Okay, so here I'm getting my generic value products, matrix-matrix eyelid conditioning balm, but you can get it sighs peace apply and getting a lot of it. And what I'm gon na do is just smooth that, over my hair, all the way from the crown to the bottom of my hair, I'm just gon na smooth it and distribute it evenly, and I'm gon na get a little more conditioner Giovanni for this cream fortifying Sleek and shine conditioner district, exchanging around conditioners, I'm gon na get some more I'm going to put it right on the tip of my neck, because that's where I tend to get a lot of tangles and my hair tends to be very dry, so it just needs Some extra conditioner then, before you start tingle, you want to give your hair a quick rinse, not enough to wash out the conditioner, but just enough to get the hair more pliable almost and then I'm going to start using my fingers and if you have one for Your notes, you want them to be filed for this or a little snag on your hair and basically I start using my fingers at the bottom and then I worked my way up and I go from both sides. So I can get it fully tangled because if you go from just one side, you're gon na have tangles on one side still, even though you tangled one side yeah. So if ever you start tangling aside and it's just not working out just add more conditioner and rinse it off with water again and just keep adding more conditioner and water and your hair will become a lot easier to detangle. And I'm just using my fingers and a gentle tangling motion, there's no real exact art to it. Oh, if I find a tangle, I don't rip it apart. I just gently tease: it pull the two strands apart, like that I'll show you that, again later so yeah. This is basically hired tangled. It'S not super hard, but you see there's another tangle and I just pull at the two. I grab two parts of it and I just pull it apart and like if you were to just pull straight, you would rip your hair, but this way you don't rip your hair, okay, so I'm just enabling more there's another tangle. I think you can see a bit better here, what I'm doing just pulling it apart, but not ripping down with a comb or brush because that'll rip your hair and cause a lot of damage, you're just gon na sort of doing all over detangle. I don't really use it at angler most of the time, because I find that just adding more water and adding more conditioner works. Fine for me, so I think angler is sort of an extra product that you don't really need. Okay, so I'm going to add a little bit more conditioner and more water, I'm really getting the nape of my neck, really good. In the back of my head, where I get a lot of tangles seems like there are certain areas of our head from just daily use, like maybe it's from how we sleep or from our hair rubs against our clothes, but they just get more tangles. That'S a comb I got from Sally's beautify and once I'm done finger cutting my hair, I like to go over with a wide tooth comb, because I find that they're not so that your hands just can't get out yeah. This is a comb from Sally's Beauty Supply, but I don't think they sell them there anymore because, as you probably could tell my combs a little broken um, it's missing one of the times or one of the little pointy things so, but I still use it because It'S my favorite um and if you find a section, that's extra tingly when you're going back over with the comb, you might want to just stop and figure comb a little just so you don't rip the hair or break the hair, kinky tangling, curly hair. It'S doing it wet, obviously with lots of conditioner and you can't - and you just have to be really gentle. So I'm going to do. There'S my shower stuff, but just got a little more conditioner and then I'm going to braid my hair. So it stays all the way of soap and other stuff, just braid it real, quick and yeah. That'S basically it! So that's how you detangle my hair. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments. Oh, and here this is how much hair I lose so you're supposed to lose 100 hairs a day. So that's perfectly fine yeah thanks for watching bye,

MissDarcei: Your videos are super helpful! I am no longer self-conscious about my curly hair because of your videos.

passionknitgirl: This was good. I use a hot pink wide tooth comb in my shower. Love it. Some curlies seem to be able to use only their fingers to detangle, but my hair really changes the way it looks when I try that, and I always find more tangles that didn't come out.

Mary Angeline: Hey there! I love your videos! My hair is doing very well, and I do my hair business in the shower last. However, I find that the slightest disturbance makes my hair frizzy, even the braid thingy you just did, so since it's long I just let it hang down on my back. At this point, my hair still had left-over condish. Because of this, some skin issues on my back are popping up :/ any advice or similar problems, seeing as you have long hair as well?

Didleeios88: First of all, thanks for all the great videos! My question is how much conditioner do you go through a week? Is it possible to do this method without going broke?

