that all the way to the top, and once we get up here, let's see if we can find the braids. So there's my braid we're gon na go ahead and pull that bad boy out. So that's my hair, oh nice and moisture Roz, yes, and then from here you got to find the loop that you pulled your breakthrough from and you want to be careful because, like I just got nails and I kind of found it so actually that's my and I'M just kind of like pulling this. I honestly I'm not in front of the muse. So this is not like. Okay, there we go focus. Okay, so yeah, I did pull the loop and then you just pull that excess hair out and now we just got my mogul braided piece of hair and it is more oh girl and it is just as moisturize. So that's that my hair is out. So I'm gon na do one more just because that was my first time taking one of these out and I just went with a my widow's be here. Why is this something that one anyway so we're gon na do one more? So that's basically the take down. So, which is going to jump into the outro and that's it so what I'm basically saying here is to preserve my hair at night. I just used a setting mousse and put it all over my hair, and then I put a do-rag going. I'M also mentioning like at night after I put a do-rag one, I might put a jump up on it on it, which you can find at your local beauty supply store. When I go in the shower, I use a jumbo shower cap. One other thing I forgot to mention is that this hair is super lightweight. It is very lightweight it moves very easily and then also I style, my hair, a few different ways. While having my hair like this, sometimes I would do have a path down like that, or I would do like a top ponytail or like a side or a middle part in here. I'M just just realizing like yes, it is super lightweight, because a lot of people ask me: are the faux locs heavy, whatever whatever, and then I decorated them with these hooks and little clips from the local beauty supply store. I hope you all enjoyed this video make sure you all give it a huge thumbs up like this video and subscribe, if you're not already subscribed enjoying the gym squad. It’sAlexilixYT: Who else thinks her skin completion is SOO PRETTY like HOW?

candy sugersweet: This is a great tutorial. One of the best hair tutorials I've watched lol. Youtube is so much more organized now. She answered the questions, gave us the "how-to", AND take out; all with great lighting and quality in under 20mins. LMAOOO Got me commenting like I review videos for a living or sum. p.s. sooo pretty too!

akatobi2002: Oh bet! We adding this to the protective style roster. I love the worn in look

Simone Brown: I installed my crochet locs a few days ago and I have 44 locs too and honestly it's the best number... lightweight, easy to style and just enough to cover the scalp. For my sanity I had to reduce the number of locs on my head as I self install.

Mal Mal: I’m so glad I found this video! I wanted to install my own and this made the process seem less complicated.

Victoria Umoren: Why can’t every hair YouTuber be this informative ffs. She even told us how many locks per packet!! Dayum!!

Charlene .W.: i love that you counted your braids for us when you could’ve just done *(3x16)-4=44* dedication to your views fr

Jade Saichai: You made these look so easy. I’m glad you showed the take down process!

YourRadiantSoul: Just came across you today for the first time. You explain everything so freaking well!!! New subbie

Miss Manley: Thanks Sis! Just finished This Today, Love it

Miss Agapedesire: Wow ! thank you so much for this tutorial. I love faux locs but hate the amount of time and tension it put on my hair. I am excited to try it !

Tyesha Glam: Very detailed tutorial with perfect detail. Love the way they came out.

Elizabeth Helen: I love these locs! They look beautiful.

Rae N.: Never tried anything like this but they look so good!

Tasheka Shields: I'm new to your page but I'm so glad I found it. You are so informative and absolutely beautiful

chanelle johnson: Your so pretty naturally I’m amused also I tried this style and it worked for me so thank you

Villanelle71: Appreciate your thorough review. The Q & A was wonderful and the tips w care.... Yes, definitely will be doing an install soon. Thank you

ChicStyleYoYo: These are beautiful!! They look so natural, great job!

Love Lee event planning L.L.C.: Thanks for this I’ll try it. I’ve done faux locs a few times but a few did come loose but I’ve never pulled my hair through. But I’m definitely going to have to do this on wet hair cause my hair is thick and long . God I hope that helps

Sean Alexis: Great video!!! Very detailed without the redundancy!!!

Mari P: This is sooo helpful, I’m going to the beauty supply store tonight! Also you’re sooo pretty!

Jessica Mahone: Looks so natural

Monique Milam: You are gorgeous!!! I love this style thanks for sharing

Michelle AW: Knowing that you stated you did your whole head from front to back...I bow down to you! I have seen people rub the lic as you did, but also they kept poking it with something as well. Kudos to you

Afrodeity: My hair broke so badly from the root after doing faux locs AND I had big chopped 2 years before - I literally shaved my head BALD ‍♀️ my hair was so beautiful and thick and by the time I took the locs down, I looked like Alonzo Arnold (the wig guru) without his wig on. The style was gorgeous, but I did my single braids way too thin for the thick long loc that was to be attached to it and I had them in for about 2+ months‍♀️. At the moment my hair is in two strand twists (since April 29th) as I’m trying to grow back all the hair that was ripped from my scalp and so far it’s growing back nicely. The roots are much thicker than my ends and so every so often I trim the ends. I’m so pissed I set myself back 3 years!!!I want to try the faux again, I think I’ll need to do bigger sections tho, but I’m so scared!! Not sure whether to do it or not ‍♀️

Janaya Y: thank you for saying how many locs u put on and used. I've been so confused to how many packs I need to buy

T.: Looks very nice on you sis, but as for me I always go with whatever is the quickest when I do my individual crochets. I usually crochet the hair, then wrap the hair with a separate stand of kinky curly hair then wrap. Feeding the braid through... or just unraveling the crochet hair to wrap it just takes too long for me! Lol

AfricaJourney: I did this method before but can't say I would do it this way ever again...it just took way too long , my hair is thick so I had to make alot of smaller sections. But it was super cute after it was done.

pgc3534: Hi Slim. I love your videos esp the one on passion twists. I have a question - how do I camouflage thinning damaged hair in the center of my head with the twist or box?

alexis macklin: Omg thankyou!! I’ve been wanting to know how to do these!!! Thankyou Thankyou!

