In this video, you will learn how to weave a 5 strand Dutch braid. Managing 5 strands can be quite a challenge, but if you're into it, then this braid is for you!

This 5 strand braid is one of my favorite braids. I've had many requests for a tutorial on it - I hope this helps you learn it.

What's tricky about this style is how you manage the strings. It's best to count the pieces as you go and repeat "under and over" each time you start weaving on each side. It can be difficult the first few times, but stick with it - once you learn to master the technique, it's really worth the effort.

If it's too hard for your arms, you can also do it halfway. Then when you reach the top of the ear and do a few stitches, you leave the hair aside.

It sounds difficult, but once you get the hang of the braiding technique, it's really easy. I find it very helpful to say "under, over, under" while knitting, that way you don't mix up the strands. :)

One of our favorite styles is the 5-strand Dutch braid.

We know, we know, Dutch braids (a.k.a. "braids within braids") look pretty complicated. But it is actually the opposite of the French braid. Instead of braiding the hair from the top and middle, bring it from the bottom. I can knit five strands in less than five minutes, so this is definitely a pattern to keep in mind for those days.
