$42 Vs. $120 Brush Straighteners On Curly Hair | How Much Should I Spend?

Brush straighteners are an easier, faster way than blowouts or straighteners to straighten your hair at home. We gathered three of the best brush straighteners on the market: the Glamfields Hair Straightener Brush, the Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer and Volumizer Hot Air Brush, and the Amika Polished Perfection Straightening Brush 2.0. Producer Nico Reyes tested each brush straightener, judging each on how well they straightened her very curly hair, how frizz-free they left her hair, and if they left her hair soft with little to no damage.

$42 vs. $120 Brush Straighteners On Curly Hair | How Much Should I Spend?

Oh No, Oh today, we're gon na be testing out three of the best brush straighteners for curly hair, ranging from 42 dollars to a hundred and twenty dollars. For me, a good brush straightener is one that actually straightens well without damaging my hair too much and can maneuver easily through all these curls. The first brush straightener that I'm gon na be trying out is this one from a brand called glam fields. I found this on Amazon, it's 42 dollars. The reason why I chose it was because I saw it on a list of Cosmos favorite brush straighteners. It said that it's really good for people with thick hair. It gets super hot, which i think helps when straightening hair. That'S not already straight and it has iron coated bristles, which help with frizz. That all sounds good to me to protect my hair from all of the heat damage. That'S about to happen. I'M gon na be using this igk hydrating, hair balm and they're smoothing spray with every single straightener that I try out, because these brush straighteners aren't actually meant to be used as hair brushes. I'M gon na brush out my hair one more time before we get started. I'M gon na suffocate myself in my own hair, brushing my dry hair is like the most off-putting feeling you could imagine like wet socks like it just doesn't feel right. I look like Mia before she got her makeover. Let'S just do past one see how it goes. I'M scared of all the smoke that's about to come off of this thing. Oh No! Oh it's doing it. I see it happening. It'S working! Oh my god. Look. I look like one of those mm girls. This is like the hard part I'm trying to get as close to my route as possible, but I'm scared to like burn myself. Obviously, I'm not comfortable with hot heat hair tools, so let me just try to get as close as I can. It'S working really well, but the only problem I'm having is really getting the ends as straight as they can be, because, obviously there's nothing holding the hair there. I just kind of have to leave my hair in the brush. I guess this is so cool. I feel like I'm, not loving how my ends look, but I'm having a hard time telling. If that's because I need a haircut and my ends are just not their best at the moment or if this is just harder to straighten the ends. This actually turned out a lot better than I was expecting it to. This is one of the best outcomes I've ever had with like a heat tool in terms of straightening. There are definitely some areas that still feel a little bit bumpy like they need a little bit of extra work, but for the most part, it's straight in my hair, and I think it looks pretty good. The next brush straightener that I'm gon na be trying out is this giant Norma's one from Revlon. This is the Revlon one-step, hair, dryer and volumizer. This is fifty nine dollars, but it goes on sale literally all the time. I think people are gon na be so mad at me for using this it's technically more of a hair dryer. It blows out the air instead of actually heating itself up the reason that I actually included this one in this test is because, when I was researching what brush straighteners to use in this video, this one actually popped up quite a bit. So it says to use this on damp hair, so I'm gon na wet my hair, a bit first put in my heat protectant and then we'll figure out. If this thing is actually worth the 60 bucks - oh god, okay, oh and it smells like plastic again. Okay, I'm gon na go on the highest setting. Oh my god, I get hot so fast. Mr. Noyes, I think it's happening. I feel like it's just happening a lot slower than yesterday, obviously, because my hair has to be like a little damp to use this versus yesterday, where my hair was already totally dry. It just had to be straightened out, but I think my hair feels really really soft. I think this is working out really really nicely yeah. I feel like it's even easier to do the back of my head, which is literally my worst enemy, because I can't tell what's going on back there, I'm obviously not a professional at this. I never straighten my own hair, but this makes it pretty easy for me to do everything back here and feel like something is actually straightening the hair. I look like Tracy Turnblad on this side, but someone else on this side. The one-step, hair, dryer and volumizer actually worked pretty well in the beginning. I was really really impressed. My hair does feel soft and it does feel shiny, but I don't feel it looks the best like I'm having a hard time saying it's a hundred percent straight right. Now, which isn't good also, I feel like it's more frizzy like I understand it's meant to volumize, but there's a difference between volume and frizz, and I feel, like my hair just looks. Frizzy today is my last day trying out brush straighteners and we are going to be trying. The 120 dollar Amica polished perfection straightening brush. This is version two. I think there was a version one but we're trying version two and when I was googling brush straighteners this one kept popping up all over the place. People seem to really like this one, specifically people with thicker or more curly hair. So I'm hoping fingers crossed that it only does good things for me today. I think I'm gon na stick to 410, as my temperature that seemed to work pretty well with the first straightener that I used like it works quickly. It straightens really really fast. So that seems like a safe bet for my hair type uh, it's hot already, okay, it's been like two minutes and it's really really hot. So I guess, let's just start. Oh, I did not like that. Sizzling noise at all, it is frying. My ends. I hear it going like a freaking patty on a grill that is so weird. You hear that right. I feel like nothing's happening, it's just like kind of straightening, but not even like. This doesn't look good to me, and this is what how many passes have. I just done ten at least I'll go a little slower, but then it smokes and it freaks me out - see. Oh my god. No I'm scared it's smoking so much and barely curling at all. I mean barely straightening at all, I'm frazzled. It doesn't feel good. It doesn't feel soft. This has really good reviews and a lot of people like this one. Why isn't it working? For me? This thing is like at best. Okay, so far, my hair looks not good. It is straightening to some extent, but this is like not as impressive as I thought it would be, plus it is literally cooking my hair right now, like it just smells like burnt hair and it's making me scared. I look like Ugly Betty. I look like America. Ferrera and Ugly Betty, my hair is so frizzy right now, like I can't even believe it like. This looks like I barely did anything. Meanwhile. I sat here for maybe like 40 45 minutes, just trying to get it as straight as possible. It'S just really disappointing because it's such a popular brush and everyone likes it so much. It has good reviews and it's a hundred and twenty dollars like this is bad. I don't like it. Luckily, my hair has survived this week of trying out brush straighteners the worst one. Shockingly is the most expensive one that I tried. The 120 dollar Amica brush was not good. My hair looked really frizzy and not straightened enough for me to ever recommend it to anyone. The best, though, was our cheapest option. I think the glam field's one is so good at smoothing the hair it made the hair super shiny, although there were some areas that definitely needed a bit more work, this one was definitely the best at straightening, my hair. I think that I would recommend the glam fields one to anybody with my hair type or curlier, because it really does get the job done without having to do too many passes on your hair. You