Waterlily716: @ryanri123 @CathyRenae1 Ahhh I so agree with both of you! My mom complained about the same things until her curl pattern changed from wavy to straight in her old age. Then she was like, oh I see why you use so much conditioner, and wow! this hair is really hard to deal with. :)

silvia r: My hair had finally grown and I've embraced my curls for almost a year. No straighteners or dyes and I usually just t shirt dry and scrunch up and only use coconut oil. My hairs good to me the only thing is it falls out like crazy in the shower! Any tips?

blinkrocker2007: I just recently finished reading the CG book, and in her methods for washing she says to barely wash the conditioner out, so that's what I've been doing, which is weird because I'm used to rinsing most of it out. My question is, do you mostly rinse it all out because you have a leave-in that you use or would you do that even without a leave in? Because I currently don't use a leave in but leaving in so much conditioner (even though when its styled it doesn't feel bad) is hard to get used to :)

Got It in the BAG: Thanks for the detangling tips that helps alot. I also usually detangle in the shower with conditioner.

littletidbit30: They still sell those wide tooth combs at Sally's. I bought one for myself and my daughter there. Thanks for this video!

Waterlily716: Everyone sheds different amounts. :) Depending on how thick/long your hair is. But gentle detangling can definitely cut down hair loss due to breakage.

odedaj: Great videos ...thank you so much! So do you co wash whenever your scalp gets itchy, like two days or so?

Waterlily716: To detangle more gently, use the tips in this video. Fully saturate your hair with water and conditioner. Finger detangle large knots and get them out before you go in with a brush or comb. Gently pull the knots apart, instead of yanking them until the hair snaps. If a knot isn't budging, add more conditioner. Once your hair doesn't have anymore huge tangles, use the brush gently, starting at the bottom and then moving up. Just take your time and be patient. Hope that helps :)

Waterlily716: @ryanri123 I am actually thinking about making a video about this soon. :) I have bad dry scalp in the winter too. Make sure you aren't using any harsh shampoos, and try doing oil treatments on your scalp--have you ever tried one of those before? I would also try exfoliating once a week to get rid of build up and dry scalp. Try mixing in some brown sugar with your co-wash. hth :)

Waterlily716: @segarmini55 It sounds like your hair needs even more moisture. I recommend doing a deep treatment weekly, and using a leave in conditioner (your regular conditioner is fine) before applying your gel. hope that helps! also make sure to not comb your hair after the last rinse!

DacoRoo: thank you sooo much for making these videos. I have both editions of Curly Girl and even the dvd in the second one didn't show enough for me to really know how to wash my hair. The good thing though is that I already use the same Garnier you do, lol.

teenz2983 -: Hi Sarah! Just wondering if you rinse out your conditioner completely, or do you leave some in?

Argy Silvia: With only 2 co-wash so far my curls are awesomnly great but I lose some volume on my roots. Sarah do you think that might be my scalp adjusting to the new washing routine? How can I add some volumeon the top without losing some definition? Or isn't it possible?

lochinvar00465: I've usually been getting big hairballs (about 2" round) about every day or so. I think I will try your tricks and see what happens.

Waterlily716: @maryfaceeggo Hmmm perhaps you could try twisting it up into a bun with a clip. Would that be less of a disturbance? Or you could just rinse all the conditioner out after you are done detangling; it's good to let the conditioner sit, but not completely necessary. Hope that helps! I'm not a dermatologist, and I don't get a lot of back acne... so it's not exactly my area of expertise!

Waterlily716: I leave a smidge in, but not a ton. After my shower I apply a different leave in conditioner. It's totally up to you though-- if your leave in is your rinse out conditioner, you may want to leave most of it in.

Waterlily716: Have you tried shaking your head upside down after applying your products/coming out of your plop? You can also use clips (duckbill ones) to clip up the roots while they are drying. This will give it a boost. Also while you are scrunching excess water out of your hair (after products), scrunch right up to the roots ALOT. And you can flip upside down too.

Waterlily716: Have you tried encouraging it while styling by scrunching and finger twirling with a little extra product? This is not abnormal... most days I like one side of my hair better than the other. :)

Waterlily716: @CathyRenae1 I use a lot so I can get my scalp properly lubricated basically. That way I can massage my head and I really feel like it's sloughing off all the old dirt and dead skin. I say you need a generous amount (a palmful or more) every time.

apple Cider: do you ever break/rip hairs? even when i do what you did, and very carefully and gently detangle, hairs seem to find a way to rip....

Waterlily716: Yes, although not super often. Usually it's when I get really bad snarls... or when I'm pulling my hair tie out of my hair. Some people's hair just tangles more than others (or tighter) or maybe your hair is thinner and less resistant to breaking.

