How To Install Wigs Over Long Locs | Flat + Easy, Flat Twist Method, Wig Prep, Sisterlocks

Wig over long locs tutorial, Goodies! For real this time two years ago I made a video of my first time ever putting a wig over my locks as an experiment. A lot of people were upset by it LOL! Here’s the link if you want a good laugh https://youtu.be/uMxhZw6gnZk

This video shows how to do prep your locs under a wig. I managed to create a grid that keeps the wig as flat as possible so you don’t look like a bobble head! It’s great for those of you who may want to wear a wig for Halloween and/or cosplay. There’s nothing wrong with experimenting with your hair I hope you all enjoy ❤️

Thanksgiving good day, hey, ladies welcome back to my channel and welcome if you're new, my name is imani and i'm going to show you all how i prep my waist to lower back length hair. I think that's how long my hair is currently for a wig, and i think it's a great video for those of you who want to put on wigs for halloween or for cosplay or for whatever reason. If you just wanted to have versatility of having locks underneath - and you want to put on a way just to spice things up, so i'm just going to go ahead and get started, it's going to be a pretty straightforward approach. I'M going to do a flat twist. All the way down to the back of my hair and pin it up in the back, and if you want to see how i do that, let's just dive right in and all you're going to need, are these kind of bobby pins, two scrunchies. Just to section my hair off so we're gon na go ahead and just start down the middle. It doesn't need to be straight. It'S gon na be under a wig and i'm going to loosely do sections from the front. I just eyeball it and i'm going to start from the middle and i'll show you the first section. Okay, so i have my first section does not need to be perfect and don't mind me. I need to do an acv wash. My scalp is dry. I'M going to attempt to show you all how to do a flat twist for those of you who don't know you just go ahead and start at the front of your section and then split that into two sections i like to put the right section under and The left section over and what you do is once you have those two sections together, you just go ahead and right side under the left side like this, and then i feed the hair. Like this, you pick up a section, not too big. I have a couple more locks added to the right side and then once it's added to the right cluster, you go under again and the left side is over and you just keep feeding small sections into the right side until you go back, it doesn't need to Be super tight for those of you who are wondering why i'm not doing cornrows or braids, like you, normally see people with loose natural hair doing when they prep their hair for a wig install it's because locks tend to be thicker and not as easily condensable as Loose natural hair - and this way twists, for me at least, appear to be easier to compress and they're, also more malleable at the ends. Braids tend to be stiffer than twists when you twist your locks and twists are just a lot easier for me to do than braids. Also full transparency, the white stuff that you're seeing at my roots, is dandruff. Like many people, i struggle with dandruff, but particularly only during colder seasons. So now that fall is coming around in winter, i'm getting a little bit more build up, but this buildup goes away when i dilute acv, so apple cider, vinegar, put it at my roots for 20 minutes and then go about the rest of my wash day. Normally. So i'll definitely do a video on that. If you have a similar struggle, but no my hair isn't dirty. I just need to do an acv wash now that you're done twisting the flat twist part all the way down to the nape of your neck. All you do is finish it off. By continuing to twist, i try to roll the hair, as i twist around my finger, because i feel that that helps it condense so kind of like this. A little bit just make sure it's all uniform and you kind of do that motion as you are twisting all the way down, and this is where i tend to do it a little tighter, because i think it helps condense and then now, i'm all the way Down at the end, if you feel as though you need to have a little elastic band at the end, go ahead. But i personally my hair seems to just stay without having to use an elastic band and i don't have to worry about the twists coming out. So, just twist twist twist, it's okay if it looks a little wanky and a little thick. That is what the twisted part looks like. So i'm going to go ahead and do this throughout the rest of my head, okay, y'all! So i have completely twisted both sides. So a total of 12 flat twists. This is what it looks like. The parts definitely aren't perfect, but that's okay, and now i'm going to show you how i'm going to pin the ends of the flat twists so that they can be as flat as possible. Once you put a wig cap over it, so i'm going to treat it as two sections. So split the twist in half, i'm gon na work with the left section first and i'm going to do a twisting motion to help the twists be one big twist and tuck to this side. You'Ll see what i mean so grabbing twist number one when your twists are just relaxed by the way they're a little bit more puffy a good way to make sure that they're less puffy before you start twisting all of them together you twist in the direction that You were twisting and you can see how it's constricted do that, so that it can be even tighter and take up less space. So you do that as you're grabbing the other twist to do a jumbo flat twist around the nape of your neck. So those are going to be those six, so i just grabbed one and two: this is twist three around. It was four and five and just twist and grab as you go like so until you do all six and then once you get to the end, you just go ahead and grab a bobby pin as you just roll these together as tightly as you possibly can, And you're going to get that section of flat twist that you didn't twist lift them up the bottom, so