HangOut WithMe: When the cheapest option is still over your budget lol ‍♀️

goddessoffayries: Y’all, the Amika one is NOT meant for straightening. It is actually for smoothing/touching up already straight hair. It is not designed to straighten curly hair.

Sam: Ok, but why does $40 sound more expensive than $120?

Sandra Barnett: Tip. When testing heat straighteners use the back of your hair. If anything goes wrong (heaven forbid) you can hide it. Btw, you have gorgeous curly hair.

lilMissSunshine: I'm a lil sad that they made her do her whole head on the last one. We could tell from the first strip that it would be a struggle and made her uncomfortable. Hopefully her curl pattern will be okay after 3 days of straightening!

Infinite: The revlon actually works well, your hair just has to be as wet as it would be before a regular blowout. It’s a blowout brush. Also the other ones don’t give silky smooth straight hair, you’d still have to go over it with a flat iron, that’s double the heat and not worth it.

Teresa Land Hamilton: I can’t believe they made her do her entire head with that last product, we could clearly see it didn’t work ‍♀️

polowski96: I actually like the way she looked with the Revlon it looked healthy and bouncy

kool: When you like the cheapest one the best-

Daija Brown: Idk who was telling her to do her whole head with the last one, they obviously don’t care if you go bald cause that thing was literally frying her head, she did so many passes do it to at least dry up and it still barely got it straight.

lisa LX: I didn’t think the revlon should’ve been included it’s a completely different brush ! Or try with completely damp hair. It’s really meant to be used that way, it would’ve had better results.

Andrea: She looks the best with her own natural curly hair. I wish my hair is that cute

LifeBePotato: I love the Revlon hair dryer. I have straight hair but it looked like it might work best to combine the hair drier and the first straightening brush....if you aren't afraid of damage.

Tiffany Marie: I just bought the Amika right before lockdown. I super regret it, doesn’t straighten well and it cost me $160 CND.

UNIVERSAL LOVE: It really never surprises me anymore on how the most expensive product ends up being the worst, when the lowest budget of product ends up being the best. :)

Manjari Joshi: When she starts frying her hair with the third brush I literally shouted just stopppp

Enashia Robinson: I feel like she's confusing a hair dryer to a straightner. Like i have 4c hair type and I use the revlon to do my blowouts. The only thing i don't like about it is the bristles. I feel like it pulls my hair.

Pastel._.Something: The second one looks so beautiful. I always wanted wavy hair!