Boo Santos: Vc é lindaaa amei as locss

laylay's world: If you get in a fight or if your hair is getting pull for what ever reason will the faux locs stay in or would they slide out

Tristan Adger: what might have caused the slipping is once you wash your hair you don’t really wanna put oils/moisture back into your hair until you’ve finished the whole look and then u just wanna put it in the parts and not into the locs- if that make sense

hot flash: how long can you keep these locs in?

oceanskyy: So helpful thank uu✨

HighVibin Monae: Hey, what make up products do you use for your brow? Also, any recommendations on how to go about doing them?

Ezarhia J MUA: Your hair is absolutely beautiful. How long is it possible to leave this style in??

Mystery Black Studio: "Yes', you look good girl, I love your natural all the way, but you're fine in those Freetress Braid, Stay well, and take care...

Nikki Nicole: Thanks love it

Eboni H: Yep I’m doing this next for sureee

Tiffany M: Thank you!! I have to try this

MYESHA 💜: amazing!

JaiLove: I just discovered her channel and lemme tell you....giiiiiiiirlllllll I love you and your videos

WeRepSociety: Really good info frfr ! Love it ! You look gorg!

Kessia Reine: Do they cause hair damage??

Rabibi Lah: Did the hair ever get tangled? I’ve seen that with some faux locs brands where the locs started getting matted/ tangled

Garrett Shannon White: Beautiful

Nilexus Crawford: How many packages did Of hair did you use?

Lorpu Johnson: Thank you so much for this video. Now can please tell where you got the hair form

Hosea DeMarzino: Whew tbh i didn't watch this ...it popped up searching for something and I was like she's gorgeous...ok off I go now

Carmel Frimpong-Manso: Is it painful when they braid at the saloon? And also how long could it last long?

Good Living: Where did you get that lipgloss from it looks real cute

Kosarachi Arole: I keep in Braids for a month i clean it every week cause i do not have the luxury of time

Mekeishakayla: How many packs did you use? I bought 4 from the beauty supply shop. Will that be enough?

La Wanda Duliepre: OMGGGG! You're so Gorgeous

atz long journey: do you think we can reuse them ?

standingstare: I really want to try this

Des Coop:

Vwd68: Should I try this for a first protective style?

Fay X.: Saw you on Pinterest, Chile you’re so pretty.❤️

J as: Can you do this on short hair? But long enough to do a small braid

Hagan Benson: You’re sooooo beautiful!!!!!!

Miur Touissi: Those are the most natural looking faux locs I’ve ever seen but it looks so damaging and the installation looks so complicated :(

DezaréxMichelle: When will the locs be available?

lovablelibra: When its time to take it out, l would get so frustrated l would end up cutting it all off

ColorJunkee: You are so gorgeous!

Ariel Wesley: Your beautiful omg

bshatajshina: Can you use these for regular crochet braids?

Mercy Oni: The hair is beautiful I wanted to order it but shipping fee to Germany is 75$

Bunnlyx: Best tutorial

ieeshamack: Them eye brows doe. I wanna try these.

Brian Peachy: OKAY but how do I make my eyes as white as yours because you’re looking like a whole Disney princess and Im watching this with marbles for eyeballs

Jasmine: This method always confuses me. I alwsybhave difficulty getting the braid through the loop

Annette: Is the hair available yet? Shake n Go said they'd be sharing the link (for Hipsta Locs) with all people who did demo installations on YouTube.

Jasmine: Facts! Washing baby hairs is important!

jeannesha S: Can you put a rubber band at the root of your hair to make faux locs not slip out of your hair?

Shi Scott: No way. There has to be an easier way to do this

Tonya D. Eggleston: Couldn’t you just untwist the loc from throat & wrap the loc around the braid. Until it’s concealed. Then wrap Marley hair ??? Beautiful hairstyle btw !!

Ruby Douglas: Hi slim reshae how are you love your videos

𝘚𝘺. 𝘔𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴: I want get these for my birthday in april im just worried i cant do it cause i did the big chop in November of Last year and im kinda worried my hair is too short

Tieara Scott: Have u tried wrapping them it method took forever i got frustrated it takes too long

Paula: Can they be reused?

Mariah Francois: If I use 4 packs will it do cuz each packs has ten strands of hair maths

Tierra H: I cut my hair so it’s like 3 inches long , do u think this will slip out

Ciara: How do you wash your baby hairs do you have a video and what gel do you use

Monie T: ty for showing how to do the takedown

Princess Yonna ♡: Does it matter if the parts are neat

Sanaa: Can someone tell me how her video is so sharp? Is it a Cannon camera? Or Phone?

Kaila: are these itchy? ive had trouble with finding braiding and crochet hair that doesn’t make ur scalp itch

Ciara: And what make up do you use lol cause it looks cute af

TC: That’s a lot of work for crochet Locs but it’s cute

Tiarra Green: I love this vid but all the extra hand movements is kinda distracting cuz I keep staring at her nails

Myrna J: Gem Squad!!✔

Butter Bean: I have medium density but a big ass head lmao

Rinne Michelle: Are these locs soft. Mine are scratchy

Rami Chaman: I have a question! Can brown people (Indian, Pakistani) do locs? Cuz no one rlly talks about that! I was just wondering:)

Shawaniea: I would be the wave if they were 30 inches

Jasmin Brown: Do you do installs

J Renaud: This sounds remarkably confusing. Thanks though. Yikes!
