Hey everyone, it's Joel and welcome back to my channel so for this week's video I decided to try shine and jam on my hair to see if it was going to help with holding my braid out see if it would help definition last a little bit longer. But of course before we get started, please don't forget to click that subscribe button down below and if you're the honorable black owned business. Please send me an email at Charmaine, Royale gmail.com, but go ahead and click the Google link down below. But let's get started. So last night I decided to do a wash day and then, after that, I had this idea wondering if shine and jam would be a good holder for helping keep my definition a little bit longer. Usually, when I stretch out my hair or do a braid out or twist out I'll, usually use like a butter and stuff like that. But I had some shine and jam left over for when from when I had my hair done and put in Senegalese twists. Also, a couple weeks ago, or at the beginning of November, we went to. I went to California with my mom and my sister, and I did a twist out on my mom's hair using shine and jam and twist out came out great. The first time. She'D ever had a twist out, I didn't bring my candle with me, so I didn't get to film it. The reason I wanted to try. It is because I did that twist set on her hair, and then we went to the beach the next day and her hair held up so nice, like it literally, didn't affect her towards like the humidity at the beach or just all the water in the air. It literally didn't even seem to affect her hair at all. So I was wondering you know: would that do the same thing for me? Would it have the same effect, so I decided to try. I do a little bit of an experiment. So last night I washed my hair and then of course, I broke out my handy dandy and trusty Rivera reverse blow dryer. All I used on my hair was my Cantu leave-in conditioning cream, and then I used a little bit of a heat protectant, because you always want to use some kind of a heat protectant on your hair. I just grabbed this, like Tresemme heat, protecting that was at Fry's. It was the only one they had at the store for whatever reason. So that's the one I went with after you know, blow drying out each section I took about a dime size amount of my shine and jam, and I spread that onto each section before braiding up and twisting the ends. You know just my usual stretching routine. Usually, I will leave my hair in the braids for like a couple days, usually about like three days before taking it out, but I was interested to see if just wearing them in, for that one night, like I did with my moms if the shiny Jam would Help hold any definition in my hair now, usually the first area that I will lose definition is in the very front. So that's kind of the part I was most interested in. I I also only use about a dime size amount, because I wasn't sure if it was going to make my hair stiff or not, but what I like so far about the shiny Jam is it's a conditioning gel it's not as watery, at least in my opinion. It'S not as watery as like a normal gel and the fact that it's conditioning, so I kind of, was interested to see how that would make my ends feel I like how thick I like. I just like the consistency and the texture of the shine and jam. So this was actually kind of fun for me to use and if you've been with my channel, you know, gels just don't seem to work on my hair, like at all they tend to flake or leave some sort of crazy residue on my hair and the shiny Jam didn't do that whatsoever. So this morning I took out my hair again checked for residue and didn't see anything and the definition was really really nice. I was very excited about how the hair came out after I initially unbraided it shine. It just feels so soft. My ends looked great. I think Jack and jam also smells really good if that matters to some people, it's not like a super strong smell, but I, like I love, I love the scent of it. It didn't seem to be too too heavy on my hair. That was the other thing that I like, I think, because it's a conditioning gel it leaves the hair a little bit softer. I know that typically people will use it for when they do protective styles. I don't know if people use shine and jam for their edges. I'M not someone who lays my edges, so I'm not 100 sure on that, but so far I was really really really loving it, but I decided I was like you know. This is what it looks like inside. You know how is it going to hold up when I go outside? It'S been quite rainy. The last couple days here in Arizona and I figured since it wasn't heavily raining today, but it was still wet out. How would my hair react? Would it still hold up so I ran the target to just like return, some stuff, and I know this right when I got back in the car. This was about like an hour and a half after I hadn't done. My hair at the very front, had already seemed to kind of start, to straighten out a bit and really fluff up I've. I'Ve lost some of my definition, which isn't honestly that shocking the bottoms you know have held up. I think that's just because it's covered by all the hair on top of it. This is usually how things go for me. This is usually how my my twist outs end up. So maybe maybe it's just my hair. Maybe there's not some kind of magic product. That'S gon na, like really hold my hair together for a long period of time. Who knows this is what it looks like after running the target so definitely lost some definition, but nothing to cry over a little more volume isn't going to hurt anybody, but this is kind of the end result of being outside, like I don't know, maybe 10 or 20 minutes, so I'm wondering if maybe leaving my hair in the braids for a couple more days and also maybe using some kind of like anti-frizz serum along with the conditioning cream or excuse me with the conditioning gel, slash, shine Jam. I'M wondering if that would result in a better result, so I'm assuming I may have to try this again. I want to get there's this hair pump. I can't remember the name of it. I'Ll try to put a picture of it but, like my mom had used that on her hair. Since I was a kid, I used it when I was a teenager and had relaxed hair. It'S like this hair polish, that's supposed to be like an anti-frizz hair polish interested in seeing, if maybe applying, that, would yield in a better result. For me so far, the pros are that one I'm a fan of the fact that it hasn't flaked on my hair and that's left my hair, very, very soft. I think this is the one and only like gel, that I feel safe and comfortable actually using and not like worried about some. You know not worried about residue or like a white cast on my hair flaking all over my clothes or anything like that. It also doesn't leave like a crunchy feeling. I can't stand the crunchy feeling of gel just me personally, so those were kind of the pros of using shine and jam so far for me, so I am a fan of shine and jam. I think I just need to use it in conjunction with something something else. I'M also wondering if maybe if I had used a little bit more China Jam, I didn't want to use too much that it looked like start to revert the blown out of hair. The stretched hair, while I was uh applying it, but I'm wondering if battery used along with other products but yeah, that's my experiment with shiny Jam. I still like it, but I'm wondering if using some like anti-fruitous serum along with it might help or maybe I just need to use some more shine and jam. I don't I don't really know. Maybe the dime sized amounts on each section wasn't really enough, but I'm not too mad at this, but I hope you guys enjoyed please don't forget to click that subscribe button down below keep blooming and I'll see you guys in my next video foreign

