Curly Hair Braids - High Crown Braid Tutorial

This high crown braid tutorial in curly hair is one of my fave styles that I wear all the time. See my photo tutorial here - http://www.hairromance.com/2014/03/new...

When I first tried this style, my arms ached! But with practice, it's become a regular style for me that I wear at least once a week now.

Christina xx

Hi, I'm Christina from Harriman's comm, and this is my all-time favorite high crown braid tricky at first, but with practice you'll get it. You want to hide the start. So, behind your ear, it pick up a section and split it into three. Then it's a regular Dutch braid, which is the opposite of a French braid. So instead of crossing over you cross under cross the front side under the middle and then the back under the front and then on the next cross. Add in some hair add a large section into the front, but only a small section from the back. You want the braid to sit a couple of inches back from the front of your hairline gon na form a perfect circle around, and so you need to keep enough hair to cover the hole in the middle. So, by taking larger sections from the front and just smaller pieces right behind or underneath the braid for the back section, you'll keep it even when braiding curly hair, it's really important just to go with your curls. I do add in larger sections and try to take in whole curls. Instead of splitting them up. This means you'll have less frizz once you reach across to the other side of your forehead, start to turn the braid a little and then you'll start to add. In more sections from the back and bring the hair across, this still leaves hair hanging down, underneath that will go into the bottom sections, but means that hole between the braids will have a nice smooth cover of hair. Your arms can get tired doing this braid, so adding in large sections of hair also makes it a little bit quicker to do when your braid reaches your ear. You'Ll start to turn your hair again, so to complete the loop of the circle. This also means that little section in between the braids will almost be covered up now, so you want to make sure you've brought in the last sections across from the other side to give that a smoother look. Turning braids can seem a little bit tricky as you will need to move with the position of your hands, but keep going as long as you can and then, as you write to the other side, is when you'll switch hands. Keep the Dutch braid going crossing the sections under and adding in a head either side, and I aim to have all the hair included into the braid around about the nape of my neck. If you've still got a lot of hair out, add in larger sections to make sure that all the hair is combined into the braid before you reach the end of your neck. Hopefully, you can see through the mess of my curls, hopefully through the steps of this braid. Sorry, I couldn't get the camera angle quite right. The first time I did this braid, my arms got so tired, so be prepared. But let me tell you: after practicing a few times: it's become a regular favorite and I probably wear this at least once a week. It'S excellent for covering up messy curls on the third day and it lasts really. Well, it's also one of my favorite hairstyles. When I travel, it really stays in place now, once all of your hair is combined into the braid, bring your left hand around to the front and then keep braiding forward. You want to try and keep your braid in the direction you want to, pin it so that it sits flat at the end. Just do it finish in a regular braid all the way to the end, but then the next important step coming up is where you'll stretch out your braid. Rub the braid between your fingers and pull it the sides a little just to stretch it out and even out the size of it. Then I tuck the ends under the beginning of the braid. Using a bobby pin push the pin forward. Pin it in place. Add in a few extra pins where you think you need them and have a feel around for any air pieces that are sticking out and then I go back and continue stretching out my braid, the more you stretch, the braid to thicker. Your hair will look, you can always add in some extra pins around to hold it in place if you've got layers at the end, pull out some pieces around the front to soften and around your face and you're good to go. I hope you liked this tutorial and wear this braid as much as I do hit like if you'll enjoy the video and hit subscribe. So you don't miss my next update. You can also find me over on here. Announce calm, bye, see you next time.

Cris L: Wow! That is sooo cool! And looks awesome too. I haven’t mastered Dutch braiding yet; my niece asked me to do one and I looked it up on YouTube but after regular braiding for my whole life I kept unconsciously bring a section over instead of under & messing it up. I am inspired now to keep practicing…that is an awesome hairstyle and I can see why you rock it once a week. Thanks for sharing your “how to” for this style.
