Hey everyone welcome to my channel today, i'm going to be doing a blow-dry tutorial. I had a few comments on my short layered haircut tutorial saying that you guys would have liked to have seen my blow-dry that i did on it. So i thought perfect video. So, let's get to it so for today's video i'm going to be doing more of a full bouncy blowout with some slight bend throughout the end. So that way, you can see a lot of movement in those layers for the mannequin i'm going to be using moroccan oils volume mousse their styling gel, as well as olaplex 7. Throughout the ends, i don't apply a ton of gel. I don't want it to be too sticky or stiff just enough to add a little extra hold for the movement that i'm trying to create. Obviously, if your client has a lot of frizz or wave, you can go ahead and add in a smoothing lotion. On top of that, so to start off, i'm just going to show you guys how i do my sectioning for all of my blow dries. So first i'm just going to go ahead and put the products in i'm doing like i said moroccan oils, volumizing mousse, just throughout it a little bit try to spread it kind of all around and i'm gon na do the styling gel. Second again, i'm not using a ton just very little literally like two little finger drops and i'm focusing this more on the middle areas through the ends not so much at the top. Just because that's where you are going to be having that bend more so so that's the purpose of the gel and then last but not least, a couple dabs of olaplex oil, because you can never go wrong with that and then we'll get started with our sectioning. Okay, so how i like to do all of my sectioning for my blow dries is instead of how, when you're doing like your basic haircut, i will part along the ear here. So i don't like to blow dry like that, because what i feel like ends up happening sometimes is this starts drying and i feel like on certain hair types. It will create kind of a crease um. So if you have somebody with finer hair, especially around the hairline, i feel like this just kind of it doesn't lay quite right. So what i just do is kind of your standard, horseshoe parting. I believe that's what it's called so i'll. Just take my clips and go around the head and i'm not as um precise with my blow-dry sectioning, just because we've already cut and all that stuff - and i just clip like this all the way down throughout the hair. And then, if i need to make a subsection within that section, if that makes sense, when blow drying like if the section's too big for your brush i'll just re-clip it as well, nothing crazy. So there we have all of our little sections and then we'll start with this first piece. I use um qriket brushes. I use them in salon and at home for her, i'm gon na be using their 390. um. One thing that is key: when you're trying to create the bend and body you want to be able to make sure that that brush is able to wrap around the hair enough times so that way, you're getting that bend and that lift and the movement. So that is key if it's too fat of a brush you're going to have a harder time getting that bent, so we're going to go ahead and get started now that we are on to our first section. What i'm really trying to do here is really just pull the hair directly up. You want to pull as close to straight up as possible. That'S what's going to give you that lift and fullness. I also like to flip the hair in the opposite direction. To start creating movement in those ends, so you're just going to go sort of back and forth between those two while drying. Once this section is dry, i like to just roll the hair in the brush to lightly, let it cool and then i will let it fall out into place. Moving on to the next section, i will create a subsection so to speak. So take your section for your brush and then clip the rest of the hair back up, because you don't want damp hair resting on your dry section below again really work that hair up and out. You don't even have to roll the hair straight down on the brush. I like to roll it side to side as well to keep getting more bent in those ends. I like to hit the hair with the dryer on the top and bottom of the brush when it's rolled all the way around. I feel it creates just a little bit more volume and roundness to the section for that. Bounce and movement remember to flip, really well back and forth side to side and then to finish off, i again will rotate my brush on the ends for just a couple seconds and then let that hair come out. You can see how much bend is on those ends. I love it, so i'm going to continue to repeat that throughout the rest of the section. Remember again clip that hair back up that you were not blow drying so damp hair is not resting on dry hair and really remember to pull up to get that lift. Do moving on to my next section and again clipping that hair up that i'm not drawing so pulling straight up with your brush, is going to give you the absolute most amount of body when drying pulling the hair straight out is not getting that top piece of Your section enough lift, if your client is wanting to see that volume so when trying to create volume, really really pull up as much as possible once you've dried the root area. I feel like it's. Okay, if you end up pulling straight out, but at first pull up when drawing those roots remember to roll the hair in your brush before letting it out it just helps it lay so much better so to talk more on flipping the hair in different directions. I like to do it that way, because you are creating the most amount of movement and lift throughout the hair, and you are also drawing the hair from all angles if that makes sense, so it dries more evenly rather than just drawing on the top and bottom. I suppose you could just keep blowing it in just one direction, but i don't feel that it gives as much life to the hair. So that's why i really like to flip it around as much as possible. If you get to a section, that's a little too thick, i will just split the section in half, because drawing too big of a section you will not get as much lift or movement along my clients, hairline. I tend to mostly blow dry back away from the face. I will still flip the hair around some, but because i like the hair to lay away from the face i like to mostly blow it back. If your client likes it going towards their face. Simply just have the direction go forward rather than back and you'll just continue to go up. That section, you split remembering to pull for that volume at the root and changing directions when you're not around the hairline. So this type of blow dry is a lengthy process. I probably spend about two to three minutes. I'D say on each section: drawing you want to make sure the hair is completely dry per section if the hair is left damp, you're going to have an unhappy client and the style will not hold up. If you are a new stylist and you have a hard time resting the hair on your dryer to flip it around get a mannequin, i will link this one below to practice on at home practice on your friends and family. Your co-workers practice makes perfect and we start on mannequins and hair school, so don't hesitate to get one to help. You perfect your craft. I just want to show you guys how it looks in the back. You can see how we have the bend and movement with fullness. I'Ve got this last piece to dry and then we'll move on to the crown area. Don'T forget to switch up the direction while drying back forth side to side really work that hair. These blowouts are not meant to be easy, you're going to feel the burn, but your client and their hair will appreciate it all right. So now i'm at her top section. So what i do for the top. You can do this horseshoe parting too, depending on where your client parts your head. Hers is down the middle, but if they're a side part or just adjust it where their part is in the center of your horseshoe, so i'm gon na turn her to the side i'll just take with this top mohawk. I work my way from the back forward. Basically, so i just come right in here: let that piece out and still then clip this up out of the way for this last mohawk section here you really want to make sure you're lifting that brush and going in the opposite direction of how the hair falls. Just so you're really creating that lift and bend in the hair here, look at all that lift it really pays off. So again, you guys are just going to keep working up towards the face, and next i will show you how i drive for my face frame. Okay, so now that we're kind of to the very front front, what i like to do now is let it fall back down into that middle parting or wherever your client parts, their hair and i'll just separate it, and then i'll just go from side to side. So i'm going to clip this piece up first and then split these in half okay. So everything from this point on i'm going to be moving back away from the face and then this last piece i kind of really go back and forth with rolling it forward. Rolling it back and then kind of at a diagonal, so obviously i'll show you guys a little bit more that when i get to it. But let's just do these last two back pieces again to remind you guys these type of blowouts take some time anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour or maybe even more, depending on how long or thick your client's hair is doing. Blowouts used to be one of my favorite services and salon - i just always enjoyed doing them 14 years later. I still do, but they do definitely get exhausting. That'S for sure. Okay. So now we're moving on to her front last two pieces. So i'm going to show you guys really how i manipulate the brush really well, you want a good consistency of going forward towards the face and then also going back away from the face, while remembering to create that height here all right, so these front pieces, i Typically stand in front of my client, but to show you guys i stood behind i like to blow forward a little bit, because i feel in the front it tends to give just a touch more body. I blow it out similar to how you would blow out curtain bangs, but i typically just go forward and back a few times making sure to blow dry, both top and bottom of the brush to help dry the section evenly when i'm getting closer to wanting to. Let that section out, i will lower my brush and bring it more to a diagonal back, making sure to rotate my brush through the ends before letting it out just to give the extra bend and repeat on the other side. Okay. So now that we have our finished and final result, we've got a nice full bouncy blowout with lots of movement. You can really see all of those layers throughout the hair. You'Ve got nice bend through the ends, lots of movement, lots of shape. So the next thing i'm going to show you guys now is sometimes a client who still will want that body in fullness and bend might not want as much root. Lift, though so a lot of times, it's kind of inevitable, with the bend that you get at the ends that you just create more volume. So what i'll do is i'll go through with my flat iron, just in some big sections, nothing like too precise just to lightly smooth it out. So i'm going to show you guys how i do that i just start off suctioning, nothing super precise! When flat ironing you don't want your iron to be too hot. I feel like that flat ironing seems counterproductive, but i feel like giving all the volume and bend with your blow dry helps your blow-dry last a little bit longer for the client. If your client wants the volume toned down, just simply run the iron through it very lightly you're not trying to get it super straight, so you still want to bend your iron throughout the ends. To keep that movement right around the face. I really try to make sure i bend those pieces going back away from the face as that's how i dried them. If your client prefers it towards the face just change the direction, this part is completely optional, as not every client wants it done, but i just wanted to show you guys for those clients who, like the volume, toned down just a little bit at the end of Ironing you still get a nice look seeing that movement and texture and layers in the hair, it's just lightly less full. This is exactly what i did as far as styling. My short layered haircut tutorial. Okay, so here we have our finished. Look. We'Ve got plenty of body and movement with bend throughout those ends. Key points you want to make sure your brush is small enough to be able to wrap your clients hair around it to create that shape. I always use qriket brushes in salon and at home they're. My personal favorite, you want to blow dry that hair in different directions, up down side to side really work for that bend in movement. You can't opt to use a flat iron after the fact to maybe smooth down any areas you might feel are too full. That'S just personal preference to each client, but hopefully this video helps you guys out, leave a comment below. If you have any questions, i will link the mannequin brushes and products used in the description below to where you can purchase. Please like share and subscribe, and i will see you guys next time -

