Ballerina Bun Tutorial on Naturally Curly Hair

Protective styles are the way to go during cold months, and a hair bun style is a great option. Why? Well, for starters it helps to retain moisture. It also protects the ends of the hair from damage. The best part is that you can achieve a bun style in 5-10 minutes.

Make sure hair is fully detangled.

I usually braid my daughter’s hair the night before to prevent knots and stretch the hair out a bit. Once I’m ready to start the bun, I add some detangling spray and gently comb through the hair with a wide tooth comb from end to root.

Make a ponytail. Feel free to use a soft brush to smooth out the roots. I personally like using a rat-tail comb, but use whatever works best for you.

The Secret to Making the Perfect Bun Style

If you want the perfect bun, use a bun maker. I love it because it takes the hassle out of spending time trying to get the perfect donut shape.

This reminds me of back home in Jamaica. Bun hairstyles are very popular, and some schools preferred girls to wear the updo or some other similar style. You can even make your own bun shape using a sock, but the problem with that is dry zaps the moisture from the hair.

Pull the ponytail through the bun maker

Separate hair in two parts carefully covering the donut shape

Add a hair tie or elastic to secure in place

Separate the remaining hair in two sections and then braid each section

Take each braid and wrap it around the bun, and make sure you tuck the ends underneath

Finally, secure with bobby pins and add your favorite hair accessory.

This is for my baby: hey guys if you're looking for a simple protective style option, a bun is a great way to go. Why well, for starters, it helps to retain moisture. It also protects the ends from damage, and the best part is that you can do this hairstyle in like five to ten minutes. Hey a quick and easy hairstyle, especially on school mornings, is a win in my book. Alright, so let's get started, make sure hair is fully detangled. Now I braided her hair the night before just to prevent knots so that once I'm ready to start the bun, as you can see, I added some detangling spray and gently comb through the hair. First, with a wide toothed comb from ends to the root and as you can see, I'm following up with a rat tail comb. Now it's important to comb the hair from the ends to the root, just to make sure it's fully detangle, because you want to prevent any kind of breakage from happening. Sometimes, if you do it the opposite way, it kind of like rips through the hair - and you don't want that. Alright, next we're making a ponytail and feel free to use a soft brush, in our case, we're just using a rat tail comb just to smooth out those roots and, as I always say, whatever works for you go with it. Some people like using a brush. I like using a fine toothed comb now the secret to achieving the perfect bun is a bun maker. Now I just want to say this. Video is not is not being sponsored. I just like the bun maker because it takes the hassle out of wasting time trying to perfect this doughnut shape using freehand. I mean I've tried it, it's just a pain, it can be done, but it's just a pain and back in Jamaica buns are so popular. Sometimes, like I remember, some schools actually required girls to wear a bun or some kind of or up do you can actually make your own using a sock. I know some girls used to use a sock, but the only problem with that is that it would actually strip the hair and suck out all the moisture. Because you know a lot of socks are made from cotton and cotton actually absorbs moisture. So if you're gon na make your own just use some kind of satin fabrics stuff, it and you'll be fine or just get a bun maker. If you are gon na get a bun maker just make sure you get something, that's close to the actual hair color. Just to make sure that you're not seeing any differences in color once you put that bun in place. So we pull the ponytail through the bun maker and now we're separating the hair into two parts carefully covering the bun maker and if, for any reason, you kind of see a little bit exposed because it's the same color as a hair. It'S not so jarring to the eye. So that's why we try to get the similar color now we're just gon na smooth it out with our rat tail comb or a brush. If you have and then once we have it in position, you can use a hair tie to secure it in place, I'm actually using a elastic one of those really small elastic bands and I'm actually using two of them and once you have it in place. Just separate the remaining leftover hair into two sections and we're gon na just take each side and braid it. You can also twist it if you want, or if we just want to just kind of wrap the hair around you can do so. I just like to braid the hair, because, especially during cold months, it's a great way to retain moisture. So I know that when we take our hair down, it's not like dry. Also, at this point, I like to spray a little bit of water and then seal in that moisture with just a little tiny drop of coconut oil or you can use argan oil. Yes, like not only is a style great for attaining moisture. It'S also the kind of style that you can basically wear for any occasion now my daughter likes to wear buns to school. Sometimes she always wears funds at dance class, but you can also do a cute little bun kind of updo for a wedding, any kind of special occasion. So you can actually dress it up or dress it down and you can feel free to twist or braid. Whatever makes you happy, you can actually switch it around a little bit and just add whatever you feel to kind of make it your own. Now, once we have each side braided the way we want we're gon na wrap it around the bun and we're gon na secure it in place, and then you add a cute little accessory and you're good to go.