A V: The Revlon brush is a blow dryer. I have it and love it! Should be used on wet and and small sections. My hair comes out perfectly straight and smooth every time. I have curly hair.

Petrice Wideman: Thanks for your review! To be fair, though, the brushes you used aren’t all true “straightening brushes” and shouldn’t necessarily be compared side by side. I think you’d get better results if you do more research and make sure the machine is actually designed to do what the Google search says it does. A brush dryer really isn’t the same thing as a brush straightener when it comes to people with super curly hair textures.

Jaimie_L ✨💋: I love the revlon one!! My hair is already straight / kinda wavy. It’s good for when I want to volumize and smooth my hair.

Cassie Best Ever!: I have the 3rd brush and it's great. I love that I can set the temperature instead of choosing just high or low. I have hair similar to the host.

dreamflite7: I just love this lady. She's relatable and so down to earth.

Camila Mejia: Great video, the noise on your hair with the amika was because your hair wasn’t dry enough so the hot plates are drying/burning the water droplets ... in other words it could be burning it a bit. The smoke is fine but watch out for it. I have used regular irons for long time and have tried hair drying tools like steamers but they are not meant for wet wet hair.

Toni Moore: As someone who is also (I’ll assume mixed) my parents straightened my hair a lot of different ways until puberty when I had to do it on my own and I tried A LOT of different products and tools. I eventually just got an undercut shaving most of it off so I wouldn’t have to deal with it

Sidnee Buffington: The middle blue Revlon one (I have the same color) it's Amazing! I love it! My hair is straight trained from very wavy hair, and with this I don't even need a straightener having this, it gets soooo hot too, like as hot as a straightener, it dries and straightens all in one. It's Amazing! Totally worth the investment, that's what it is and it works great. If you do it correctly and add a frizz reducing oil BEFORE you dry and after you can achieve extremely straight results.

Margaret P: So after watching this video - I decided to order the first brush not because of the price - but I agree that sometimes expensive items do not mean better results. I don't like hair appliances that 'sizzles' when you try to straighten hair. I will definitely return for my review. My hair is thick and curly. I also purchased the heat protector and the balm. My sister is a top hair stylist and she recommends the best hydrating shampoo is Suave. No kidding. We'll see!

Mary Bruno: Thank you for taking the time to compare these products. Very much appreciated on this end!

Natasha Raisor: I use a Conair Infinity pro. It’s about $40 and it is amazing. I have thick type 4 hair. Thanks for the review.

Star Cherry: It's okay Nico! That's just the *product* burning! At least that's what my hairdresser says to me

justcogitating: Her hair is gorgeous curly. If I had curls like that, I would never straighten my hair.

Eleide Hitomi: Seus cachinhos são maravilhosos, nem precisa alisar.

Claire Fisher: Usually smoke and sizzle sounds come from a little moisture or product in your hair. If your hair is dry and without any product, it’s likely too hot, or a bad iron. Definitely don’t recommend using that one!

Karina: People don’t know what temperature to use on their hair. The highest temp. might not be good for your specific hair type. Highest heat does not always equate better results.

vibrantpixels: after buying the revlon air brush, i haven't used a traditional hair dryer and that was 3 years ago. i have since purchased 3 additional ones as gifts to all the girlfriends I've raved about it to and they have been converted. best thing since sliced bread

NO PRIVATEINFORMATIONEVER: I use a brush for everything and then touch it up lightly with an actual flat iron. A lot less damage and finishes off the ends

Sana Mustafa: i have the revlon one and i swear by it! if you have straight or wavy hair your hair has to be a little damp but when your hair is curly it has to be wet otherwise it won’t work as well.

Jemma J: these tools are great for ppl with thin and fine hair, it really gives volume while keeps hair decent looking

Sarah De Monte: Let's stop and apreciate how pretty her curly hair looks

Sarah Blancas: Can I just say, I love your natural curly hair! It is so beautiful

The enemy goes about seeking whom he may devour: I have medium-thick curly hair and I first use the revlon to blow out my hair then go in with the amika on 370-390 but no more, to polish the frizz out and it looks very voluminous and frizz free

Vladolak: The "cheapest" one seemed to do the best out of all three.

Lacey Medina: I love the revlon ! Definitely worth it! It straightens my thick ass wavey hair decently quickly!

Maria Rios: I'm never able to get my hair perfectly straight when blow drying it with a regular dryer and brush. I would only use the heated brushes to touch up after that. It would be easier than using the flat iron. But unless you have straight hair already, why use these...

