Hey there and welcome to this week's video it's being published on January, 2nd 2020. So let me start off by wishing you a very happy and blessed new year. Maybe you've set your intentions for this new year, maybe even created an intentions box. If you don't know what I'm talking about check out, last week's video I'll provide a link to it for setting intentions for 2020, but as promised, I wanted to start off the new year with a hair tutorial. It'S by request. Ever since I chopped off the hair, I've had a lot of you asking: how do you blow it out how to use style and to me a hair tutorial needs to be a lot more than just a blowout. It needs to be showing versatility in a look, and I've always believed that short hair is not limiting. You do have options, so my purpose in today's video is showing you 3 different ways to style short hair. Just to back you up a little bit in the shower, I shampooed with Kevin Murphy's luxury, rinse and likewell luxury wash and luxury rinse. It is. It is ultra rich shampoo for thick, coarse or curly hair. Yours truly does not have thick hair but curly hair. So this helps to tame the mane and it's a great starting point: it's a wonderful, wonderful product. Now, before styling, I am NOT going to overdo it with product when your hair is very short, if you put in too much product, it gets dirty and greasy quick and, as you know, I like to stretch my hair washings about three days. Maybe four. If I'm lucky short hair, not so much so we're gon na go very, very light on product. This is completely up to you. You don't have to use any type of a styling product, maybe a little something for heat. If you want, if you have very fine or flat hair, you may want something to give you a little bit of a lift, so what I will bring into the picture is the got to be fantastic by Schwarzkopf. This backs up all the way to the inception of my channel. In 2014, I've been using this product, it's a great mousse, great volumizer. A little goes a long way, so I don't need much because I don't have a lot of hair and I'm really gon na focus it in the crown in the root line. So that's it just a little dab'll. Do you just areas where I want just a little bit of height and any other product will happen on the back end of styling? Okay. So now that we have talked about shampoo, conditioner and styling product, I will be using my same old hair dryer. My el djem, I don't know what model it is, but all el djem and it's spelled ELC h, IM all el djem dryers are fantastic. They kick out a lot of heat and a lot of power, which is something that I personally need with curly hair. To be able to smooth it out and get it straight, I've had this baby forever. Next up are the hair brushes that I'll be using, and I have two of them: they are by term expressional. This is about an inch and a half to a two inch barrel. This one is about a one inch barrel and I use the shorter one, the smaller one for my shorter hairs in the back, and also for getting lift around the part line, the bigger one to help blow out and smooth. So the key to blowing out a short hairstyle is creating movement in the hairstyle, so you're gon na see I'm going to use my hands a lot in pushing everything forward. I start in the back I'm going to flatten and push everything forward and I'll. Take you through the process as we go so, as you can see, I don't part my hair on this side. I do at the other side, but I am starting on this side to get a little bit of volume up at the top, and I am bringing all of the hair here on the side forward, while flattening out all the hair in the back and always manipulating With my hands thing for the other side flip it bring the price down okay. So when I get about half the way dry, I still have some moisture in my hair. That'S when I start working on the front and the back and bringing in the brush. I have shown you in previous videos that I really start working on my front first. These are the most important hairs to me. These are also my most unruly, so I want to get these tame while the hair is still wet. If it dries too much and gets too much of a curl pattern in then it gets frizzy and it gets interesting bends that I don't necessarily like. So I'm going to start on the front and I'm going to work on my part line, big brush first to smooth out and I'm going backwards and pulling forward so the sides here, as you saw, I went back first and then I came straight down and it's A combination of the two and the back is where you want to start getting a little bit of a lift. So this is where you want some volume to come in right in here so you're, probably saying. Okay, when is the small hairbrush going to enter the picture? Well that I use for my part line, especially if I want volume right along the part line, so I've smoothed out the front, and now I just take the hair along. My part kick in this little brush and heat it up, that's holding it at the port line and then pulling it straight, and that gives you a nice little bounce and a pop right here. If you don't want flat hair and you do the same technique toward the back and the crown of the hair again working on a side part and then pull it through. But it's amazing what a wonderful little lifting it gives. But we're not going for a round kind of a poofy thing. We want a little bit of a lift in the crown and then pulling it straight. So that's why you're working with the heat and following the brush all the way out to the end. Instead of just heating it up around that brush and then releasing it because then you get that little poofy Bend and that's not what's in so you want smooth and straight with just a little bit of height, do one more hit in the back and then it'll Be the bigger brush for the rest now pull it out, so we're halfway done time now to finish up this side, I just can't grab the hair and pull it out to the side, always pulling the end straight, as you can see in same technique around the Side going back okay, so this is going to lead us to hairstyle number one, which is super super simple, a very soft and natural. Look! I'M going to use there's a product that I've discovered that I really love. It'S coconut and monoi deep, moisture milk souffle with sunflower and shea it's a natural product, it's by design essentials, a little dab'll. Do you! This