Waterlily716: @iraqi4lyf24 yes. the first one is much cheaper in price, of a thinner texture, and not as moisturizing as the second two. i showed two detangling conditioners that work well to me just for the sake of this video; i normally only use one. i could just buy one moisturizing conditioner and use that to scalp wash and detangle, but since i go through so much conditioner for scalp washing, it just makes sense to use a separate cheaper one. especially because the moisturizing kind is more expensive.

Waterlily716: Yes, it's very normal to lose a lot of hair when detangling curly hair. If you are worried about it, ask yourself if you are losing hair because of shedding or because of breakage... Shedding is a natural process; lots of hair strands fall out of the scalp everyday, so we have to remove them. Breakage occurs when you are not detangling gently enough, or with lots of damage. You are going to end up with a hair ball anytime you detangle, but you can work on being gentler.

leea marie: Finger combing! genius! Never thought of doin that I had been using a brush and it got super frizzy Imma try this!

jellyrcw12: great video, thanks for the help :)

Haley Maynard: What kind of conditioner do I need to wash my hair with?

Waterlily716: I leave my rinseout in for like 5-10 extra minutes, yeah. :) If I'm actually doing a DT I leave it in for 30+ usually.

1991Mmm: @waterlily716 hey u should try a clarifying shampoo for the itchy scalp tht will or might stop the itchy scalp tht u mentioned in part one just use it once wenever u feel like its the come clean by kinky curly It's made mostly of organic products and it does nt have sulfates in it. U could get it at Target for 12 I believe but its amazing it wnt strip ur hair and ur scalp will feel really clean and no more itch. Also coconut oil is the best thing too.

Waterlily716: @coolhiba i think you need a much thicker conditioner for detangling than either suave or alberto vo5 conditioners. i only use those for conditioner washing. both of the conditioners i use in this video--garnier fructis sleek n shine or sally's beauty supply GVP matrix conditioning balm would be good ones to try out.

Jenn Brown: Hi Sarah! My hair has gotten a lot healthier lately from conditioner washing as well as cutting out sulfates but the left side of my head doesn't curly like the left!! Help!!?!

Cheyenne Finke: have you noticed that with the tangle teezer your hair becomes more knotty over time? im trying to switch back to my wide tooth comb, but my hair just doesnt have the slip that it used to...

Waterlily716: @alexisamazing91 i have tried that (and other curling techniques). i find that the effect is more shrinkage for my hair and a remarkably similar curl pattern lol! i do love braid outs though :)

Waterlily716: @Didleeios88 i don't usually use two moisturizing conditioners per shower. since i usually wash my hair every other day, my moisturizing conditioner bottle lasts about a month or more! my cowash conditioner (which cost two bucks) lasts for about two weeks i think. it's not that expensive, don't worry :)

Waterlily716: My hairs goes through phases of being less tangly and more tangly, but I don't think it's really due to what I'm using to detangle. For more I know I get really bad knots in the back of my head, so every once in awhile I have to break out a brush of some type, even if I've been using a comb. You might try switching conditioners?

Waterlily716: @Victorian9322 Different strokes for different folks. I think finger combing is a lot slower than brushing, but you might give it another go :)

Cheyenne Finke: @waterlily716 ive been using the same conditioner even before i got the tangle teezer, but i can try switching it up. thanks(:

Waterlily716: @Vanillanowah Lol, no you only need two-- a conditioner wash and a more moisturizing one for the length. :) I would say use the moisturizing one as a leave in. The GVP is very heavy and the garnier fructis a little lighter--it depends on your hair type.

Waterlily716: @honeybearUSA that will clear up some lighter silicones and build up from chlorine and such. :) so yes, as long as you do not have build up from heavy duty silicones.

Waterlily716: Nope. The conditioner gives the hair more lubrication, so you wont break strands... as opposed to combing dry or after you've rinsed out the conditioner and get out of the shower.

