Hello, everyone and welcome to my channel for today's video i'm going to be talking about how i got my curls back. So basically, i'm just going to be sharing with you guys, some of the steps and some of the things that i did whenever i decided to be, you know, to become natural. My hair was really really really really really really heat damaged to the point where it was just straight. It was not getting curly, it was smelling, really really really bad. I would shampoo it and it would still smell like burnt and like flat iron. It was just really really bad and that's when i decided like hey it's time for me to do something about this, so i started doing a few things that i will be sharing with you guys today to kind of transition, my hair, or to get my hair Um to be healthy again, of course, once your hair is heat damaged, you can't really get your hair back that the heat damage here, you cannot make it healthy. You'Re, just gon na have to start cutting it all little by little and that's what i did. I didn't do a big chop, but i'm gon na be sharing with you guys, some of the things that i did to make my hair look um decent until you know until it actually looked curly and healthy. You know i totally grew out some of the things that i stopped doing, of course was flat ironing my hair, i used to flat iron, my hair literally every single day every single week. My hair was straight so this was really hard for me, but i had to do it. That'S the first thing that i stopped doing. Of course, my hair was so damaged that it wouldn't even curl, like my from the roots to my ants, it was just heat damaged. You guys, it literally just started as a break my journey, because my hair, i would wash it like. I would shampoo my hair and it would smell like burnt, and it was just like a nasty smell, so i decided to give myself like a week break of flat ironing and that week turned into a month and then two months until the point where i was Like hey, i want my hair to be curly again and this meant no heat whatsoever. Like i wasn't blow drying my hair, i wasn't curling it with a heat curler i was. I was putting no heat to my hair because i figured my hair is burnt because i was applying too much heat, and so i just decided to no heat at all whatsoever and long story short. Basically, the reason why my hair got really really damaged. I'M gon na say this really fast is, i was on cosmetology school and they gave me a flat iron that would get really really really really really hot and i would put it the highest heat that i could, because it allowed me to flat iron. My hair fast, so i would do that with no heat protecting. So i literally burned my hair because i didn't use the heat protectant and i was putting it into the highest heat because i wanted to be really straight because i thought it was cute. That'S how i burned my hair long story short, then. Another thing that i stopped doing is using a towel to dry my hair. Ever since i started being curly hair girl, i started using a cotton t-shirt like a regular t-shirt um to dry my hair. I know you can buy a microfiber towel that it will be as gentle to your hair and it works for curly hair. It is amazing, but i feel, like my t-shirt, works. It'S been working really great for me using a towel to dry. Your hair is really going to dry your hair out, so a towel absorbs water fast and also absorbs your natural oils from your hairs. You want to make sure that you, you you keep in your natural oils and your hair, because it's going to make your hair moisturized and not so dry, so the towel is going to strip your hair off all of that, and that is why it's not good To use a towel to dry your hair, i also started using a silk pillowcase to sleep. This is around the time that i was everything was new to me. Everything curly hair was new to me, so i didn't know about a bonnet, so i just started using a silk pillow case to sleep. Instead of the bonnet. Now i used to buy a bonnet which either or works great you could do either or a silk pillow helps your hair from breakage and drying it out, because you know a regular pillow case can also dry out your hair. Oh, it's also good for your skin. So that is another plus for silk pillow, so that is something that i started using as well. Whenever i decided to become natural now um, like i mentioned in the beginning of the video, i didn't do a big chop, so my hair, since, like i mentioned my hair, was burnt from the top from the from the root to the ends. There was no way that my hair was gon na look decent at all. So in order for me to wait until like i was able to cut my hair little by little what i was doing so i could look a little decent was. I would braid my hair every night i would wash my hair and when it was wet i would braid it and i didn't do i used to not do a dodge braid, because i wanted my hair to at least look wavy. So what i did i used to part my hair, like in four sections, and i used to braid my hair out so whenever in the morning my hair would dry and i would take the braids out, my hair would look wavy. So that's what i was doing to look a little decent. I also used to wear my hair in a bun a lot and i actually did a video of the bun that i used to wear it's a really old video. I still have it up, so i'm going to link it around here, so you guys, if you guys, want to check it out um, but i used to wear my hair in a bun a lot you know like if i didn't want to braid it because braiding, My hair used to take some time as well, and sometimes i used to do it most of the time i used to do it at night. So when i would wake up in the morning my hair was dry and i could you know, take the braids out, but sometimes i was just tired, so i would just wear my hair in a bun. So that's two of the things that i used to do to my hair, so it could look decent until i was able to cut it little by little. When i did my first haircut, i think if i'm not mistaken, when i first went to go, get get my hair cut. My hair was basically almost like this length a little longer and just straight and everything was damaged, um, but the minute that i saw that my hair started getting a little wavy or looking okay like around here, i decided okay, it's time for me to go cut. You know cut some of this hair off, so i went on my friend's house because she was a cosmetologist. She is a cosmetologist and she cut my hair straight. I didn't i didn't want any layers or anything like that. I didn't do a big chop like i said, but i did cut my hair like up to here. I will be putting a picture of my first haircut. I was pregnant at the time, so please don't judge my face. I was really swollen. That was my first pregnancy. Okay at that time, that was my first haircut and i was happy about the process how my hair was looking. I thought my hair was looking really nice and curly, so i was, i was wearing my hair down around this time. Something else i started to do was researching products that work for curly hair. So, basically, that's when i started using the shade moisture products, because that was actually the first brand that i have heard of around that time and i also started doing these treatments on my hair a lot. I was doing it maybe two times a week. One time a week, but i was not skipping my deep treatments at all. I started using a wide tooth comb to detangle my hair and um. I would do it in the shower, because your hair is the most gentle when your hair is wet, so i didn't flat iron, my hair, for whenever i decided that i wanted to you know, get my curls back. I didn't flat iron, my hair for the first three years. You guys it's been that long, that i actually been a natural girl that natural girl, a curly hair girl. That is just amazes me. How, whenever i first started, i didn't think i was going to last, because my hair looks so bad and i kept trying. I kept finding myself back for flat from front for a little from flat ironing my hair, because my hair looks so bad that i was just so tempted to just forget about it, i'm going to flat iron it. So it's around! It'S been about five years that i became curly girl and within those five years i have flat ironed my hair twice and i don't miss the process. I used to be obsessed with flat eye in my hair and i don't miss the process at all, because with curly hair is you could do you could do a quick wash and go and your hair is looking good with planning your hair. It just takes too much of your time and i'm i just i'm not used to it anymore. So i'm glad that i made this decision and um. I hope that these little tips and little things that i share, which is not much, but it is what really helped me with the process of becoming a natural.