is strictly for post blow-drying! Moisture. If you don't have that issue, then you don't need to do this, but I love the fact that it adds a lot of shine to my hair. So I mean seriously a tiny tiny amount is sufficient. I just I mean I don't even know if it's a dime sized, it's just a little little bit, but it's some like I said it's a wonderful moisturizer and I just kind of kick it on my ends gives me a bit of separation and I just start Playing with the hair and moving it forward, so I get some shine. I get some separation and at this point what I do is I tuck my left side you're right behind my ear and I push everything else forward: bring that a little bit behind the ear to pop up a bit of volume and it's a very casual loose And messy type of a pixie Bob, if you get it where you like it, just hit it with a tiny, tiny bit of hairspray. You really don't need much. You will see that the mousse in the back really gave me some lift in this area. Where I wanted lift helped to push everything to the side and forward, so you get a lot of separation. You can do a little bit forward here if you want tuck the rest back behind and there you go. That'S look number one very, very easy to do. Like I said, it's just right after the blow dry, just a little bit of separation with some product and a little bit of hairspray and out the door, you go okay, so the next look that we're going for is a little bit more work chic. So I decided to pop on a turtleneck. I really like this look with a high neck and it's a very, very simple transition, so you would do your blowout, just as I showed you. The only difference is. Is that we're gon na get just a little bit more height right here in the root area at the front, especially around the part line? So I'm going to take my little brush and I'm just going to focus on warming up that area for some lift and same on the part. So it's the front and the part and now to create this. Look, I'm going to use a little bit more of a wax type product, so the one that I am choosing is by Brazilian Blowout. It'S a Sai, restorative sculpt and define potion a little goes a long way with this. So how to transition from the more casual look to the more work look? Is you take a very small amount of this pomade again, no, no larger than a dime and we're going to concentrate on the front section to get some lift right here and to tuck it both sides now behind the ears super super easy to do. Just pull your back pieces forward, use whatever is left to kind of piece it out just smooth out and make sure all your hair is going in one direction. It'S an almost slicked back look, but it's still allowing for some height in the part line as Charlize Theron has been wearing her hair. This way, but she's been making it super slick to her head and it's a look that she can pull off beautifully. Not everybody feels confident with it completely flattened out. That'S why I added that little bit of a root lift to the front and the side along the part, and so you now that you've created a more masculine looking hairstyle. I personally love the contrast of popping in some really big feminine earrings, so you have this gray combo I've completely slicked back hair, and now your focal point is on your jewelry and the high neck, and I think it's just a wonderful great type of a corporate Look really dresses things up and so so easy to do and see the other side. You can go all the way back on this longer side or you can opt to take a piece down whatever you enjoy doing and, however, you like to play with it. Okay, so the last look is one that I love for the evening and we're going to start with the fresh blow dry and instead of focusing on such a deep side, part we're going to get all the hair to go back. So we take our brush and you can take your big one or your little, whichever you prefer grab the entire front section and you're going to roll that straight back and hit it with the heat. Okay, we're going to go back to the same pomade buy Brazilian Blowout, and we are at this time going to slick it all back. Instead of on the part, we're going all back again, a little dab'll do ya and just run your hands straight back, and when you get things to where you like it, you can hit it with your spray. I like this. It'S a little bit looser. It looks like the hands just went through it, it's still PC not as slick and tight on the sides using helium air spray. By the way, and once you set it forget it there's your nighttime look. So there you are, I hope, that's seeing three different looks with a short haircut, takes away the fear and stigma of oh, my gosh I'll be trapped. If I cut off all my hair, I think sometimes we talk ourselves out of trying something new because fear sets in and what, if we don't like it, what if we don't know how to do it? What if my husband doesn't like it? Well, I'm here to say: who are you living for right? You walk your walk, you do what speaks to you and I'm providing content on this platform to let you know that you have options to let you know that you can style your hair in a multitude of ways if it's really short, if it's a bob, if It'S a pixie bob if it's curly whatever it is, there are ways to work with it and I've always said. Let'S say you do something drastic and you don't like it, but what? If, in the grow-out process, you discover the perfect look for you and you never would have known, had you not gone there in the first place, so sometimes those bold leaps and those leaps of faith are what take us to that next level. A little food for thought for 2020. Let me know what it is that you would like to see from me as I start drafting ideas of what I'd like to put out for you. My content is based on your interests and your desires. Let me also state that we have such a wonderful fun community and conversation on social media. If you do not follow me on social media, yet please come and visit me on Instagram and Facebook. I am there always I post always a lot of slice-of-life a lot of what's real. I am NOT into fallacy, I'm not into pretense. If I'm sick, I post I'm sick. If I'm without makeup I post without makeup, I think it's very, very important to show that real is right. So come join me in the conversation, and I look forward to seeing you next Thursday at 1 o'clock Happy New Year.

