Hi everyone, i'm madonna with boys and girls hairstyles. Today i have crystal with me: she is from out of town and uh. Anyway. You found me on facebook right yeah. So anyway, oh that's so nice, so she was asking for her recommendations, so she got a hold of me. So it was super fun to meet her um. She said she wanted a perm and my first reaction is: you know when i'll tell people if they have longer hair. I just don't like to do perms because i don't want to ruin their hair, so i'm not going to go on and on about that, but i said you can drop by my house. Let me see because she says i use good product on my hair. It'S so we are going to cut it in an a-line and we are going to permit reason being is she definitely does have healthy hair? If she didn't, i would not even touch it um and then, where we're taking bulk out of here, which is some of that blonde. It'S good! You know to get rid of that too um, so yeah we're gon na do a perm, it's gon na be fun. This is also you know if you're not getting a perm. This is a great haircut for curly hair if you already have natural curl. Of course i want to look down here and you can see this little hair, i'm going to need that you know to roll. So it can be curly down here, okay, so i'm not going to take much of the length this way off, so i'm just going to hold this down and the reason i'm cutting it before the perm is because um and we can trim after the perm. But i love to cut it before because we're not going to have all that length back through here that work, that's going to be in the rod, we're going to take that length off anyway because of the haircut. So i want to take it off now and not you know, waste the the rod, the hair on the rod, if that makes sense. Okay, now i'm just going to tilt her head up and then um just angle down a little bit here and then, of course, if we need to take more off um after the perm, we can, but obviously it's going to shrink right. So you have to kind of like make sure you look, because i looked at a picture that she wanted um and you kind of have to remember in your head how much the hair is going to shrink, especially if you're cutting it beforehand now say. If you wasn't taking much off of her hair, she still wanted the same exact cut. Then, of course, you could just perm it first right and then just trim it after it's also good to trim or cut especially cut before, just so you're not pulling on that hair after you have permed it. It'S best to just leave it alone. Um and we'll talk about more of that when we get to the perm part, but okay, now i'm going to take above her ear and take this over. This was another thing that i was telling crystal. I said you know what you already have some natural curl back here, so that's obviously going to help too um. I know that her hair has potential to take really well okay, so i'm coming out here, you can see where that hair falls. I'M gon na come up and i'm going to angle a little bit. Okay, then i'm going to take another section. Take off that corner she's been doing some good treatments too before but, like i said she, she did have healthy hair, which is nice. So, okay, i'm gon na hold this back. Take that corner off okay. Is it really uneven? What'S that, is it really uneven? No! No! It'S did you cut it? No, i did not know. Oh okay, okay, absolutely not you're, like no, i'm not doing that. A long time ago, that's cute, oh yes, you know what i have heard that so many times, especially like when people started. You know after coven was like oh hey. Nobody wanted to do anything yeah, then they're, like um, sorry, but i cut my bangs. It was like a running joke or, oh sorry, i cut my hair. Like i couldn't yeah, i couldn't take it anymore, no yeah! No, please don't do that ever again. Oh it's so true! Right and then your head is her hair's three times more dead yeah! Oh yeah or dried out, all the above. Oh my goodness, that's just cute just cutting it. You guys! That'S so cute, i'm excited okay, so you can see that length that i'm taking there it's gon na be nice to have off. You can see that it's already tight tighter. I guess it's not extremely tight, but for a perm because, like i said, even though she has curl it's going to shrink up even more which that's what she wants. It'S not like. She wants it extremely curly, but um definitely more in the tight to medium curl and my mom said my great-grandma also had straight half straight and pearls everything. Oh oh! So you get that from her yeah. Oh see and did her perms take well, oh see. That'S so fun, i remember cosmetology school. She would oh. I love that. Yeah see crystal used to go to hair school too. It was awesome a century ago, actually not a century ago. You'Re like wait. Is it a century or a decade? How many yeah you're, like? Okay, maybe not the century, it may feel like it. This year does yeah. That'S for sure right. I think people would agree for sure. So you guys can see i'm just taking the guideline, which is the hair that i've cut before to follow eh. That is stinking cute, just with your curl right there and the top part. So it's all really straight. It'S really hard to get the natural curl up there right see, and so i know that does not help right right. So that's! What'S going to be nice um getting this off too, when you showed me those cuts, i'm like oh perfect, those are fun short layers. Get rid of some of that heavy bulk anyway and then to be able to permit would be great, so so fun. So you guys can see, i mean some people have. You know super curly, hair everywhere. Some of us have some at the bottom like crystal and not as much at the top um. Of course, if we cut some of this length off, you know