Jerseystarlet: It's actually refreshing to see another person who also deals with losing definition so fast. For years I thought I was doing something wrong, but learned it's just the way my hair is and to just focus on the health of my hair instead of stressing on perfect definition like "the other girls" which becomes expensive, toxic to my mental health, and delays the success of my hair.

Amateur Astronomer: Hey Joy-el. The only “magic product” that holds my twist puts together for a whole week is mousse, especially Mousse def by the Doux. I recommend using a light leave in underneath, but gosh darn does it do the job! I could not believe how well it worked! It’s like I had been living under a rock my whole natural hair journey I will not use anything else on a twistout/braid out. And I live in Ga where it is almost always 98% humidity (not joking haha). HIGHLY recommend if that’s what you’re on the lookout for. Also sleeping in a buff vs a bonnet did wonders for keeping my hair stretched throughout the week. They sale silk lined ones too!

Regina Gordon: Joy-el I hope you’re not offended by this but the way you care for your hair and how compassionate you are. I can tell when or if you decide to have kids you’re going to be an awesome mom love the video your hair is gorgeous. I think the longer your hair gets the more it looses it curl definition.

I'm Grateful: Your hair has grown beautifully. You’re doing something right!❤❤

Ashley Chemise: I've been watching your hair journey for a while and your hair looks so beautiful! It's gotten so long. Rock on hair sista!

Bernadettemarie 1959: That edit shot after Target made me laugh out loud. Yes, there was a difference but your hair still looked great! That was a real moment that we all know so well. I love gel, and I have had no problem with it on my hair. So far ECO is better on my hair. I have very little left, so I would love to try this. I can't believe how long your hair has grown; good for you!

Very KinkyCurl: Those juicy braids coming out of that bag and after when you did them for a braid out was sooooo cute! I’d give a left arm for that density you got hun. Great vid Joy-el. I hope you are doing well❤

Lisa J: Great video. I love when people show the real and honest results. I think we can all style our hair and make it look good for 1 hour. But the results after that first hour are the REAL results. Your initial result was a model-level photo shoot result. I mean, could you REALLY walk around that perfect for any length of time?? LOL. After the Target run was the real, type 4 hair result. xoxo

VEE: I got similar results. I used my RevAir, apply the shine n jam, but I just braided my roots and then twisted. Left them in overnight, the definition was pretty ok. I also live in AZ, and it was windy that day, so the definition was gone after i left the house. I did half up, half down, my hair was blowing everywhere, lol. It still looked good. It was just fluffy after.

Faith Williams: In my experience, I get much better definition when I do my braid outs on wet or damp hair. I do not use gels. My best results are with Camille Rose Naturals Almond Jai Twisting Butter or Shea Moisture's Curl Enhancing Smoothie. With these products, I get soft, shiny, defined, flake-free, frizz-free hair that lasts for at least 4 days without re-braiding. If I want my hair stretched, I stretch with a blow dryer during styling. Perhaps this might work for you.

Kayla: Yes I love pomades/jams/edge gels! I liked Lusters Edge Gel when I used it. I find pomades to be the best of both worlds, they give you the hold without the crunchy feeling. And I’ve also been experimenting with greases, they give me shine and some nice definition as well. I’ve always hated a gel with a crunchy gel cast because I always thought my type 4 hair was going to break off at the slightest touch

Nicole Eboni: Your hair is beautiful!! Last I checked your hair wasn't that long! It grew overnight!! Love it! Your hair reminds me of mine so much texture and density, I kinda same issues with frizz with braid or twist outs so I just leave them in twist unless I got out or next wash day!

natasha martinez: this braid out looks soooooo good omg

SolarSister: The results were really beautiful. Maybe try doing it on damp stretched hair if that make sense. Like drying it 85 to 90 percent so that as the hair dries it can set the curls while the gel holds the set in place.

Spongebob: Omg this is the only gel I have/use. It was the first gel that actually laid down my hair.

CurlyTonya: It came out so cute! Humidity always do that to my hair! I always retwist or braid my hair at night. I use a butter and a little water to help set.