Carol Czajkowski: This video was amazing I have had a pixie for years. Whenever I left the salon it looked great, but when I tried to do it myself it never looked as good. After watching this video with your tips and tricks I now can do it myself and look like I just walked out of the salon. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!

Lori Brown: I've been on the fence for a long while about cutting my hair short, I want to thank you for this video. I'm going to do it and you are right, I was living in fear of the "what if's" Thank you for this video... PS: You are stunning

Amanda Gaudry: Yessss! I finally let go of my fear today and cut it short. I'm glad to have a tutorial to turn to for styling

Cathy J: Love all three looks and even without your cut I can see ways to use the styling. I've worn my hair many ways but I always come back to my short hair. It's fine with a little post menopausal curl. I love the hair styling, makeup and uplifting content!

TAS: Happy New Year to you and yours! My goodness you could wear your hair any which way and you would look stunning :) Thank you for this Tutorial. Also your make up is perfect love the colours :)

Patricia Martin-Milk: Happy 2020! I loved the blonde style in 2019, it was fresh and on trend. It was a lovely look. However- this shorter darker hair allows your beautiful bone structure and features to really pop! It’s dramatic, fun, flirty- you!

Isabelle L: "Sometimes those bold leaps and those leaps of faith are what take us to that next level." LOVE IT!

Tina Keegstra: Stunning! Thanks for the lesson! It truly helps me style my hair.

Gail Harris: Can’t say enough about your tutorials... but geez so you have to look so beautiful in every hair color, in every hairstyle, every hair length.. it blows me away.! Thank you again and I’m really contemplating going short too. I love this haircut and think I might be able to pull it off ‍♀️

D Jones: Always stunning. Love the hair tips!

Julie Skelton: I loved this. My hair is almost the same length as yours. I am growing it from a short pixie cut. I always struggle with getting height in my hair without having a big bouffant! Your hair is beautiful and shiny even before putting any product. Mine never seems as sleek, I have a fluffy effect after blow drying. I'm almost 52 and have a fair amount of silver running through . The colour is beautiful too. I have naturally dark hair and always struggle to think how I could incorporate colours/highlights in such dark hair. Right I'm off to buy a bigger brush! I've also subscribed.

Martha: I just did the big chop and will try some of your styles! Just love all of them! Plus you’re gorgeous and down to earth ❤️

Bernadette Livingston: Thank you for taking the time to show in detail how to get volume and lift with short hair. Hairstylists show you so quickly without explaining. I’ve watched this particular video a couple of times and I think I’ve got it. I liked my hair so much better. My husband asked me who you were as he said she’s so confident and upbeat. I’ve watched you for a couple of years as you’re such an inspiration. Blessings to you!

J C: Gorgeous! I love how you are fearless with change. Especially love how you inspire and empower women.