Claudia Arteaga: I have the cheapest one and it works amazing on my wavy hair and after I go over some parts with a straightener it’s much quicker for me than when I just use a straightener

Kelley Rogers: I have the revlon blow dryer brush but in the actual flat brush and I live for it. Seriously, I have owned 4 because I used the heck out of them haha. I will never ever own another dryer or straightener. My husband who has seen me change my hair so many times and never notices anything anymore actually said wow, how did you get your hair so straight the first time I used it. You are right, it's always on sale too. It might not be everyone's favorite but I can't brag about it enough

Boss Queen: *I was tryna figure out how they worked and how much they were for my midlength curly hair!* Thank you!

Tasmia Hrizu: I was just looking at her face the whole time..she is really beautiful! And her makeup is so nicely done.

Aditi Gupta: The first one was literally the best

Vallari Dubey: I think 60$ . Hair looks more voluminous and shiny

Anne Marquez: The Revlon use made your hair the healthiest with bounce. The 1st one made it look straight but dry and lifeless.

Yana Bana: 1st hair brush made her hair look stiff, i love the hair dryer outcome.

Jazmine Honey Silk: Amika one had me dying inside for her idk how her curls still popping after all this

Simply A Rose: I really like this girl, she is funny and respectful when it comes to ranking these types of items.

Amber Griffin: Her hair isn’t wet in the last one. That’s how naturals’ hair looks after so much product, the heat protectant.

Commander Cullen: 6:21 It literally says right there that it's ideal for touching up pre-straightened hair, not to be used to straighten the hair itself.

B B: It might be helpful to use shampoo and conditioner to straighten hair and a heat protectant along with a straightening serum.

Neptune Valentiné: My hair is super curly and the revlon hair dryer is so bomb❣️ It’s not a straightener though so I don’t know why it’s on here. This one is definitely the best option.

Vera: A lot of the reviews on amazon say that the revelon $60 one is extremely hot and the low and high refer to the volume of air that blows out not the temperature and it almost burns your scalp because it’s so hot and leaves your hair burning hot and that was the biggest complaint

Claudia: That is torture, woman! I actually love your curly hair. After all the hair styling, i think natural hair looks the best on you. Thank you for the excellent review though!!

Simone Nep: Por acaso vi este vídeo. Estas escovas no teste, parece que a primeira foi melhor. Mas o teu cabelo é lindo! Você não precisa alisar o seu cabelo.

Manasa S Kumar: You didn’t have to do the whole head with the 3rd option when it didn’t work for a portion of the hair. It wouldn’t have made a difference. I wish they agreed to you when you asked if you had to do your whole head. I don’t know what were they thinking!

Dakota Beayrd: As I’ve learned and wish I would have known in middle school... I’m not supposed to go straight in with the iron. I’m supposed to wash use a heat protection section and blow dry then go in with the iron. The things I wish I knew

K2: Try ikonic’s straightening brush...worked well for me. And yes that smoke thingy comes while straightening if ur hair is oily or wet

Louise Formosa: I have very wavy ,frizzy hair, the best thing i find is to blow dry it lightly with a big round brush, then use l'oreal steam pod. It turns out like a salon finish.

constant reader: I have frizzy semi-curly hair when I let it air dry. I have to do some kind of styling when it's air drying, like using a round brush with a hairdryer for a blowout. Or blow it out with just a brush then use a straight iron. So if I just blow dry mY hair, it's a frizzy mess, then I'll use the amika straightening hairbrush and my hair comes out SO soft and it can be pinpoint straight. But I prefer to use the brush as a straightener until I get to the ends, then I turn it over in my ends to give it a little bit of volume. I'll also hold my hair way out as I'm guiding it through the brush for more volume. For pin-straight, I would hold the bottom of my hair extremely TAUT as I pull the brush through. Then it's super straight. One more thing (I know this is a super long comment!) I also use the Hot Tools version of the Revlon round brush, but I let my hair air dry to about 85% then I use it and use the same hand motion I would if I had a hairdryer in the other hand. It gives me a BEAUTIFUL blowout. Just like when my hairdresser does it. But the only thing- I wish it had a temp control on it bc that b*tch gets hot as h3ll when it's on high (which is how I use it) there's also only a high and low. I've actually burned my scalp with this round brush on accident bc I held it too close to my head for too long. That's how hot it gets! Low is way too low, lol. I need a medium setting! Or just a temp setting or both. I think the newer ones from Hot Tools do have a medium. (sigh ‍) But I have the gold and black one and I think it's like its first edition one. Anyways just my experiences in a way too long comment Edited for autocorrect fails ‍️

Gods messenger: The second one was the best to me I feel like if you knew how to handle the second one better then it would have been awesome cause in the end it looked so smooth and silky with a little bit a of curls it did not look frizzy I left like if you brushed with a regular brush after it wailed have been less frizzy

Brooklin Powell: Never tried a brush straightener but this made me want my CHI straightener back. It made me happy

saffron fields: Your hair! I’m drowning in envy! Those curls are epically beautiful.

lily h: i have the 120 one!! it works great btw you have to use it on really dry hair and i have wavy hair

Melissa Jane: The second brush seems to do what a hair dryer does to my hair when I use a brush while drying and I've not got curly hair x

Shy Full: I love the Revlon, it works well. You just have to practice. It took me 3x to get to salon results.