it won't be. As heavy so it won't be, you know have all that weight to hold it down plus. If we curl it, you should have a lot of bounce up here, so that would be what i want good good and easy right, very easy put some fun curl cream in there and let it dry by itself and that'd be cute. Okay, you guys i'm gon na hold this back, because i obviously want it to fall longer. Okay, okay, take those ends best sound ever those sheers are going very too okay. Take this bag. Okay, yeah cause see! That'S you can see. This chrome see how this is falling, but when all that's curled, that's gon na hold up more too, so that's so fun. Okay, now i'm going to take the top layer shorter and then i'll show you it's not like. She wants bangs, but she definitely wants some side um some hair around her face, so she can have some curls up here, but not of course, things straight across because we are doing curls. Okay, now i'm just doing a 90 degree up from the ear, probably seeing that faller hearing it feels good. Does it it? It feels healthier already good good good good. I should warn you. I had ear surgery over here, so if you're going off the ear, it might not be even oh okay just so you know what that's awesome to bring up, because it makes a difference it does. It truly does. I have to know the top part of my eyebrow, because half of my face looks like it's had a face: lift that is so crazy. So that's from your ear surgery, then okay, because they had to pull yeah, no see, i'm really glad. I bet i love that you bring stuff like that up because it's for real, like it matters it matters if plus everybody's ears, aren't like exact anyway. So it really is a good thing to check where the ears are and what's it is. So i'm glad that you said that, especially if you're going you know with shorter hair, even yeah if yeah, so that's great i've been counting down the days for this. That'S so good! I'M so glad my husband's only known for four days was it like uh you're, doing what okay well. He thinks that i have this cycle, but i always end up having it curly and then i end up cutting the perm off when it gets. You know eventually it ends up getting cut off right right and he thinks that, like i go from straight from curly to straight, that's like no. I go from perm to grow out to grow. That'S exactly what it is. Okay, so for her sides, um i'm gon na leave it you know about where it's at just take it a little bit shorter. Just because when that curls, it's obviously going to shrink. Okay, now we'll come to this side same thing: i'm just going to come on an angle, cut those a little shorter, okay, okay, a little bit here and then we'll be getting ready to perm okay. So this is the haircut and i will show you how it ended up looking um as soon as we're done with the problem so we'll see. You then, first thing that i like to do on perms is take from the ear, and i come straight over this way. Um the end wraps that i love are these perfect papers: okay, they're full papers, they're already folded, and you just take them out like that. That'S why i love them because they're all ready to go for me now when doing a perm uh, we are going to do the gray and white um. Now a section okay, you're gon na do as wide as the curler is. So you can see that's about. As wide as i'm going to do that section, okay, um, so i obviously do the little square here now, i'm not going to want to hold up or whatever i'm going to come straight out from the head. I'M going to take this end, wrap that i just pulled off and then i'm going to just set it on there and what you need to do is wet it down with the squirt bottle, and then you bring it out, and then you hold that around with The fingers down here, okay, now you roll, then you switch your thumbs. Roll switch, your thumbs, roll okay! So you're, not you know, you've probably seen and then of course i just come straight to the side. Um you've probably seen somebody roll like this and i'll show. You, okay, i'm just gon na wet this down. Okay, so you've probably seen someone. Hopefully i can do it because i'm such and habit like doing this like back and forth like switching you know what i mean, so it's kind of hard for me to do it because i'm in such the habit of like just taking it turning and then you Know just fixing my my thumbs and then turning. So let me show you that one more time, so i'm just gon na open this. Okay. So again, i'm just holding it straight out this way and i'm going to wrap it around and then i turn oh got a little bit of hair out over here, just because it's such an a line, the shorter hair was out over here. So i'm just going to hurry and do that one more time and that definitely happens and you're probably laughing if you've done a perm before, because you know exactly what i'm talking about the little hairs will fall out, but you can see how i i grabbed my Thumbs, um switch them i'll. Show you one more time um and then the other thing that i love to do is depending on what curl they're wanting um like crystals. She is going to wear it daily and she wants it easy and fun, and the curl that i seen with her is uh more of a natural curl like the people that i've seen the pictures that she showed me uh. Definitely look natural okay. So that's why? I'M going to be doing gray and white rods is because of that, because i want it to look more natural. So if you want it to even be more natural, you could do three different color of rods uh, but with the picture she showed me two would be. Is gon na be great? Okay. Now what i'm going to do - and you guys can do this - you don't want to go wider than your rod. Okay, so if you guys want to go before and then what you can do