MIMvlog: Happy New Year, Dominique! Your hair looks beautiful - I love every look you created in this video.Though I have long hair, I always learn something new with regard to technique for manipulating my hair as I style it. I would LOVE to see a tutorial on the eye makeup look featured here as well. It's just so stunning and your eyes really pop so beautifully. Thank you!

rjkmannusaf 01: She is the epitome of a beautiful woman inside and out. I have already learned so much from her from life changes/goals to beauty and fashion. Thank you very much Dominique for doing what you do and please keep doing it.

Janet Hart: Can I just say that you give the best hair tutorials ever! You really teach and go into detail along with actually showing the process as you go through it. I love your videos! Your cut is amazing. It helps to start with a great cut like yours because it really opens up the options with different styles. I love the shorter hair on you but you look beautiful with any length.

Trisha Rogers: Hi Dominique, Happy New Year! I do have short hair and I was able to get some good tips from this video even tho my cut is not like yours. Thanks so much. I very recently started using a dryer with the brush attached and I absolutely love it! My drying and styling time has been cut way down and I’m doing a much better job at styling. I’m super excited about it because I have Fibromyalgia and it hurts my arms to hold them up with a dryer in one hand and a brush in the other. The dryer I bought is also very light, much lighter than my regular dryer. The brand is Sutra Beauty and even tho it is only 1000 watts it does a fast dry. Dominique, I have a good laugh for you! I was watching this video while doing my morning skincare regimen on my face. I needed to pause the video to go do moisturizer and I actually explained to you that I was pausing and I’d be right back. This has to be a testament of how comfortable you make me feel watching your videos. It’s like spending time with a girlfriend

julianca Gorski: I've always been a long hair girl and due to an adventure with chemotherapy I lost my hair. You have been so helpful with solving my grow back with confidence and honestly love the short looks now, thank you again!!

Ellen Thomas: Hi Dominique, Happy New Year to you too! I’m a new follower and love your videos! So very sweet of you to share all your tips for stying etc. I’ve been tempted to get the same hair style you have and was happy to hear you talk about fears of trying a new style - I’m going to go for it. I do have a question about makeup - I’m confused; do you use liner on the bottom eye lid or not when you’re our age. I thought it was a no-no. Would love to hear back from you. Thanks again and take care.

Toot toot Imma dolphin: Oh my goodness I love this cut & color on you! And amen to a bad haircut that ended up.....4mths later, one of my fav cuts!!! Love you said that! Just love you & that you are real!!!! Real & honest is what we all need to be to ourselves

Mallory W: Love this! I'm 60 and just went short. This works perfectly for me! Thank you, Dominique! Happy New Year

Ans Hasenaar: Happy New Year Dominique. This hair color is absolutely beautiful and it suits you so very well. Also this hairstyle/cut is very beautiful.

Anna Maria Johnson: You always look absolutely stunning Dominique and I particularly love you hair this length and in these styles. Really classy! I'd love my hair to look like this but unfortunately, an auto-immune disease has turned my hair thin, fragile and frizzy. Coupled with being pre-menopausal, my hair just wouldn't hold this style. A girl can dream though. Bless you and keep smiling :)

Kim Selle: I enjoy all of Dominique’s videos! In this video, she inspired me to try a new shorter hairstyle in the new year. Yesterday I took the bold step & I’m so glad I did! Thank you for all of the helpful advice & heartfelt encouragement you share each week, Dominique! God bless you & yours in the new year, & new decade.

cakey: Great tutorial! I just got a pixie undercut after going dye free for 7 months and these are great tips. I love what you said about making the bold move in order to discover the perfect style for myself. I should be there in about 4 to 5 weeks! I'm turning 60 this year and love the idea of embracing my grey with a fun and versatile style! Thank you!

Anny G: I had to re-watch this because....you are such a great teacher....seriously! My hair seems similar to yours, including color, so when you are doing hair tutorials.....I am there❣️ I am growing out from a short haircut so that part about finding your cut through a grow out is spot on. Thank you.

Sarah Herr: Thanks for the loving kick in the pants on doing what WE want and not let other dictate how we should look! I really admire your strength and perseverance.