Nicole Smith: It looks gorgeous! Perfect amount of frizz and definition

Nicole Williams: I need to give it a try. I am not a traditional gel girl, so it's worth a shot. I love how your hair turned out.

Brittany Brooks: I use the Shine n Jam when I do braids, but I noticed it always leaves product buildup on my scalp. Like huge flakes. My hair isn’t like that when I simply do wash n go’s with other products

Zina Mckenzie: Beautiful results… I am looking forward to my 1st time having Knotless Braids. My hair has grown and I need a luscious protective break❤… Knotless braids done and guess what gel was used “Shine n Jam the best ever, no flaking, no itching. ❤

Samantha X: The style still looks nice even after your target run

efhawkins19: Joy-el, on your next braidout, use some of the frizz-buster with more of the shining jam. You just may be onto something. I like more definition than frizz. I have the same issue with my twists.

Baking Cutie: Your fluffy braid out is really pretty!!

Shereese Blackman: I find that the smaller the braids are in the braid out the longer the definition lasts. Maybe put in smaller braids in the front and see if that works.

shaune hemphill: You look so pretty and your hair omg so thick and healthy and growing ❤❤❤❤

Candace Beater: Hello Joy-el. Believe it or not but I have the same issue. What works for me to keep curl definition is plain water and Palmers coconut oil moisture grow hairdress. Also I do a three strand twist. For me that really makes my curls pop.

Lisa: You're hair is gorgeous growing so fast you look really pretty

Ani: I actually love this. So pretty!!

Karen Avant: You should really try SoftSheen Care Free Curl (Gold) Instant Activator for natural hair. I use it when I take my 2/3 strand twists out.

surgedeb: Your hair is so beautiful and getting so long. I love it ❤️

b Skye: Aww we missed your moms twist out…. Oh great that it was good for the beach // That’s great that it doesn’t flake either

Smooth Flight: It's all love Beloved . You're hair is super thick and healthy and that's good hair. Your hair is as beautiful as your personality and gorgeous face. Blessings

malindarayallen: @newgrowthnaturals loves that gel! She is a fantastic natural hair stylist you're from the Cayman islands. Her specialty is helping people with 4c hair retain length She would do a phenomenal style on you!

Sirène Noire: Joy-el, you would also look stunning in passion twists. I hope you do a video about that

dina McIntosh: Your hair is so beautiful and strong! I do worry about the build-up from using Shine and Jam, tho. How easy is it to wash out? I've looked at the ingredients and they're not, exactly, healthy. Have you tried flaxseed gel with honey and jojoba oil (diy)

Lakiea Bradley: Joy-el?.....your hair has grown out so beautifully, it looks thick and healthy.

MissKimmyJ97: Use a lot of jam and a dab of oil with some spray to wet it…. Spritz or hairspray after the braids are done and let them stay in for a full day

Marie Jane: your hair is growing so pretty ❤❤

Andrea Morina: Your hair still look great nice and thick and your hair look better and better each time you do a new video it’s growing and healthy it is fabulous big hair that a good thing!…I am going to try shine and jam! Thanks

Angelica McKnight: Love it. But may be like you said use a oil like grape seed and then use gel to help keep your braid out? I been lazy as of late and just used oil after wash and the shine gel for my hair to keep my curls. That worked for me‍

Nassa Ross: You look so beautiful Joyel & yr hair is growing so beautiful as well

SuperCrys: You and your hair are gorgeous!!

COJAMALIK: Aveda anti-humectant after kind of seals hair, to keep humidity out and prevent puffiness and more hair drying out

Elisheba Mitchell: Shine and jam is not a good holding gel. I went into the dollar store and bought LA Looks extreme sport to add to my Shea butter conditioner cream and Miel pomade to oil for shine and to keep from flaking and drying and to keep my crimps

Free: Wow your hair is gorgeous have you ever tried the Murray’s beeswax for your braid outs?

Avril McIntosh: Gorgeous!

F Benja: Joy el. Have you tried twisting your hair while it is still wet? I reall think doing that then letting dry will make uiur twist out last longer.. you can blow dry or sit under a dryer after twisting since your hair is so thick.

GodBless: Try the doux mousse def. Works good.

Vashti Royal: Crowned and adorned with Natural unique Locks

Sable 711: Did your TRESemmé heat protectant have silicone in it? Perhaps the jail was too wet in your hair was partially reverting.

Tessa G: Thank you Joy-el!

Rachelle Holmes: You have gorgeous thick hair ❤❤❤❤

Trish Se: How often do you do wash day? Do you think every week is to soon?

Cehanna Rockwell: I love it as well, but I got the purple Shine & Jam. Eco styler gel does nothing for me.

What's She Cooking up Now!: You should have done it wet with the shining jam

NewJackSwing Juicy Swing: Dang dis Black Princess might be top 5 finest woman ive seen no cap

Lenae Dyse: Why don't you try the jam without blow drying your hair. So, wash, deep condition, add leave-in, put the jam on, braid and leave braids in for a few days. By the way, do you wash your hair every week or every other week?