Cassie Mattson: Love it! I did this on myself and while it made my arms ache like nobody’s business! My hair looks fabulous! I really doubted the method of going in different directions-thought it would make my hair frizzy-made a phenomenal difference! Thank you so much!

Clara Berner: I grew up going with my mother to a salon where all the stylists shared your care and skill. It was always our “mommy-daughter” date. Anyone who had a free gap during her 4 hours of cut, dye, style, would cut my hair and give me a full blowout. I LOVED it (and I guess the stylist’s did too. I remember a lot of cooing. Not the type of salon that had kid cuts. Pretty sure they just made up a charge ). But my standards have forever been spoiled! I’ve never had the same hair experience since . Watching you makes me realize why. You put all the extra work into your layering and cuts that I remember watching as a kid, and none of what I’ve found at salons as an adult. I thought it must have been a childhood trumped-up memory, but watching you makes me realize not so! My search continues! ✊ But I’m so glad I’ve found your account. I can finally have names and techniques to what I’ve been looking for when I go in for hair cuts.

I'm wondering if I can last long enough to actually do this sectional blow-dry...LOL :) My hair is about 20 to 22 inches long and very thick. I'm 65 yrs. old. Probably too old for long hair...but I enjoy it. I will be worn out by the time it gets dry. Most of the time, I wear it in a bun...straight from the shower. I'm planning on cutting it my self using your tutorial...that was absolutely amazing. <3