Jennifer Olson: I appreciate how well you have studied yourself. If find it personally inspirational and I want to do the same in my own life. That is what I most enjoy about your videos. Thank you as always!

Patricia W: Thank you so much for this video!!! I bought the moisture milk souffle from Amazon and the difference in my hair is amazing. I have been following you for awhile and love your style and lack of drama!!! Thank you so much! ❤️ you

Mollie Anderson: Thanks so much! I cut off my long, damaged hair (thank you ombre style) for the cut and color of your hair in the side swept bangs video. I am loving your beauty and fashion videos while living your faith. One challenge I have is the under clothes for a couple of beautiful Anne Taylor shirts I purchased. I hardly ever wear them because though I've tried a million things, either my bra or the camisole show way too much. I just recently saw your undergarments video and that is a start, but I still need a shirt to wear under them. Any tips?

Vivian Spanos: Beautiful Dominique !! What a ROLE MODEL you are. Thank you for giving me the courage and confidence to embrace the Fabulous 50's and to help women look stunning and energetic like you. Thanking God for your beautiful inner light that shines forth to all of us ! Happy New Year 2020 ! Vivian xxxx

BooBookitty64 Salvatore: I went from years of having long hair and then I started Donating it whenever I went in for a haircut.....best feeling ever. ....This video has been a game changer ❤ Thank you so much for sharing ❤

Esmeralda Hutchinson: You are truly an inspiration to women. You’re beautiful and natural. I’ve been following you since summer of 2018. Your tutorials are easy to follow and anyone can follow. I love your vibrant personality. No uppity pretense. Thank you and continued blessings. Happy new year.

Tracy Schnepf: Loved all 3 looks and simple to do. I am cutting my hair short because I am growing my grey out (tired of all the chemicals with hair dye) . I also love that you didn't use alot of products.

crystalheart9: Thanks so much for the tutorial, it looks beautiful.

Nathalie Landry: Happy New Year from Ottawa, Canada....Regardless if you have short hair, long hair, curly hair, blond hair, auburn hair....it always looks great! :) Looking forward to another year of fun videos

Brenda Williams: Thank you so much for the short hair tips. I tried your style ideas and I can't tell you how much better my hair looks. You are an inspiration and I appreciate the multi-talented gifts you post! All the best :D

Chris Ribeiro: Sou do Brasil , estou encantada com seus vídeos, aprendendo muito, pois cortei os cabelos a pouco. Uma pena não ter legendas em português . Obrigada por compartilhar com tanta elegância seus conhecimentos.

ROYal Smiles: Hi, Dominique! Thank you for all the tips that you are giving. I am a dentist in Manila and I love to watch your videos. They help me make myself look professional and classy! Please keep them coming! God bless you always!

ccpr15: This was great. I needed this since I’m not going to be getting a haircut until this pandemic is over...so I need to get creative with my style! Thank you!

Katerina Kalacova: You look fantastic, Dominique! Thank you for you inspiring videos! <3

Nina Couser: Just gorgeous! Great video. You put in a lot of work to demo these looks - and we love it! Thank you!

Danielle Biedenharn: Uh oh this video makes me want to cut my hair again! I've been growing it out for a few years, but I loved my short hair and I received many compliments on how I styled it, thanks to you! New year, new hair! ♥️

Mary Todarello: Thank you for all of your great videos! As a mom to three beautiful girls(and 1 great guy) it means so much to have all these tips and tricks that I just have not taken the time to learn or have not had much interest in. I love that my daughters have choices and look great in “gym mood” and “ stepping it up a bit” as well. You don’t know what you don’t know and Ive always considered myself easy going and no fuss. But, as I approach 52 years young I want to keep feeling and looking my best. This is going to take a bit more effort on my part:). Obviously you are a beautiful woman and I appreciate that you keep things real and don’t make the “average” gal feel any less than anyone one else. Beauty is such a relative term and I believe inside beauty makes all the difference as well. You seem to get that. Don’t change:). Always keep it real and keep putting out the great content! I LOVE IT!

Yolanda van Onselen: Thanks so much for this great video, I took the bold step to cut my hair the same as yours, and I am loving it!! You are such an inspiration! Thank you Dominique!!