is just section that away and then you have your section this way and then you just stick these to the side and of course you can do different. You know what, whichever type of clips to get out of the way, is totally fine. Okay. So now i'm going to do a little bit bigger one, i'm going to do the white and of course i spray this down. Okay and i go to this side, do this pearl gosh! I don't know about you guys, but where we're from we are pretty chilly today, it's crazy looks so nice outside and you walk out and it's freezing like i'm a wimp. I went from nice weather to like freezing overnight okay, so when i come so you can see, i just go around this way. It'S how i finish the bottom. So after i roll this one, then i'll show you one more thing. Okay! So now my next section you can see that i'm gon na go, do the gray, okay and then i'll, do gray gray and then i'll go white white. So i'll finish this up and then i'll show you what i do next all right now, we've got that rolled. What i'm going to do is i like to come straight up. I want to do a mohawk section in her hair, so that means just straight up here and same thing from here: okay, so i'm not going to part that just because that's shorter! So i'm going to come here and i'm going to take my next section, which is going to be for a white and if you want, you can totally part this off all before you even start your perm. Some people like to do that. I like to part as i go, especially sometimes, if there's areas that you want it to look really natural, you don't need to do it in a certain part kind of like a color. You can throw color in here there. You need to throw a different perm rod in a different. You know. Sometimes it's best if it's not like totally exact, if you kind of have it off a little that helps it look natural, also, okay, so next one yeah, you can definitely see that she has um a little bit of curl in her hair, which is awesome because I'M sure a lot of you out there have the same issue, which is, oh goodness, i have curl here, but not here. So if you want to do a perm to even it out, this is a good way just so it makes it easier. Okay, i used to do the twists and that would make my hair super curly for the day. But then i read that that's damaging my natural curl pattern. Oh, and did you do it with? How did you oh, did you and then i diffused it and scrunched it and it looked pretty curly see it's. You know. That'S what's fun too is curly girled hair girls with hair with curly hair wow. I didn't need it to be that difficult to say, but it's so cool because everybody finds a different way on. You know their own curly hair to do it, and so, if you guys have any suggestions for anybody out there of what you guys do for your curls um yeah, definitely let us know it would be fun to see what everybody does. I have an amazing curl cream that i'm going to show her there's, obviously um and the curl cream just leave in or the other awesome thing is, there's a texturizing spray there's also an oil, that's extremely good for after when it dries, you can just take a Little bit of oil run it through your your hands and then just kind of comb out those curls and it's phenomenal. So, okay, you guys. So this is how i do my sites. I start up here, and this is where i tell you guys to kind of um just start placing your rods on the side. So when it falls down um i mean it's kind of this section in this section, but i don't section each little piece out. Okay, so i'm going to wet this down now. The key to this is to hold straight up. Okay, that's that's how you want to roll it. So it's rolled all the way up into here, um, if you hold it out too too far, it's going to be! It'S not going to get the curl as close to the scalp, as you would want: okay, okay, now a gray, so you can just watch and you'll see um how i place these just each different color. I just grab the next section and roll that so you can watch me finish on this side and then i'll go to the next all right. You guys uh, i'm back. I'Ve got it all i'll. Just show you this side too. Okay, now i'm gon na put the cotton around and then, of course it depends on which perm you use, but um and i'll show you which ones i love. I love quantum love love quantum. I love firm options that one's a good one, okay, and now, after that, what i'm gon na do is take. I always like to give my client a towel just in case you know it drips, and then i just fold this down a little bit just so it's a little bit thicker through here to to get any of the moisture or liquid, whatever perm that comes down. Okay, the first thing you're gon na do is the waving lotion. Okay, i just cut the top of this off. Okay, then i have them lean back a little okay. Now i'm just gon na go over the rod and then, depending on what perm you are using, which, as soon as i get this on, i will show you which perm i'm using. We are going to set a timer for 20 minutes for crystal's hair. Then i will show you: okay, make sure you get those down there and then i will show you what to do and how to check it so just make a little system of where you're at so you don't forget a rod because you definitely will see it At the end of the perm, if you missed a rod so um, this is the waving lotion. This is what's going to kind of open it up, and then we will rinse after 20 minutes, like i said after that or after the 20 minutes, i'm going to show you how to check one of them to make sure that it's ready to be rinsed and If, if they have really thick hair, you want to make sure that you get really like down inside of there just so it's saturated the whole curler, okay, all right now. What we'll do is take put this on. Are you doing? Okay, so