you can put the twisted section underneath it then you're going to have, depending on the length of your hair, some extra go ahead and pull it through to One section i just removed two of the flat twists on this one and put them between the nooks and crannies of the twists and grab a bobby pin and the end of that twist, you're going to pin into the flat twist on the scalp like. I just did so. The end was pinned into this twist itself. Just keeps grabbing bobby pins and securing them the end into the body of it, and you can even tuck the end. If you didn't do the twist too tight, like you, see me doing here, underneath and into the twist itself and it's pretty secure and then for the other side grab the ends of them and fold up, i'm going to start from the innermost twist you're going to Go all the way across to the left and tuck it in between another twist and then don't go too far up just keep folding it, but keeping it in between that twist, so that it's not too high up on the crown, because you don't want it to Be too high up and then you're just going to keep pinning it like you did the other side. You pin the ends into the flat twist, so you just keep doing that. Just do some guesswork and tuck things under pin as you need another one. So when i say in between the twist here's the flat twist, here's the end of the twist literally put it in between two and then fold down, because you don't need it going above. The crown of your head, because that's where you're going to get a bump in your scalp and they keep going up and down like spaghetti, noodles and secure it and then i'll show you what it looks like when i'm all done with this guess work. You should think of it as a tiny little puzzle. My suggestion for those of you who have maybe longer locks or thicker locks like dreadlocks traditional locks or you have shorter hair and the ends of your hair are thicker because you have a newer locks. I just suggest doing smaller twist parts, so maybe try 14 to 20 twists instead of the 12 that i did and then that way at least the bottom end will be able to be smaller and easier to twist up into the wig. And this is what it looks like when you kind of tuck the back as low to the back as possible, while still having the front being relatively flat. So this is what it looks like side view front view you can see. There'S no ends of twist. All the way up here, no because that's going to make your wig lift more than needs to just keep it condensed to the bottom as as flat and as small of a portion as possible. And then, when you're ready, you go ahead and grab your wig cap and you place it over. I'M gon na go from the back up and voila. Then you go ahead and grab your wig. I don't know how to put on a wig. I don't know how to style it, but let's see everyone meet edna mode. She is a lace front. I don't really know much about wigs. The lady at the beauty. Supply store just helped me get one that she thought would look good with my face, but we're gon na try uh. It has like clips in the back and the side. I think, and that also has these like hooks, i'm going to start from the back and it stretches a little bit and go to the front so back, oh wow, it's actually working. I think question mark got to push it forward. Oh, i think i'm, since this is how you know i don't put on waves. I think i realize i'm not supposed to have my wig cap like on my forehead. I need to push it back adjusting and there you go um wow. I'M actually pretty surprised that this worked um this it has a little bit of a like. I think, a a bump. I mean you guys can tell me how much of a bump i'm surprised it doesn't have too much of one, but i also think i just need to adjust. I'M not even gon na lie, kinda, i'm kind of into it for the second wig meet chaka khan. Here chaka khan is, she looks great in my opinion. Honestly, it's giving more scissors it's giving good days out and yeah it's a lot of hair. You can see the front um on this one. I just pushed it back a little bit more because there's a comb in the front of this wig, you know like the combs that help keep it in place and it was just hurting. So it doesn't matter because it's a really really big wig. You can't see it so this is just more for comfort than anything i just wanted to be transparent. Wigs are so alien to me. The feeling of it is really tight. Um, since i never put any type of leather hair in my hair in the back, though, you can see it's all in there um, so it's not like i'm hiding anything for reference for both of these wigs. I used regular sized wigs. I believe they didn't have large or anything like that at the beauty supply store, but i was able to comfortably fit my hair under this bob wig. But if you have thicker locks by nature, so maybe you have dreadlocks or traditional locks or you just have a lot a lot of hair and you have thick hair. Maybe a bone straight. Wig won't work for you, but that doesn't mean you can't fit your hair. Underneath a wig, you might just want to try to go towards bigger wigs like this, because if the wig has more volume, it doesn't matter about the hump in the back that you might get from the hair. So just take that into consideration when you're picking out your wig and if it's feasible or not for you to wear a wig at all but yeah. So i hope this is really helpful for those of you who did watch all the way through comment down below what cosplay and what halloween costumes. You are now going to be able to do, because you happen to stumble upon this video. Well, as always, i hope you had a fantastic time watching this video. Imani Goodridge: Some tips! :) - Longer, thicker locs? Consider a wig with more volume (like the second wig in this video, afro, etc.) instead of a bone straight wig - Longer, thicker locs, newer locs with thicker ends? Try smaller flat twists. I did 12. Maybe try 14-20 - Twists are easier (for me) to do than braids. - Twists are easier to compress than braids. - Twists are more malleable; they’re easier to bend at the ends than braids.