Nena Lavonne: GORGEOUS! ♥️♥️♥️ Happy new year and new decade, Dominique! May all your dreams come true! Thank you for all you do to uplift humanity and for taking such great care of this little community right here! Sending out much love to everyone and sincere gratitude for this beautiful channel! ✨

Judy Madge: Great advice again Dominique! I had my hair cut short when I was very pregnant with my 2nd child and it was not a good look on my puffed up face! I swore I would never do that again (pregnancy AND short hair!) LOL! Had medium length hair ever since! Thanks for the great pointers at the end :)

Elyssa Berger: I just love you! I had a short cut for a while, but it was so much work for me, I think because my hair is wavy and thick. But I love watching you blow out your hair because you’re so creative and even if I do t have short hair anymore, I still get good ideas! Btw I really enjoyed seeing you on the today show last month! I forgot to mention that before lol - thanks for all the amazing videos and blessings you give us all!

sylvianblue: I just went from shoulder length to this style! I’ve swept it all back but I think I’ll try your ideas too. You are gorgeous!

LAURA BENSON: Had that haircut about a year ago and grew it out. You've reminded me why I liked that cut in these first place: It's fabulous. Now I want to cut my hair again!

Melanie Campbell: Thank you Dominique. I was so fed up with my growing lockdown short hair! You gave me hope! Bless you!

Patra K: Wow, I can’t believe you’re doing this, since cutting my hair short about a month ago I’ve been struggling to style it. I can’t get it to lift in the back, but now that you’ve taught it well I’m going to try it. I’ve been using the flat iron because I didn’t know what else to do. Thank you for the tips, and you look beautiful in all your hairstyles.

Michelle Fields: I lost my hair due to cancer. It's almost long enough for these styles. Thank you for sharing! You and your hair are beautiful. I'm so excited that I almost cried.

Nordic Walking: Love the cut and styles! And "THANK YOU" from Germany - where there are very good salons and products - but the "training" falls a bit short while at the salon. You have inspired me --- and my next appoitment is in 1 week. I was not sure how to have it cut again, but now I know. I just need to take the time to use a few simple products and practice the blow-drying process. I, too, have wavey and not straight hair and have to dye it every 4-5 weeks...thus I do not want to wash it every 2nd day. And to ALL THOSE WOMEN out there with short hair - GO GIRLS! Short is sexy and chic. P.S. Love the eye make-up and would LOVE to know how to do similar eyes (mine are olive green/brown). I will search your YouTubes and maybe I will find the right video.

Pinky T: I love your hair! I also love the idea of versatility in a hair style.

Lameese A: Thank you for this video. Went to the hair dresser, asked for a trim & ended up with a short bob that makes my facw look round! Now with your turorials I can change it up. Thank you very much for the inspiration

Sandy B: That’s how I feel about coloring my hair blonde!! I absolutely LOVE IT!!! I actually posted a picture on Facebook thank you for giving me the inspiration and courage for doing it

C J From Texas: Great cut! I have been transitioning to my natural white/gray and have an appt in four days to get a short cut. Love seeing the different ways I can style it.

Laura Smith: I absolutely LOVE how you show all the different styles. Thank you for always sharing and all the tips and tricks and hacks. Happy New Year to you and your beautiful family ❤

Kara B.: I’ve always loved this color and cut combo on you the best, stunning.

Ellen Maher: Beautiful! I did exactly what you mentioned I chopped my hair off and did not like it at first but it has grown out to about the length you have in this video and I love it. I am actually trying to go natural and not color my hair to see if I can pull it off. It is challenging but I am starting to feel bold enough to go for it and with this style I feel more empowered. Thank you for the step by step styling tips. It is so helpful. I look forward to following you in the future. You are gorgeous inside and out! Very inspiring.

I’d found that I grew very attached to my short hair just as I had my long hair before chopping it all off. I’m relearning everything about long(ish) hair! Instead of getting frustrated, I’ve embraced each growing stage. I love how you tied it all in at the end with your final comments. Women would often ask me if my husband liked my short hair or even if he “allowed” it. Lets live forever ourselves, shall we?