Waterlily716: @cassandra1095 the first one is much cheaper in price, of a thinner texture, and not as moisturizing as the second two. i showed two detangling conditioners that work well to me just for the sake of this video; i normally only use one. i could just buy one moisturizing conditioner and use that to scalp wash and detangle, but since i go through so much conditioner for scalp washing, it just makes sense to use a separate cheaper one. especially because the moisturizing kind is more expensive.

ashmb1979: I lose a lot more hair then that and my hair is shorter than yours. I think it has to do with how I was getting the tangles out of my hair while in the shower. GOing to try this tomorrow and see if I lose less hair

The Fantastical Flipper: Would this work on like matted hair? I used a hotel shampoo and I woke up in the morning with these horrid tangles..In December and I still have them.

theAMYDIAMOND: Is this CG approved? Its the suave naturals conditioner. On the website it said something about a new formula. Water (Aqua), Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate, Ammonium Laureth Sulfate, Ammonium Chloride, Cocamide MEA, Fragrance (Parfum), PEG-5 Cocamide, Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose, Polyquaternium-10, Tetrasodium EDTA, DMDM Hydantoin, Citric Acid, Tocopheryl Acetate [Vitamin E Acetate], Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, Sorbitol, Algae Extract, Blue 1 (CI 42090), Yellow 5 (CI 19140)

Waterlily716: @haley8uXD for curly hair you need a moisturizing hair for a length. if you conditioner wash to cleanse your scalp you can use a cheap, silicone free conditioner like suave naturals or alberto vo5.

Waterlily716: @odedaj Yup :) Or I will cowash preemptively if I take a shower after only one day. My scalp doesn't do well without frequent co washes.

Victorian9322: i always use a brush in the shower. i heard a comb is better. my hair gets knotted easily so the finger method won't work for me.

MissKatAttack: So you leave the dot in your hair after you get all the tangles out right?

Mermaid Motel: Wouldn't you rip more hair out if you comb in the shower?

apple Cider: oh alright, thanks for answering by the way! makes my day :)

Rachel: hey sarah. so i took you advice and i got the garnier conditioner but i still find that my hair is still frizzy and i have fly aways in the shower! and then when i put my lax sports gell in then my hair gets even more frizzy and you cant see a curl pattern what do i do!

Shveti: a quarter size of Paul Mitchel detangler mixed in with conditioner will do the trick EVERY time :)

Waterlily716: @Vanillanowah definitely the GVP biolage one! :)

Waterlily716: @MissDarcei Aww! I'm so glad to hear that! :)

hnrenfro: i used to have the same dry scalp problem PLEASE try ABBA moisture sulfate free shampoo, its amazing and all natural but NOT the conditioner dont use the conditioner. the shampoo moisturizes my hair and scalp to health again (:

Waterlily716: @screamorange1 I got it on amazon--it's the timex brand. It stopped working though so I switched to a different one. I just checked and they don't carry that awesome color anymore. It's Timex Women's T5K3689J Marathon Analog-- maybe you can find it elsewhere.

Waterlily716: well frizz can have several possible causes. what conditioner did you use and what styling products? do you shampoo? what does your hair feel like? is it mushy, very soft, and frizzy? it could have too much moisture. is it straw like, stiff, and frizzy? it could have too much protein. finally if it's just plain frizzy but doesn't match those descriptions you may need more moisture. perhaps other parts of your routine (deep treatments/leave in conditioners) are nonexistent or not working.

Waterlily716: @ohhhshitson hey :) nope i don't. i think my hair is just too thick, because rinsing upside down just adds all the tangles back in. i can't understand how some people are able to do that lol. :)

Waterlily716: @smileformedear it's a really great, fun book to start with yes, but not necessary to start what's known as the "curly girl method." if you google that phrase you should come up with a good wikiHow page that explains everything. i also have a video on it called "how to manage curly hair - the curly girl method." that should be more than enough to get your feet wet!

Waterlily716: @EnvyTrue If your hair has been matted for a long time, I don't think detangling will help. If you just have a few tangles, it will work, yes.

SkinnyAndFun: The water! Don't waste it, pwease gorgeous! When i put my conditioner on i close the key.

Waterlily716: @coolhiba i do not think it is the conditioners that are causing this. i think it sounds like you have very brittle, damaged hair if they are literally breaking off. if so you will want to take a trip to the doctor for some medical advice. HOWEVER if your hair is falling out from the root that is fine. you are supposed to lose 100 hairs a day, and often they come out in the shower, especially if you have curly hair. hope that helps. :)

amc: okay, big question: what on earth is this curly girl book everyone is raving about? I'm new to the whole co-washing, silicone free, plopping thing, but i really want to learn how to get my best hair! is the book worth getting as a start??

