Human Hair Keepsake & Mourning Jewelry With Copperelegy

LIVING HIGH VIBE // Episode 2

“It is something that freaks people out at first.”

Gina Iacovelli’s artistic medium is a bit out of the ordinary in this day and age—it’s human hair.

Gina and her jewelry business, Copperelegy, are the latest focus in our Living High Vibe video series. The videos are all about inspiring individuals and their unique hobbies or jobs!

LIVING HIGH VIBE means doing what lights you up, and Gina embodies this notion through her work every day. She got involved in reviving Victorian-era hair work patterns when she realized her dream job wasn't fulfilling her completely. She found herself stuck behind a computer all day, and just needed a creative outlet to work with her hands. Copperelegy was born out of this need and passion.

For me, the biggest, I guess the treat that I have, that kind of led me to it is my rebellious nature, just because it is something that kind of breaks people out universe to know, and it's I want to challenge people's their norms every day to get Them questioning, oh that's beautiful. What is that? Oh, it's you like and then like people, hand it back to me or they don't even want to touch it. Most of the time typically was made, while the number was living just kind of a keepsake, but it was very popular during like the civil war in America just because it was right before photography. So that's what we see most of the pieces from America. I think things that are out of the ordinary are the only things that really can help. You change your perspective, so you know, like you, have to kind of questions, so it's like alright. Well, why are just society feel that the hair is so beautiful when it's on our head, but the second is, you know, disconnects from the body it's kind of considered disgusting, it's like. Why is that? Where does that come from so the whole point of my art is to kind of get people to question something as simple as hair biggest part of the tradition of it back when we would gather together. So it wasn't just you went to an artist and purchase a piece like you would make the hair keep saying. Let me send it to a jeweler to set, but the women actually were the one set, but it takes practice just like anything, but you know it also takes kind of a natural creative ability to be able to see hair

Deborah Blaylock: Wow, I saved my sons beard trimmings and have designed a paper bead for a necklace encasing the trimmings. I wish I had some of his hair but they would not let me since my son developed MRSA while in the hospital, the last 4 months of his life. We had saved his beard trimmings from the year prior because it was not affected. I wish I had known that they wouldn't let me have the hair, I would have trimmed it when I did his beard. I do have his ashes from cremation. I used MICA powders to create different colors and created similiar to sand art, that are put in little clear containers. I really enjoy seeing his favorite colors and his ashes are disguised in a bottle like you are using . I then used sterling silver, beading wire and gorgeous sea glass in his favorite colors. I braided a design that goes around the glass container fitting tightly and sealed shut. I didnt want to take a chance of one of them possibly being mistaken for any white powdered drug. I gave them to each of my children as a keepsake from his memorial service. Thank you for sharing this beautiful art.

Starlight and Dreams: I lost my father in 2019. I have a good amount of his hair and I would like to make a piece for myself and my mother. I miss him so much and people actually always remember my Dad's hair. Should I practice with artificial hair first?

Q RADDY: I saw that outlander book :)