MonneBieber: Your hair was wet on the last brush, therefore the sound. Try with completely dry hair, then it may work better.

Yolinde parfitt: I love the REVLON one and how it made your hair look:)

Tania NIXzS & Mench ( 💫Share Fort ): The 60$ works and I don't think anyone realizes that a certain heat temp will damage your hair. She should of kept it at low, slow and rolling rotation to loosen curls. I have a mixture of waves, curls and a mess that takes several passes and patiences like a Saint to get it looking good.

Dizzylemon: ***Attention Curly Girls***: If you hair has Type 3 or 4 curls you should BLOW OUT your hair with a blow dryer before you use the straightening tool. You risk kinks in the straightend hair or breakage.

Christina Friscia IFBB Bikini Pro: i lalalalalove my revlon hair drying brush! granted i have pretty straight hair to begin, its just the easiest way to get a beautiful salon type blow out at home. so easy, wash my hair at night, next morning its still damp and style. the best.

Hoseoks Butt: The revlon is more so for blowout use, not so much a straightener. My sister has it, and I have curly hair and my sister used it on me for my engagement photos. It works well for a blowout result. But I liked the review lol!

Jin Pudding: Does she have her own youtube channel? Cuz I'd definitely subscribe She's so likable

duck skiies: i love how healthy her hair ❤️

Aracelis Rodriguez: Honestly and truly you're right the most expensive one turned out to be the worst I think the best one you used was the second one. Probably because it works like a hair dryer. P.s. you have lovely curls.

Augustine Jasso: I think she looked really good when she used the second product

Raquel Torres: Unbelievable how the $120 straightener sucks so much! The lowest cost was the best one for your hair. Thanks for trying before we buy ‘em!

Faeez Parkar: So this video proves that do not judge a product by it's price and assume the more costlier the product , the more effective it be !

Tilmook: I would’ve liked this video if it was tested on a variety of hair textures.

Gabriela HL: I so felt for her at the beginning of the AMIKA brush - I don't even have curly hair but I have SO much that when I get halfway on drying/straightening it, I think: "I still have to do the OTHER half?!"

Elizabeth Araujo: Sem química no cabelo é difícil obter um resultado satisfatório.

Dilnavoz Safarova: I have literally straight hair, mostly I try to make my hair curly like this girl. But she is even burning her hair for straight hair

raji fonte: I'm so happy ur channel helps us soooooo much. I'm glad it was u who tested them

Natalia Danton: Your natural hair is so beautiful! Don't try to change it

Andréa Moro: If you want good results on curly hair you're supposed to blow dry your hair (with the Revlon brush for example) BEFORE straightening it with the hair straightener. What were you expecting smh

xoxomake: I use that brush dryer with dry hair and it works well

BTSJimin FANFOREVER: Hair ends be like: we stick to your face, we are hard to straighten, we make you look stupid sometimes we dont, when you dye the end we get weird and we dont stay straight for long

Rosette Katembo: I actually didn't see this with you and I just saw it but I already have this straightener it came with two Combs one really good to detangle your hair well both of them and this other one you got to choose wood and plastic I got plastic I should have got wood it's really good for my hair

samar rabea: Ok but like are we just going to ignore the fact about how gorgeous she is and btw please dont straighten your hair it looks way better curly

Aieyan: the fact that i have a hairdryer similar to the second one she used and i just found out how to use it...

Seven: The first thing I thought when I saw this is I wanted you to try the Tymo straightening comb on Amazon. I’d really like to see you try it on your hair cause because I’m curious and I trust your videos lol. It’s the second one if you type in Tymo straightening comb on Amazon, $49.99.

maddy: I got the amika brush straightener for christmas, and I don't have curly hair, however my hair is very thick and this brush works better than any I've ever tried, I can completely straighten my chest length hair in just under 10 minutes, so for thick hair, I definitely reccomend if you can afford it!

peppa pig: Should have tried loreal steampod , it straightens hair in just one go