B: if i use a sulfate free shampoo will that take out the bulid up?

Waterlily716: @domokonlovergirl Nooo, but since I go through cowash condtioner so fast, it's less expensive to get two actually. :)

NeeshaD22: So u just leave the second set of conditioner in all day? And on top of that add on ur hair products?

Waterlily716: @NeeshaD22 no I generally rinse out the second set of conditioner. Isn't that what I do in this video? Lol but I do use a lesser amount of a lighter conditioner under my styling products.

Waterlily716: @gianna910 OK, so I'm typically a pretty green person, but I am not going to turn the water off and freeze while I detangle my hair. Maybe in the summer, but it gets pretty cold in kentucky in the winter, and standing around naked and wet in the early morning is not very fun. (My end of the house doesn't get heated very well.)

Waterlily716: @SuperPeacelovemusic hey i got your comment in my inbox, and it's removed here, but i'm gonna answer it anyways. it's perfectly normal to lose 100 hairs a day when you detangle! you might have noticed the hair i stick on the shower wall growing throughout the video... kinda gross lol. but yeah it's perfectly normal, and if i wash my hair after two days i lose a ton! finger combing and being gentle helps reduce the amount however.

Bree Basaria: hey...I did what you said to do and I had really frizzy hair. I think that was a lot of conditioner. I'm not sure why it worked for you and not for me...help

Alexis Gall: you should do a bantu knot out!!!!!

Waterlily716: @19mterry i actually own that shampoo, but i don't remember it solving my problems. :) i will give it a go though, if i can find it.

Waterlily716: I know that I use a ton of water when I shower! There's no need to leave comments about it lol. I know.

xenebean: I like this video. it's awesome and all but i hate the fact that you left you shower on the whole time. Dude. You're wasting a ton of water. Dont get me wrong. Im not a hater. I love your videos and you're awesome. But wasting water is not cool.

Waterlily716: @PartyofCuatro4 It's garnier! I added an annotation, thanks! I always mix up my words, especially if they start with the same letter hehehe

OhSoLovely Sam: I loved ganier products before they fomulated it now i hate it it sucks its good slip but leaves it frizzy :/ what are your thoughts on garnier? Oh and I bought a comb like that at Sallys too I love it for detangling!

Waterlily716: Yup, I describe it as "seaweedy" or at least before you apply products.

Waterlily716: @asmith0794 my hair doesn't get oily really. i mainly co-wash because my scalp gets itchy.

Nayeli Arredondo: Isnt the green conditioner bottle a garnier brand one?

Milo mojo: Is that green bottled conditioner brand Giovani or Garnier. I love your bids by the way. I just noticed you always call it Giovanni but I think it is Garnier, but I could be wrong.

Victorian9322: awesome!

Waterlily716: @1mamaherrera I'm not sure what sound you are describing. I'd you hear snapping, that's breakage. I detangle every other day. If I get snarleds with the comb I take out the comb and use my hands.

Waterlily716: You probably just have normal shedding - 100 or more hairs a day. If you think it is abnormal it's best to discuss that with your doctor.

cassandra wilkinson: @waterlily716 thanks (:

Emily23316: why did you braid your hair? im so confused

Waterlily716: @Emily23316 no particular reason... just so i didn't get soap in it. :)

Waterlily716: darn! yes I still use it

Waterlily716: @gianna910 Beyond that, I think how I take showers is kind of my business. It would be one thing if you were nice about it, and said, hey have you ever thought about taking navy showers? They save water. But you were quite negative and I found your comment insulting.

cassandra wilkinson: why use so many conditioners ?? i'm confused

Waterlily716: just because someone else has different way of living her life, doesn't mean i should adopt that one. this is my channel. :) you do you boo, and i'll do me.

Waterlily716: @showstopper92297 yup. i think that's how they're usually intended to be used?

sage1238: Ummm well this is cool cuase iv never seen a video like this

Jenn Brown: Right side doesn't curl as well as my left*

Waterlily716: yup. garnier fructis sleek n shine, before they reformulated it

Nayeli Arredondo: Ok. Thanks!

Adela: who would care if ur in a bikini anyway? shameless maya did a video of her and all of her friends wasing their hair half naked. bubz filmed herself in the bathtub like 5 times. besides mainly girls watch ur channel

Waterlily716: shunn the water waster. shunnnnn herrrr ·#noshame