make sure you get under all the curlers, then i just come up here and just twist this tight and always make sure their ears are out. You know, obviously so they can hear, because you know i always am talking: okay, sweet, okay! So i'm gon na set a timer for 20 minutes and then we will get back and i will show you how to um. Oh in fact, yeah i'll show you guys this in just a second um, i'm going to set the timer for 20 minutes. Okay and then we'll talk it then my timer just went off, so i wanted to show you guys really fast. This is the quantum firm options um. This is alkaline perm. This is for normal to resistant with tinted hair, because the ends are tinted. So it's really good, and i want to show you that if you need instructions, you just rip down the side right here and you can open it and it will tell you what to do so. If you're, not a stylist, and you don't know what to do. That'S a way that you can figure it out it's on the inside. So all right now we're going to come over and come over here we're going to rinse her, but i want to show you sorry one. Second, before you lay back sorry, i was going to tell you the way back, but this is the way you check a perm rod. Okay, you are going to hold both sides - okay, you're going to come up now. If you can, you guys see that bend in the hair, okay, there's a bend there, so that looks good. If it's still super straight and there's not a bend, you want to leave it now, i'm going to try one of the gray rods, the different sized rods and then okay, you can see that one's a little bit, it's not as bouncy, so i'm gon na leave It on for one more minute and then um as soon as i do, that we'll come back and rinse. We waited for a minute. Now, i'm gon na show you i'm gon na hold this up and then i'm going to come down, see how that bends. I kind of want to go up one more, but i don't want to anyway when that bends better, and you can check a couple and make sure you feel comfortable with it see that bends a lot better. Okay, i'm gon na try one on the side, see those bends. That'S when you know it's ready. Okay, so go ahead and lean back here now. What we're gon na do is rinse for three to five minutes and you're gon na rinse. Um i'll show you just one second, as soon as i get this there, we go with warm water, you don't want it hot you just want it a little warm! You can do it a little bit softer. Not, as is that okay temperature, honey, okay, you can go warmer if you need warmer. Okay, i don't have the sensitivity, okay, perfect, so you're going to want to come through the sides and rinse good there. I always hold my hand here to hold the water away. Then, of course, you're going to come down the middle and all the way to the bottom, i'm going to rinse those real good rinse, this side, real good, i'm just gon na this one had a this one come undone, so i'm just gon na do that. One up so same thing just on this side, i'm just going through each curler just making sure i get that real good okay, so we're going to rinse for three to five minutes and then i'll be right. Back we've rinsed! Now i just like to push the towel here and do it tight and then pull the head up. It'S kind of like a little massage the curlers kind of push into your head when you dry it off like this okay. So the next step, we're going to do is a little treatment and you want to go through you know and make sure that you've i mean you don't have to dry dry these curlers, obviously, but you do want to get the moisture out so go ahead and Press this as much as you need to, or you can put them under a dryer a little bit if you feel like you need to dry them, but the other little treatment that we're gon na do is you add it to each rod and then we leave It for five minutes you can come in on that, so you can see a little treatment. This comes in the perm okay. Now i'm gon na just take that top off, and i'm gon na put this on each each curler we're going to towel blot. So you don't rinse this out. Okay, you leave this on for five minutes and then you towel blot and then we put the neutralizer on, which is the the combination of which makes the curl stay. I want to say it hardens the curl, but it doesn't really harden it, but it does. You know what i mean. So if you know what i mean i mean i don't want it to sound like it sounds hard, but it it just takes. That'S how it takes okay, we're gon na, let that sit for five minutes and then we'll tow blah. Now the neutralizer is on we're going to leave it on for five minutes. Then i'm going to take the curlers out and then you rub the head for a minute and then just rinse off and we will be good so we'll see you soon um. So so we just rinsed her and i towel dried it. Now i'm taking the epic brush and i'm just lightly coming through this um. If you have a pick, you could use a pick, you don't want to brush it out super um hard. You don't want lots of pressure on this, so the epic brush is super good. All right you guys now what i want to do is put in some curl defining cream. Okay, um just rub this in my hands: i'm going to bring it up here through the curls. It smells so good. I love it! I'M michael! It does smell really good. Now this will help the curls dry into a nice curl. Now she usually defuses her hair, but first thing after a perm do not use heat. Try not to do anything like this is all i'm going to do. You can wet your hair down, don't wear a hat, don't pull it in a ponytail, don't do any of that for 48 hours um and then what we're going to have crystal do is send us a picture after a few days when she can style it and Do some fun things with it she's going to send a picture and that's the picture you're going to see so anyway.
